Bad News for the Pro-Abortion Crowd
by Leo Pusateri on November 19th, 2008 at 08:19pm
From here:
LONDON (AP) — Doctors have given a woman a new windpipe with tissue grown from her own stem cells, eliminating the need for anti-rejection drugs.
And eliminating the need to kill embryos, as well.
For years now, the pro-abortion crowd’s mantra is that we need embryonic stem cell research to cure diseases. The Democratic Party Platform, to this day, reads:
Pursue embryonic stem cell research
Pres. Bush has rejected the calls from Nancy Reagan, Christopher Reeve & Americans across the land for assistance with embryonic stem cell research. We will reverse his wrongheaded policy. Stem cell therapy offers hope to more than 100 million Americans who have serious illnesses-from Alzheimer’s to heart disease to juvenile diabetes to Parkinson’s. We will pursue this research under the strictest ethical guidelines, but we will not walk away from the chance to save lives and reduce human suffering.
Interestingly, that little tidbit is located in the part of the DNC platform that deals with abortion.
In other words, the whole embryonic stem cell debate is a move by the pro-infanticide faction of the democrat party to keep the abortionist’s foot in society’s door.
The dirty little secret, the gorilla on the dining room table of which no one dares speak, is that embryonic stem cell research has shown absolutely no promise toward curing disease, as embryonic stem cells have been proven time and time again to be unstable in nature, at times even causing cancer-like symptoms in subjects.
If the pro-baby killing crowd is to find justification for their ghoulish predelictions, they’ll have to look elsewhere. Embryonic stem cell research ain’t gonna cut it.

If there were a “pro-abortion crowd” for which this could be bad news, you might have a point here. But there isn’t, so you don’t.
November 19th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Again pure ignorance
There are currently millions of unwanted frozen embryos from fertility clinics. These would be the source not abortions.
As far as no promise …. they (scientist) have successfully treated mice for many disease with stem cells. Unfortunately the Bushbots won’t let scientist cure people.
November 19th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Yeah, this is big disappointment. Stem cell research paying off and saving someone’s life.
How could we have let something like this happen?
November 19th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
The pure ignorance on parade that I see here is more than evident in the writings of the usual suspect lefty trolls.
The stem cells that are useful are ADULT stem cells; in this case, the stem cells from the adult woman herself.
Embryonic stem cells have NOT proven useful. Quite the contrary.
The argument that embryos should be destroyed for stem cell research holds no water.
Those who treat human life so cavalierly as to transform it into a commodity will have to look elsewhere for vindication.

Leo
LOL - pure ignorance like I said
Here are a few of many studies using EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS - even included the references for you
Scientists now report that they can use mouse embryonic stem cells to make functional motor neurons. Previously paralyzed rats treated with the motor neurons were able to move their legs again.Annals of Neurology 60(1)
32–44,
Stanford University recently reported that they
could use mouse embryonic stem cells to “cure” a mouse model of
diabetes. PNAS USA 99:16105–16110
A collaborative team of Japanese and
NIH-funded scientists coaxed mouse embryonic stem cells into becoming liver-like cells. They used the new mouse liver-like cells in a bioartificial liver, an implanted device that uses liver cells to replace some liver function. Ninety percent of mice with liver failure that were implanted with the bioartificial liver survived, while mice with liver failure that did not receive the implant all died within two days.

And what if, like me, you’re pro-life and pro embryonic stem cell research?
November 20th, 2008 at 2:27 am
Rep to Lib,
I would advise, then, to look into embyronic stem cell research which will tell you that its worthless and not needed. Stem cells, great; embryonic stem cells, inhuman waste of time.

Orlando,
Anyone who refuses to ban late term abortions is pro-abortion by default. There is no one who will admit to being in favor of abortions, but there are plenty of people who de-facto favor more and more abortions.
November 20th, 2008 at 6:49 am
Stem cells show great promise. And besides, you have nothing to lose. We can get the stem cells from UNFERTILIZED EGGS! Think about it… instead of a woman having a period and the egg goto waste, it could be used to help someone.

Again the lefties here try to obscure the point, in that the creation of human life for the sole purpose of destroying that life and using it for experimentation, is what many of us find repulsive.
This is the creation of a whole new class of human being who have no rights or protections under the law. If they do not have rights under the law, as many in the pro abortion movement contend, where does this stop?
I include the pro-abortion movement because it is their argument that an embryo or a fetus is not a human being, and is just a piece of tissue. Which is also why they oppose any restrictions on partial birth abortion, because they need to be absolutists on this point, or else they lose their argument regarding this procedure.
We cannot stop private companies from embryonic stem cell research, but as the successes with adult stem cells becomes more apparent, these companies will shift to research which will enable them to reach their goals more quickly.
It is the use of taxpayer funds to assist in this dehumanization, and creation of ‘human lab rats’, is what we oppose. Creation of a class of human beings whose only purpose is to die for a university lab’s curiosity, is in essence the US government saying that only certain classes of people are worthy of protection under the Constitution.
That is not what this country and its government should stand for, and that’s what those who mock our concerns over EMBRYONIC stem cell research refuse to understand.

