The Wall Open Thread

Rumor has it that Trump may yet declare a national emergency to ensure the wall gets built. This is, naturally, getting our Never Trump Fredocons in an uproar. Their basic line is that if Trump does this, then the Democrats will turn around and declare a national emergency in the future to impose things like socialized medicine. Of course they will. But they’ll do that regardless of what we do. The Democrats hate law and custom – all they seek is the swiftest means available to impose their views. If we refuse to use our power just as ruthlessly as they do, all they do is laugh at us for being such fools.

We are backs-to-the-wall, folks. Constitutional norms went out the window a very long time ago. Right around the time the Supreme Court found a “right” to an abortion in a document which doesn’t even mention a subject remotely related to a medical procedure. Sure, I’d like it very much if the Constitution and our laws and customs were adhered to by all – but, they’re not. And as the law, as written, appears to give the President the power to declare such an emergency, Trump should go right on and do it, if that is what proves necessary.

And that’s another thing that is burning me up, lately: Trump is doing everything he can to keep to his proper, Constitutional powers. He very much wants to keep everything neat as a pin in law. And he’d get that – if everyone on our side would just get on board and provide a completely united front, rather than writing articles which give Democrats hope we’ll cave, then the Democrats would collapse. They are already a bit messed up because the normal script – immediate GOP surrender – isn’t happening here. They are nothing and nobodies – all we have to do is treat them as such, and so it will be.

Judicial rumor mill is that RBG will quit, soon. We’ll see. But she will have to soon voluntarily leave the Court, or she’ll have to leave it perforce. She’s rather old, you know?

So, they say that space travel won’t turn germs into super bugs. But that is just what They would want you to believe, right?

Bit of a legal note: being found not guilty in court does not work out to being declared innocent. I’ll add a note of my own: we’re finding out, all too often, that just because a person plead guilty to something in court, it doesn’t mean he did anything wrong.

NBC is saying that you can cut through Trump’s proposed border wall with common tools. There is an argument over whether the tools used were all that common. But, to me, that is all irrelevant. Of course a human being, given time and tools, will be able to get through any barrier. We’re rather clever – been so since we first banged those rocks together, ya dig? But the purpose of a wall is not to be an impervious barrier, but to be a barrier which takes a lot of time and effort to get past…thus giving those guarding the barrier a better chance to stop you.

First of all, a wall is not a “do not enter” barrier. It’s a “please use the door” reminder.

Secondly, Democrats are afraid to death that Trump will declare the emergency, secure the funds to build the wall, and reopen government without them and I pray he does. Trump is once again exposing Democrats as actively working against the best interests of the citizens of this country. The liberal media is doing their best this morning to sow division amongst conservative ranks by declaring that “Trump is NOT a conservative”. I would tend to agree with that considering Trump has spent most of his life as NY Democrat, however ironically, Trump has moved the conservative agenda further forward than any recent GOP President including Reagan, so the incoherent outbursts of “establishment republicans” like Joe Scarborough just don’t resonate with those of us in fly over country. The subsequent media and Democrat melt down will be fun to watch.

If the Right could find a voice, for a change, it could challenge that silly “Trump is not a conservative” whine by pointing out that laying claim to the name without backing it up with a solid, coherent political philosophy is just plain stupid, while following a solid, coherent political philosophy of governing according to the Constitution is actually what DEFINES true conservatism.

Look at the “conservatives in name only” crowd, smugly pointing at the big C on their lapels but working hand in glove with the American Left, which is in turn working hand in glove with Russia in its efforts to unseat an elected president, erode our electoral process, fracture our society in various ways, create divisiveness and even virulent hatred and in generate as much chaos and conflict as possible. These are the people pointing fingers at Trump and claiming HE is “not a conservative”.

The key to this statement is the simple word “A” . It is an admission that they are talking about Identity Politics, not actual political philosophy. Trump is not, by their standards, “A” conservative—-he is simply conservative, and they are both baffled by the difference and dismayed by what it means.

I define conservatism more by effect and actions than words.

