Crow…Yum: McCain/Palin ‘08! Media Echoes The “Heartbeat Away From The Presidency” Line

McCain-Palin 2008 - The Winning Ticket

August 29th, 2008 at 11:35am Matt Margolis

That’s the word

UPDATE, 11:35 AM: McCain campaign email:

JOHN MCCAIN SELECTS ALASKA GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN AS VICE PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE

For Immediate Release

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.

Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us — Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.

In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

###

UPDATE: A pathetic statement from Obama campaign spokesman:

“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

Umm, hello, this week, the Democrats nominated someone with zero foreign policy experience for the presidency.

.

UPDATE: The choice of Palin blindsided the Obama camp:

Ms. Palin came as a surprise not only to many Republicans and journalists, but also to the Obama team. The campaign has been busily preparing TV commercials to run against Mitt Romney — with aides gleefully watching hours of footage of Romney-McCain exchanges from the primary — but far little opposition research had been prepared about the Alaska governor. And aides said no commercials were ready to be immediately released, which the McCain campaign did when Mr. Biden was chosen.

More here.

Well, Romney was my first choice and I would have liked to see him become President one day. But, if Palin is the pick then I will stand behind it and work as hard as I would if Romney was on the ticket.

A thread from DailyKos - one I can totally agree with (for once)!

I’ve been reading diaries all morning about how Sarah Palin is such a bad pick. Wake up Kossacks, McCain and his Rovian team have just fired a brilliant salvo against the Democrats.

-Palin completely redefines the media narrative. The traditional media will be buzzing about this unknown quantity for days. There will be much more interest in the Republican Convention as reporters flock around the photogenic Governor. (yep … yep … yep!)

-Palin soothes the fears of those Republicans who think John McCain is not conservative enough. (yep … yep … yep!)

-She will attract the women who cannot bring themselves to vote for Obama and could make a serious dent in that demographic. (yep … yep … yep!)

-She nullifies Joe Biden’s attack capabilities as he might come off looking like a bully in the debates. (yep … yep … yep! However, I believe Palin could hold her own against the #1 Gasbag in the Senate!)

Remember, the Republican campaign is always about superficiality. This is slam dunk superficially. (that’s bunk and we all know it!)

What we can do, is take this pick dead seriously, and work our butts off. (you bet that’s what I am going to do!)

    Hee hee hee.

  • 3. Rich  |  August 29th, 2008 at 11:59 am

Great pick. I wanted Petreus but don’t think that was even legally possible. This was my second pick. She will get NRA behind her, pro-lifers behind her, hunters behind her, women behind her. This was a homerun. I haven’t heard more then ten sentences all day about Obama’s crappy speech. guess it wasn’t as earth shaking as you lib turds thought it was. As far as experience, please make that an issue. Obama started running for President his first year as a senator, so if you tear into her for being a governor, you will be pulling the rug out from Obama. With 90% of blacks voting for Obama, what percent of women will vote for McCain-Palin? An extra five percent woman swing and we are talking landslide. This is a game changer.

  • 4. Retired Spook  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:00 pm

-She will attract the women who cannot bring themselves to vote for Obama and could make a serious dent in that demographic.

Kimberly, I don’t mean to sound like a sexist, but if Obama doesn’t get over 50% of the female vote, he doesn’t win — it’s that simple.

I’ll bet a lot of Democrat insiders have more than a chill running down their legs right now.

  • 5. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:07 pm

    LOL, RS! I don’t think it’s sexist. It’s a fact. :-)

I just donated to the McCain campaign to show my appreciation for his pick.

  • 6. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:08 pm

Well it appears McCain chose a fresh new candidate that can bring change, while Obama chose another grumpy old white guy.

    See you in November

  • 7. Eric T  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:08 pm

Sarah Palin is a good choice!!!

  • 8. Thrower  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:08 pm

My mind is open on her. She may be a star and I hope she is. This country needs fresh new leadership. The flip side is that the experience charge McCain has made about Obama is off the table. Worse, the appearance is that he never believed himself that it was important or he would have given it great weight when he picked a running mate.

I believe on nine occasions, vice presidents have become presidents. In one case, it happened one month after inaguration. If she is to qualify herself to lead this country, she has a lot of catching up to do.

  • 9. 08ama  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:10 pm

    Chill down their leg ???
    BWahahahahah !!

McSame just handed the presidency to Obama.

Talk about ‘not ready for prime time on day one’

Why do the Repugs keep shooting themselves in the foot/face ? Is their aim bad ?

This could explain why McSame is sending his wife off to far, far, far away Geoergia.

  • 10. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:17 pm

Wow. Okay, so I don’t know anything about her beyond what is being tossed around this morning. Obviously an attempt to woo women (my guess had been an anti-abortion woman though I didn’t know the pool of choices well).

The big problem will be the “heartbeat away” issue, and in McCane’s case that is a serious consideration. Nobody talks about it much but it is the looming GOP elephant in the room. It will be harder and harder not to talk about the age issue when clearly the VP choice was not made on qualifications (unless she’s the top GOP alternate to McC?), but on a political balancing act.

Good luck with this one, and we’ll see how McC frames it. But I’d venture this one will start to unravel fairly soon as we all start to find out who she is, beyond former beauty queen governor.

  • 11. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:18 pm

Are you talkiing about Obama or Palin?

  • 12. Nietzsche-Is-Pietzsche  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:18 pm

Well there goes McCain’s experience argument out the window. Don’t pat yourselves to hard on the back Fundies/Repulic(an)s, this pick reads as pure gimmickry to the average American. Obama has drank your milkshake. You’re just trying to play catch up now and it’s showing.

  • 13. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:19 pm

08ama … that’s all you can say? LOL!

Conservatives around the country are rejoicing and will now come out in droves to vote. Women who feel cheated by The One will vote for McCain-Palin. Conservative Dems/Reagan Dems are going to vote McCain-Palin. The gun-toting, bitter, church goers are going to vote McCain-Palin.

The Obama camp just sent out a pr stating Palin is in the hands of big oil and Gov Mark Sanford said … They don’t know Sarah Palin.

This is gonna get good …

  • 14. Thrower  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:20 pm

If that’s Palin on his left, she looks like his granddaughter.

