President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks.
“I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it,” Mr. Obama said in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, according to excerpts released by CBS News…
Which is entirely BS – Social Security has its own funding mechanism and there is currently more than enough money coming in to it to ensure that the checks go out on the 3rd. Obama is just trying to scare oldsters in to putting pressure on the GOP – hoping that such pressure will force the GOP to cave in on a debt ceiling increase without any fundamental budget reform.
Now Obama’s cards are entirely on the table – to preserve Big Government is his only goal. That we are heading towards bankruptcy and renewed recession doesn’t matter. That we can’t afford tax hikes and must cut spending is unimportant. What is important to Obama is that the pork he has spread around his constituencies since 2009 continue. Think about it – we are spending at least a trillion more per year since Obama took office. We can dispense with that additional trillion and still have all the money we need for social services, defense, etc, etc, etc. It is just that Obama doesn’t want to give up that extra money he and his Democrats piled on when they held the Congressional majority. This is the core of Obamunism: piles of money for everyone who helps elect liberals.
Hold firm, GOP – don’t blink. Let the Democrats carry Big Government in to 2012 all by themselves. Even if by some chance the American people choose Obama and his Democrats, then at least we will have gone down fighting for what is right…but my belief is that the majority are seeing through the scam, and we will reap the reward if we hold firm.

One of my favorite Obama scare tactics is the oft-heard phrase “End Medicare AS WE KNOW IT”.
This is supposed to strike fear into the hearts of Americans.
It just reminds me of other scary statements that could have been uttered throughout our history.

Around these parts, everything was sunshine and lollipops until Obama came along, and if you even hint that reality is different from their preferred alternative, then the wingers here will get very upset. Talking about the lousy things Bush did is very highly frowned upon here at the former Blogs for Bush.
Yet as awful as the Loony Left tries to repaint the Bush years, we would happily return to the economic growth, low unemployment, support of our allies, and a president who loves and respects our country.
We would happily trade in our huge cadre of unvetted radical Leftist czars for the Bush cabinet and advisers. We would consider ourselves lucky to have a Secretary of the Treasury who is not a tax cheat.
More to the point, when we did disagree with President Bush (which we did, quite often) the disagreement led most of us to a stronger and deeper understanding of the Constitution, the relationship between where we veered away from it and subsequent cracks in our system, and the need to abandon the touchy-feely social engineering experiments of the past couple of decades.
We fought with him when he was not in line with true conservative values, which made us examine those values and their foundation. We did not have to vilify him or demonize him as a person, as did the Left, because our disagreements were not emotional, but based on objective differences of objective opinion. And questioning some of his conservative values made us clarify our own.
Ah, yes….good times.
What I find so interesting is that so many who voted for Barry are now feeling the same way. Barry’s only remaining fan club is the ardent little group on their sixth set of presidential knee pads, still yearning for a chance to be in The Presence so they may bask in his reflected glory.

Obama went too far. In 1990’s President William Clinton was able to keep Disability Checks going. I do not understand why obama the spineless one can’t do the same. Many of my friends are now worried that they will be homeless in August, one of the hottest days of the year.

Clinton dealt with a government shutdown due to a lack of a budget and Congress was debating a continuing resolution and they were not approaching a debt ceiling limit.

But in both cases, Social Security will not be interferred with due to the FACT that Social Security is not shutdown checks do go out and their have their own source of funding. Funding that will be coming in when the “deadline” for “default” passes.

If we continue to follow this course, in very little time, there won’t be enough money to send out any checks period. Unless, of course, more money is printed, but then it won’t buy anything, having been diluted past the point of worthlessness. Unfortunately, “quantitative easing” has already spawned real inflation, where it hurts the working class the most, at the store and the pump. Still, the morons insist they need a trillion dollars in new taxes, which will only further impoverish the people.
I have been around for quite a few years, but I believe this is the most disgusting thing a president has ever done. This guy has ice running through his veins. He is truly despicable. I do not know how this is going to end, but everyday the heat gets turned up a little more. I just hope Boehner does not blink. As for the McConnell thing, I never trusted him anyway. How can it be that ANYONE managed to miss the detailed explanations of how the Social Security funds are not only NOT in a “lockbox” but really just tossed into a basket with all the other federal revenue, where those funds are scooped out as needed to meet various financial needs (and fill a few pockets).