      • Amazona January 12, 2019 / 12:09 pm

I define conservatism more by effect and actions than words.

That sounds fine, but what does it mean? If you are commenting on the fact that so many “conservatives” mouth conservative principles but don’t act on them, I agree.

But every action has to begin with words to explain it and define it and form it into a potential action, and what I see is a lack of understanding of the words/concepts that form the foundation of true conservatism.

I find a lot of values grafted onto the political philosophy that, while probably shared by most who subscribe to the political philosophy don’t actually define it. Yes, conservatives tend to be religious and against abortion, but it is possible to be politically conservative without sharing those values and demanding allegiance to personal values in addition to political theories only serves to drive a lot of people away from the political home of belief in governing according to the Constitution. That translates into driving away votes.

Ditto for issues. Fight for governance according to the Constitution and most of these beloved issues will take care of themselves at the state or local level, where they belong.

We have to start clarifying our goals and objectives, and to do that we need words. We need clear, concise and coherent explanations and definitions. Then we can look at how well actions and effects comply with the stated objectives. Now we are so blurry and confused about what we really want, we can’t hope to achieve anything.

Cruz is brilliant at explaining and defining but he has been denied a national voice by those who fear his ability to communicate, and I think Trump has a grasp of the essentials but lacks the coherence to convey that understanding very effectively.

At this point, Trump’s only real option is to declare a national emergency. Every day he is losing more Republican congress critters. More and more voters are blaming him and the Republicans for the Trump shutdown as stories of workers going without paychecks hit both local and national news. He will declare an emergency which will ogive the new Democrat president in two years, the option of doing the same on climate change or gun violence. Yes, it’s going to be fun to watch.

    • Cluster January 11, 2019 / 11:04 am

Odd isn’t that what so many Democrats fully supported just a few short years ago is now immoral? Odd isn’t it that Democrats would give $150 billion cash to a regime that executes homosexuals, yet oppose $5 billion to protect the lives of minorities in this country? Odd isn’t it that more than a dozen countries around the world are in the process of building walls, many of them with our financial assistance approved by Democrats, but building a wall here is considered immoral and xenophobic?

Unfortunately in this country we have too many morally confused, dishonest, and just downright dumbass people like you Casper but maybe you could tell us why Democrats are such liars, and why the media covers for them. Why do you think that is Casper? And there is an answer to that, just FYI.

I actually agree with you for a change that it would be fun to watch, but probably not in the way you think. I guess a Democrat-controlled Congress and President could waste a lot of money (Democrats are skilled at wasting money on meaningless crap) pursuing meaningless policies and regulations on gun control and climate change, but the response from most of the country would be “pfffffft.” Gun owners would simply sit back and say, “come and take them,” and getting anyone beyond a few kooks like you to accept climate change as an emergency would indeed be fun to watch. Any policies on either front would require a massive display of force on the part of the Federal Government to implement. Is that what you want?

Consider what’s currently happening in France re: higher taxes for climate change and then imagine what would happen here ….

Spook, we do have the example of eight years under a radically Leftist Dem president to hint at what another term of this kind of self-destructive nonsense would bring.

We had one-sixth of our economy taken over and severely damaged by the effort to socialize our health care into a one size fits all single payer scheme, creating havoc and skyrocketing insurance costs for polices that provided less protection. We had a top-down effort to exacerbate any racial tensions that were still in the country, working in tandem with outside racist groups to create racial divisions, distrust and hatred that have never existed in this country before. (We used to have the kind of casual racism that considered skin color to be indicative of characteristics such as honesty and a work ethic and intelligence, but not the kind of focused hate-driven racism of the early 21st Century that said people of different skin colors could be and even should be hunted down and killed, as we saw in the New Black Panthers offer to pay someone to kill George Zimmerman or the Black Lives Matter movement calling for the murder of law enforcement people.)

We had a tanked economy, partly due to the uncertainty of possible tax hikes, always a chilling factor in economic development. We saw a sharp increase in the number of people not even trying to find work, we saw a dramatic escalation in welfare programs like food stamps (a program that advertised for people to sign up) and we saw communities overwhelmed by the demands of caring for illegal aliens welcomed into this country, encouraged to come into this country illegally by the bird feeder approach to illegal immigration promoted by the Left.

