We Owe a Colombian Soldier $5 Million

That terrorist the Colombian’s killed the other day? Very much wanted by the United States:

March 22, 2006

ATTORNEY GENERAL GONZALES…The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia or FARC, is one of the Justice Department’s highest priority targets in our fight against illegal drug trafficking. For years, this group has controlled the production and distribution of massive amounts of cocaine that ends up in America’s communities. And today I’m pleased to announce important steps in bringing the leaders of this narco terrorist group to justice.

A federal indictment was unsealed today in Washington, D.C. charging 50 members of FARC’s policymaking and operational leadership with importing more than $25 billion worth of cocaine into the United States and other countries.

This is the largest narcotics trafficking indictment ever filed in U.S. history, and fuels our hope to reduce narco violence in Colombia and stem the tide of illegal drugs entering our country…

MS. PATTERSON: I am very pleased to announce today that the Department of State, through its Narcotics Rewards program, is offering rewards of up $5 million each for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of seven secretariat leaders of the FARC. And these are Pedro Antonio Marin, also known as Tirofijo. Luis Agar Davia Sylvan, also known as Raoul Reyes. Luciano Marin Arango, also known as Ivan Marquez. Guillermo Leon Sanchez, also known as Alphonso Cano. Manuel Munoz Ortiz, also known as Ivan Rios. Victor Julio Suarez Rojas, also known as Mono Jojoy. And Rodrigo Londono Echeverry, also known as Timoleon Jimenez.

The Department of State is also offering rewards of up to $2.5 million for the arrest and/or conviction of another 17 members of the FARC whose names will be made available to you. (emphasis on the guy the Colombians killed)

So, the Colombians nailed a guy who has put quite a lot of drugs on America’s streets (and thus into quite a few American children, among many others) and who we were willing to pay $5 million for…bringing him to trial would have been better, but its not like an innocent person was killed, from what I can see. And now that we find out that Chavez was backing this cretin, we have to work on the assumption that Chavez is actively or passively involved in sending drugs to the United States as well as being a State-sponsor of terrorism.

Anyone really want to wonder which side we should be on in this conflict?

And, also, this is one of those calls at 3am…as per the Hillary ad, whom do you wish to answer such calls after January 20th, 2009?

Going After Chavez’ Laundered Money?

From World Check:

Reliable Washington sources report that the Treasury Department of the United States, and other government agencies, whilst searching for assets held in financial institutions in connection with the ongoing Global War on Terrorism, have identified billions of dollars of laundered funds worldwide, all secreted by key senior Venezuelan government officials, a few military officers, and a large number of Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), for their own corrupt use and benefit, and for that of designated global terrorist organisations, on the express orders of President Hugo Chavez. The US now reportedly intends to officially name Venezuela as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, and seize all the hidden overseas accounts it has located. Miami banks alone hold several billion dollars of illicit money, and accounts have also been identified in places like China, Andorra, and Panama, and most of the major offshore financial centres. The funds rightfully belong to the people of Venezuela, as they were looted from government accounts, taken as bribes and kickbacks, and earned from narcotics trafficking activities aided and abetted through illegal governmental involvement. The other individuals targeted in this investigation are members of the Bolivarian Elite, a group of businessmen close to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias, and his family, and whose aim is to keep his corrupt regime in power. These Bolivarians have earned obscene amounts of money through corrupt government contracts, outright theft of government assets, and favoured transactions that have resulted in their acquisition of major assets that rightfully belonged to the Republic of Venezuela.

The date on this story if February 26th - ie, before the Chavez-inspired crisis erupted over Colombia’s attack on a terrorist camp in Ecuador. Could it be that Chavez was aware of all this, and decided to pre-empt attention by stiring up a war scare? Only time will tell…

Hugo Chavez: State Sponsor of Terrorism

You lefties love him - now explain this:

…evidence found in the raid suggests that Chavez recently gave the FARC $300 million, Colombia’s national police chief said Monday.

Speaking at a news conference, Gen. Oscar Naranjo said evidence in three seized computers also suggests FARC had given Chavez 100 million pesos when he was a jailed rebel leader.

Naranjo said other evidence in the computers suggests FARC purchased 50 kilograms of uranium this month.

“The revelations about agreements between the terrorist group FARC and the governments of Ecuador and Venezuela will be submitted to the Organization of American States and the United Nations,” Uribe’s communique said Monday.

Naranjo said the evidence also shows that Ecuador’s minister of security met recently with Reyes, and that Ecuador had “an interest in formalizing relations with the FARC,” according to an account published on a Colombian government Web site.

Seems to me that Colombia has a justification for war with Venezuela - and given this, Colombia’s very restrained response to Chavez’ provocations is all the more remarkable. In Chavez, we’re dealing with an unstable, out-of-control thug - there doesn’t have to be war, but there does have to be a campaign to isolate this political cancer until the people of Venezuela get rid of it. Always keep in mind that the people catching the brunt of Chavez’ insanity are the long-suffering people of Venezuela - our job is to assist them in any way possible in enduring and eventually ending the Chavez dictatorship. Meanwhile, we have to ensure that Chavez is contained in Venezuela.
