Another Corrupt Democrat Trying To Get Away With His Crimes

Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, who was convicted of bribery charges, has been released from prison pending an appeal of his conviction. Siegelman contends that the investigation into his illegal actions was politically motivated. When you consider how many Republicans were brought down by the same Justice Department, it’s a rather ridiculous claim for him to make — but not an uncommon ploy of corrupt Democrats to deflect attention away from their own guilt.

What makes his claims even more ironic is the Democrats’ undeniable politically motivated crusade against corruption leading up to the 2006 midterm elections. As Mark and I documented in our book, Caucus of Corruption, Democrats ignored the rampant corruption in their own party while they simultaneously campaigned against a so-called “culture of corruption” in the Republican Party. Truth be told, the Justice Department under President Bush did more to put away corrupt Republicans than the Democratic Party has ever done to rid itself of its own corrupt members in its entire history.

So, really, it’s time for the Democratic Party to cut the crap. We can only clean up corruption if we go after all corrupt politicians, just the ones in your opposing party. No more excuses. Siegelman is guilty, and he should serve his time.

How Ironic

Louisiana’s Daily Advertiser quotes Senator Mary Landrieu on governor Kathleen Blanco, “In a state that’s been tarred with a lot of corruption charges, she has served with a great deal of integrity.”

Meanwhile, as we’ve pointed out before, Landrieu is tarred with her own bribery scandal.

Senator Landrieu Accused of Accepting Bribe

When a liberal group is forced to concede that a Democrat is corrupt, then that Democrat is undeniably up the creek…

Impeached Judge Hastings Resigns from House Intelligence Committee

This morning it was reported that Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL), an impeached federal judge (and convicted by the Senate), resigned from the House Intelligence Committee.

One has to wonder why someone who was impeached, convicted and stripped of his position as a result of federal bribery charges was ever put on the sensitive committee in the first place, considering that those on the committee are given access to our country’s most secret intelligence information.

More Bribery Charges To Be Filed Against Jefferson…

More trouble for indicted congressman William Jefferson

Prosecutors have accused Representative William J. Jefferson, Democrat of Louisiana, of soliciting bribes in two suspected schemes that are separate from the bribery charges he already faces, according to a published report.

Prosecutors said no new charges would be filed because of the accusations revealed in the document, filed late Friday in Federal District Court in Alexandria and obtained by The Washington Post. But prosecutors planned to use the latest accusations during Mr. Jefferson’s trial as evidence of a pattern of wrongdoing.

The government says that in 2002, Mr. Jefferson asked a lobbyist for an American oil services company for payments of $10,000 a month for a family member. In exchange, Mr. Jefferson said he would help the company promote business in Africa. The lobbyist turned down the request, according to the document.

Mr. Jefferson later made a deal to urge the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to do business with an American rocket launching services and technology company, according to the filing. The company is accused of agreeing to pay Mr. Jefferson’s family business and a relative in exchange for his help.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Jefferson declined to comment.

And to think it wasn’t that long ago that Nancy Pelosi tried to put him on the Homeland Security Committee.