We saw our nation cowering in front of other nations, apologizing just for BEING and bowing in homage to tyrants while treating allies with disrespect. We saw Americans murdered by the people we had just armed, and the rise of Islamic radicalism around the world, making every country unsafe.

And the list goes on. We have seen the future of America under Leftist governance, because we have a recent example to look at.

And we have mindless hate-driven sheeple like Casper and Fielding eager to drag us back to it.

      • Cluster January 11, 2019 / 12:35 pm

Imagine the progressive melt down if Trump said “I have a phone and a pen” in an effort to bypass Congress. Obama actually did say that, and actually did go around Congress numerous times and there was not one word of opposition from Casper, Fielding, or the progressive media. So once again, we are confronted with rank progressive hypocrisy. It’s becoming commonplace.

  3. JeremiahTMM January 11, 2019 / 4:26 pm

President Trump is a great President. He may go down in the history books as the greatest President we’ve ever had. At least, I think so. What’s great about him, is he’s very passionate, and has the courage to stand up to the establishment, and to the Democrats. He’s not afraid of the Democrats. And on these issues like border security and on Jerusalem he’s delivering where all past Presidents have failed miserably.

President is trying to help help Americans, and if they can’t see that in 2020, and they wanna go ahead and vote for a communist, then I say they deserve every bit of suffering that comes their way.

  4. Frank Lee (@trumpcowboy) January 11, 2019 / 10:32 pm

The art of the deal. Everyone wants instant responses to conflicts. I would love for Trump to just declare an emergency and build it, but maybe that’s not what’s best.

The winner in a negotiation is almost always the person who drags the deal out for as long as possible. So far, I’m not seeing the Democrats winning this. Their arguments against the wall are so full of holes, the longer the discussion goes on, the worse they look.

Their arguments against Trump declaring an emergency are just as bad. As well as the arguments by Never-Trumpers telling him he shouldn’t.

Meanwhile, the Democrats deep dive into tying Trump us with investigations is slowed down. There’s no oxygen for it. And each day the next election gets closer.

Behind the scenes, there has to be tons of graft and back scratching cash being held up by the lack of a new budget for those departments. There are probably some very powerful lobbyists who are upset they aren’t getting the money for a bridge to nowhere. And the longer it drags on, the more it highlights all the other money being wasted elsewhere. And makes it more difficult for Democrats to plug in tons of pork barrel projects in their next budget offers.

I don’t know. Maybe Trump is right to drag this on as long as he can. I can’t imagine Nancy wants her legacy as Speaker to be the longest government shutdown in history. If there is still a stalemate a year from now when Trump begins to run for reelection, who wins? I think Trump.

    • Amazona January 12, 2019 / 12:57 pm

It’s too bad we don’t have a national voice pointing out that the real reason the “investigation” is dragging out so long is that it is the only thing standing between the criminal abusers of power in the FBI and federal indictments for, among other things, perjury and fraud upon the court.

I suggest that the real reason for the focus on “obstruction of justice” is to set the stage for making this complaint if any of the co-conspirators were to be indicted and charged for their crimes. And if that were to happen, Mueller would be one of those indicted and charged as he was in the middle of the whole corrupt abuse of power scheme and attempted coverup. The moment any charges are filed, the howls of outrage and OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE would be deafening.

(The current fuss about obstruction of justice is just window dressing, to get the concept in the front of what passes for the consciousness of most of the American public. You can’t “obstruct justice” in the absence of an actual investigation into an actual crime, and when Comey was fired Trump had been assured there was no investigation, and even then what is laughingly called an “investigation” was never really about anything that was actually a crime in the first place.)

So the real purpose of the “investigation” is to provide cover for the criminals, the “investigator” included. Trump got suckered into putting a fox in charge of the henhouse, and now he has to wait it all out. And the taxpayers get to pay the bills. Again.

