Cain still on a roll, but I do think we are seeing Newt on the rise.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary voters shows Cain with 26% of the vote over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s 23%. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich draws 14% support, with no other GOP contender reaching double-digits. Thirteen percent (13%) of GOP voters are undecided at this time. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
With Perry picking up only 8 percent in the poll, could it be he’s near through?
It is really too bad that Ron Paul is so batshit insane on foriegn policy. The same with his apparent anti-semitism. I say apparent because I have not reseached it very well so correct me if needed.
Ron Pauls domestic policies are what is needed in this country. He would defund everything at the federal level. No money no power. Lots and lots of burocrats out of work, talk about happy dreams.
His foriegn policy though is a killer. Which I agree with to a point. Isreal does need to be let loose. Without constant calls for mama united nations to save the arab butts, the middle east would look very different today.
I agree, GMB. Paul has some excellent ideas and I think a Libertarian/Conservative direction is where we need to go. Your elegant description of his foreign policy is spot on, though.
My Lib friends keep whining about the “corruption” of politics, lobbying, etc. and my response is just what you said, though in reverse—–get the power out of DC and the money will stop flowing. Force the power brokers to go state by state, where we can keep a closer eye on them and have more control.
“Elegant” discription. LOL. You are too kind. I just don’t have the right words in english to discribe Paul’s foriegn policy. So, I went with what I know. Crude but effective, yes?
Is there a vp candidate that could be paired with Paul to get a sensible foriegn policy. My opinion would be no. VP’s have very little effect unless the POTUS allows this. Thatnk the Lord that Dubya had the sense to let Cheney run the areas that he did. I don’t see Paul letting his VP do this.
Maybe someone can smush Paul, Newt, Perry, and Bachman into a single person we could all get behind.
Eeeeuuuwww…..now I need eye bleach to get rid of the image of “smushing” Newt, Paul, Perry and Bachmann into a single entity.
But I know what you mean. I find something to like in nearly every candidate, and something I’d like to change.
We must have very different definitions of smushing. Is that what you kids are calling it these days? 😛
Newt is going to take the lead once the Cain Train runs off the cliff in the next couple of days. Who would have thunk it?
Allahdipwad over at Hot Air is still pushing the Rumor that Sarah P will get into the race. November 13 is the date stated she must declare by to have the chance to get enough delagates to get the nomination.
Do it Sarah!!
I think Newt would be a great pick to run against Obama, especially, if he’s paired with Cain. Cain has said he would take a VP role.
I could support a Gingrich/Cain ticket. I encourage everyone to really listen to Newt at next Wednesday’s debate. I think you’ll find that his common sense ideas and his mature approach are what is needed. I think the large majority of voters have grown tired of the elementary personal attacks that so many politicians, including Obama, engage in.
I’ve been one of Newt’s biggest conservative detractors here, but even I have to admit that he’s running a brilliant campaign. He and Cain are really the only two who are staying above the fray and talking about ideas. I would still have to hold my nose to vote for him but not as tight as I did for McCain. A Gingrich/Cain ticket does sound better than any other combination of current candidates. And a Gingrich/Obama debate would be fun to watch.
I am hoping for a Gingrich nomination and I would pay to watch Newt debate Barry!
Newt does seem to be building more support from the GOP base. How will he handle scrutiny from the lame stream media if he pulls ahead of the pack? I tired of GOP’ers that duck and run. Tired of GOP’ers that want to be loved by the progressives.
If he told that maddow person to shove it on live tv? He might just get my vote. I could forgive him for sitting down with pelosi and getting on agw band wagon but never forget it.
There may have been a time when a political novice could handle the presidency, if he had business experience, intelligence and common sense. Given the complexity of the world today, and particularly the nature of our bloated national government, I think deep knowledge and experience regarding Washington politics is a must.
We tried electing an ideologue with an abstract academic idea of how he thought he should “fundamentally change” the nation and under his leadership we have gotten farther and farther away from the Constitutional principles that made this country great and deeper and deeper into the inevitable failures that mark his ideology. We need to do something dramatic and bold to change our course, to get back on course.
While someone who is Conservative Lite would still be an improvement, I have come to think that we can’t afford half measures. We let the inexperienced and politically naive experiment with Leftism, even though we knew in advance where it would lead. We weren’t happy about it because we, as students of history, knew how it would turn out, but we were outvoted so all we could do was stand by and watch the inevitable unfold. Fine. They got their day, they got their power and authority, and they have made a serious mess of it. Now is not the time to bring in someone whose business acumen may be significant but who lacks true commitment to bringing the nation back to a Constitutional rule of law and government. And clarity of commitment should be accompanied by the ability to explain this commitment and its foundation.
I don’t see Cain as the best VP. I would like to see John Bolton in the office, putting his vast knowledge and experience in foreign affairs to work again for the nation. He is not only brilliant in this area, he would be a very strong and public statement to the rest of the world that we are now very serious about how we run our nation and interact with others. I think a Gingrich-Bolton ticket would be a kick-ass combination of deep and serious experience and skill, both international and domestic.
Bolton is an interesting choice, and I don’t completely disagree. I do think he did a tremendous job at the UN, but I would rather have someone on the ticket that represents the future of the GOP, and not sure Cain is even that choice. Rubio would be a slam dunk, Ryan would be good choice, and Christie may be another option,
Here is where I think someone like Bolton could be appointed to the Sec. of State position and put his experience and knowledge to use dealing face-to-face with these foreign entities/enemies. Same with putting Ron Paul in charge of the Fed. in order to dismantle it. Even though we get to only vote for the top ticket (P/VPotUS)–who they appoint is also critical.
One other note is governorships because we need 35 for a Constitution convention and/or the possibility of repealing amendments starting with the 17th which will return Senators to the needs of their respective States rather than their donors & then the 16th in order to get a flat / fair tax plan enacted in it’s entirety.
Depending on the power sharing arrangement–I could go for a Cain/Gingrich ticket in either order but think I would prefer Cain as PotUS for dealing with the high level meetings and no BS approach freeing up Gingrich as the axe-man behind the scenes.
Cain Gingrich is a strong ticket I would vote for.
Herman Cain: “I am the Koch brothers’ brother from another mother. And proud of it!”
Talk about giving a fool enough rope.
Speaking from experience?
Is there something wrong with the Koch brothers? Are they socialists like Obama? I don’t know much about them, but from you it sounds like maybe they are subversive types like George Soros or something.
They are high up on the list of special interests that people talk about when they complain about our politicians being bought and paid for. Most politicians at least publicly distance themselves from direct ideological discussions or comparisons with their campaign funders.
If Herman Cain was a democrat would that comment about the rope be racist?
Koch Brothers. Conservative libertarians. Bad
Spooky Soros. Socialist Authoritarian. Good
All is explained now.
No, George Soros bad, too. I’d prefer my politicians to be beholden to their electorate rather than a few guys with big wallets.
Cory, are you actually supporting a reduction of federal power and returning power to state and local governments, or, as we Conservatives like to call it, a Constitutional government?
Good for you, lad. I didn’t think you had it in you.
