Religious Freedom and the 2012 Election

Did Obama just hand the Republican Party an issue to galvanize conservatives in 2012 to boot him out of office?

The top Republican in the Congress on Wednesday denounced President Barack Obama’s new rule on contraceptives as an assault on “religious freedom” and vowed to overturn it, as the White House sought to prevent the issue from becoming an election-year liability.

Fanning a political firestorm, House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner joined an outcry from religious leaders and social conservatives over a requirement that health insurance plans, including those at Catholic hospitals, charities and universities, offer birth control to women.

Seeking to ease a controversy that has roiled the 2012 presidential race, White House spokesman Jay Carney appeared to leave the door open to compromise. He said Obama was sensitive to religious beliefs on contraception and hoped to find a way to implement the rule that can “allay some of the concerns.”

But Obama, at a meeting with Senate Democrats, reaffirmed his decision and was “not equivocating,” Senator Frank Lautenberg, who attended the closed-door session, told Reuters.

Between things like this and the economy, things continue to look bad for Obama this year.

Gee, now that the 9th Circus Court of Banana-peels has declared that homer-sexual marriage is the Law of the Land in California (Land of Fruits and Nuts) I guess Jerry Brown will dictate that Roman Catholic Priests must perform them in Church ceremonies.

So what if the Priests believe performing the sacrament in violation of Church doctrine is a mortal sin.

        Hey, Padre, it’s the Law!

Administer the Eucharist to someone the Priest knows is lying? That’s your problem Father Bob. You can’t discriminate!

Women in the Priesthood? That’s right Fra. Pierre sex discrimination is against the Law

You Thirteenth Century misogynists need to be brought into the Progressives’ Brave New World.

If you’re going to plagiarize at least put the NYT article in quotes.

Are you suggesting that the Church should take a poll and decide doctrine based on majority rule? A sin is no longer a sin if we get enough to agree?

      Jeeze you’re stupid.

“Studies have shown that 98 percent of Catholic women have used artificial contraception at some time in their lives.”

“Public Religion Research Institute in Washington found that 52 percent of Catholic respondents agreed that even religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should have to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception.”

so what. Most religions are not a democracy. So, using your STUPID logic, if 52% of Catholics committed adultery, then it should be allowed.

I agree is Luciana, stop regurgitating the dumbed down talking points.

“Not true, says Chris Matthews, who notes that the states offer various ways for religious organizations to avoid paying for products and services that violate their conscience, which is not possible with the HHS mandate”

Um, attention Moderator; if all he’s going to do is cut and paste talking points and passing them off as if they were his ideas, shouldn’t they just be dissapeared? After all, bloody isn’t making any points, defending any positions or offering any debate.

I’m just asking because if I want to read the NYT or Mother Jones why wouldn’t I just go there? And if I quote someone I normally give the place from which the quote originated, penguincrap doesn’t do that even no one here belives him actually capible of forming these thoughts on his own.

This from someone who believes in the fantasy world of a collectivist Utopia, in spite of the uninterrupted history of failure whenever this political model has been implemented.

All you are doing is saying your disproved belief system is better than an unproved belief system. At least religious people ADMIT their position is based on faith.

He sure did, Matt. And they sure do…a good thing.

The thing here, is that Obama wants more government control…he’s using these insurance companies to carry out his dreadful agenda.

What the Liberal Democrats want here is a setup like China has of a one-child policy as more and more institutions are demanded to provide services that go against their consciences, or normal policies.