  5. Cluster January 12, 2019 / 9:11 am

So this needs to be mentioned. I am watching MSNBC (I know, I know) but this is comedy gold. The panelists have their panties wadded up over the NYT headline that claims the FBI thought Trump was working for Russia following the Comey firing. Mind you there is ZERO evidence of anything, but just the caption alone has them talking about it for over 30 mins. and being “outraged”

Progressives are children with serious emotional issues.

    • Amazona January 12, 2019 / 12:45 pm

If you want to see who is “working for Russia” all you have to do is look at the Left and the so-called conservative NeverTrumpers. There have been many articles, all ignored by the Complicit Agenda Media, about the true role Russia has been playing, and/or trying to play, in American politics and society, and all their efforts come down to the same goals—-destabilizing our society and fomenting internal conflicts leading to chaos and confusion.

Trump merely saw himself and his ideas and his skill sets as being useful to bring this nation back to a better semblance of Constitutional governance, and solving some of our problems. I don’t think for a moment he ever entertained any agenda of fracturing American society, splitting it into demographics and then turning them against each other. I don’t believe he ever had the goal of destabilizing our society, eroding our electoral process or undermining our Constitution.

These have been the goals of Russia, and by extension the International Left, and they have been aided and abetted, day in and day out, by the American Left and by so-called “conservatives” like Bill Kristol and even Mitt Romney. If Russia cared who won the election—and this is a big “IF”—–they would have preferred a Republican president because when a Dem is elected, even a truly horrible Dem with malignant motives and agendas, the Right just sucks it up and accepts it. But if a REPUBLICAN is elected, it is easy to stir up the Left into riots, hysteria, overt efforts to overturn an election and take over the presidency by coup, demands to undermine our electoral system by getting rid of the Electoral College ( which would give control over elections to, basically, to the Leftist bastions of Los Angeles and NYC) and in general meet the desired Leftist goals of chaos, conflict and destabilization of our society.

There is NOTHING about the firing of Comey that would benefit Russia, except by extension in providing more fodder for the machine working overtime to generate internal conflicts, suspicions, resentment and paranoia, while trying to undermine the authority not just of Donald J. Trump but of the American presidency itself. And the only people working for Russia are those who have eagerly volunteered to help bring this about.

  6. Cluster January 13, 2019 / 10:39 am

Well the progressive media has finally figured us out:

MSNBC”s Chris Hayes – “the wall originated as a device to jog the President’s memory, to make sure to remind him to cater to the most xenophobic part of the base of the Republican Party because there is a cluster of people in the Republican Party who catapulted Trump to his win in the primaries who hate and/or fear immigrants and not only that, these are people who define their political life by stopping and stopping the invasion of people who do not look like them.”

I think the Russians look like us right? Truth be known, I would rather stop the invasion of the mindless millennial progressives who actually do look like me. They’re the real threat.

    This just goes without comment:

Some 30 Democratic lawmakers left the government shutdown behind Friday on a chartered flight to Puerto Rico for a winter retreat with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives during which they planned to see the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” and attend three parties including one with the show’s cast.

    • casper3031 January 13, 2019 / 1:04 pm

Democrats have already passed the bills it would take to end the shutdown. The only two people who could end this at this point are Trump and McConnell. Where is McConnell?

      • Cluster January 13, 2019 / 1:58 pm

Well they didn’t pass anything that the Senate would pass or that the elected President would sign, so they haven’t done their job yet …. can you connect the dots on that one Cap? ….. and doesn’t it concern you a little that there are 3 lobbyists and corporate execs per each Democrat lawmaker? I look forward to your spin on that one.

      • casper3031 January 13, 2019 / 2:47 pm

The senate already passed these bills. And with enough votes to pass a presidential veto. Why won’t they vote on them again? maybe because McConnell knows they would pass.

      • Cluster January 13, 2019 / 2:57 pm

You are so right Casper. I mean why won’t Democrats vote for the same bill they passed in 2006? Back when they were for border security. Why do you think that is dumbass? Or I mean Casper.