  • 15. Mark Noonan  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

    jayhay,

Amazing how you lefties are willing to utterly disrespect a woman who has risen high in the world by pure grit and hard work…thought you lefties were the cats who treated women with r-e-s-p-e-c-t…very odd…

  • 16. Mark Noonan  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:22 pm

    NiP,

No matter how you slice it, she’s got more practical, real world, executive experience than Obama…and, also, don’t piss her off…she knows how to use a gun…

    McCain/Palin ‘08 Woohooo!

  • 19. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:30 pm

Noonan - What are you talking about? Your problem is you have a belief and then you go out to twist everything around to “prove” it. “Utter disrespect”? What the hell are you talking about…

  • 20. Parker  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:30 pm

    another grumpy old white guy

Are you talking about Biden or McCain?

  • 21. Parker  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:34 pm

btw - I think McCain went out on a limb on this one, but it might just pan out for him to gobble up some of the disenfranchised Hillary voters. Not a bad choice.

  • 22. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

By the way, where’s McC’s flag pin?! Or is that another elusive GOP “principle”?

  • 23. Retired Spook  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

The crowd in Dayton is going nuts. There is NOTHING you Lib-turds can do to rain on this parade.

Nietzsche, laugh now while you still can. If you think the Dem base is as excited about Biden as the GOP base is about Palin, then I’ve got a cool bridge I’d like to sell you.

Did “The One” give a speech last night? I don’t remember. Gotta check with my grandson to see if his Scout Troop has any popcorn left from their fund raiser last year. This is gonna be a fun next two months.

  • 24. WhatChange  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Palin or Queen Pelosi? Blowhard Biden, please say all the nasty you can think of. Finally America will be able to drill here, drill now. Eat your hearts out sexist “progressives.” Joe, foreign policy “expert” how is the surge working out, and how is no drill, no drill working out for you?

    “NiP,
No matter how you slice it, she’s got more practical, real world, executive experience than Obama…”

No matter how you SPIN it McCain’s “experience” argument is now deader than his speeches. I can’t wait until that first question from the press, “But wait, wasn’t your whole problem with Obama regarding his young age and inexperience in foreign affairs? ” Oh what a gift this has been!! :-)

“and, also, don’t piss her off…she knows how to use a gun… “_mark noonan

That kind of talk is precisely why we need stricter gun laws. As Biden said about that gun touting yahoo on youtube, “If that’s his “baby” then he needs some help.” (loud applause)

Wow kim, nothing about how she’ll make a good public servant?

    Typical conservative concerns.
Do what you think it takes to get elected and serve the ideology, not what it takes to serve the country and it’s people.

And umm, hello, we’ve had a president for the last 8 years who had no foreign policy experience.

  • 27. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Sorry Nippers … McCain needs the base to win and now, he’s got it.

The One’s slogan about “change” went out the window when he picked Biden. Change is McCain and Palin who fight for We the People.

PS The Obama camp should have done more research on Palin before inserting both feet into mouth.

  • 28. William Teach  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

Pretty awesome first impression. She looks like a keeper. My sense was that Clinton would be the first woman president but this lady may have what it takes. The short term reality is, however, that people don’t vote for vice-presidents and there isn’t going to be a McCain administration.

Great pick! Palin walks the walk. She’s a Pro-life, reformer, who’s fiscally responsible, a maverick in her own right, and is seeming fearless in doing what she perceives is right. She’s a card carrying lifetime member of the NRA who hunts and appears love moose, but hates pork!!!

I love for gal as McCain VP pick both strategically and philosophically; if I were donkish, I’d be afraid, very afraid!

  • 35. Retired Spook  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:50 pm

The DNC fax machine must still be jammed. Our resident libs are just making up incoherent sh*t as they go along.

This isn’t just a home run, it’s a walk-off GRAND SLAM in the bottom of the 9th.

What you seem to be missing is that the whole Democratic Party as well as a good portion of this great country is excited about Obama. It’s obvious you didn’t watch the DNC Convention or else you’d have seen that. As for “laughing now” at you Fundie-Republic(an)s, trust that I’ll be laughing all the way to President Obama”s first day in office and beyond.

  • 37. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:53 pm

She seems like a nice person, and certainly a better face for the future GOP. But the “heartbeat” thing will probably be a lot to overcome, and selling the GOP as the best way to erase these last 8 years of GOP bungling, corruption and incompetence seems tough too.

Good luck! Bring it on… And I know it’s tough for the GOP, but try to keep it civil and positive.

  • 38. Thrower  |  August 29th, 2008 at 12:56 pm

No Spook, it is not a walk-off grand slam. McCain just threw the “not ready on day one” charge in the trash. But she looks like she has a future.

Oh yea BIG CHANGE there. As Obama said “Do you want 10% of change or REAL CHANGE”.

Sorry Kimberly but you can’t support an unpopular president over 90% of the time and then call yourselves an agent of “change”. LMAO!!!!

  • 41. Wendi  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:00 pm

How sad for you that you don’t see the writing on the wall. A woman with 5 children, one with Down’s (due to her advanced age no doubt) has no consideration for the next generation let alone the environment. Wake up and smell the coffee before its to late. The environment is a HUGE issue. It is not just about tree huggers its our survival as a race. We can get out ahead of this if we look to something other than oil, limit our reproduction, and have more societal concerns than the almighty dollar. Grow a brain people..look around denial is not a river in Egypt!

  • 43. coulterfan  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:03 pm

    GREAT NEWS!

Clearly, McCain wants someone with the breadth of experience as. . . what’s her name? Oh yeah, Palin. I’m sure that she’ll be a close McCain advisor on all matters of National Security and Foreign Policy. I can see him really respecting and listening to her views with regard to Iraq, Al Qaeda, Pakistan, etc.

And clearly she was chosen because she’s the most qualified person for the job of President. Certainly, Condi Rice, Fiorina, Hutchinson, etc don’t have the wealth of experience and judgement that someone like. . . ummm. . .. Palin brings to the ticket!

The cynics will say that she was chosen because she’s a woman who’s also strongly pro-life, anti-gay marriage, etc. But clearly that would be the affirmative action that Conservatives rail on about.

