Obama Dumps His Seal of Arrogance

Hardcore Obamaniacs may have loved it, but everyone else recognized it for what it was, the symbol of an arrogant, egotistical man who sense of entitlement rivals that of Hillary Clinton.

After days of media mockery, Barack Obama has decided to stop using a presidential-looking seal that his campaign designed and affixed to his podium on Friday.

Journalists said the seal, which features an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, smacks of arrogance. John McCain’s camp had a field day, calling the seal “laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing – all at the same time.”

The seal was conspicuously missing from Obama’s lectern when he spoke to a group of women in Albuquerque on Monday. Not surprising, given how much grief Obama took from a normally laudatory press corps after unveiling the seal at an appearance in Chicago on Friday.

“What a bizarre and dumb idea,” railed NBC political director Chuck Todd. “It really feeds the arrogance narrative.”

The oversized blue seal was emblazoned with the Latin phrase “Vero Possumus,” which roughly translates into “yes, we can.” It also featured a plug for the candidate’s website.

“The Audacity of Hype,” cracked ABC’s Jake Tapper. “No word on whether they played a remix of ‘Hail to the Chief’ as Obama walked in.”

Andrew Malcolm of the Los Angeles Times observed that Obama “has decided not to wait for any of the formalities like a presidential election, an inauguration or even a nomination, which he still hasn’t actually officially won yet.”

Marc Ambinder of the Atlantic magazine was the first to note that Obama would deep-six the seal.

“I’m told that Obama recognizes that it was a silly mistake,” Ambinder said. “Does the press think Obama is arrogant? Yes.”

So still trying the arrogant theme, I don’t think it’s working. If a seal makes you arrogant then the Repubs are just as lowly as I thought.

    Mark;
    arrogance? perhaps.
    Stupidity ? for sure.
He clearly lacks ANY judgment, from his choice of church, friends, business, race.
He has made gaffs only a complete novice would.
On the worlds scene at first, he will be swarmed and adulated, but very fast will seen as the empty suit ,lacking even the smallest clue. The islamists saw through jimmah cartah and humiliated us as a nation until Ronald R. threatened to smash them into oblivion.
Any earbama presidency will prove to be VERY dangerous to the US and Isreal.

what’s the big deal on the seal anyway?

is it a neptunian non issue???

  4. Jeremiah says:

    Possumus

LOL! Obama is playing possum alright….he’s telling the people a bunch of ‘hopeless’ rhetoric.

  5. neocon says:

    Vicodin,

What have you been calling Axlerod? Brilliant?

This “seal” debacle will fall short of that description.

Mr V you also know that Obama is half Caucasian. So why does he blatantly ignore that part of his background? Doesn’t make sense. Unless there was an agenda.

  6. First Obama loses the Presidential seal, next he loses the Presidential election.

  7. neocon says:

This is OT but can’t resist.

Remember the war? Or excuse me, the Civil War in Iraq? Well evidently the MSM does not. In fact, MSM reporting on the war has dropped over 80%, now that the American military is realizing positive growth. When the insurgents were blowing things and people up, the MSM was gleefully reporting each and every incident.

    Now………..crickets.

In fact, CBS News no longer stations a single full-time correspondent in Iraq, where some 150,000 United States troops are deployed.

    Mind blowing.
    peace, neocon

  8. BARRASSO says:

You must have a rich fantasy life to be a wingnut, “The islamists saw through jimmah cartah and humiliated us as a nation until Ronald R. threatened to smash them into oblivion.” Or conceded to their demands and knuckled under, after commit a little light treason by dealing with them when he wasn’t president.

“When the insurgents were blowing things and people up, the MSM was gleefully reporting each and every incident.
    Now………..crickets.”

Yes that is weird, the media not reporting things that aren’t happening. Wingnuts love to bitch about the media, I guess that they can’t get mommy to fix it for them so they need to pretend that the facts themselves are false. You can bitch about the media if I ever see an Americans dead body on my TV, I haven’t seen one yet. But the media is OOOHHHH SOOOO MEAAAAN TO MEEEE AND MY CONSERVATIVE FRIENDS!!!! If only LIBERULS weren’t editing the entire internet of conservative facts we could prove our point.

  9. bongoman says:

It’s about bases man. 58 of them.

  10. neocon says:

    barasso,

I wasn’t complaining. I have no beef with the MSM. There actions speak louder than my words.

But your presumption that there is “nothing going on” because of the lack of coverage is very telling indeed. You never disappoint.

    bongo,

I only heard that there was going to be 52. Are you sure it’s 58? I heard Cheney was going to put in an indoor swimming pool in one of them and all the evangelicals can swim free on Thursdays.

  11. dedosinuna says:

So here we have a blog entry decreeing that Obama’s seal somehow shows he is “arrogant” and “egotistical”… on a blog with the seal of the President’s office prominently featured in the upper left corner.

btw, Matt and Mark, did you have official permission to put that Seal there on you blog? And what does putting the Presidential Seal on your proclaimed “Blogs for Victory” say about your own arrogance and ego (not to mention your lack of imagination)? Afterall, yours is not just a seal that kind of resembles the seal of the President, but is a strict copy of the original.

Does the President of the United States officially endorse this blog? If not, then you should take down that seal. Who do you think you are? The President’s spokespeople?

  12. Kahn says:

This is a silly discussion. Lets stick with Obamas socialist agenda, naive foreign affairs views, and totally crazy energy plan. That’s enough, don’t ya think?

  13. Keets says:

I Henceforth decree this nation be forever referred to as: Obamaland! And you, my subjects, are all its Obamians.

