What Media Bias? Part 131
October 1st, 2008 at 01:35am Mark Noonan
Nothing like having a debate moderator with no axe to grind, huh?
The moderator of Thursday’s vice-presidential debate is writing a book to come out about the time the next president takes the oath of office that aims to “shed new light” on Democratic candidate Barack Obama and other “emerging young African American politicians” who are “forging a bold new path to political power.”
Gwen Ifill of the Public Broadcasting Service program “Washington Week” is promoting “The Breakthrough,” in which she argues the “black political structure” of the civil rights movement is giving way to men and women who have benefited from the struggles over racial equality.
Ifill declined to return a WND telephone message asking for a comment about her book project and whether its success would be expected should Obama lose. But she has faced criticism previously for not treating candidates of both major parties the same.
In the end, it won’t really matter - Palin will still make mincemeat of the corrupt and incompetent Biden…but if anyone really wants to claim that the MSM isn’t biased towards Obama, then I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Um - are you kidding me Mark? Biden will destroy Palin. What convinces you that she even has a chance? The fact that she looked utterly ridiculously incompetent , completely clueless, and just down right crazy in her interview with Katie Couric . Katie Couric nailed her for christ sake…

Man, you are such a water carrier. You are not the least bit worried about Palin given her previous two interviews? I mean, c’mon! Be your own man for once.
4. Mark Noonan | October 1st, 2008 at 2:55 am
liberalD,
People were saying that about Reagan, too…your man Biden is going to be sliced and diced; and if you think that the dunce Couric got the better of her, then you’re really living in a fool’s paradise.
5. Mark Noonan | October 1st, 2008 at 2:57 am
what,
To “be your own man” would be to ignore what Obama’s spinmeisters have told you and actually look at Palin’s performance with Gibson and Couric….Gibson had to edit out his own idiocy, for crying out loud! “Rope a dope” mean anything to you?
6. Jeremiah | October 1st, 2008 at 3:03 am
I think you liberal twits throw the cart before the horse, as they say.
Since the debate hasn’t happened yet, no one has any right to judge what will happen.
I’m sure Sarah Palin will do just fine!
Now, could you just please stop the hate campaign against her. Just stop!
Sarah Palin is a nice, decent and kind woman … no one deserves to be hated that way she’s been hated by you left-wingers.
7. bongoman | October 1st, 2008 at 3:45 am
That’s rich coming from you who basically never stops railing against Obama.
I still want to know if biblical prophecies about Armageddon influence her foreign policy positions on Israel and Russia?
8. liberalD | October 1st, 2008 at 5:16 am
um Mark. Here is an exact quote from Palin during the interview:
ut can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you’ve said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?
Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.
Couric: I’m just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.
Palin: I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to you.
–
Palin could not give one specific example? Palin is pathetic..
But you do bring up a point - for very stupid people like you she may actually resonate with them. But Americans are much much smarter than you Mark - so when the dust settles and its a blow out this November remember this..
Want to put any money down on the November election?

This would be one of the most irritating reporters I have ever seen.
Any time she interviews a conservative she is like a little kid pulling all sorts of faces and disapproving looks when ever she doesn’t get the admission she thinks she is looking for.
What the F** are the McCain camp doing accepting this piece of biased Obama hack as the moderator.
The McCain camp are starting to look like whimps, they need to start kicking some ass, forget the negative biased MSM, they got it any way.
I say to McCain, Kick every ones asses, MAKE THE NEWS ( which it will ) then at least people will take note and make their judgment.
Don’t let the media set the news.
At the moment the McCain camp is gone awol….

Bongoman:
You see, this is where people like you fail miserably, Conservatives know the Liberal mindset, Liberals don’t know the Conservative mindset.
Liberals don’t understand faith, like you Liberals think that every letter of every thing that Christians read in the bible somehow affects their actions and thinking process to the point of pushing nuclear buttons.
Sorry to say, most secular liberals are pathetic,
In your shallowness, you fail to understand that Christians DON’T act on violent and doomsday passages, they leave that up to God and Jesus.
What Christians do try and act on is life principles that have nothing to do with acting out apocalyptic scenarios.
But hey, I’m sure you can find a black spot on a white garment, go ahead you people are good a that.

This has nothing to with hate Joe, but everything to do with pointing out she is not ready to lead the free world should the need arise. I believe George Will was the latest wingnut to concur with the evil liberals.
Mark, is this more conservative talking points to lower Palin’s expectations yet again? I hear she is a great debater, took on all those repugs in Alaska.
With so many repugs starting to distance themselves from her, corporate media will be gushing if she pronounces Ahmadinejad correctly.