I’m sure Harriet Miers. . . I mean, Palin will really EXCITE the independents. In fact, EVERYONE who agrees with the Bush-McCain policies will LOVE her!

  • 44. WhatChange  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:04 pm

The McCain Republican acceptance speech platform should have oil wells, American flags, Navy Seals and pictures of American women. Dems, you can have the Code Pink gals, the transgenders, lesbians, Pelosi, on and on and on…… Palin is my type. Can’t wait for the sexist comments from Bevis/Butthead.

Dig deeper Dems, the other side is close.

Obama claims the mantle of ‘change’, but he has always glad to keep corruption and nepotism alive in Illinois.

He claims the mantle of ‘change’ and ‘bipartisanship’, but he chose another blaitantly partisan Washington insider.

McCain and Palin have done more to ‘walk the walk’ in their respective roles than Obama and Biden have ever dreamed of.

Yup, and McCain, the guy running for president, has it. Obama doesn’t.

While Obama has been making speeches and avoiding tough votes, Palin has been out there doing. Running a State.

Obama’s congress has pretty much been in the low 20’s or less all 2008. Meanwhile, Pali’s approval rating in Alaska is over 80%.

Suck it up libs! There have to be some bars open and ready for you to drown your sorrows at.

  • 53. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:28 pm

    Ramesh Ponnuru @ The Corner:

The pros: She’s a pro-life conservative reformer from outside Washington, and a woman. The pick signals a boldness and willingness to mix things up that the McCain campaign, like Republicans generally, need.

The cons: Inexperience. Palin has been governor for about two minutes. Thanks to McCain’s decision, Palin could be commander-in-chief next year. That may strike people as a reckless choice; it strikes me that way. And McCain’s age raised the stakes on this issue. As a political matter, it undercuts the case against Obama.

Conservatives are pointing out that it is tricky for the Obama campaign to raise the issue of her inexperience given his own, and note that the presidency matters more than the vice-presidency. But that gets things backward. To the extent the experience, qualifications, and national-security arguments are taken off the table, Obama wins. And it’s not just foreign policy. Palin has no experience dealing with national domestic issues, either. (On the other hand, as Kate O’Beirne just told me, we know that Palin will be ready for that 3 a.m. phone call: She’ll already be up with her baby.)

Tokenism. Can anyone say with a straight face that Palin would have gotten picked if she were a man?

  • 54. William of Orange  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:30 pm

“Dems, you can have the Code Pink gals, the transgenders, lesbians, Pelosi, on and on and on…… Palin is my type. Can’t wait for the sexist comments from Bevis/Butthead.”

..er, of that formidable collection, I think the most grotesque is Pelosi.

  • 55. Retired Spook  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:34 pm

Tokenism. Can anyone say with a straight face that Palin would have gotten picked if she were a man?

As straight a face as you’d have if you tried to say Obama would be the Donk nominee if he weren’t black.

  • 56. GOPer  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

HMMM, not such a good choice. McCain is truly desperate and is choosing gender over experience. The dems are going to eat us alive now. The GOP is truly broken. I hope the next 4 to 8 years with Obama isn’t going to be too painful. See you all in 4 years when we hopefully have a better ticket.

  • 57. Nietzsche-Is-Pietzsche  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:36 pm

    LMAO!!
    I’ll be having a drink alright….to CELEBRATE!!
You Fundicans have just negated your own argument about experience, readiness to be President, and foreign policy knowledge. My GAWD all that money you wasted on those commericals hammering away at Obama and you go and do this. I’m absolutely giddy about this news . :-D

  • 58. Nevada Pundit  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm

I’m not sure why everyone is stating that Palin doesn’t have the experience. Of the 4 people in the race she has more executive experience than any of them. I think it is funny that our VP pick has more experience than the Dems Presidential pick. This also has the advantage of helping to nullify old windbag Biden.

We also now have a ticket where both people have a history of working across party lines to accomplish what needs to be done. Unlike Obama who votes 96% of the time down party lines and is 11th in the Senate as far as partisan voting and his running mate who ranks 8th. BTW McCain ranks 65th. So let’s be real, which ticket is really for change? Obama is really turning into the dems generic novelty candidate.

  • 59. ttkings  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm

What a joke, what is wrong with our GOP always trying to placate political correctness. This is it for us……we’re doomed now.

  • 60. William of Orange  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:43 pm

    Energized!

I caught the announcement and immediately went from a passive “I’ll vote for McCain over the Cypher” person to an enthusiastic supporter of this ticket. A lot of people have nailed it: Democrats spend all their time bloviating about Hope and Change and end up with a 145-day senator and a 36-year insider white guy with hair plugs. The Republicans pick a war hero and a state chief executive with an 80% approval rating and a good shot at being the first LADY vice president of the United States.

..umm..please tell me which party had the first BLACK secretary of state and, for that matter, the first BLACK WOMAN secretary of state?

I can hear Hillary now: “I coulda been a contendah..”

..where do I sign up to help McCain/Palin in ‘08?

See you all in 4 years when we hopefully have a better ticket.

GOPer, I’ll bet Canada would take you in for the next four years. You might check and see if CO has a spare room.

I’ve spoken with several friends on the phone over the last 2 hours — all Republicans and all reluctant supporters of John McCain. All of them are JAZZED!!

  • 66. Sunny  |  August 29th, 2008 at 1:58 pm

I would hope that before everyone attacks this woman they will take a deep breath and find out where she stands on all of the issues that affect our country. Give her a chance to speak before judging. I had hoped that everyone would give the Democratic candidates an opportunity to provide their positions on the issues before being attacked - which didn’t happen. It would be refreshing for everyone to behave in a more civilized and respectful manner when discussing these individuals. All are good decent human beings that love our country. Maybe I am the only one posting here that feels this way but I am sick of the degrading, nasty, hateful remarks made about the candidates - regardless of party affiliation. For all that profess to be Christian and follow the teachings of Christ, believe me, the rhetoric has been anything but Christian. This election presents an exceptional opportunity for this country to come together. Regardless of who is elected in November it will be a first for our nation. And I would hope that all of us will support our new president and his administration until they show they do not deserve our support. We can respectful disagree without the name calling and exaggerated lies/misinformation and truly ignorant statements that are posted way too often on this blog.