  14. Mark Noonan says:

    dedo,

Well, lets have a look ’round here…ok, and over there….and then around back of that…ok, checked everywhere and haven’t found any indicator that I or Matt are running for President…

  15. Mark Noonan says:

    bagni,

We Earthlings insist on a proper sense of decorum…and one day Obama might very well stand in front of a podium with the Presidential seal upon it…but lets first get him nominated (he hasn’t officially been so), have a campaign, conduct a vote and see if he wins…and then wait till January before we have him take office and start to use that seal…

  16. Dennis says:

Lacking anything of substance to discredit Barack Obama, Mark ‘n’ Matt resort to trivialities and schoolyard tactics to try and make some smear stick to the man they fear so greatly.

It is surely not arrogance or ego that offends them, but the fact that a liberal has received plaudits from millions of Americans as a candidate of greater honesty and promise than anyone seen in recent decades. And it offends Mark ‘n’ Matt that the presidency of Mr. Bush seems so small and mean by comparison.

While Obama’s people made a minor gaffe in the placement of this ridiculous “seal” (let’s please squeeze our minds hard to not recall the “Mission Accomplished” excesses committed by the Bush administration on the deck of that aircraft carrier) they have by and large run a clean, honorable and efficient campaign operation.

While Mark ‘n’ Matt decry this silly seal, a federal appeals court has freshly condemned the Bush admin’s indefinite detention of prisoners seized for bounty payments and held incommunicado at Guantanamo.

Moreover the Supreme Court has three times rebuffed the Bush admin’s contravention of Constitutional principles in its treatemnt of detainees. Meanwhile Mr. Bush clings to his putative “right” to torture other human beings as long as he uses other words to describe his methods, while American troops are cheaply treated with antidepressants for serious dysfunctions rising from their service to his flawed policies.

You want arrogance in marketing? Look to the Bush administration’s masterful use of misdirection and stage-propping for countless deceptive initiatives, from their fraudulent Medicare package and No Child Left Behind to selling warrantless wiretapping to the public as a safety measure and bailing out predatory banking institutions as a means to save the economy.

No, it is not arrogance or unwarrranted entitlement that Mark ‘n’ Matt despise – it is that a liberal Democrat has seized the imaginations of so many Americans.

It is only right-wing fanatics who derisively label Obama as a “messiah” – most of his supporters see him as a common-born man with a good work ethic, an inquisitive mind and a good conscience who wants to be of service to his nation. And after nearly eight years of a spoiled, narrow-minded, stubborn and self-entitled child of privilege in the White House, we like that concept.

  17. Mark Noonan says:

    Dennis,

So, where was that good, Obama conscience when Rezko was corruptly helping him buy his mansion at a discount in spite of the fact that Obama was rolling in dough from his book sales?

  18. Chuckasaurus says:

    Dennis……Yawn.

  19. dedosinuna says:

Deleted – obscenity, off topic, insults.

  20. Dennis says:

Mark, what an artless diversion. Obama hardly bought a mansion by any typical contemporary standard. It was a house in Chicago that enabled him to live and work in the same general vicinity.

Furthermore his book income was hard-earned, honest gain. It was the first real money he’d ever seen. Just because your book isn’t quite so popular is no reason for sour grapes.

Finally Obama, unlike McCain, received no ethically questionable advantages from anybody. Rezko’s problems are his own and Obama contributed nothing to them nor profited a nickel from them.

Chuckosaurus, if Obama’s resume bores you that doesn’t seem to bother the electorate too much. His books are doing well on the free market and his poll numbers are encouraging.

  21. Dennis says:

Mark, what happened to dedosinuna’s last post responding to your post no. 14? It was articulate, to the point and contained no obscenities whatsoever. And poof, it’s gone.

You just can’t make it on an even playing field, can you?

  22. neocon says:

“Lacking anything of substance to discredit Barack Obama…” – Dennis

Oh that’s been done son. Now were on to just some recreational fun bashing. Substance is easy.

I also find it amusing that you resort to a year old talking point about a banner (speaking of substance), to demonstrate your failure under this administration and your BDS.

Can you prove the administration was holding Gitmo detainees for bounty? Otherwise, we’ll just notch this up to more lack of substance, right? I mean afterall you’re all about substance, right?

The Democrats just relented and absolved the Telcom companies of culpability. And torture is just the baseless drama-queen talking point that never gained traction, NCLB was spearheaded by Ted Kennedy, and the Democratic Congress is the body looking to bail out the lenders. Are you sure you prefer substance, because you’re nothing of the sort.

Dennis, I am disppointed. Your post started with such promise, the first few words anyway, and then spiraled downward into nothing more than demented, debunked, liberal propaganda. In other words, no substance.

    Wanna try again?
    have a nice day
    peace, neocon

And what does putting the Presidential Seal on your proclaimed “Blogs for Victory” say about your own arrogance and ego?

Not to mention the fact that their other site, GOP Bloggers, has a header saying that they’re still blogging for the majority despite the fact that the GOP is, you know, not the majority party.

    >>>>Not to mention the fact that their other site, GOP Bloggers, has a header saying that they’re still blogging for the majority despite the fact that the GOP is, you know, not the majority party.>>>

    MAYBE….MAYBE NOT

Look at a county by county map of voting districts and their affiliations, the country is overwhelmingly red.
The exception are the very large cities with misrepresentation of democrats living in them….mostly failed, bankrupt, and Extremely DANGEROUS.

Seven or eight cities DO NOT represent the average American.
