Sarah Palin Speaks for Life

October 11th, 2008 at 01:44pm Mark Noonan

Obama couldn’t even drag himself to vote to protect babies born alive after botched abortions - contrast his cynical cowardice with Sarah Palin’s bold statement for life:

In this same spirit, as defenders of the culture of life, John McCain and I believe in the goodness and potential of every innocent life. I believe the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who are least able to defend and speak for themselves. And who is more vulnerable, or more innocent, than a child?

When I learned that my son Trig would have special needs, I had to prepare my heart for the challenges to come. At first I was scared, and Todd and I had to ask for strength and understanding. But I can tell you a few things I’ve learned already.

Yes, every innocent life matters. Everyone belongs in the circle of protection. Every child has something to contribute to the world, if we give them that chance. There are the world’s standards of perfection … and then there are God’s, and these are the final measure. Every child is beautiful before God, and dear to Him for their own sake.

As for our beautiful baby boy, for Todd and me, he is only more precious because he is vulnerable. In some ways, I think we stand to learn more from him than he does from us. When we hold Trig and care for him, we don’t feel scared anymore. We feel blessed.

It’s hard to think of many issues that could possibly be more important than who is protected in law and who isn’t – who is granted life and who is denied it. So when our opponent, Senator Obama, speaks about questions of life, I listen very carefully.

I listened when he defended his unconditional support for unlimited abortions. He said that a woman shouldn’t have to be – quote – “punished with a baby.” He said that right here in Johnstown –“punished with a baby” – and it’s about time we called him on it. The more I hear from Senator Obama, the more I understand why he is so vague and evasive on the subject. Americans need to see his record for what it is. It’s not negative or mean-spirited to talk to about his record. Whatever party you belong to, there are facts you need to know.

Senator Obama has voted against bills to end partial-birth abortion. In the Illinois Senate, a bipartisan majority passed legislation against that practice. Senator Obama opposed that bill. He voted against it in committee, and voted “present” on the Senate floor. In that legislature, “present” is how you vote when you’re against something, but don’t want to be held to account.

As I’ve said before, even if we lose on November 4th, we win. We’ve got Sarah Palin and coming up fast behind her is Bobby Jindal…and, additionally, even a defeated John McCain will be in the Senate to carry on the fight for life. You people on the left don’t realize your peril or how badly you’ve screwed up…and all you ever had to do to get it right was to come to the common sense and utterly human understanding that life is good, and worthy of our best protections. But, of course, I don’t think we’re going to lose - is a coward like Obama going to defeat a hero like John McCain? Is the culture of death really going to triumph over the Culture of Life? I don’t think so; I pray for McCain, for Palin and for Life - and, indeed, I pray for Barack Obama, that he will soon see how badly wrong he’s been and how easily he can repair the damage…life trumps all, even - believe it or not - the level of taxation and whether or not Iraq was a good idea.

Life and hope will always win - even if they suffer a temporary setback.

Once again, you start out with what - if not an outright lie - is a complete distortion.

Obama couldn’t even drag himself to vote to protect babies born alive after botched abortions

This has been debunked, numerous times. By law any fetus is guaranteed a right to life when, quote, “there is… a reasonable likelihood of sustained survival of the fetus outside the womb, with or without artificial support.” The legislation that Obama refused to back would not have changed that. He refused to back it because it gave the same protection to a fetus even if doctors gave it a zero percent chance of life - to make illegal a womans right to abort it even if it wouldn’t live more than a few hours at best. There is a HUGE difference between not trying to save something that most likely can’t be saved and “protecting babies born alive after a botched abortion” - the law is that such babies, if they have a chance of making it, are already protected.

Now to the double standards. When the kerfuffle broke out about Palin’s daughters baby, the Right was quick to say that no doubt Obama would use the “special needs baby” for politicizing at every opportunity simply because Palin had a special needs child. The Right were all over how terribly wrong and bad that would be. What have we seen since, and seen here? Palin using “special needs baby” lines politicizing at every opportunity. Double standards now, just as there are double standards in Washington. No sign Palin would reform them, every sign she uses them herself.

    And then we get this:

As I’ve said before, even if we lose on November 4th, we win. We’ve got Sarah Palin and coming up fast behind her is Bobby Jindal…and, additionally, even a defeated John McCain will be in the Senate to carry on the fight for life.

Well - at least you’re getting used to the fact you’re going to lose, even if you are attempting to redefine losing as winning. McCain will most likely retire after this campaign. He will be too old in four years time to do this all again, and most likely to upset with the failure this time to even try. As for Sarah, well, I think she’s finished after losing in November too, because after all, the rabid Right need SOMEONE to blame so that the policies, such as they are, and the Reaganomics and the neoconservative BS remains blameless.

You people on the left don’t realize your peril or how badly you’ve screwed up…and all you ever had to do to get it right was to come to the common sense and utterly human understanding that life is good, and worthy of our best protections.

And back we go to the twisting and the hatred. Life is good. Life is worthy of protection. Trying to force something that’s not developed enough to survive, to live a few hours longer is not good. If anything, it’s trying to play God - not accepting that a dying or unsaveable fetus is dying or unsaveable, and punishing anyone who tries to say otherwise. The emperors new clothes. Just because someone has different political opinions doesn’t make them bad, or hateworthy, or any less human - so quit with the pseudo-caring patronizing; it’s blatantly fake.