Anyone who refuses to ban late term abortions is pro-abortion by default.
That’s your redefinition? Really? You consider that a compelling–or even valid–argument?
And what if, like me, you’re pro-life and pro embryonic stem cell research?
You’re in the clear. Despite what people like Leo will scream at you, this isn’t about abortion. As others have pointed out (and folks like Leo and Mark Noonan pointedly ignore), these stem cells are primarily coming from unused embryos from artificial insemination/implantation clinics. Were they not used for research, they would simply be thrown away; for whatever reason, folks like Leo and Mark think attempting to do something useful with them instead of throwing them away is a horrible evil.
In fact, if I wanted to use a Mark Noonan-style formulation, I could say that anyone who refuses to let these cells that would be discarded otherwise for research is, by default, against the idea of curing diseases. But I wouldn’t want to make myself look foolish by using such a formulation.
November 20th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
LOL
Apparently Mark can’t read my post
Scientist have used Embryonic stem cells to cure disease in mice
People like him and bush won’t let scientist cure disease in humans - Pro-life???? me thinks NOT! more like Pro-Ignoramous
November 20th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
There is a difference in creating mice embyros versus creating human embryos…Unless you are a member of PETA that believes that there is no difference.
November 20th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
thousands of human embryos are getting flushed down the toilet and not a peep from all you pro-lifers until somebody suggests using them to reproduce the cures that scientists have discovered using mouse embryo stem cells.
first you claim that nothing can be done with embryonic stem cells
then you claim you are against making embryos for the purpose of destroying them
both positioins are ignorant of the real facts
and unmask your hypocrisy

‘Why aren’t we funding this?!?!?!” - Peter Griffin after being cured by stem cell research from his fast food induced stroke.
Heres a question, say scientists come up with a way to cure Parkinson’s through stem cells. Do we pull funding and tell anyone with the disease, sorry, but harvesting embryos that will be thrown out anyway will morally bankrupt our society?
A womans esphocais (sp) was just created using stem cell research. What right do you have to tell her she cannot have it if it will save her life?
You fight for the baby, but once it’s born it’s on it’s own. You fight against sex education and preach no sex before marriage. Finally you fight against stem cell research in which embryo’s can be harvested through God’s natural process he instilled on women.
Is it any wonder why you fellas lost the election?!?!?!
November 20th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
‘First you claim that nothing can be done with embryonic stem cells ‘
Nothing has been done with human embryonic stem cells to cure anything. You keep referring to all the wonderful cures that have come from mice embryos, but have failed to name one ‘cure’ that resulted from human embryonic stem cells.
‘Then you claim you are against making embryos for the purpose of destroying them’
Then what would be the purpose of creating embryos in a lab devoted to embryonic stem cell research, if not to destroy them during the course of the research?
We have gone beyond embryonic stem cell research, yet you refuse to acknowledge it. You are like those who believe that incandescent light bulbs need to be phased out and only compact fluros are the answer; when LEDs and other light sources are in the process of producing better light without the environmental hazard.

“‘Why aren’t we funding this?!?!?!” - Peter Griffin after being cured by stem cell research from his fast food induced stroke. ”
Uhhh…that was a cartoon…Do you know the difference? Or do you believe there is also a ‘Top Cat’ and ‘Yogi Bear’ too?
“A womans esphocais (sp) was just created using stem cell research. What right do you have to tell her she cannot have it if it will save her life? ”
Was this a result from embryonic stem cell research or adult stem cell research?

‘You are like those who believe that incandescent light bulbs need to be phased out and only compact fluros are the answer; when LEDs and other light sources are in the process of producing better light without the environmental hazard.’
I can speak for Neo, but I myself am for anything within the bounds of human rights that can help cure diseases and prevent loss of needless life. Just like when it comes to the light bulb, I’m all for whatever works best. GE is supposedly in the process of developing a new incandescent bulb which will match the fluorescent ones but I digress.
You imply that going beyond stem cell research is a bad thing. I call it progress. Thats something I have a hard time understanding with the right wing. If it’s progress in the form of precision guided bombs or the latest military weapon they seem to be for it, however if it’s something which can actually help people and make their lives better the proverbial shit hits the fan.
Another question, are you outraged at the loss of all those billions and billions of embryo’s that are destroyed monthly due to God’s natural process?
November 20th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Hermie,
Yes it was a cartoon, but it was one of the funniest family guy episodes to date IMO. Humor.
Was this a result from embryonic stem cell research or adult stem cell research?
My mistake, it was adult stem cells, specifically those of the patient.

I knew this response was brewing as soon as somebody mentioned mice. You don’t seem to understand how medical research works and why these things are done with mice first.

FMRMarine,
AQ is Bad! Osama Bin Ladan is Evil… Yes, yes we know, they want us dead. BUT, is that the only thing we should spend our money on? Sick people die too and not from terrorism but from diseases like Parkinsons and diabetes. Both of which stem cell research has shown great promise in producing a cure. I don’t know about you, but AQ doesn’t really scare me. Not as much as losing all motor functions and becoming completely dependent on loved ones or nurses. Give me anthrax over that any day!
