Well, the first thing I want to say is that I am glad my wife-to-be and I are not going to Bermuda.
The second thing I want to say is, this is just another example of incompetence from the Obama administration, as their desire to give Gitmo prisoners freedom and luxurious vacation blinded them tno some standard diplomatic protocol.
Senior aides to President Barack Obama accompanied four Uighur prisoners as they were flown from Guantanamo Bay to the British colony of Bermuda, without the UK being informed, it was revealed yesterday.
In an escalating diplomatic row over the transfer of the former terrorist suspects, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the transfer with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in what was said to be an uneasy conversation. Privately Whitehall officials accused America of treating Britain, with whom it is supposed to have a “special relationship”, with barely disguised contempt.
One senior official said: “The Americans were fully aware of the foreign-policy understanding we have with Bermuda and they deliberately chose to ignore it. This is not the kind of behaviour one expects from an ally.”
Perhaps one of Obama’s defenders here can explain how this improves our image in the world?

Bush tried this same thing, but Bermuda wouldn’t cooperate with the boy-king…
From CNN:
The four were twice cleared for release — once by the Bush administration and again this year, according to a Justice Department statement.

First of all, the idiot currently in the White House has no intention of “improving” relationships with our allies. In fact, I beleive he holds the same contempt for them as he does for America.
Secondly, our foes have now fully realized what a complete fool, and weak man, Obama is. NK is in full nuclear development mode, with no fear of Obama, and even China is now backing them. Iran continues to thumb their nose at the messiah, and AQ is stepping up attacks in Iraq waiting for Obama to tuck tail and run.
Soon, the voting electorate will realize what a fraud Obama is.
Bush tried this same thing, but Bermuda wouldn’t cooperate with the boy-king…
More likely, Bush had more respect for our allies.

After that foaming bit of nonsense I can only conclude you are nothing more than an angry white man who fears that his taxes will go up and his years are running short. You aren’t alone there just aren’t enough of you left alive to oust the Liberals in power. Bloody shame, wot?
wow lead,
That was quite the ignorant presumption on your part, though it is par for course with you. I am not at all in fear of higher taxes, I have sheltered my money very well, and don’t plan on giving Obama anything. My doctors tell me that I have many years ahead of me, and considering the Gallup poll today which clearly indicates American’s are much more conservative than liberal:

I can only conclude that your post is an angry reaction to what is soon becoming your reality.
And thanks for pointing out what my skin color is, I can always count on your racism. However, I am more ecru than white, just FYI.
I’m almost tempted to get sent to Gitmo myself. Then I can be sent to somewhere really nice with the US government picking up the tab to set me up on a great island where I can spend my life surfing, combing the beach, eating sea food, and just chilling.
Don’t care WHAT you think is “more likely”… fact is Bush tried to dump these guys FIRST, and no one would take them from his bloody hands, failing at virtually everything he tried to do. Once again, this is a case of the adults cleaning up after the babies spent eight years pooping on the carpet.
bozo,
Thanks for that mature, “opinionated” response. We can always count on you.
Wouldn’t have had to try to dump the terrorists if you lefties hadn’t sided with them over the interests of the United States, bozo.
Matt asks:
“Perhaps one of Obama’s defenders here can explain how this improves our image in the world?”
For one thing, ceasing to detain innocent people for years on end without charge is an unambigous good. That conservatives are unable to grasp this is simple fact speaks volumes.
Most people don’t realize this, but there’s a big difference between vacationing on an island and living on one. I do not envy the Uigurs.
“No moron, not shooting them on the spot like was done in WW2 speaks volumes for the GOP”
Typical uninformed conservative whose homicide fantasiis are confused with reality and history. First, please cite an example where the US had a policy during WWII of “shooting on the spot” partisans or ressistance fighters – and this has nothing to with spies. In fact, I wonder if you could cite an example where the US had a policy of summary executions of anyone at all.
When you are done with that, please expain what the hell that has to do with the detention of people in Guantanamo who are not now, nor have they ever been accused of carrying arms agains the united states.
Incidentally as it relates to WWII, the Germans and the Russians both routinely extracted harsh revenge against both partisans and civilian populations from which they came. (Of course the US did no such thing). It is telling that you seem to wish the US should carry themselves today more like those brutal, totalitarian regimes. Thankfully most decent Americans do not agree.
hello,
First of all, as bozo clearly pointed out, Bush did try and release the Uigurs, but no country wanted them, not even China, or Afghanistan, claiming that they do indeed belong to a violent sect.
So maybe you’ll open your house to them, right? I mean, what better way to demonstrate your compassion and understanding, and America’s leading role in human rights.
What’s your address? They’ll be right over.
The reason that no country wanted them is that no country wanted to piss off the Chinese.
I can cite many instances of when the US military shot Nazis on sight. I can also cite many instances of where the US Army shot POWs b/c they couldn’t feed them. It was easier to shoot them as the enemy than to let them starve. I can also cite where airplanes killed 35,000 German kids in one week without caring at all. I can cite archival history all year long. I can also cite my father who fought in the European theater. You may not like to hear it, but it happened.
I can cite where Progressive and their band of thugs during the Wilson admin would beat and torture suffragettes. No one loved watching the torture of suffragettes more than Wilson who often visited the prisons where they were held. My grandmother was one of those suffragettes.
When you deny archiaval history and eyewitness accounts you revise history. You make history a lie. You can not pick and chose the history you like or want to be right. And you can NOT deny it was a DEM who dropped 2 A bombs on innocent Japanese civilians.
and considering the Gallup poll today which clearly indicates American’s are much more conservative than liberal:
Uh-oh, cluster, looks like Gallup has gone “conservative.” lol
Once again, this is a case of the adults cleaning up after the babies spent eight years pooping on the carpet.
Gee, blozo, now the “adults” are pooping on the carpet, and you lemmings are calling it “filet mignon…”
Poor baby. Outwitted by a 22-year-old again?
With regard to these former Gitmo detainees – they were determined not to be enemy of the United States by the Bush administration. But Bush would not allow them to be sent back to China, because the Chinese would have really tortured them (treatment that would make waterboarding seem like a walk in the park). He also went to our allies to try and find a country that would take them – and no one wanted them. Of course, he was not offering to pay for their stay, only asking the other countries to take them in. Obama seems to have succeeded because he is paying Bermuda.
Then how is it that you are utterly incapable of even pretending to address my point?