  • 68. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

Sunny … did you hear about this?

My secretary was just listening to channel 7 news on the thedenverchannel.com online.

The news guys had the audio on and did not know it.

They commented that they think McCain and Palin must be sleeping together.

They commented about Sara(h) Palin’s nice ass.

They said a lot of very unseemly things.

This seems like a big deal and they should be called on it. My secretary sent them an e-mail and they immediately cut off the audio…

…For myself, as the father of a little girl who I want recognized for her accomplishments and hard work, it was pretty offensive.

A senior news editor at Denver’s ABC 7 said the feed was a CNN pool feed and that the camera was among a group of news photographers.

    SHAME ON THEM!!

  • 69. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

Right on Sunny, but good luck around here.

And now we can get back to the real choice, McCain v. Obama. And McCain STILL doesn’t even have a foreign policy section on his website. I mean, WTF? Tons of military/national security stuff, and that’s the reality, McCain’s foreign policy IS military, and it’s all viewed through a lens of national security. He’s just stuck, building that bridge to the 20th century…

  • 70. Marty13  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Some of you guys just kill me………..it’s been suggested here that this pick may pick off disaffected Hillary supporters. Huh? Why is that I dare ask? Because Palin is a female? Fact is, she is the antithesis of everything a Hillary supporter believes in. Imagine, all the female dems who will flock to this no-choice, gun toting, oil connected woman.
I can’t wait to see the first commercials with her Alaska State Trooper ex-brother in-law. Even better, the Alaskan Commissioner of Public Safety she nailed when he wouldn’t summarily fire the above for having the temerity to divorce her sister.
As much as I loathe Mitt, he was your guy; Photogenic and with some corporate credentials. Palin wraps this election up in a bow. Thanks John……………..

  • 71. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

“A woman with 5 children, one with Down’s (due to her advanced age no doubt) has no consideration for the next generation let alone the environment.”

First, I can’t believe you actually wrote “due to her advanced age no doubt”. Secondly, the Dems have no consideration for the next generation because they keep aborting them.

  • 72. Blacknred  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

I thought what an interesting pick at first. Believed it to be another Harriet Miers gimmick. She definitely won’t be confused with Margaret Thatcher. As mentioned before given the experience of Rice and Hutchinson, if McCain wanted to go this route why not one of them a heart beat away from a 72 year old President on January 20th.

McCain did just throw away any chance at gaining Hilliary supporters. I don’t know much about her, but was so relieved to turn on Limbaugh and hear him gush over her. It was as if he was dreaming of Viagra and getting himself some VP putang. Not one Hillary supporter would ever vote for someone Limbaugh praises. After three tries he is still looking for the perfect stepford wife. Mr. Palin you may also want to keep an eye on McCain he has been proven to stray from time to time. It is going to get interesting. Our country is a changing.

  • 73. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

McCain picked someone to help him get elected president, and Obama picked someone who could be president. Each choice says something.

But McCain was screwed, he had no choice that wouldn’t PO a constituency. He had nothing, so he went with the political choice. She seems nice, good creationist cred, brings the median age down a couple decades…

  • 74. Thrower  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

McCain basically eliminated Obama’s advantage by making three cases. One, he is a celebrity (e.g. all flash and no dash). Second he is an elitist. And third, he is too inexperienced to be entrusted with the highest office in the world.

The first argument was always crap but it had some traction. McCain eliminated the second argument when he blanked on the number of houses he owns. Clearly the son and grandson of admirals, and the husband of one of the wealthier women in America has never felt economic pain while Obama just as clearly has. And with Palin as his running mate, the experience argument is now gone. Worse, it now looks like he never believed it himself.

I will repeat that we just might have glimpsed the 45th president this morning. If she has lived her life according to the principles she articulated, she is a breath of fresh air. Most of us hate Washington, big federalism and the giveaway of our tax money to companies like Halliburton. Nothing she said impressed me more than the belief that Alsakans should build and pay for a bridge if they wanted one. Amen to that. Give her some seasoning and I could vote for her.

She has a long way to go to be vetted and she needs to pick up a national resume at some point. If she can survive all of that, it looks like she rocks. After eight years of Obama, and 230 years of men running the country, the stage may well be set for a woman President in 2016.

But right now Obama looks positively seasoned alongside her. He has been on a national stage for four years; she has been there for less than four hours. She would be one 72 year old heartbeat away from the oval office and McCain is fine with that. Given all of the attacks on Obama’s thin resume, that looks hypocritical.

I think some of you need to take off the red eye shades and look at this race through a more rational filter. McCain has systematically destroyed the arguments he used to bring Obama back to him in the polls. This looks more like a Democratic landslide to me every day.

  • 75. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Thrower - Nicely done. The GOP is just stuck with their approach of tearing down the other guy, no matter if that means leaving a string of contradictions and hypocrisies in their wake. They just seem to be the only ones who don’t see it. But I think the brand will come through this down time better off. But the gnashing of teeth along the way will be epic.

  • 76. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

The arguments are still there, Thrower.

Accepting the nomination at a stadium = celebrity wannabe.

He’s still an elitist. Just because he says he isn’t doesn’t make it so.

Experience. Palin has more experience to lead our country in her little pinky than Obama has in his entire body.

She has worked with both Republicans and Democrats to get things done. Obama hasn’t. She has bucked the establishment for the better of the country, not the party. Obama hasn’t. She has executive experience, running a State. Obama doesn’t. She doesn’t go with the status quo just because someone in her party tells her to. Obama does.

    McCain-Palin ‘08!!

In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn’t seem “productive.”

… Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her (Palin) about the possibility of becoming McCain’s ticket mate.

Palin replied: “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day?”

    Holy SH#T!!! LOL

Bring on the experience arguments Fundies. It’s gonna be great watching McCain/”Barbie” ‘08 go down in flames.

The Presidency and VP are the Executive Branch. As stated Palin has by far more executive experience than any of the 4 candidates. Bevis/Butthead have none, and 2 heartbeats away from the Presidency Queen Pelosi arguably wears a suit emptier than Obama’s. Finding a suit that empty is hard to do, but the Dems have finally found success at something—empty suits.

