What Did They Fight For?

At Trenton, in 1776, some of Washington’s men marched barefoot in the snow. At Spotsylvania, in 1864, Lee and Grant’s men fought hand to hand, in the rain, for 18 hours. At Tarawa, in 1943, the Marines waded through neck-deep water in the face of Japanese machine guns in order to get to shore. In 1950, General Walker issued a “stand or die” order to his 8th Army in Korea – and plenty of them did die, but they also stood.

Why did these men do that? For more than two centuries American fighting men (and, these days, fighting women) have willingly gone in to the very worst places imaginable and won victories against all odds. Why?

Did they do it so that we could have a bloated Department of Veterans Affairs with a backlog of nearly 1,000,000 claims cases? Did they do it so that fat cat bankers could be bailed out by middle class taxpayers? Did they do it so that our factories could be shipped to China by a collusion of government and business short-sightedness and corruption?

Were they laying down their lives so that terrorists could get Miranda rights? For that matter, were they sacrificing so that criminals could get off on a technicality? Was their blood shed so that in academia, media and the political left their nation – and their sacrifice – could be slandered at will? Were the noblest sacrifices of youth given so that wastrels could sit around collecting government money?

No – they fought and they sacrificed so that their people, we Americans, could be free. Free not to debase ourselves or become the lazy, kept serfs of the super-State – but free to live our dreams, and work hard, and sacrifice in our own turn so that this last, best hope for Man on earth would be preserved. They died that we might live. And what have we done with their sacrifice? Think for a moment of some poor son of our land whose life blood pours out at Yorktown, Gettysburg, Normandy or Pleiku…his life is just slipping away, his family will never see him again; he is giving his all for you…have you lived up to that sacrifice? Have any of us?

This is the test we are given, the task we must perform. They gave their all for a vision of America – for the Founder’s vision. Those words written on paper in 1776 in our Declaration of Independence and in 1787 in our Constitution are what they were defending – and it is, then, up to us to ensure that those ideals are maintained and given their full life in our lives and in our government. If we will not fight for the America they died for, then we are cheating them, and we would be justly damned before history and all decent men and women if we failed in this trust.

We’ve been slack. We’ve let a lot of things slip. We’ve been too quiet – though we are now waking up. But, beware! The siren song of sleep is being spun out – there are those, still, who warn us not to be too ardent. After all, we might offend someone and you know how bad that would be…they want us quieted, again. And some of them claim to be on our side! The whole power structure of money and politics is dependent upon us betraying America, and betraying those patriots who gave their all.

We dare not do that – we must fight, and we must be willing to give our all in this cause of American liberty. If not now, when? If not us, who?

The fought for a “living and breathing” Constitution that changes with the times not through amendments but liberal activist judges’ rulings.

    WE
fought for Truth, Justice, and the American way.

We fought for freedom, liberty for all.
We fought for GOD and COUNTRY
We for YOU and your children.

others stayed on the porch, doing drugs, drinking beer, sucking the very lifeblood we shed for them, and now they want more.

This time let them bleed for it!

    lets not forget……

Siege of Khe Sanh – The longest battle of Vietnam comes to an end

The American Forces had finally retaken Route 9 by April 8, ending the 77 day siege of Khe Sanh – the biggest single battle of the Vietnam war to that point. The official assessment of the North Vietnamese Army was just over 16 000 killed. Thousands more were probably killed by American bombing.

    • Amazona says:

And though we never lost a battle in Viet Nam, we lost the war. Or, rather, victory was taken from us by the Left, which then proceeded to malign and smear the brave men and women who fought so successfully. They even tried to elect one who committed perjury in front of the US Congress to spead vicious lies about our military.

actually nixon was in office when the paris (sellout) accords were negoiated & we unassed nam.

      • Amazona says:

I am offended by those who assume the right to use words like ‘nam’ when they never served there. It is a Kerryesque attempt to associate oneself with those who actually served with honor. Veterans of Viet Nam EARNED the right to use the colloquial phrase. No one else did.