Life and hope will always win - even if they suffer a temporary setback.

But this isn’t about life. This is about scoring political points, at the expense of whoever disagrees. YOU are causing the setbacks, but you’re right, hope WILL always win. Especially come November.

    Jack asS,

you should be ashame of writing the above crap.

If you really believe any of it maybe it’s your head up Arctic Fox’s Arse.

Healthcare is my living and I am still pro-choice.

  • 8. neocon  |  October 11th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

Pro Choice over what Now What?

    - Will you allow me the choice to send my children to the public school of my choosing?

    - Will you allow me the choice to put some of my mandatory SS contribution funds into a private account?

    - Will you allow me the choice to opt out of Obama’s UHC plan is he is elected?

    - Would you allow the parents of invalids the right to choose to sustain the life of their daughter over the wishes of the husband?

    - Would you allow public school’s the choice to inlcude creationism in their curriculum?

    - Will you allow public school assemblies the right to choose prayer before school events?

    Just how pro-choice are you?

  • 9. Nate  |  October 11th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

    - Will you allow me the choice to send my children to the public school of my choosing?

It would be nice if that could happen but it’s possible that a given school might not have enough resources to work with all the children choosing it. It would be even better to make all schools high quality so you’d not have to worry about which one for your children to attend.

    - Will you allow me the choice to put some of my mandatory SS contribution funds into a private account?

If you want to take the risk sure — think about losing 50% over the past few weeks. but it should not change the resulting benefits of those who choose to stay.

    - Will you allow me the choice to opt out of Obama’s UHC plan is he is elected?

to no health care? staying with a business plan?

    - Would you allow the parents of invalids the right to choose to sustain the life of their daughter over the wishes of the husband?

wow, still stuck on schiavo? how about requiring everyone to have a living will (upon majority age) so that such issues are clear.

    - Would you allow public school’s the choice to inlcude creationism in their curriculum?

outside of science since it’s not science. perhaps in social studies?

    - Will you allow public school assemblies the right to choose prayer before school events?

anyone can pray anytime they want. an organized prayer does not belong in public school functions. perhaps churches need to start fielding sports teams, etc. that want the supernatural almighty behind them. other such things like a theater production or concert or whatever, do group prayers happen on broadway or in the public concert hall — no — and why would a group prayer be needed — what, so that no one forgets their lines? so that the violin strings don’t break? so, like, the supernatural is what makes a string break? what is up with that? again, anyone can pray whenever they want …

Palin is finished nationally if/when McCain doesn’t win. That’s just what happens to defeated VP candidates. Quayle, Edwards, Lieberman, none of them came close to their party’s nomination.

Once you have the stink of national defeat on you, it doesn’t wash off.

  • 11. Ricorun  |  October 11th, 2008 at 6:25 pm

RB: Once you have the stink of national defeat on you, it doesn’t wash off.

Tell that to Nixon (he was VP, won the nomination for P, lost, then later won the nomination and won). Or Reagan (he ran for P and lost before he won). Or GHW Bush (he ran for P and lost before he won). Additionally Adelai Stevenson won the Democratic nomination twice (but lost both times) and Thomas Dewey won the Republican nomination twice (but lost both times).

Personally, I think Palin still has a bright future — assuming she polishes up some in the mean time. I may be premature in saying this, but I think McCain picked her too early, then mishandled her after he did (my Lord, he’s run a terrible campaign, but that’s another rant). And some have characterized her as Quayle in a skirt, or Bush in a skirt. She’s smarter than Quayle, and more well spoken than Bush. I think she’s more like Huckabee in a skirt. And I think both Huckabee and Palin have futures.

Yes, as Palin will tell you, it doesn’t really count if it brings American democracy to Iraq. Besides, Saddam was killing more Iraqi children than the U.S. has.

You need to show more support for your country’s war effort, majoriot. Where is your patriotism, anyway?

We, along with other thinking countries, said no to Iraq, as we knew it had nothing to do with 9/11. We did, however, say yes to Afghanistan where the perpetrators were actually trained and where Bin Laden resided before he moved to Pakistan.

    Got it?

  • 18. js  |  October 11th, 2008 at 8:53 pm

tell that to the half million children that saddam let die so he could garner your support…

    got it?

  • 19. neocon  |  October 11th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

    CO,

The vision was a little larger than catching Bin Laden, and taking out Saddam was crucial to that vision of bringing democracy to an oppressed ME region.

As evidenced by millions of Iraqi’s voting in three seperate elections and a current representative government of Iraq.supported by a 300,000+ ISF force, I’d say this vision is worthy of supporting.

But that would require someone like you willing to sacrifice for someone else. Sadly, I don’ think it’s in you.

  • 20. js  |  October 12th, 2008 at 4:10 am

its pretty pitiful neo…CO thinks we went to iraq becuse of 9-11…he’s a clueless canuk…he would not sacrifice anything because his value system precludes the possibility that there might be something more important than the selfish little world he surrounds himself in….

if he were any difference…he would be working to change things in canada…instead of a foreign nation that he holds no accountablity in or for…