Imagine Queen Pelosi 2 heartbeats from the Presidency!

    >>As straight a face as you’d have if you tried to say Obama would be the Donk nominee if he weren’t black.<<

Huh? Didn’t Obama get over 18 million votes and run an extremely effective primary campaign?

Did you see his speech last night? Do you really believe he was nominated because he’s black? If so, your prejudices get in the way of your judgement.

That’s like saying McCain only got the nod because he’s OLD! You might have noticed that being black, being elderly, being Jewish, etc doesn’t really give you an enormous advantage in life.

Palin is a “Hail-Mary Pass” designed to appease the Wingnut base. Can you honestly see her going toe-to-toe with Putin? Confronting dictators, running a WAR for Chrissakes!!!

Obama, in contrast, has shown that he has the judgement, the leadership abilities, the communication skills, and the legislative experience to lead. If something, God forbid, was to happen to Pres. Obama- VP Biden would be ready to take command.

If something happened to Pres. McCain, would you have full confidence in Palin to take over as Commander in Chief? REALLY?

  • 87. coulterfan  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

What does Harriet Miers, I mean Palin think about Obama’s energy plan?

“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”

In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, “Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”

  • 88. LiberalMind  |  August 29th, 2008 at 2:58 pm

    This is classic GOP thinking.

They have been very successful in getting people to vote against their own interests.

They manage to gather the middle class to parade for the rights of the super wealthy to plunder their health care budgets, retirement savings and future opportunity.

Here we see the assumption that enough women are stupid enough to vote for a ticket that is totally opposed to what is best for women.

Vote for an anti-feminist to avenge Hillary’s defeat, perhaps?

Vote for someone determined to overturn reproductive rights so essential to women freedoms?

    Will it work?

“Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”

Is this a tweens oriented blog. My 7th grade teacher wants me to get involved in some politics discussion. This seems right at my level.

I mean, duh, Barrack Obama is obviously a dumb guy that could not handle the policy discussions George Bush is having all around the global, including the Iraq. I mean, come on, LOL LOL LOL, obviously running a giant sized supermega economy like the Alaska qualifies one to negotiate with the terrorist threats and despots of the world.

I still think Barrack is the greatest celebrity of all time. Although his complexity talk is kind of a turn off.

Well Kim I know what DICK did on Saturday, 2/13/2006.
He went to the Armstrong Ranch (South Texas), got drunk, killed a bunch of flightless birds then shot his hunting partner in the face. Oh yeah, he also used the SS to keep local law enforcement away for 13 hours until he could concoct a story (sober up) to be released to the local newspaper. At least he didn’t start an unnessasary war that day.

  • 93. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

LOL! Biden’s toughest choice is to figure out which foot to remove first from his big mouth during the debates. Bring it!

I have more confidence in Palin stepping into the top spot, should the need arise, than The One’s capabilities. The “tiny” problem Iran has just increased the number of operating centrifuges at its uranium enrichment plant to 4,000, a top official said Friday, pushing ahead with the nuclear program despite threats of new U.N. sanctions. Yeah, Iran is a tiny problem, right O?

I like Obama but I don’t understand the choice of Palin at all. I was worried McCain would pick Romney who’s a very impressive guy who obviously could lead the US if he had to. More than that, however, Romney is very strong where McCain is weakest — economics and finance. As a management consultant he had to deveop micro-economic opinions on the fly. As the developer of Bain Capital he was responsible for creating out of whole cloth an investment bank, a money-managent function for institutions and individuals, plus a proprietary investment and trading business.

Quite simply, he is one of the finest Republican money minds in the political arena. If Obama’s vulnerable anywhere, it’s not foreign policy because foreign policy in the Wasington think tank and committee model just requires a person learn group-think and some buzzwords.

In face-to-face diplomacy and negotiating, Obama crushes McCain. McCain’s capitivity says nothing about his foreign policy experience. It says something about his character perhaps, but aside from that it’s but a big biographical note, albeit and interesting and inspiring one.

Obama though has curiously avoided hitting the books on economics, instead he covered his foreign policy credentials by picking Biden.

Romney was available and would have outdebated Obama or Biden on any economic issue.

Huckabee scared me, too. He was great with the base and has a religious sincerity none of the others can match. He’s also bright, charming and has an uncoventional way of looking at things. I also think that if McCain was worried about the better man in Romney overshadowing him, Huckabee would have been better. Surely, Huckabee is more intelligent than McCain, much more affable, has read a lot more, and is not gaffe-prone. Huckabee, knows, that he’s be the junior man in this and would get into a power scuffle with McCain as Romney might have.

I don’t see how Palin helps. She’s no wizard on economics, foreign policy or even social issues, though her views on the latter are strong enough to turn moderates off. He brings nothing electoral-college wise.

She’ll get whipped by Biden in any debate because as gaffe-prone as he is, his knowledge base and form of serious expression are far more advanced than hers are.

Do McCain’s internal numbers tell him something? I’d love to know. It has been my impression that Michelle Obama has been out there on the interview shows trolling for Clinton voters.

I don’t know what she looks like. Is she really good-looking or something?

I don’t see how this plays with a male electorate which went 50/50 for the first time in 2006 but had slipped back to old Repubican “gender jap”. A woman on the ticket is just not a Repulicathing to do.

And BTW.. Incase you didn’t see Obama’s acceptance speech last night I suggest you watch it and see that the Democrats FOUND their balls and they’re young, firm, and made of steel and they’re not dragging the ground like Senator Depends’.

Interesting discussion going on at the Washington Post with a reporter/editor from the Anchorage Daily News. I think it’s still going so you can ask your own questions. http://tinyurl.com/6flgrp

About her strengths and weaknesses: “She is smart, vivacious and energetic; she tends to oversimplify complex issues, has had difficulty delegating authority, and clearly has difficulty distinguishing the line between her public responsibilities and private wishes. She is under legislative investigation on this, the so-called “troopergate” issue, in which she is said to have used improper influence to try to get her sister’s ex-husband fired from the state troopers.”

About her approval ratings: “Her approval ratings are high–65 percent, or so–but down from 80 percent earlier in her term. Most Alaskan’s haven’t watched her as closely as most reporters or legislators. If you took a poll of reporters and legislators I expect her approval rating would be down in the teens or twenties.”