And what does Nixon (name capitalized) have to do with anything on the thread?

they fought because the british were running rough shod over them…they fought because in thier hearts…the knew that the only way to find justice was through the truth…and that slavery was not an option…they fought because tens of thousands had already died in the blitzkreig…and they knew that if we didnt make a stand…we probably would end up just like the chinese…they fought because they believed in what they stood for…

do we believe in the original intent of the unbending constitution…are we ready to put our feet on the ground and die to guarantee that our children dont end up in some forced march to poverty and slavery so the government can give away thier future to someone they like better….will you bleed for your fathers…and give your life for your grandchildren…so that justice…and the truth…are upheld in our lands?…is this what its all about…dying because socialist/marxist and communists desire our inheritance…do you stand to destroy our constitution…or to uphold it…thats the question…there is no middle ground…

Not an American. But you seem to know what America wants and needs.

Tell you what, you concern yourself with YOUR country, and we’ll take care of ours, thanks.

      • Amazona says:

You know what, Mo—-I don’t buy the claim that these guys are actually from other countries. It’s a theme with a certain mentality, and possibly a certain group of people, but it does not ring true. I work with a man from another country, a man who is quite fluent in English, and have worked with others and known others. Even the most fluent have not had the American idioms or ease of writing that these guys show.

I think it is part of that Euro-worship that permeates the far Left, that conviction that any opinion offered by anyone from any other country is just so awesome and credible.

And we just think it’s rude. Yeah, great tactic—alienate people by barging into something that is none of their business and then lecturing us. I’ve asked foreign-born friends if this is acceptable behavior in their countries, and the answer is always no, that it would be considered very low-class and crude.

Which pretty much fits in with the way they come across.

I especially loved the forker efforts—they decided to pose as Brits, which they seemed to think could be accomplished by constantly using money references so they could follow a number with (USD) and the frequent use of the word “bloody”. (Now we have earl grey.)
It was so funny. I kept expecting a “pip pip, old chap. I do believe I’ll have a cuppa. Jolly good.”

I just write them off, especially when they have the same writing style, vocabulary, racial attitudes and other biases and of course incoherent rage at conservatives.

I would prefer that my comments be left for all to see and judge for themselves. I can take the embarrassment, if that is what happens. I suggest that it was to save the person who claimed that Lee and Grant both won the civil war. If you don’t believe what I say, read it yourself. Read the article.

      Amazona,
Did you read my comment or did one of those turrets-like insults free itself from the weak tether that was holding it back.

(Ed. Note: Well, we tried. Some people can’t be taught save by experience)

      • Amazona says:

Sooo sweet to see that you two have found each other—they say there is someone for everyone, if you just look hard enough, and far enough, and in your cases deep enough.

A question, though—how do my comments make you think they come from a turret? It’s odd imagery, kind of a verbal-fighting-machine-cutting-down-silly-opponents-with-a-spray-of-words-fired-from-a-turret-mounted…….nah, it just doesn’t hang together. Too convoluted. Like most of what you say, it just doesn’t make sense.

Which was the point of my fleeting comment—it is far too late to prevent you from embarrassing yourself.

Poor sliccr has quite the crush on Mark, doesn’t he? Only the rejection of an urequited love could generate that much bitchiness. But maybe you can take his mind off his obsession with the many many MANY who have ignored him and you two can indulge in mutual admiration of each other’s—–charms. ‘Cause no one else gonna find you charming.

It seems that slick has this delusional image of himself as striding valiantly into the blog stunning us all with his brilliance and cowing us with his insights, so the only thing we can do as we whimper in defeat is try to silence him.

I say “delusional” because in fact he waddles in, emitting a sour odor of failure and resentment, and starts to randomly hurl insults and attacks, sniveling when he is, as must happen quite often, ignored or found too offensive to tolerate.

You two need to find a nice Leftist blog where you all get treated the same no matter how little of value you contribute, where everyone gets a trophy just for participating, and where no one expects any more of you. I’m sure they’ll let you sit next to each other so you can admire each other’s brain farts and high-five each other on your irrelevant inanities.

But here—–here you’re just kind of a freak show.

      • cam1 says:

        Amazona,
Did you read Mark’s post? Did you see where he claimed that both Lee and Grant won the Civil War?

