New Year Open Thread

It does seem a bit weird to be in 2019. Even weirder will be next year when we enter the 20’s. Of course, less weird for the young.

I had never heard of Hasan Minhaj until just today – and I heard about him because Netflix removed an episode of his show. That isn’t important. What is important is why they removed it: because Saudi Arabia requested they do so. It appears that Minhaj has been critical of the Saudi government and that government has the power, it would seem, to reach into an American corporate boardroom and make demands.

I’ve been saying for some years now that Big Corporation is the mere flip side of Big Government. They work hand in glove. They will not attack each other. They will defend each other. One side of the Coin merely pointed out to the other than there was this guy out there attacking the Coin. We need to really make some big changes – revolutionary changes. If we don’t, we’ll soon find that the only things we’re allowed to hear are things pre-approved by the corporate and government bureaucracies.

Kanye West opens 2019 by re-affirming his support for Trump. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. I know some black people who want Kanye’s black card revoked…but I’m betting that they feel far more comfortable saying that than any black person would voicing support.

We had our usual New Year’s Eve dinner with friends and during the conversation, it came out that we are all getting to be rather vigorous supporters of Trump. He’s the only guy not lying and he’s the only one looking out for us. 2020 could get very interesting.

Rod Dreher has some interesting comments about the Spanish Civil War. If we do have a Second Civil War here, it will be, in my view, far more like the Spanish Civil War than our first Civil War. Far more bloody; far more cruel; far more deeply changing to the national mind. As Dreher points out, the normal narrative you get about the Spanish Civil War is Good Republicans vs Bad Fascists…but it wasn’t like that, at all. There was some good – and a lot of bad – on both sides. Personally, you magically turn me into a 1936 Spaniard, and I’d likely be Carlist. I recommend the article, and that you read this book.

What I keep coming back to in my mind is that most people only fight for what they believe in.

While some of the American Left may actually have some deep-seated beliefs in their political model, I think the commitment of most is extremely superficial, and with little or no political content and lots of free-form angst they don’t understand but are willing to direct toward the Invented Other the Left has created for them.

That may be enough to go online and howl the F-bomb, it may be enough to throw some rocks, but I don’t see it as a commitment deep enough to get shot at, much less risk losing a nice house and that new Samsung TV.

Look at the Left that is winning elections. It consists of school teachers and doctors and “journalists”, not rough-and-tough fighting types. The Lefties I know are perfectly willing to slander the Right, to call names and inform me that all Republicans care about is money and are racist, but they would pee down their legs and squeal like little girls if violence were to pop up.

The rioters are mostly young punks who only riot after being egged on by paid rabble rousers who start the rock throwing and then boogie on out of there. They are in it for the cheap thrills, not for a philosophy. There was a video last week of a riot where a rioter picked up a stun grenade to throw it back and it exploded in his hand, basically ripping the hand off. The sight of that bloody stump and the sound of him screaming freaked out those who saw it. Blood? No one said there would be BLOOD! Drop a couple with head shots and see how long the rest hang around.

I think the only real violence would come from street gangs and a few imported mercenaries. Who’s going to lead the Loony Left into battle? Alyssa Milano? Joy Behar? Anderson Cooper? These are people who freaked out when Chris Pine talked about eating lambs he raised on his farm, and organizing them into a fighting force would make herding cats look like a normal day on a military base by comparison.

But basically, what it comes down to is that they are not FOR anything. They are AGAINST. Against whatever has been waved in front of them and identified as bad. What they believe in is superficial—-gender pronouns and men peeing in front of little girls and calling Trump names.

Oh, I see another civil war on the horizon, but I don’t see it as an armed conflict, at least not until and unless Americans get fed up with their Leftist tyrants after a couple of decades and want to take back the government with guns. I see it as a bloodless coup, won by propaganda and undermining the fabrics of our society.

I tend to agree with Amazona, at least as far as the big picture is concerned. As I’ve note before, it all comes down to patience. The left has historically been extremely patient, and if they can continue for another generation or two, I see them winning without firing a shot. If the old guard gets steamrolled by Millennials and younger Gen-xer’s, then things could turn ugly — fast. I would actually prefer the latter scenario, because, to paraphrase Gen. George Patton, we would slaughter Leftists by the bushel-fu*king basket full. Short of taking back the education system and the media, it’s the only way we’re ever going to get rid of them.

I agree, Spook, and that’s something I don’t want to see happen. So, it seems to me, that it would be counter-productive on the part of those who enjoy their freedoms to hand the Left the time they need to take over the country using the electoral process. And, that is exactly what they are planning on doing. Their desire is to elect a government that will put to death anyone who disagrees with them. I mean these college students look up to Stalin as their “hero,” and Robert E. Lee as a “murderer.” I don’t think many people realize how dangerous the college educated are to this country. I can only hope freedom loving people care enough about their children and grandchildren to take action before the time has ran out.

Thank God Mitt Romney is back to lecture us hayseeds in fly over country:

‘He has not risen to the mantle of the office’: Mitt Romney attacks Trump’s character, questions his ‘honesty and integrity’ and accuses him of damaging America’s reputation abroad in blistering op-ed

“Rising to the mantle” means caving in to establishment powers just as Mitt, John McCain, George Bush, Bob Dole, etc. have done for decades. Trump is the ONLY politician looking out for Americas best interest.

I, for one, am getting sick of this “Trump is immoral” drivel.

Democrats enacted sanctuary laws which were responsible for the murder of Officer Ronil Singh. A legal immigrant police officer – and husband and father – who was murdered by an illegal who came to the attention of law enforcement at least twice before he committed murder. Who is really the immoral person here? The guy who might have had a fling with a Playmate, or the guy who pushed for a method whereby some people are allowed to be scofflaws?

