Rangel Should Step Down
September 10th, 2008 at 10:40pm Matt Margolis
Democrats “promised” to lead the most open, honest, and ethical congress in history.
They’ve been the complete opposite.
The latest demonstration of their ethical hypocrisy revolves around Charles Rangel.
Back in July, it was revealed that Rangel had 4 rent-stabilized apartments in Harlem.
More recently, it was discovered that Rangel wasn’t declaring income he was earning from a rental property he owns in the Dominican Republic. Rangel claimed ignorance and blamed his accountant and his wife.
There’s a real dark ethical cloud hanging over Charles Rangel… even the Democratic National Committee chose to give back $100,000 in contributions they get from him.
Now Republicans want him to step down from his chairmanship pending the results of the ethics investigation against him.
Of course, the party-before-country Democrats in the House, led by Nancy Pelosi, aren’t holding themselves to the same standard they held Republicans to back in 2006, and aren’t doing a thing about Rangel.
“Given Chairman Rangel’s continuing ethical lapses, he cannot effectively carry out his duties as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee,” House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco). “[Y]ou, as speaker of the House, must insist that Rep. Rangel step down.”
Democrats countered that Rangel himself has requested investigations, now ongoing, into the matters and that Republicans have been much more lenient with members of their own party facing ethics or even FBI investigations.
“The American people would be better served if Republicans would stop playing politics and allow the bipartisan ethics committee to do its job,” said Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami.
Now isn’t that a laugh! Democrats have been playing politics with the ethics process for years, and all Republicans are saying is that Democrats should hold themselves to the same standard.
See, this is why we need to elect John McCain. Democrats will NEVER hold members of their own party accountable. Here in Western New York, a Democracy Assemblyman won his primary election despite revelations a few weeks ago that he had affairs with at least two interns. Meanwhile another Assemblyman, a Republican, who got in trouble last year for spending the night sleeping on the floor at an intern’s home, and was defeated in his primary election. Go figure.
Democrats always put party first.

looks like the pit bulls are on this one…

None of this seems to bother to Pelosi, who vowed to implement ethics reform when she took over as speaker with her infamous “maybe it takes a woman to clean house” rhetoric. Through a spokesman, Madam Speaker said the call to oust Rangel is a ploy to divert attention from the continuing fallout of the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and its culture of corruption.

need be that two birds go down with one stone…very poor judgement on the part of pelosi….

If you got something, indict. That’s how it works. Everything else is just post-intestinal-cow-chow.
Meanwhile, while Republicans spin like whirling dervishes, al-Qaeda and the Taliban are stronger than ever under Bush’s watch.
Is that what Bush meant by “bring ‘em on”?

Conregressive,
again with the liberal mantra, group X is stronger under Bush.
How can people live with terrorist attack after terrorist attack by a group that is unstoppable and growing day-by-day?
Oh wait, this is reality……..
There is only two Presidents that allowed terrorism to grow unchecked - both were more interested in Nobel Peace Prizes and their legacies rather than doing their job. Hint: they were not Republicans.
loser.

Con, that article was penned by SAEED SHAH, who writes for The Guardian. They’ve not been a supporter of the US on much of anything. I think your source leave too much to be desired to take you seriously.
It seems to me it’s the left that won’t do a thing, but work in lock step to cover their own concerning ethics problems. But, you make a list of Dems that have stepped down over proven ethical issues over the last 20 years and I’ll match that with a list Republican that stepped down, not over an ethical breach, but over the mere appearance of ethical impropriety.

I agree he should step down for ethics violiation, just as I agree that Palin should quit the race and resign for Ethics Violiations. I believe the greatest mis-justice however is the fact that Jefferson won re-election in Louisiana. he should had been thrown in jail. I am totally disgusted with the Demo-publicans. However I am still writing in Hillary Clinton’s name.
Below I want to provide you all with URL’s for the lawsuit against Foreigner (SP This is what my spell checker said this word should be spelled and since I am a horrible speller I have to depend on it) Obama. I hope Matt and Mark don’t mind but I want everyone to know about this lawsuit because if Pretender Obama looses he gets deported.

Let it be known that Magnum does not support due process, which even conflicts with the party he supports. If he, and his ilk had their way, they would impose their own form a fascism.
People like him should never be allowed to have power.

Magnum Stupidity,
When Sarah Palin commits an ethics violation then that would be a reason to resign. Unfortunately for you, those so-called ethics violations have been debunked and proven untrue.
Pelosi should resign for not enforcing her “most ethical congress in history” promise. She has proven to be not honorable, not truthful and a a far cry from a leader.

I do not support Nancy the stupid. I support her democratic challenger. There is a good chance that sweet little Nancy will loose her job come November because she failed to impeach george.

Mags,
But you do support guilt before proven guilty, especially if it is someone you disagree with.
How would you like someone like that in power?