Asked why reporters and legislators rate her so low: “It is clear that she has not paid much attention to the nitty-gritty unglamorous work of government, of gaining consensus, and making difficult compromises. She seems to be of the view that politics shouild be all rather simple. That often appeals to the wider public, but frustrates those who see themselves as laboring in the less glamorous parts of the vineyard.”

In explaining the low opinion of reporters/legislators, what do they know that the general public does not: “One example: The Republican chair of the Alaska State House Finance budget subcommittee on Heath and Medicaid says he can’t find anyone in Palin’s executive office who cares about helping bring that budget under control. He is furious with her about that.”

Is she experienced enough to be president should something happen to McCain: “I have a hard time seeing how her qualifications stack up against the duties and responsibilities of being president.”

  • 117. Blacknred  |  August 29th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

I would hope that before everyone attacks this woman they will take a deep breath and find out where she stands on all of the issues that affect our country. Give her a chance to speak before judging.66. Sunny | August 29th, 2008 at 1:58 pm

If there are any thoughts of going easy on her because she is a woman; forget it. With McCain’s age, should he win there is a good chance she will be President. This could be the cons plan all along; elect an old liberal republican to keep the power but attach a young con to the team. Think about it, why would the cons elect McCain in the first place when Romney was out there? With Bush in the toilet Rove knew a con could not win the top job.

Democrats tried to run an above board campaign in 2004 and what did they get for their decency; election of Alito and Roberts to the court. She is a female republican and a con therefore it can be concluded she is a B*itch. Let that be the baseline.

  • 118. Timothy Horrigan  |  August 29th, 2008 at 4:48 pm

Logically, Palin’s choice should eliminate the premise that Obama is not qualified to be President. If someone who served half a term as governor of a small state, was the mayor of a small rural town for a while, and was Miss Congeniality at the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant is qualified to be President (should something happen to McCain)…. then surely someone who served 4 years as a US Senator, 10 years as a State Senator, and was the Editor of the Harvard Law School MUST be qualified.

However, logic counts for very little in politics. Especially not when Republicans are involved :-)

And I already see some effort at logic…. her brief service as a mayor and governor means she has executive experience. OOOHHHH! Whereas Obama supposedly has none. (Not counting his Senate office, which probably has almost as big a staff as the City of Wasilla, population 5000.)

  • 119. 1moreyear  |  August 29th, 2008 at 4:48 pm

Clearly McCain didn’t get the message from the democratic primary, America would rather have a black MAN president than a WOMAN. People, especially the hard core right, don’t believe women are good for anything but babies and dinner. By next week, McCain may as well concede the race. He may have gained some swing votes but I’m afraid he’s lost many of his own party with this one.

Palin began her political career by bucking existing, corrupt political machinery - and won!

Obama began his political career by bowing down in homage to The Weather Underground.

    PS Obama is not black.

  • 123. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

“Clearly McCain didn’t get the message from the democratic primary, America would rather have a black MAN president than a WOMAN.”

Actually, the sheeple foolishly fell for The One (due mainly to his well-written speeches full of typical liberal promises and the MSM fawning all over him). When asked about Obama’s accomplishments, most if not all supporters couldn’t think of ONE.

“People, especially the hard core right, don’t believe women are good for anything but babies and dinner.”

Really? Is that why Dobson, considered hard core right, stated he would not vote for McCain, but today, because of Palin, will?

“By next week, McCain may as well concede the race.”

Translation: By next week, I HOPE McCain concedes the race.

“He may have gained some swing votes but I’m afraid he’s lost many of his own party with this one.”

Obviously, you don’t visit any other conservative blogs. This pick saved McCain. Without his base, he surely would have lost. With Palin, the base is re-energized!!

The best thing about the McCain-Palin ticket: neither one is a LAWYER.

In his acceptance speech, Biden spoke about ordinary folks sitting around their kitchen table and discussing bread and butter issues. What percentage of those people is gonna be drawn to a ticket with Sarah Palin on it vs. the ticket with Joe Biden on ii?

Callers to our local talk show this afternoon have been running about 9-1 in favor of Palin.

BTW, her speech in Dayton today? NO TELEPROMPTER, NO NOTES — straight from the heart.

OT, but has anyone else noticed the security words below the comments block are getting harder and harder to decipher. I had to scroll through about a dozen before I got two that I could read.

    Kimberly,

Reading between the lines of our resident Lefties, don’t you get the sense that deep down they realize they’re screwed. I guess we’ll know for sure by tracking polls over the next week or so.

One of the most interesting aspects of this campaign so far is that Republicans are generally delighted with Obama’s pick of Biden (I know I am), and, if you go by comments across the blogosphere, Democrats are equally delighted with McCain’s pick of Palin. One side is wrong, and it won’t be long before we find out which one it is.

  • 128. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Actually, he just won over every conservative. Palin is a brilliant choice and when the Dems start attacking, women everywhere will be wondering why they’re voting for a party that denied Hillary her right to ascend in favor of a more inexperienced man who didn’t even consider her for the VP in favor of an older white man.

    Oh the humanity.

This election could, and probably will be a landslide.

Excellent post, RS, and yes, I have noticed the same thing on the Captcha.

    More from Clinton supporters:

HOPE ITS PALIN, I WOULD VOTE TWICE JUST TO STICK IT TO OBAMA

They brushed off the women base like dirt. and the GOP pick them up. Go McCain.

Buuuuurn Obama Buuuurn! What a slap in the face.

If it’s Palin, I will put blood and sweat into campaigning for that team.

If this is true, this moves me from staying at home to voting McCain.

I am THRILLED! AS for the Dums whining that she doens’t have experience running things–SHE HAS FIVE KIDS!! TRUST ME! SHE KNOWS HOW TO RUN THINGS!

That’s it for me. I will be voting McCain/Palin, a Republican team, for the very first time in my life. YEOW, how my life has changed this year.

This pick will help cure the heartache of HRC supporters. I know that it lifted my heart already. I’m in so much joy.

This will certainly lure across more than a few Hillary supporters who are OUTRAGED at how SEXIST the DNC is and how disgracefully they treated an extraordinary presidential candidate.