Had a liberal commentator made such a claim you would have been all over it with your free flowing derision.

And no, the turrets I was referring to is the one from turrets syndrome which would appear to explain you proclivity for insults without basis.

Oh by the way, your superior intellect is a figment of your imagination. Sure you do quite well when you ascribe beliefs and arguments to those you disagree with that are not their own and then proceed to masterfully dismantle them. While this gives the appearance of intellect, a closer examination reveals that you are actually arguing with yourself. Brilliant strategy when many of the conservatives here are willing to cheer such dishonesty.

      • neocon1 says:

        came0

that both Lee and Grant won the Civil War?

        Coke or Crack?
        put down the pipe.

  11. Amazona says:

Cam, you are a gem, and a credit to your movement. I will cheerfully argue that in spite of your freeform hostility and nastiness, you do have some value as entertainment, if nothing else.

Now let me see if I understand this. The Colts fought the Saints in the Super Bowl, and by saying this I am claiming that both teams won?

Oh, oh!! I’ve got it!!! The Americans fought the Germans during the Normandy Invasion, and by admitting that I am saying both countries won!

I think I’m catching on. That’s the rule isn’t it? Because Mark said “…Lee and Grant’s men fought hand to hand, in the rain, for 18 hours…” and from that you extrapolate that what he REALLY said was that both of those generals won the Civil War.

This comment of yours is invaluable to those who might have any desire at all to wonder just how your mind works and how you manage to come up with your amazing, shall we call them, “insights”. (I can’t imagine anyone caring, unless we have a psychiatrist posting to the blog, but IF…)

I could probably have contained my mirth, having been taught that it is cruel to laugh at the kids on the short bus, but then there is the ‘turrets syndrome’ thing and I’m sorry, but that is too hysterical to let slide by.

We’ve been having some fun with that here—at your expense, I assure you—defining ‘turrets syndrome’. I suggested it was ringing in the ears, from firing those turret guns, but I think the winner is hemorhoids—those turret seats are not very ergonomic, you know.

Oh, I finally figured out you probably meant “Tourette’s Syndrome” but by then the hilarity had taken over. Thank you for brightening a gloomy day. (and I’ll bet a surly chap like you doesn’t hear THAT very often.)

    • Mark Noonan says:

And we even tried to save Cam from public ridicule on that!

      • Amazona says:

Hey, Mark, if he is so intent on pursuing this headlong rush into idiocy and ridicule, I am happy to watch and cheer. If he was nice it might be different, but some people are just so nasty that it is hard to feel sorry for them as they crash and burn.

I’ve got a good view from my turret…

      • cam1 says:

        Amazona,
What makes you say I am nasty? My brand of retort is not much different than yours when it comes to the level of nasty.

(Ed. Note: “It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.” – St Francis of Assisi.)

    • cam1 says:

I’m going to try this one more time.

At Spotsylvania, in 1864, Lee and Grant’s men fought hand to hand, in the rain, for 18 hours.

Why did these men do that?

These men refers to both Lee and Grant’s men. No?

For more than two centuries American fighting men (and, these days, fighting women) have willingly gone in to the very worst places imaginable and won victories against all odds.

American fighting men then references “these men”, no?

So, it appears that Mark is saying Grant and Lee’s men, these men, American fighting men have won victories against all odds.

      Or put it another way,
      If A = B and B = C then C = A

If you can’t follow that I can’t help it.

    • cam1 says:

All right, now that you point on the turrets comment I’ll have to say that is pretty funny. You got me on that one. I tell you I checked the spelling on it, it just didn’t seem right but I found it spelled that way several different times. I can see why it would be funny and your jokes at my expense are hilarious. I would have jumped on that one myself. Ha Ha. I’m glad that I could help :)

    • cam1 says:

      Surly?

      Now that hurts.

Seriously though, I want to know which one of you is sunshine and lollipops. Most of the time Mark is pretty congenial but I have seen him get pretty nasty as well. But the rest of you just seem to be nasty most of the time. Well, that’s not true of Jer but he just has so many off the wall takes sometimes I find it hard to discuss things with him. Even he has stepped over the line a few times.

So why is it that you find me Surly?
