We seem to get stupider about everything by the day:
Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs who captured him are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com.
The three, all members of the Navy’s elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral’s mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial.
Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named “Objective Amber,” told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it.
Now, instead of being lauded for bringing to justice a high-value target, three of the SEAL commandos, all enlisted, face assault charges and have retained lawyers.
Matthew McCabe, a Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class (SO-2), is facing three charges: dereliction of performance of duty for willfully failing to safeguard a detainee, making a false official statement, and assault.
Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe, SO-2, is facing charges of dereliction of performance of duty and making a false official statement.
Petty Officer Julio Huertas, SO-1, faces those same charges and an additional charge of impediment of an investigation.
Boys, if you need money for a defense attorney, you just let me and all other patriotic Americans know…we should be able to raise as much as you need in short order. As for me: word of terrorist vs word of SEAL…think I’ll believe the SEAL. At all events, this is war, not some childrens game – if all he got out of it was a fat lip, then the terrorist should count himself lucky.
We need to stop this sort of thing – we need, that is, to stop persecuting our own because of alleged slights to our enemies. Good discipline must be maintained in the military, but only the most serious infractions should be even brought before higher authorities – a fat lip, if it happened, should have resulted in a verbal reprimand from the SEALs CO, and that be the end of the matter.
Unfortunately, in Obama’s America we are unlikely to see any rationality on this – even the Bush Administration shied away from protecting our troops from this sort of nonsense…Obama’s people might take pride in such a thing.

their JAG attorneys must feel confident to request court martial regardless of beating the detainees or not.
oo told us the conviction statistics of military courts vs. federal courts were higher in federal courts. Here is an example of why that is true.
We have seen too many examples of charges being brought upon our military are frivolous at best to appease some political stooge.
Like Murtha, Kerry, Gore and other looter accusing soldiers of murder and other heinous acts just turn out to be political grand-standing and the soldiers are rightly found innocent.
So if this terrorist resisted arrest…..
This is just another example of hatred toward the military and those behind the scenes doing everything they can to undermine it.

I seriously doupt a federal prosecutor would even seek indictment in this case.
orrin’s fantasy world seems to be a little confusing. He now “seriously doubts” that Americans could be put on trial for their capture of an enemy combatant.
Note: check out Holder’s agenda for KSM and get back to us………
BTW, an Unintended Consequence of such PC foolishness is that fewer terrorists are ‘captured’. Back when the uber-Left were whining about how the poor ‘civlians’ in Iraq were being soooooo victimized—”civlian” meaning not wearing a uniform, in spite of carrying a gun or a bomb—the unofficial standard of fire from US soldiers went from a “two-tap” to a “three tap”—that is, don’t bother with capture, just kill the SOB and move on. The Left will just turn the poor misunderstood baby loose to kill again, so let’s just skip that step.
But the Left have never minded a high body count in the pursuit of undermining legitimate democratic governments in the pursuit of power.
their MILITARY COMMANDER has pursued discipline.
try to keep up please.
ooooh, orrie’s getting bitchy. Maybe those manpris are a little tight……….
Are you suggesting, orrie, that a MILITARY COMMANDER, once charges have been filed, should just arbitrarily discard all procedures and make a unilateral decision to ignore them?
Are you suggesting, orrie, that it was a MILITARY COMMANDER who made the decision to FILE the charges?
Do try to keep up please
A few years ago I sold two horses to a woman who stopped making payments on them and disappeared. I was later contacted by a man who had thought of buying them and learned that I was the breeder, who called me to tell me they were nearly dead due to starvation. I immediately drove to the other state, where the woman had taken them, and in the course of going through the legal manuevers necessary to get them confiscated and placed in a facility where they could be fed and cared for enough to get them strong enough to make the trip home, I spent a lot of time with various law enforcement officials in the county.
The district judge told me a story of walking out the door of the courthouse to come up behind this woman, who was standing there viciouly punching herself in the face and scratching herself and yanking out hair. He just stepped back inside and went back to his office, where she appeared a few minutes later, bedraggled and bleeding, with a demand that he arrest her ex husband for beating her up.
This woman was about 5′ tall, had to come in at well under 100 pounds, and had done significant damage to herself, including what developed into a black eye and several bruises. She was just a nut—not a dedicated killer.
So I am hardly convinced by a “cut lip”.
BTW, after this woman spent hours in the sheriff’s office filing her response, the sheriff reports had been filed, and was seen all over the country, including loading 50 lb bags of feed and heavy bales of hay into her truck and then unloading them at her place (evidently thinking that if feed was present on her property the actual condition of the horses would be overlooked) she reported to a hospital in the next county with various bruises and two cracked ribs, which she claimed I inflicted upon her. As she didn’t have these injuries when she made her response at the sheriff’s office, and as I was in the courthouse all day going through the paperwork necessary to get my horses cared for and returned to me, it was clear that these injuries had happened without my involvement. The sheriff and the judge agreed that it would be very consisent with her history to find a way to crack some ribs.
So now we are supposed to find a “cut lip” on a terorist murderer compelling evidence of mistreatment?
oh my gosh amazona, I’m saying no charges should’ve been brought except maybe for a savage beating which the linked article did NOT say it was.

my response to tired was to note that I seriously doupt a federal prosecutor would’ve indicted.
tired & I basically agreed.
comprehende?
So, orrie,, what are you whining about?
ok amazona, here’s a tabloid factoid which we both know you gobble-up!