    Hee hee hee

The VP pick of Palin is a joke! C’mon. . . she’s the BEST person for the Commander in Chief, after McCain?!?!?!? Is THAT their argument?

This will undoubtedly shore up his (shrinking) Wingnut base, since she was ONLY chosen because of her “Pro-Life” view. But this is VERY condescending to Hillary Clinton voters and will not peel off any of them!

  • 134. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

RS: I think the lefties were hoping Romney was the choice. Even The One’s campaign spent hours watching Romney and McCain debate. LOL. What a waste of time. They were hoping they could use Romney’s words against McCain, however, that wouldn’t have gone very far as Romney never once said McCain was not qualified to be POTUS … unlike Biden and Clinton saying that about The One. Ouch!

Today, McCain and Palin will be campaigning in three battleground States … awesome.

Last time I heard, this is the real working position. What conservative family values person, accepts a 100% travel assignment where only your presence is absolutely required to do the job.We know that the day will come when the person will have to choose between what the world needs right now and what that small child needs right then. When the needs of a “special needs child”, a 4 month old and a child under 10 years old is in the heart ;and the spouse is out at sea on his traveling job, where is her heart, judgement, accountability and priority going to be ? How does someone make this type of choice? Is this the right person for the job at this point in time? If it were your company would you hire her? It is your country, will you elect her? Let alone allow her to be the second in command with the precious responsiblity she has with her family. This is not the type of situation that allows the stay home comfort of a mayor or a governer, or a job you quit with minor repurcussions like an actor or CEO etc. This is serious right now business. I hear that she is conservative but is that really true? Who is this person and where are her family value priorities?

    # of black people nominated for president of the USA = 1

    # of women = 0

    # of blacks for VP = 0

    # of women = 2, one 26 years ago, another one today. I wonder how long it will be before there’s a black GOP presidential nominee? Another 26 years? More?

    % of population women = ~50%

    % population black = ~13%

  • 165. FactCheck  |  August 29th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Wow, I love the smell of hypocrisy in the afternoon.

It gets even better, Casper. Here’s Karl Rove on VA governor Tom Kaine when he (Kaine) was being considered as a Democratic VP candidate a couple weeks ago:

“With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he’s been a governor for three years. He’s been able but undistinguished. I don’t think people could really name a big, important thing that he’s done … [Kaine] was mayor of the 105th largest city in America. And again, with all due respect to Richmond, Virginia, it’s smaller than Chula Vista, California; Aurora, Colorado; Mesa, or Gilbert, Arizona; North Las Vegas, or Henderson, Nevada. It’s not a big town.”

Sarah Palin has been governor (of a state with a total population of less than 1 million) for less than three years, and before that she was mayor of a town that was…well, vastly smaller than the 105th largest city in America. Whoopsie-daisy, Karl!

Plus, there’s that whole ongoing investigation thing.

palin is doing a 1 time (for now) increase from the state treasury to augment a yearly payout from oil revenues that have been in place for 30 or so years.

looks like she’s politicizing this by making it happen when it’s happening — how convenient. no big deal over this — the US president and congress did the same thing giving some folks back up to $600 recently…

    c’mon, do better than that…

and remember, she may go to jail for ethics violations

  • 173. Blacknred  |  August 29th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

I have had about enough. No one picks a President based on VP choice anyway. Except pick does say something about McCain’s judgement. Tomorrow we are back to Obama Vs McCain/Bush

  • 174. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

You’re getting more and more desperate 1moreyear. That’s hardly proof of a racist and sexist nation. Do you realize that women and minorities also vote? Or are they racist and sexist too???

    LMAO.

  • 175. Nate  |  August 29th, 2008 at 6:56 pm

and how many of you posting on this blog make under 5 million or more per year? mccain makes that the amount that makes you rich.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP-0pedQeG

so all of you making under that are middle class. mccain is only going to help out the rich, how do all you middle classers feel about that?

is mccain at all out of touch putting middle class up to 5 million? jeepers…. where does lower class start? 1 million?

is 8 houses out of touch with the common person? does he know what’s going on for 95% of the USA population? guess not.

  • 176. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

This is who McCain picks to be that heartbeat away? He’s not a maverick, he’s simply reckless, and every chance he gets he proves it.

I can’t believe someone could be more risky than Bush, but this guy’s proving me wrong…

  • 177. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

    Nate,

And he wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years right?

Aren’t the Democrats always lecturing us about context? So why are you lying?

I love the smell of liberal fear.

  • 178. Retired Spook  |  August 29th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

    I have had about enough.

That’s good, BNR, because we’ve certainly had enough of you. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

  • 179. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:03 pm

Can the other 299 million get a piece of that action? - blacknred

    When she’s VP, you will.

  • 180. Peace_is_good_for_economy  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:05 pm

OK, my first reaction was, who the fuck is this girl??

Then I remembered, she’s the one who’s up to her neck in scandal over trying to fire her former brother-in-law and the one who Ted Stevens endorsed.

OK, this lady is a mass of contradictions. First, she’s supposed to draw the woman vote, but she’s pro-life. Then, she hunts, fishes, and is an environmentalist, but supports drilling in ANWR. And she’s supposed to represent change and reform, but she vocally supports Ted Stevens, who reciprocates the action.

Furthermore, her age highlights McCain’s oldness. And, just a tangent here, given that McCain is a 72 year old guy with a tenuous (to say the least) health record it’s fairly likely that at some point, should he be elected, that this woman, who doesn’t even know what the VP does, will become prez. She posed for a shot on VOGUE; I guess that means McCain’s giving up on the celebrity line.

She also negates his arguments against Obama’s experience because she has LESS public-office exp than Obama, and NONE on the national level, along with NO foreign policy exp. She led a town of 8,000 ppl before becoming governor of one of the smallest states in the country (population wise, obviously) for all of two years. Obama led a legislative district in Illinois for twenty years, containing more than twenty-six times Palin’s town’s pop: his district contained 210,000 people. And he was a senator for four years. McCain must also be dropping the experience argument, right?

