Things that make you go, “hmmmm”:
Nearly half of Nevadans have had enough of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as the powerful Democrat heads into his re-election campaign, a new Las Vegas Review-Journal poll finds.
About a third of the state’s voters would re-elect Reid if the 2010 election were held today, according to the poll, but 45 percent say they would definitely vote to replace him. Seventeen percent would consider another candidate.
I don’t think there could be anything more fun than running for Senate when you don’t particularly care about the results – but even more fun is having a 1 in 100 chance of winning. Who wants to have some fun?

If you are going to run, just say so. You may even win the primary since no one else has announced and Nevada’s top Republicans either have legal problems or have passed on the race.
Run Mark. Just know how brutal politics is, and the skeletons that may come out.

Oh im SURE you will be the first one that mark notifies………..NOT!
Mark,
I agree with cluster. The first thing you should do is determine if there is anything in your past or present life that you don’t want to become public. Once you get to the general election, every aspect of your life is going to be investigated. Also realize that you will own the comments and beliefs of js, fmr, and jeremiah. I know you will say that their beliefs are not yours, but it is your blog and comments are moderated. Be prepared to defend or expressly repudiate every comment made by you or anyone else here.
These things would happen to any challenger with a blog, whether they are a Democrat or Republican. I’m just making sure you’ve really thought it through and are prepared for what will happen.
Mark
If you decide to cut your wrists and run LOL
make sure you have the financial backing to follow it all the way to the conclusion.
This may be a good time to go for it.

What?? Obama was never held to account for Wright’s or Ayers, treasonous and racist comments and actions, so what makes you think Mark should be held to account for others?
Also, fmrmarine, js and Jeremiah, have merely defended the right of the unborn and staunchly defended the sovereignty of this country. What is to apologize for that?

It sure wasn’t for lack of trying, cluster. The wing-nut element of the Republican party went insane with this nonsense.
Do you really think the far-left fringes of the Democratic party wouldn’t and haven’t done the same to their opposition?
Mark Noonan, or anyone else running for political office, is going to be mercilessly raked over the coals and hung out to dry.
It takes a person with exceptional intestinal fortitude to survive the scrutiny inherent in the dirty business of politics.
CO
right wing nut element?
what a pantload from an athiest foreign stooge-frog.
O-C was a presidential candidate, who sat through 20 years of this racist crap.
this cretin wright, was O-CHIMPY’s friend, mentor, “spiritual” adviser.
THIS was NOT on a BLOG it was his CHURCH!!!!!!!

CO evidently thinks that the treasonous acts of attacks on federal institutions and attempted murder on behalf of Ayers, and racist speeches in a place of worship on behalf of Wright, is equivalent to free speech on blog sites.
Good grief, what a moron.
With poll numbers like those, it’s amazing that Reid hasn’t yet attracted any viable GOP opposition.
Also on the subject of dismal poll numbers, it looks like NV Gov Jim Gibbons is neck deep in them. Actually, that’s a bit of an understatement: Fifty-four percent of the registered voters surveyed said they would definitely vote to replace the Republican incumbent if the 2010 election were held today. Just 11 percent said they would vote to re-elect him, while 30 percent would consider another candidate.
I guess you could say that Gibbons’ numbers are so bad that he’s unlikely to survive the primary. NV Dems, on the other hand, are pretty much saddled with Reid.
Somewhat off topic, but here’s the Really Important Issue at stake in the 2010 election cycle: congressional redistricting.

