Easier to ask when was I last on a plane, period. It was about a year and a half ago, maybe two. I hate to fly and most of the places I go are not much longer trips if I drive, by the time I factor in the time it takes to get to the airport, from the destination airport to where I really want to go, etc. I have a great car, audio books, and a cooler with iced water and snacks. Not much attraction in being jammed into a metal tube crammed with people.

I think the link 2008 means it occurred in 2008.
The other evidence is gang violence between rival extremists in Pakistan. The suicide bomber was actually trying to kill a member of the Taliban. This is similar to typical violence in Juarez Mexico where every day one group of drug dealers kills opponents in a rival group, sometimes by beheading. Often in Juarez the gangs resort to drive by shootings which also kill innocent strangers but I wouldn’t classify this as terrorism as much as thug violence.
The really unusual thing that separates the violence between extreme Moslems in Pakistan and inner city gang violence is, in the US one rarely hears about a suicide bomber in a gang turf war.

Breivik is a conservative nationalist based upon his words and actions. Like many of the conservatives here he has a fear of Islamic domination of “Western” culture and nations. His Norway for Norwegians is no different from your fear of Latinos or Muslims “taking over the USA.” Neocon, tiredoflibbs, cluster all are just like Breivik in ideology you just aren’t willing to act violently upon your political beliefs. There isn’t a sliver of light’s difference between any of you and Breivik regarding your feelings toward multiculturalism.

The Norwegian Labour Party is leftist in ideology and as such believes in freedom and civil rights for all people. This is something that Breivik and you cannot stand because it takes your ability to feel a smug control over the lives of others away.

We don’t give him any credit for doing anything positive because he hasn’t done anything positive. Even killing bin Laden turns to ashes because of the mess he’s making elsewhere in foreign and military affairs. The man is a complete an utter failure as a President…he can’t do it. It was a gigantic mistake to elect him – a self-centered man with no practical experience in affairs turns out not to be good Presidential material.
And Mark, not only does the lord now know what attacked Norway, but so do you and every other conservative who has the beliefs of anti-Multiculturalism, anti-civil rights for the LGBTQ community and anti-Socialism have espoused here. I just skimmed all these comments, but what I mostly got out of it was either Islamic hate, Christian extremists or how Norwegians are naive and stupid.
We are a people. We aren’t Anders Behring Breivik. We’ve created ourselves a country where the police is unarmed, where we for the most part can safely walk the streets and that we have nothing to fear. In my opinion you all have rights to dislike muslims or make them guilty without charge: but here in Norwya most of them are great. When the bomb they were out helping, Muslim kids were shot to death alongside their Norwegian brothers and sisters. If you’re muslim or not doesn’t matter much: we’re all family here. We aren’t that many.
We don’t respond with hate. Over one fifth of the population showed up all over the country to show their condolancese, the prime minister spoke to a whole sea of people – more than 200 000 of them – in complete silence. When the speach was over no-one clapped, they raised their roses. The churches are open, the town halls, and I truly believe that soon Norway have to put out the biggest order for roses and candles ever, because we’re about to run out.
I hear so much that Norwegians are cold an reserved – but we’re not. And we’re not stupid or naive: we’re just democratic. We fight terror with love, to end violence with violence is like going to a brothel for a hug: it’s not going to get you anywhere.
A saying goes around in Norway now, saying “If one man can show so much hate, then imagine how much love we can show together”, and it’s true. So end your accusations: we know it was a well misunderstood Norwegian. We can not stand for his actions. We stand for peace.

They are incorrigible. Combine that with their righteous indignation over any subject that does not adhere to their dictatorial authoritarianism and their smug attitude towards those who challenge their attitudes can result in the psychotic lashing out that your country experienced. My heart bleeds for you all.
You can never “waste your time” explaining. I don’t mind they not listening, but it’s important that they hear it.

We’re all sympathetic to the Norwegian people, but this is also not the time to just wring hands, nor is it the time to try and pick out what is right about Norway. Something is very wrong.
Norway is a prosperous nation where immense social services are lavished on the population…and yet this young man, born in 1979, decided that he had to massacre his fellow Norwegians. Suppose he really does harbor a hatred of Moslems…why didn’t he single them out? Whatever the stated cause of his rage, what he hates is his own kind…he lashed out at you and yours because of what you are. Why?
Where did this hatred and despair come from? The ultimate fate of the Norwegian people will come from how you answer that.