And, compared to Biden, this is just such a ridiculous choice. He is going to own the bejesus out of her in the debates. It’s not even going to be fair. Like, this is going to be so fucking ridiculously one sided that I can’t begin to describe the fucking ridiculous one-sidedness that this contest will be marked by.

She also can’t speak well, further adding to the McCain speech woes (seriously, did you see Obama’s speech last night? Next week, when you watch McCain’s (always assuming it’s not cut off by Gustav) compare the two. I guarantee you it won’t be close. Also, Obama writes his own speeches).

She’s a continuation of the Bush policies on energy, science, and, well, she’s not a continuation of anything else, b/c she has NO experience, and no positions on anything really, it seems (other than that we should sell out our land for exploitation for 1200 bucks a year).

    What a joke.

And this is going to remind people (her being an attractive woman) that McCain cheated on and ditched his first wife for Cindy McCain. The Obama/Biden storylines really are so much better. McCain’s is simply incomparable off the low end.

One good thing is that Palin is shorter than McCain. Otherwise, imagine how embarrassing that would be.

This is clearly a last-ditch all-or-nothing long-odds bet by McCain. And, if the American people have any sense at all (And I like to think they do…but then I remember this blog) he’s gonna lose this bet.

Go ahead. Try to put a happy face on this. But you’re fucking fried as a party and you know it.

See you in the Twin cities, site of the bridge collapse (Bush spending on Iraq, not infrastructure) and Larry Craig.

    Peace.

    Nate,

How many mortgages nationwide are in default?

An opportunity to learn something here.

  • 182. Nate  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:07 pm

lying? mccain said 5 million in an interview? watch the video. you must not know mccain.

or are you commenting about palin’s increase in the yearly payment from the state coffers…. again, it’s in the news that you linked to. you must not know palin or read the news you link to.

  • 183. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:07 pm

    Gaijin,

The fear you have is palpable and why did you change your name?

  • 184. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

    Nate,

Tell me the context that was said in. Specifically the comment that followed when he said that that comment would be taken out of context. Did you watch the Saddleback interviews, when McCain beat Obama like a rented mule?

    Waiting.

  • 185. Faceplant  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

This pick by McCain demonstrates better than anything what a complete and utter hack Marky Noonan, and the rest of the stooges on this blog are.

How many time have you railed on Obama’s “lack of experience” only to now claim that Palin is experienced enough to become President if she needs to.

And spare me the “executive experience” arugment. That was never what the experience argument was based on. It couldn’t be considering John McCain has the same amount of executive experience as Obama… none.

Republicans have become the party of talking points, photo ops, and gimmicks.

  • 186. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

    Face,

First of all, we have always cited “executive” experience as an important component.

Secondly, Palin is the #2 person, your inexperienced buffoon is the #1 person.

    Get it?

  • 187. Peace_is_good_for_economy  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Neocon, you wanna make the election about debating and speaking skills? Tell McCain to give his concession speech right now to avoid further embarassment.

  • 188. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

More from Clinton supporters … ya gotta love it.

John McCain just delivered the death blow to the Obama Movement and the DNC. Goodbye Howard.

Millions of Democrats will now vote for McCain with Happiness and Pride.

This is a devastating day for the Democratic Party and I am DEVASTATED.

I agree with everyone — Sarah Palin seems like an excellent, competent governor as well as being a gracious, brave, and sincere person. I’d LOVE to have a beer with her.

But honestly, HOW DARE THE DNC HAVE BROUGHT US TO THIS? HOW DARE THEY?

I always knew McCain would beat Obama, now I know it will be a LANDSLIDE.

Folks, we could lose Congress with this.

SO — vote for McCain/Palin with joy in your hearts. How can I say otherwise? She was very classy to acknowledge Hillary and Ferraro. McCain was very brave and classy to choose her.

Howard and Obama have now succeeded at not only losing us the White House, but they have actually brought us to the brink of irrelevancy for the Democratic Party altogether.

We MUST STAY UNITED AS DEMOCRATS. Even if we are voting McCain/Palin.

Played like a piano. Thanks so much Howard.

  • 189. Faceplant  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

“Did you watch the Saddleback interviews, when McCain beat Obama like a rented mule?”

I don’t know about him, but me, like the majority of the population, didn’t really give a rats (expletive deleted) about the Saddleback “showdown”.

That said, you realize that your candidate is the person who thinks 50 dollars an hour is almost slave wages. Nuff said.

  • 190. Peace_is_good_for_economy  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Also, neocon, McCain is a million years old. It is very probable that she in fact, will become the #1. So, her experience does matter.

But you will continue to ignore this.

    you genius, you.

  • 191. neocon  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Democrats have become the party of morons, idiots, sycophants, whiners and basically lazy mindless minions.

  • 192. jayhay  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Neo hearts his passive-aggressive zen act… you just want to pinch him it’s so cute!

But #180 nailed it - she’s the only person McC could find that was shorter than him…

  • 193. Peace_is_good_for_economy  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Kimberly, I am sad for you. I am sad that you have chosen such a bleak, hopeless, destructive future for america. I am sorry that you will vote against the democrats simply because McCain chose a woman.

Obama likes to say we are a better country than this, but I am beginning to think that he might be wrong.

  • 194. Faceplant  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:19 pm

“First of all, we have always cited “executive” experience as an important component.”

Pretty funny considering your candidate doesn’t have any.

“Secondly, Palin is the #2 person, your inexperienced buffoon is the #1 person.”

So the Vice President does not need to be qualified to become the President of the United States? Especially when your #1 is a 72 year old man with a history of cancer problems?

Now, keep in mind I’m not saying Palin isn’t qualified. I’m just going off of your own logic. If you think Obama isn’t qualified, then certainly Palin isn’t qualified.

Do you realize how completely ridiculous you sound?

  • 195. kimberly4victory  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:19 pm

You didn’t give a rat’s (expletive deleted) because OBAMA GOT HIS KICKED at Saddleback.

    LOL!

He is doomed without a teleprompter. Uhm. Uh. Uhm.

  • 196. Nate  |  August 29th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

nothing more to say, mccain said it. if he was being metacognitive, recognizing that such a comment would be used to misrepresent him, he shouldn’t have said it. but he did — so, are you lower class or middle class? do you make 1 to 5 million or more than 5 million per year?