No, numbnuts, a statement of reality. What would the right do if Kos announced he was going to run for office? They would do what O’Reilly and Hannity have already done and go after him for comments on his blog.
cluster,
What?? Obama was never held to account for Wright’s or Ayers, treasonous and racist comments and actions, so what makes you think Mark should be held to account for others?
I didn’t say he should be held to account. I just said it is going to happen. It would be stupid to think candidates on the right won’t have the same tactics used against them that were used against Obama, even if they were unsuccessful.
Also, fmrmarine, js and Jeremiah, have merely defended the right of the unborn and staunchly defended the sovereignty of this country. What is to apologize for that?
If you think that’s all they have said, you haven’t been reading closely enough.
js – He can be easily dismissed as a troll.
fmr – Constant racial slurs. Believes blacks should be grateful to the whites for everything they have and that slavery was the best thing that ever happened to them. Wishing someone’s family, including children, is raped and murdered. Religious bigotry against all Muslims.
jeremiah – Auditioning to replace Rev. Phelps at Westboro Baptist Church. Believes Catholicism is a false religion, along with Judaism and Islam. Believes homosexuals should be publicly executed. Believes fornicators should be criminally charged and incarcerated. Believes it should be illegal for the races to mix since it against God’s law. Calls for the armed overthrow of the US Government. Calls for arms to be taken up against groups such as Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.
I’ve probably missed some things over the years , but I think that demonstrates my point.
Also realize that you will own the comments and beliefs of KMG1

It is easy to disown the comments of people on the other side, but not so easy to dismiss those on your own side.
Mark,
I’m not trying to bust your bubble. I just wanted to make sure if you decide to do it, you go in with your eyes open.
ricorun,
I’m hoping that we can get some primary opposition to Gibbons – I called for him to resign when it came out that he was having an affair (man can’t stay loyal to his wife, he can’t stay loyal to the electorate). Nevada politics has a curious paralysis about it right now – I don’t think anyone knows what to do for the State and the nation. The heart of the State – Las Vegas – is undergoing complete economic collapse; its gotten so bad that the Strip casinos are actually trying to lure locals in (locals don’t go to the Strip unless they have friends in town who want to do the tourist thing); the politicians in Carson City are diddling around not accomplishing anything other than cutting education (in public perception; its actually a bit worse than that); the governor and Senator Reid are only marginally more popular than the swine flu. Meanwhile, there doesn’t seem to be anyone who wants to step forward.
Actually, I think there is some sort of version of this all around the nation – 2010, I think, will be the best year for the outsider to try for office…running as a GOPer is a natural, but even Third Party candidates will have a shot here and there around the country.
You obviously don’t read Jeremiah’s comments very carefully. AMongst other things, Jeremiah has called for:
1. a religion test for all public employees – Christians only need apply
2. a total dismantling of the separation of Church & State
3. death penalty for homosexuals
4. prohibition of alcohol and summary execution of those found in violation of the prohibition
5. death penalty for all parties involved in an abortion (remember, he’s pro-life).
6. ‘enhanced interrogation’ for criminal investigations
7. a cessation of science education in public schools
8. compulsory christianist indoctrination of all children in public schools.
But he’s just defending the sovereignty of the USA? Get real, he’s an extremist of the worst kind.
kmg,
I’ve considered that – and it is one of the things I ponder while I also check the legal requirements. Given that what dirt there is on me (all of which is years to decades old, depending) is known only to close family and friends, I figure that Harry will have to pay them for the dirt, and so at least people I know and love will profit out of it. I might ask them for a cut – 10% sounds about right…I wonder if I can under-bid them? Hmmm….use Harry’s oppo research money to fund a campaign against Harry; there is a bit of grace to such a plan, isn’t there?
It also helps that I’ve co-written the book (or, more accurately, the chapter – ie, Chapter 2) on Reid and thus know just where to hit him if he goes dirty (which he’ll do against any candidate who starts to look like a winner against him). But I wouldn’t view the campaign like that, anyway – the goal is not so much to win but to shake things up…to let the powerful know that the people are restive and demanding real change. If lightening were to strike, then that would be way cool…but I’m not looking for property for rent in DC, ya know?
kmg,
As an aside – find an office in your area held by some political barnacle and go after him, especially if there’s no opposition developing. Do it – for fun and for your country. Everyone in – put their feet to the fire.
Mark,
I’ve thought about it, but it just isn’t doable. Besides the fact that I’m in one of the reddest areas of the country, I couldn’t afford the pay cut to hold any local, or even statewide, office. Maybe in another 10-15 years when I’ve paid off my debts and I’m nearing my second retirement.