Two of these men are being charged with making false statements and one with impeding an investigation. Although these are things that Republicans get away with on a regular basis, they are conduct unbecoming of officers, particularly SEALS.
I don’t think anyone is too worried about the assault charges – they will likely be withdrawn as part of a plea deal. Prosecuting lawyers normally bring all possible charges even if they don’t expect to win them all. But it is disturbing that SEALS should think it fine to lie to investigators, and that is most likely what’s prompted this action.
UK: NATO to offer 5,000 troops for Afghanistan
By DAVID STRINGER
Associated Press Writer
LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Wednesday that several NATO nations will jointly offer 5,000 more troops for Afghanistan, as London and Washington push allies to take on a greater share of the war burden.

So the fox asserts that the complaint is really about making false statements …guess that “assault” thing isn’t very relevant…. and then leaps from that to the claim that, of course, these guys LIED.
Not only LIED, mind you, but thought it was “fine” to lie.
That RRL crystal ball is really getting a workout here, folks. Tip: Let it cool off a little between its forays into the hearts and minds of strangers and its determination of fact.
Nothing is a lie until the truth has been established, foxy’s assertions to the contrary. So an accusation of making false statements is meaningless unless and until the truth of the statements is established. Meaningless but yummy yummy yummy, another springboard into some goofball generalization that “.. these are things that Republicans get away with on a regular basis…”
See, this is what passes for intellectual poltical discourse on the far Left—you quote an article about a variety of charges being filed, you then cherry-pick which of those charges you determine will be thrown out, you arbitrarily assign guilt on the others, you redefine the whole event to focus on the charges you prefer, and you use your personal attribution of guilt to slope off into some unrelated but evidently personally satisfying attack on REPUBLICANS.
And then you whine because you are not taken seriously as a political commentator.
PS…Americans are still getting health care. Guess that determination to “block health care” by those wascawwy wepubwicans hasn’t been as succesful as you claimed.
FAUX
once AGAIN the entire point flys past that pimple on your shoulders that you refer to as a “brain”.
If you start prosecuting soldiers for “assault” on an enemy for giving him a fat lip, then expect these very soldiers to cover one anthers ass, lie if you have to to cowardly rotten “career REMF’s POS’s like kerry and murtha, or those who would bring charges for this craziness.
I agree with Amazona…..KILL them period.
Amazona, do you have to practice at being that stupid or does it come naturally to you?
I did NOT claim that they lied. I said that if they did lie – which I would remind you has yet to be proven, and therefore the presumption of innocence applies – then it’s a serious matter.
But they ARE charged with various counts of deception of one kind or another. Their integrity has been called into question by such charges being laid, and to me that calling into question of their integrity is a more serious matter for officers belonging to a highly respected group.
Mark
when the NVA soldiers were CAPTURED they were interrogated on helicopters out over the sea.
When any info was extracted, they all committed suicide by jumping out of the helicopter.
Strange people, Oh well at least no “assault” charges were ever brought against US soldiers.
Assuming on the basis of this sketchy news article that the soldiers are completely blameless is not conservative thinking but simple authoritarian behavior. Our Soldiers: “Always right, even when wrong”; and, Our Enemies: “Well, they should have thought of that before they became our enemies.” Leaping to the defense of authorities on the basis of an assumption is the antithesis of conservative thinking.
In truth, the military is the last place you should examine for creeping political correctness. Try firing someone for being gay at your office and see where it gets you. In our military, that’s business as usual.
Also, the term “Politically Correct” or “PC” was first used by liberals in the 1980s to deride uber-Berkeley authoritarian liberals. Instead of pilfering the abandoned slang of liberals, we should call this behavior what it really is: An encroachment on our liberties, particularly Free Speech.
I have complete faith that our military and our laws will get closer to the truth of this situation than the media will. And I do not hesitate to include “Blogs for Victory” under the umbrella term “media” as long as it practices the same illogic as the mainstream media.
LifeSiteNews.com reported on May 19, 2005:
“Political Correctness is Marxism, with all that implies: loss of freedom of expression, thought control, inversion of the traditional social order and, ultimately, a totalitarian state.”
So runs the controversial thesis of a collaborative book recently published by the Free Congress Foundation–a U.S. conservative think-tank–on its website, entitled, “Political Correctness:” A Short History of an Ideology.
The authors of “Political Correctness” attempt to trace the PC movement back to its origins—Marxism and the Frankfurt school of thought. By so doing they claim to uncover the true and sinister purpose of political correctness—the complete eradication of traditional Western Culture. They also attempt to demonstrate how deeply political correctness has penetrated into every aspect of Western Culture, and how damning its presence is.