Romney is de-facto helping the Democrats in their quest for victory in 2020 and if that works out, we’ll have a President who will be at war with everything Romney says he’s for…which, of course, leads one to believe that Romney doesn’t really believe what he says he believes. That what he says is what he thinks we want him to say. So, who is immoral? The guy who will knife his own side, or the guy who stands up for his side?

We’re all sinners, of course – but people attacking Trump have, in my view, one really big thing in common: hideously bad things they’ve done which harm others. Trump slept around…and, as far as that goes, I think that Melania is keeping him on the ranch of late (you just know if there was a hint of a Trump affair in the last few years, the MSM would be all over it). Perhaps because I’m Catholic – and thus not remotely Puritan in outlook – I’m just more relaxed about sexual indiscretions. The historian Will Durant noted how Catholics have a certain Latin jollility about sex. Sure, its a sin and you’d better get yourself to Confession if you’ve stepped outside the marital bond…but far, far worse in my view is someone who lies, or someone who steals (especially from those who have less), or someone who hates.

So a couple thoughts on the linked article:

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/dying-harry-reid-on-trump-hes-amoral-has-no-conscience

First of all, I am really happy to hear that Harry is dying. I honestly can’t think of anyone more sub human than Harry Reid.

Secondly, I find his “amoral” comment extremely disturbing considering Harry stood on the Senate floor and completely made up a vicious lie against a presidential candidate all in an effort to sabotage his campaign. And yet, he stands in judgement of Trump.

Do us all a favor Harry and hurry up and die. No one will miss you.

Not to be a real downer this morning but I have zero hope for this country. Zero. The problem we face is bone deep stupidity as the majority of Americans have the intellectual heft of a tree squirrel and the millennial generation actually seem proud of that fact. Just take a minute someday and look around at the people you share this country with … I am honestly surprised that most of them know how to tie their shoes in the morning. And these people vote, which explains the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party would not exist without mind numbingly stupid people and they know that, hence their control of education.

Democrats have destroyed everything they touch – healthcare, social security, medicare, Chicago, San Francisco, the State of California, etc., etc., etc., …. there is nothing constructive that comes from that party, yet Americans still vote for them. People like Fielding and Casper perpetuate the stupidity by putting people like Nancy Pelosi back in charge. Botox has effectively erased any intelligence Nancy may have had, but she is the perfect spokesperson for the Fieldings and the Caspers of the world. She makes zero sense when she speaks yet is convinced that she knows everything.

The overall quality of our elected representatives is abysmal, the objectivity of our media is non existent, and the political discourse in this country lacks substance. The majority of Americans have become over emotional, feminized victims … aka the perfect Democrat coalition.

    • Cluster January 3, 2019 / 9:11 am

And the mind numbingly stupid progressive media never fails their mind numbingly stupid viewers …

On Wednesday’s MSNBC Live with Stephanie Ruhle, liberal SiriusXM talk radio host and frequent MSNBC guest Mark Thompson declared that baby Jesus, as an immigrant, would have been separated from his parents and might have died in detention if he had lived under President Donald Trump’s rule.

This is the current level of political discourse amongst progressives. It’s the equivalent of a conversation between two hyper sensitive 12 year old girls. Of course, just take a look at Stephanie and you’ll realize that there’s not a lot of substance there either.

    • M. Noonan January 3, 2019 / 2:29 pm

I’m not so sure they are voting for Democrats. San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago – all One Party States. No election result will ever happen there which was not pre-determined by the power brokers behind the scenes. It is likely that the upper classes vote – but will the poor vote? Two types of poor: working and welfare. The working poor have to get to work, the welfare poor have to get off their ass. How many would take time out of their day to participate in a pointless exercise? We saw what happened in CA and what almost happened in FL…Democrats just willy-nilly producing votes out of thin air to get the result desires. Do we think this rare, or usual? My bet: usual.

Ending this travesty of democracy is something that has to be done – but we lack sufficient power, at the moment, to do it. Trump can do a lot – and I hope he does – but as most election law is State law, until we control the States in question, we’ll lack the real ability to go after it.

To counter-balance the fraud of the Blue, we simply must do more in the Red – roll up not just victory, but overwhelming victory. And in the States where our power is total, we have to simply get rid of the officials and judges who allow Democrat voter fraud to proceed. We can do nothing about Los Angeles – but we have total power in Texas and so we can take a long, hard look at how voting is done in Austin and find out, for certain, if they are voting for Democrats, or if Democrats are just manufacturing the votes they need.

Casper …. here’s your mind numbingly stupid fellow Democrat Ocasio-Cortex:

“The select committee shall have authority to develop a detailed national, industrial, economic mobilization plan for the transition of the United States economy to become greenhouse gas emissions neutral and to significantly draw down greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and oceans and to promote economic and environmental justice and equality.”

It is really rather disappointing – I had some hope that she would be a disrupter on the left. You know: at least take on the powerful special interests who get all the money. But, no: she’s just another hack liberal out there to ensure the special interests get even more money.

  6. casper3031 January 3, 2019 / 3:35 pm

Amazing how much Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a first year congressperson with very little power in congress scares conservatives.

    • Cluster January 3, 2019 / 3:46 pm

      hahahahahahahahahhaha

See that’s the stupidity I speak of Casper. Thank you for chiming in

    • Cluster January 3, 2019 / 3:48 pm

Hey Casper, teach your students that Jesus wouldn’t have survived under a Trump administration. It may be the best lessen plan you’ve ever delivered.

    • M. Noonan January 3, 2019 / 5:22 pm

She’d scare us a bit if she was actually going to lead a labor fight. She’s not: she’s just proposing a zillion dollar boondoggle to fill the pockets of the super rich. She’s a tool, nothing more.

  7. casper3031 January 3, 2019 / 3:52 pm

    You are welcome.
