Liberals brought us rampant drug use and global warming – now these two hallmarks of liberal progress are on a collision course:
Cocaine users were last night accused of helping to make global warming worse.
MPs on the home affairs select committee said the drug was devastating Colombian rainforests because trees are knocked down to grow coca plants.
Group chairman Keith Vaz said: “We were horrified to learn for every few lines of cocaine snorted in a London club, four square metres of rainforest is destroyed.”
Who knew that personal irresponsibility could cause problems? Some day liberals might even figure that extra-marital sex can be a tricky business, too. A whole bunch of liberalism gets called in to question here.
Unless, of course, liberals want to drop the whole global warming thing?

At first I thought this was a joke, but I didn’t see any “Humor” tags on the post, so apparently you are serious about this.
No, it’s not just a liberal thing. However, it’s condoned and to a large degree defended on the left side of the isle.
Remember the “it does not rise to the level of an impeachable offence” line? The right holds itself and is held by the left, threw the charge of hypocrisy, too much higher moral standard than the left is held to.
joe, I think you started by grossly misrepresenting every single thing Mark said, and then going on to a rather shrill, Emily Litella-type response to what you yourself inserted into the discussion.
As several of us have noted, oh, I don’t know, maybe HALF A MILLION TIMES on this blog, all humans are prone to error, bad judgement, stupidity, corruption, etc. All. Take a moment to let that sink in, as evidently it hasn’t so far. All. Conservatives, liberals, Christians, Jews, atheists, monarchists, anarchists, arborists, whatever. All.
This is precisely why society has to impose certain boundaries, rules, laws, principles, processes. This is precisely why various elements of civilized society have established codes of acceptable behavior.
The point of the thread is to point out that when, for various reasons, a segment of society decides that these codes and standards are not necessary, or are even wrong, when these boundaries are eliminated or people are encouraged to ignore them, the weaknesses to which we are all vulnerable tend to expand and create problems.
Example: Some people thought it was sooooo cruuuueeeel to have pregnant girls embarassed by out-of-wedlock pregnancies, so they worked on trying to alleviate the shame and embarassment of such a condition—-and within a couple of decades, teen and out of wedlock pregnancy had become socially acceptable and even, in some sub-cultures, desirable. The societal boundaries had helped control this phenomenon, and when they were removed, illegitimacy skyrocketed.
Every time a societal boundary is removed or weakened, a corollary problem appears.
That’s all.
But as it has been, to a great degree, the fuzzy-minded who have bought into the great AGW hoax with such fervor, this may be a great way to get through to them,

It turns out that the excrement of grazing animals, combined with the aereation of the ground due to their hooves, kept the land open to absorption of water, and fertilized it, and the grazing stimulated forage growth.
And now we learn that a favorite activity of the RRL is in fact causing more damage to THE PLANET than these other fake enemies of THE PLANET.
I’m hoping for a report that bleating about unfair treatment of terrorists is actually more corrosive than normal exhalations, and therefore damaging the ozone layer. Now, THAT would be justice!

You admit to living the life of a liberal, or at least trying to, for many decades and then returning to the Church, this seems to always happen to men and women when the blush of their youth has fully faded for those who were weak minded ideologically in the first place.

Such an odd little creature, claiming some kind of superiority for something she has no control over, a mere chronological accident of timing that will, inexorably, change. While it has become apparent over the months of our acquaintance this is probably all she can possibly preen about, is her only claim to any type of superiority, it is still strange to see such smugness over such a trivial and fleeting characteristic.
Tell me—did I read her right? Is she actually claiming that hedonism is an IDEOLOGY??? I might be making an assumption here, linking her use of the word ‘liberal’ to the sentence above its appearance, where she talks about extramarital sex,. It is such a poorly written little diatribe it is hard to tell what she is really getting at, other than indulging in a little spiteful spitting.
However, let’s pretend to take her seriously for a moment, just for a change of pace.

Then there is the additional goofiness of yet another straw man—that extramarital sex is a “big bad thing”, so she can sneer at it. Guess this is a thesaurus-free rant, eh, sadie? Note the failure to deny that promiscuous sex creates a lot of problems, just a defense of it, as far as I can tell. Or just a smirk at those who don’t defend it.
And the very odd comment that growing out of a selfish and thoughtless phase of careless youth into a stage of responsiblity and awareness of consequences is proof of “weak minded ideology”.
However, it could easily lead to a discussion of liberalism depending on and even representing weak minded ideology. That would be the clearest conclusion of any based on this disjointed little spurt of nasty.

I know a young woman who was and probably still is a complete hedonist. She was promiscuous, used drugs and drank heavily, and had no boundaries. She got into a relationship with a young man when they both lived in L.A. and she was quite smitten with him, and then was devastated—and I mean cut off at the knees, wiped out, destroyed—when his family came to town and he did not take her to meet them, saying as nicely as he could that she was simply not the kind of girl you take home to meet your mother.
I was amazed that she was amazed. I mean, it was pretty obvious to anyone who knew her that she was a party girl, but not one you would ever consider making a part of your life.
I haven’t kept in touch with her so I don’t know what she did with her life–I saw her a couple of years ago but didn’t exactly ask if she was still screwing her way through SoCal—but I still remember the stunned disbelief when the reality of that one relationship hit home.

Did greenpeace liberals ever stop to think how much gas is produced by cats and dogs, horses, sheep, cattle, deer, buffalo, elk, moose, camels, cape buffalo, elephants, gazelles, brown bears, polar bears, black bears, wolves, raccoons, beavers. Every living thing expels some amount of gas, whether it be in small amounts like a squirrel, or in large volumes, like say a big belgian draft-horse.
What gas humans or cows may produce is dwarfed by all the other creatures combined. Even the earth lets off farts, like in hot springs or geysers.