Shortly after the first practical attempts to implement Marxist economic socialism it became clear that the theories of Marx were limited. In order to achieve any notable revolution it was necessary that that revolution should focus not only on the economic order, but also, and firstly, on the cultural. This is the root of cultural Marxism. The Frankfurt school was its most eloquent proponent. According to the Free Congress Foundation, political correctness is one of the ideological offspring of this school.
Wilhelm Reich, one of the early members of the Frankfurt school, wrote a book entitled The Authoritarian Personality. This makes the sweeping claim, according to Raymond Raehn, “that the presence in a society of Christianity, capitalism, and the patriarchal-authoritarian family created a character prone to racial prejudice and German fascism”—that is, everything Western is necessarily prejudiced. The solution according to the Frankfurt academics was that “the patriarchal social structure would be replaced with matriarchy; the belief that men and women are different and properly have different roles would be replaced with androgyny; and the belief that heterosexuality is normal would be replaced with the belief that homosexuality is ‘normal’.”
The idea, then, is the complete eradication of Western civilization to be replaced with something new. That something new is nothing less than “a society of radical egalitarianism enforced by the power of the state.” And yet, as the authors of “Political Correctness” make clear, all such past attempts at enforced equality have ended up with the gulag and the concentration camp. There is no reason for believing it will be any different this time around.
The effects of this philosophy have become strikingly clear in our day. Co-author Dr. Gerald L. Atkinson outlines the proposed tactics of the early cultural Marxists. The immediate goal is to destroy “all barriers to the introduction of more women and minorities throughout the power structure’.” These methods of so doing include “laws and lawsuits, intimidation, and demonizing of white males as racists and sexists.” A strangle-hold on popular media and the universities and what they are allowed to say and teach is a key element of their long-term goals.
To pro-life, pro-family proponents, in an age where a man can be arrested for proclaiming sodomy to be a sin, or who can be fired from a teaching position for daring to discuss God, these tactics will sound eerily familiar.
However, the authors of “Political Correctness” claim that the cultural Marxists, under the guise of tolerance and equality, have not yet won. They urge “open defiance”—that is, an unapologetic confronting of truth and return to traditional Western lifestyles—as a necessary and proper method of defeating political correctness and bringing about a return to the noblest aspects of our Western Heritage.
Soooo sorry, foxy. When you said “.. it is disturbing that SEALS should think it fine to lie to investigators…
” I foolishly leaped to the conclusion that what you meant was that you found it disturbing that SEALS should think it fine to lie to investigators.
You have to admit, it did kind of sound like you were disturbed that SEALS not only lied to investigators but also thought it “fine” to do so.
As a matter of fact, it sounded a LOT like that.
As a matter of fact, that’s what it SAID.
Now, if you want to explain that your syntax was a little out of whack and you were only disturbed at the IDEA, the POSSIBILITY, that SEALS etc etc, go right ahead. If you had said “.. it would be if SEALS should think it fine to lie to investigators…” and I took the statement to mean you were saying “… it is disturbing that SEALS should think it fine to lie to investigators, you might have a point.
Otherwise, I just quoted you.
Guess you’re stuck with claming I took your statement “out of context”.
Personally I just don’t know why such a big deal is being made about a terrorist getting a punch in the face. There’s a war on. He’s a terrorist. So he got bitched slapped. Enough said. He probably got mouthy and somebody lost their temper. No need for charges to be laid. Jeez!
Did anyone listen to the military intelligence officer who called into Rush’s show this morning re: this? Muy interesante. Suffice to say that there is not a lot of respect amongst the enlisted for the politically correct military brass. And this is also, in the opinion of many, to be payback for the Somalia pirate episode which evidently ended in a manner contrary to white house wishes, which is also quite interesting.
Cluster,
Its an unfortunate face of life that a large number of mid-levels officers who want to become generals over the next four to eight years will trim their sails to the prevailing winds – stand firm on real military issues and Obama won’t even know what you’re talking about; truckle to the ruling political correctness and Obama will put a star on your shoulder.
Canuck,
Bingo.
AF,
I’d say you’re beneath contempt but you passed that a long time ago…
canuck
There’s a war on. He’s a terrorist. So he got bitched slapped. Enough said. He probably got mouthy and somebody lost their temper. No need for charges to be laid. Jeez!
I said the exact same thing……..he is lucky nobody did like the did in the old corps and gave him a butt stroke (with a rifle) and knocked his teeth out and broke his jaw.
Hell they did that in boot camp let alone war.
But I guess in the days of panties on the head, barking doga and nekked piles of muslems gets one 10 years things have changed….WE ARE DOOMED!!
These guys cut your throat while videoing it, drag our bodies through the streets, hang us from bridges and burn the body..yet a punch in the mouth to them gets US a court martial….WE HAVE ALREADY LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
our own govt has become a worse enemy than the islamists, how much longer can we survive??