McCain Voted For Stem Cell Research
Recent Obama ads paint John McCain as a being against stem cell research. The record shows that he favors expansion of federally funded embryonic stem cell research.

Election Riots
If Obama loses in an upset, given Al Gores shameful failure to accept defeat, the conspiracy theorists will run amok and the rioting in the inner cities will begin. What is Barack Obama, Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and others doing to prepare for this possibility? At the same time, if he wins the same regrettable preparations need to be made, as riots could still be highly possible during the celebrations in inner cities.
The Democrat machine has posited this theory of stolen elections, so they need to begin to publicly address the issue now, pleading for calm in advance of either eventuality. If they do nothing, the blood and the shame are on their hands but the chaos is in my backyard.

What is to stop Ms. Ifill from giving Biden the Questions she is going to ask ahead of time?
How do you fight this stuff?
20. neocon | October 1st, 2008 at 8:41 am
“The Breakthrough,” in which she argues the “black political structure” of the civil rights movement is giving way to men and women who have benefited from the struggles over racial equality.
This is certainly bad news for the Jackson/Sharpton industry, and their desire to keep the division and victimhood aspect of racism alive and well for financial gain.
I wonder if that is the reason we don’t see those two aggressively campaigning for Obama? It is kind of strange isn’t it?
21. Damnright | October 1st, 2008 at 8:59 am

What a bunch of dolts running this campaign!!
oh - oh !!
by Greta Van Susteren
I confirmed for us here on GretaWire: the McCain campaign did NOT know about Gwen Ifill’s book (I think I told them when I made my efforts - emails about midnight - to find out!) I am stunned….the campaign (actually both) should have been told before the campaign agreed to have her moderate. It simply is not fair - in law, this would create a mistrial.

Ask the Commission on Presidential Debates if Gwen will acknowledge her conflict of interest or better yet, step down: 202-872-1020.
And here’s the e-mail address of Janet H. Brown, Executive Director of the Debates Commission: jb@debates.org
29. David B. Schmidt | October 1st, 2008 at 9:48 am
Phnx, Thanks…I needed that.
Gov. Palin is more qualified than Sen. Obama to be POTUS so VP is fine with me.
The one thing that really scares me aside from entering the era of Carter II (as every plan of Obamas is a rehash of Carter) is sending a VP Biden on behalf of America to foreign soil to meet with real leaders.
I would have no problem with Gov Palin in that position either.
30. kimberly4victory | October 1st, 2008 at 10:32 am
There goes, damnright. He’s a liberal in Republican clothing. He’s using the Saul Alinsky formula to a “T”.
Anyway, back to the thread. Who’s to say Biden hasn’t received the debate questions in advance from Gwen “I’m so far up BO’s butt, it’s not funny” Ifill? If she doesn’t announce she wrote a pro-Obama book and a pro-Obama article in Ebony before the debates, there will be a huge backlash against her and PBS.
I’ve sent an email and have been trying to call but the phone is busy … but I’ll keep trying. This is complete bias and we should all be outraged. If the shoe were on the other foot and the moderator wrote a pro-McCain book, I would be just as pissed.
31. kimberly4victory | October 1st, 2008 at 10:45 am
Over at the campaign spot on National Review:
Keep Ifill, Despite The Glaring Conflict of Interest
It’s a little late to replace Gwen Ifill as moderator of the vice-presidential debate, and McCain partisans might prefer to have a moderator with a glaring conflict-of-interest to provide a handy objection to any question Palin deems out of bounds.
“Gwen, that sounds like the kind of question one would ask if one had a financial stake in the election of Barack Obama — like a book about him coming out early next year or something.”
But as if we needed any further evidence of a jaw-dropping double standard, we have to contemplate the sheer impossibility that someone who wrote a positive biography of McCain being chosen to moderate a debate.
UPDATE: Campaign Spot reader Bill offers a good idea:
Maybe Governor Palin could compliment Ms Ifill on her book.
Palin (to Ifill): I understand you’ve been writing a book about black political progress, including Senator Obama’s campaign. I’d just like to take a moment to congratulate you on your literary endeavor and wish you great success. Having written many speeches, political and others, I find that it’s very rewarding to translate your personal, original thoughts to text — don’t you agree, Senator Biden?