Secure Fence Act of 2006 – Directs the Secretary of Homeland Security, within 18 months of enactment of this Act, to take appropriate actions to achieve operational control over U.S. international land and maritime borders, including: (1) systematic border surveillance through more effective use of personnel and technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles, ground-based sensors, satellites, radar coverage, and cameras; and (2) physical infrastructure enhancements to prevent unlawful border entry and facilitate border access by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, such as additional checkpoints, all weather access roads, and vehicle barriers…..Amends the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to direct the Secretary to provide at least two layers of reinforced fencing, installation of additional physical barriers, roads, lighting, cameras, and sensors

Just FYI ….Democrats have already supported and voted for something they now oppose. Can you connect the dots on that one little Casper?

    • Cluster January 13, 2019 / 2:01 pm

Well that’s because most Americans are just like you Casper – dumber than a bag of hammers.

    • Cluster January 13, 2019 / 2:06 pm

And Casper, not to tell you who progressives should be concerned for, but I don’t think well paid government employees really check the “victim” box, do you? How about the minority family in CA whose Father and Husband was just killed by an illegal immigrant? Do you care? Or how about the kids in inner cities who now have to compete with illegals for jobs that have increasingly lower wages because the low skilled market is flooded? Does that concern you at all? Or are you more concerned for the Fed. Parks Ranger and his $150,000 salary?

Let us know when can Cap.

  8. Cluster January 13, 2019 / 3:36 pm

Let’s just all take a minute and consider the positions Democrats and Casper have staked out.

    – They favor well paid Federal Employees futures over the futures of inner city kids who are primarily hispanic and black kids. They concern themselves more with the lack of pay for these government employees than they concern themselves with the lack of opportunities for minority children.

    – They favor supporting regimes (Iran) that execute homosexuals and oppress women over their own countries need to address an opiod epidemic, which is negatively impacting the lower class and homeless in America.

    That hardly seems “progressive”

  9. casper3031 January 13, 2019 / 4:10 pm

I know that it’s easy to make up my positions and then attack them. It doesn’t require much thinking. I support the hundreds of thousands of my fellow Americans, liberal and conservative, who are being affected by the Trump Shutdown, You don’t.

    • Cluster January 13, 2019 / 5:57 pm

You support well paid federal employees and Democrat politics OVER the many Americans who have lost ones to illegal immigration, to low skilled inner city kids trying to get jobs, and to many Americans struggling with drug addiction and homelessness.

That’s who you are Casper. Own it.

    • Amazona January 15, 2019 / 11:07 am

Evidently when Casper graduated (at the bottom of his class) from Bob’s School of Refrigeration and Teaching, they didn’t explain irony.

Here he whines “…it’s easy to make up my positions and then attack them..” and then he makes up your position and attacks it.

But he inadvertently exposes his position, which is to “support” whatever demographic or shiny new thing his minders tell him to “care” about, while being blissfully oblivious to the much bigger picture.

Federal employees will be paid, as soon as the Dem leadership decides it is experiencing diminishing returns in its silly game playing. We know, they know, everyone knows that nearly all Americans support the idea of a strong impermeable barrier at the border. There is some effort to squabble about the terminology—wall vs fence, for example—-and then they will try another stalling tactic along the lines of “that fence is so solid looking it is really a wall” and they will dig in and do whatever they can to deny Trump a victory in this.

And make no mistake about it, that is what this is all about. And the Left will gladly endanger more American lives by stalling as long as they can, hoping to erode support for the demand for money to fund a border barrier. After all, they have the mindless, like Casper, swallowing and regurgitating their stupid narratives. Fortunately, too many people, including some Dems and a whole lot of Independents, are a lot smarter than Casper and his fellow sheeple.

  10. casper3031 January 13, 2019 / 6:13 pm

Does this mean you are against your fellow

Does this mean you are against your fellow

Ahh, a variation on the Left’s beloved tactic of “So, what you are really saying is…”

Of course, the poor sap is oblivious to the fact that we know only some of those not being paid were actually doing their jobs in the first place. The Republican-led Congress really screwed up when it lost its chance to legislate easier firing of government employees.
