By using legislative sleight of hand – attaching the Senate’s Obamacare bill to an entirely un-related House bill as an amendment. As usual, trying to prevent the American people from actually reading the bill before it comes to a vote.
Why are they doing it this way? In order to get Obamacare through (placate the kook left base) while maintaining electoral viability (“I didn’t vote in favor of Obamacare, I just voted on a procedural issue.”).

I think a couple years ago the majority of voters would have believed such nonsense, or at least not been paying enough attention to realize what was going on. Those days are gone. The sleeping giant has awoken.
retiredspook,
I think so, too…but the Blue Dogs and the Donk leadership are, I believe, a bit clueless, still.
Having lost the middle, I think the Dems are playing entirely within their base now (a Dick Morris observation), and will do whatever they have to, to pass healthcare legislation. However, a recent rasmussen poll indicates the majority of Americans would prefer nothing be done now without further debate, so I think they are doing this at the risk of their own seat in 2010.
Donkaraoches? Sneak?
Noooooo…
The Blue Dogs, in particular, are faced with a unique political dilemma. IIRC, there are around 50 Dem Representatives from districts that McCain won last fall. They can either go against the wishes of the majority of their constituents, or they can buck their party leadership. God, I love it when Donks are faced with a lose/lose proposition.
What I actually would love to see in November, 2010, is the beginning of a wholesale housecleaning of the entire congress — both parties. A 25% turnover in each of the next 3 or 4 election cycles would go a long way to putting this country back on track.
Spook: A 25% turnover in each of the next 3 or 4 election cycles would go a long way to putting this country back on track.
Why? There is no reason to think the total amount of power weilded by members of congress would change one bit if that happened. Rather, the only thing certain to happen is that power will be redistributed among the various players. How is that necessarily better?
After all, the last two election cycles came closer to meeting your recommendations than any other cycle in years. How did that go?
A thief always comes in the dark.
I think this would be way more than trying to keep the American People from reading the bill. This would be a direct slap in the face with a red hot iron gauntlet to the American People who have clearly stated that they do not want this legislation. Yes, they would like reform, but, clear cut, simplistic reform that actually makes sense and will help reduce costs, not a sop for every Democrat special interest group and a way to put more of our lives into the hands of the federal government, leading to single payer.
I wonder what happened to those Constitution loving liberals, who claimed they loved the Constitution throughout the Bush years, and were almost strict constructionalists. Now, they simply want to throw the 10th amendment out the window.
I wonder if any States will sue the federal government over the violation of the 10th?
Once again the minority here insist they are the majority when they are not, and that they know what the country wants when they don’t.
Arctic Fox,
Certainly there are a majority of liberals in this country, but the consensus varies considerably and widely across party lines. Both sides.
But the ones who care the most about preserving life and treating people fairly are in the minority, ultra-Conservatives, and I include myself in that category.
The people who do not work and are dependent on the government for their needs vastly outnumber those who do work, and the people who do not work put a strain on those who do.
When it comes to healthcare insurance, one should not be constrained by the government, healthcare is a very personal decision and people should have a wide range of plans they can choose from, which is to be free. When the government is making those choices for you, you are not free. Furthermore, when the government is involved in making your healthcare decisions, the government basically owns you, and are putting themselves in a position to make people think they should feel worthy to the government for their lives…In other words, the government is setting themselves up as “Sovereign” over the nation, and peoples life and death decisions, you see. Instead of having the freedom to pray and ask God (Who is our Maker) for the guidance to lead one where they are comfortable.
Man is naturally inclined to injustice, especially for atheists, because they don’t like His authority…so they want to try to push Him out of the picture and set themselves up over life and death choices…it works kind of like a dog-pound, ok … but people are not dogs…but what I’m sayin’ is, at the dog-pound, if you take a dog there so that the human society can find your dog a good home, if they don’t find a home for your dog they usually decide after 14 days to put the dog to sleep, they won’t keep them more than two weeks because they don’t want to spend too much money on any particular animal over what they decide their budget can handle without draining the bank. And well, it’s kind of the same way when the government owns your healthcare decisions and they can decide whoever gets treated and who doesn’t and there’s not much you can do about it, you either bow to the government or don’t get any healthcare at all…we’re dealin’ with people here, see, we’re more than flesh and blood, we have a God-breathed spirit, because we have the power to discern right from wrong, good from evil, but all to often liking the evil more than the good.
The very most important thing here to remember though, is that people who work, you put a tax burden on them, such a tax burden that they will barely survive, they will be slaving their guts out to the government…all the while the government is saying “we need more money”…well, where is your task force, Big Brother? They should try to figure that out, you see … and part of the reason is, over a million of them are being murdered every year, and over a 12 year period 480,000 of them are getting HIV/AIDS, and approximately 41,280 die every year to alcohol related causes … and let’s say the same amount die to cancer every year, and to drug overdoses … a total rough figure, and you’ve soon got the deaths of over 2,000,000 (yes, million) people every year influenced by the government to a large degree that could have lived and been productive citizens. And you see, the people who live productive lives are forced to subsidize those problems through the government asking for more money for them.
Also remember to add in illegal immigrants as a strain on the tax payer dime and time.
People must work harder and longer in order to feed the government’s subsidizing death.
The semantic political spectrum of it is immaterial as far as I’m concerned, because they are putting themselves in the same position as the terrorists did who hijacked four airplanes on September 11, 2001 thinking they could decide the future of the United States.
Personal decisions do not belong to the government, and people should not want the government deciding their personal decisions, because the individual come out disappointed in the long run, especially as it relates to life and death decisions, life and death decisions do not belong to the government or any individual, it’s not even an individual’s choice to choose whether they live or die, they are living because God gave them the breath of Life, and now it is His decision to choose when they die and solely His. God is Sovereign over life and death. Although He does delegate to man the authority to put to death someone who has taken the life of another, so that society will come back in line with and fear His supreme law of ‘Do not murder.’

your european roots and usual lack of knowledge of America once again raises it’s ugly yet amusing head.
We are NOT a democracy…..we are a representative REPUBLIC.
This “I won” and 63% from some pole does not mean legislation will get rammed through.
If you do not like the way OUR govt runs, I suggest YOU return to europe where it is more of your liking.
Until then you would be better served to sit back LEARN and STFU!
