Which fact amazes me.
Uh, governor – Pound sand. Get lost. Hit the road – the sooner you’re out of politics, the better.

why should he resign since he won’t get reelected.
might as well draw a paycheck, get the resume in order, sort out the marrage if possible & desired, let the media circus move on, interview, prepare.
I just wish the Republicans would space out their sex scandals a bit more. I barely had time to make fun of John Ensign.
Sanford is trying very hard to focus on his private indiscretions and how many women he did actually see while still married. His strategy is simple – deflect from his public responsibilities to his private life, because generally Republicans are more forgiving of those who have private life infidelity than they can safely be about public dereliction of duty.
Whilever he can focus on diverting peoples attention to his private affairs, they are not going to discuss the fact that he deserted his governorship, ignored the chain of command and went AWOL in such a manner as to make it obvious he should NOT be governor.
His plan is simple: Bring as many infidelities out into the open while appearing to be very sorry about them, gain Republican agreement that if he can reconcile with his wife “God will forgive him” for all his sins, and if this comes about then he can remain as governor. Meantime, the fact that he deserted his post etc remains largely uncovered by the sensationalist media.
Just the sort of thing, in fact, that would probably warrant an entire chapter in Matt and Mark’s “Caucus of Corruption” book – if it weren’t for the fact that Sanford is a Republican, not a Democrat.
Speaking of taxpayer funded travel, that just may be the big elephant in the room vis-a-vis Mr. Sanford.