Damnright, you just don’t get it. The problem with your “reality” is that it’s a “glass-half-empty, woe-is-me” reality. I can’t imagine how much it must suck to be you.
Most of the Conservatives here hope that McCain and Palin win, but we’re not going to go jump in front of a bus if they don’t. Life will go on regardless of who wins. Anyone who lived through the Carter Administration knows that. Hell, if Obama wins, I hope he turns out to be the best President ever. My personal feeling is that he would do grave damage to the country I love if he just does the things that he’s promised to do, but if he wins, he’ll be my President and have my support until such time as he does something to harm me or my family.
40. Parker | October 1st, 2008 at 12:10 pm
The problem with your “reality” is that it’s a “glass-half-empty, woe-is-me” reality.
The problem is that what is really half empty is most of our 401k accounts.
Just look at this country just eight years ago as compared to today. If you truly believe we are better off today than now then I’m happy for you. But I believe most American would disagree. As far as doing grave danger to the country, I think we are in pretty grave danger today (I guess that qualifies as ‘woe-is-me’). People are going to look for an alternative to the status-quo as that does not seem to working out too well for most of us.
Like it or not, fairly or unfairly, most Americans will attribute the current state of our country to the current administration. And like it or not, fairly or unfairly, most Americans will associate McCain to the current administration. Regardless of how many political stunts McCain throws out there, I don’t think it will be enough to overcome the current voter sentiment. I want to vote for MCain and still might, but it just gets harder and harder. I think this election is Obama’s to lose.
Do I think Obama will be the answer to our country’s problems? I can only hope so because it sure looks as he going to have to be.
41. Retired Spook | October 1st, 2008 at 12:39 pm

Sorry, Parker, I have no empathy for anyone who didn’t see this coming at least 18 months ago. Over the course of my life I’ve made some good financial decisions and some bad ones, but this mess that we’re in might as well have been kicked off a couple years ago by a giant fireworks display. Even a blind person could have seen this coming.
Financially, I’d have to say that I AM substantially better off than I was 8 years ago, but it’s because I took an active hand in determining my financial future. I finally bailed out of equities in April, 2007, missing the July peak by less than 90 days. I only made 7% last year, but the yield this year will be close to 9%. I still track my old portfolio just for kicks. Had I stayed in the mix of funds I was in before, I’d be down over 30% from where I am.
Now, I’ve gotta tell you; if Obama is elected, and he comes after people like me to help make well those people who made bad decisions, then he’s got a rude awakening in store.
42. Parker | October 1st, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Spook,
I’m glad you are better off. Lucky for you that you were at a point in your life where you could decide to go conservative with your investments. I am actually also better off financially, even with the downturn in investments. Unfortunately that isn’t the case with most small investors who were counting on reasonable historic returns to help them retire but instead realized historic losses. Anyway, I used the 401k as a general example. I don’t feel that we as a country are better off now than we were eight years ago for various reasons and this will hurt McCain a lot more than Obama.
As far as Obama coming after people like you to help make well those people who made bad decisions, I guess that would put you against the 700B bailout plan.
43. Howard | October 1st, 2008 at 4:08 pm
OBAMA MEDIA BIAS … NOW, OBAMA DEBATE BIAS !!!
The nation already is skeptical about the fairness and objectivity of the mainstream media regarding election coverage … so, why in the world is Gwen Ifill the debate moderator, when she is writing a book about Obama … especially since her book sales would increase if Obama/Biden win? The moderator in a debate … especially one of this importance and magnitude … should be seen as completely fair, objective and above reproach. This is a terrible choice, and could easily have been remedied by choosing from hundreds of other more objective potential moderators. I can imagine the outcry if Michelle Malkin, or Ann Coulter was chosen as the moderator for the first Vice Presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. FURTHERMORE … Everyone knows that Roland Martin is in the tank for Obama … and regarding his call for Palin to either ‘put up, or shut up’ … for millions of Americans, we still feel that Obama never adequately explained why he chose to spend TWENTY YEARS, yes TWENTY YEARS, in Jeremiah Wright’s anti-American, racist, black liberation church, which gave a life time achievement award to Louis Farrakhan, and Obama only quit the church due to public outrage and personal ambition.

..respectfully, Parker, My 401k (IRA) is 145% of what it was in 2000 — and that’s with the current Dow slide factrored in.
When you consider that it weathered a potentially debilitating attack on 9/11 and a soft spot in the IT market (dot-com and Y2K downturns) where I was out of work for the better part of a year and had to draw on those funds to live, and this latest fiasco brought on by the “I love Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac crowd”, that’s pretty damned good.
