From Yahoo Finance:
Putting pressure on an already lousy job market, the mass layoff is making a comeback. In the past week, Cisco, Lockheed Martin and Borders announced a combined 23,000 in job cuts. (See: Another Retailer Bites the Dust: Borders Doomed by Amazon Deal, Davidowitz Says)
Those announcements follow 41,432 in planned cuts in June, up 11.6% from May and 5.3% vs. a year earlier, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
Meanwhile, state and local governments have cut 142,000 jobs this year, The WSJ reports, and Wall Street is braced for another round of cutbacks. This week, Goldman Sachs announced plans to let go 1000 fixed-income traders…
As I’ve said before, I rate my chances of having my job by January 1st at 50/50. Things are bad and getting worse…and getting worse all around the world. China’s economy is crawling with bad debt and massively overheating. Outside of Germany, Europe’s economy has already started to contract and Germany is only a bit above water. Risk of default is spreading around the world. Recession stares us in the face, and behind it the prospect of full blown depression.
Only a radical change of course can save the day…and Obama, I believe, doesn’t even suspect there is a problem.
HAT TIP: Hot Air
“Only a radical change of course can save the day…and Obama, I believe, doesn’t even suspect there is a problem.” Hardly. bams knows what is going on and why. This is what he wants. How else can you “fundamentally change America” under a free market system. Send as many people to walfare lines as possible and play the class warfare game.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.
Each great empire goes through three phases. First are the conquerors. Our founding fathers had their influence from 1775 to about 1820. They put the united States on way to greatness. Then comes the tame thunder bureaucracy which lasted from about 1820 until 1913. These men secured place on the world stage for our country. Then come the wasters. Jan 1913. The ability of the federal government to lay a tax on Individual is enshrined in the Constitution. We are indeed “voting ourselves largess” from the public trough.
How much longer can it last. No matter how much money is spent for “the public good” it will never be enough for the caspers, thomases, sunnys. montyburns, et al. How will it take them that to get their revolution going. To just walk into yours and mine houses and take “their fair share”
For those progressives who think I am lying about “your revolution” please check out multiple threads on democrat underground, dailey kos, little green footballs, and many more. It is your side that is demanding revolution, not mine.
They demand either a hard revolution or the soft revolution of “fundamentally transforming the nation” through voter manipulation and propaganda to gain seats of power and then expanding that power while dangling distractions so people don’t pay attention to what is really going on.
The only way the second type of revolution can succeed is by controlling information, as shown by the selective coverage of events by the Complicit Agenda Media.
Either way they’re going to get a hard revolution in the end. They’re either going to lose their patience when they realize they can’t fool and manipulate enough of the population to either ignore or go along with their plans, or they’ll get to a certain point in the “fundamental transformation” that the Right will say, “no more” and rise up and fight. In neither case would I want to be a Leftist in this country, but their destiny is essentially in their own hands.
spook, it may just be wishful thinking on my part, but I hope there is a middle ground—one where the wishy-washy, take-no-principled-position-but-wait-to-see-what-everyone-else-does “moderates” and even some who vote Left but who lack a true ideological commitment to the reality of Leftism start to realize the Unintended Consequences of their political ignorance and/or spinelessness and start a shift back to sanity.
We may be approaching that tipping point now. As hard as the Complicit Agenda Media are trying to reframe the Congressional debates as Right-wing obstructionism, I think the messages are starting to sink in.
“Revenue” is just a weasel word for “taxes”.
You don’t get out of debt by borrowing
It is up to the people to rein in the reckless spending habits of Congress
The President is not the boss of us
It is the Left playing Russian (how appropriate!) Roulette with the nation not the Right
When your President goes on TV and lies to you, there is something wrong.
We know it has to get worse before it gets better, and the only question is whose version of “worse” is worse—the Left’s or the Right’s.
Ask the average leftist what kind of government we have. The averge lefty will say the
United States is a democracy. You know it, I know it, and they know it. Our founding fathers
were probably more scared of democracy than they were of the monarchy.
We never have lived in a democracy and that is what our founding fathers intended. Anyone
with at least two braincells know we live in a represenative republic. This leaves out the
vast majority of the left side of the aisle.
Our system was set up to protect the minority from the tryanny of the majority.
Unfortunately back in Jan of 1913 we gave that power away. Look where the left get the
majority of thier funding. Is it from that nazi george soros? Although he does give a lot of
money to leftwing groups and causes, the answer is no. The left now is mostly financed by
the United States taxpayer.
What is going to happen if thier main source of money is cut off? Well they could quietly go
away I suppose but how many of us think that will happen? I know, dumb question. It is my
opinion that the protest will start out peaceful, stay that way for awhile, then start to
escalate into full blown rioting.
Rioting worse than anything we have ever seen before in this country. Rioting that will make
what happen in Watts and Los Angelos look like a walk in the park. This will happen in every
major liberal stronghold accross the country. They will destroy and loot everything in thier
path.
Everyone will have a choice to make. A side to pick. I have made my choice have YOU?
Now maybe you understand why I will skip the presidential ballot again in 2012 if republicans decide to nominate another progressive for President. I will not play even a small role in destroying the country I served for so many years for a few extra dollars in my pocket.
This comment box is really messed up. Does it jump around on anyone else you type a comment longer than the default space?
GMB, sometimes I have to type half a line or so that is below the visible box, till it scrolls up. It is really annoying. I can’t see what I am typing. I have learned to start off with just hitting the ‘enter’ key several times to move the cursor down, then the up-arrow key to move the cursor back up to the top. This keeps a space at the bottom of the visible box.
Does this help?
I have tried that. My screen just jumps like mad. I don’t write that many long posts so I guess i will just type out the long ones on a text document and copy/paste them. Is kind of annoying though.
My screen doesn’t jump but sometimes my posts are put in the wrong place. Even when I hit the REPLY button under a post, my own might show up several posts above it.
There appear to be a few glitches with the new format. I also have the problem with the bottom line being off the screen when I get to a certain point. Tonight it asked me to log in but didn’t recognize my password. When I log in as a guest it inserts the name retiredspook89.
Just a test
That’s what I thought. If you post as a guest, you can enter any screen name you want.
Spook you can use any name yawnt even if you are logged in
GMB,
Did you have to get a new password when they changed the format last week? I did, but now it doesn’t seem to recognize it. When I tried to post as a guest, it automatically plugged in my correct email address and my screen name and link to gravitar.com. Something’s weird.
No I did not. I have no clue what is going on but it is screwy.
GMB, I love “yawnt”.
GMB, I have no idea if it will make any difference, but you might try changing browsers. I was having a lot of trouble with Explorer dropping web sites, so I downloaded Firefox and it worked a lot better. I now use Firefox and, sometimes, Google Chrome.
This will be the third or fourth major push back against the Progressives since the first with Wilson (1913), then IIRC, Roosevelt (Constitutional Amendment), Johnson (Great Society) being the most prevalent. It is once again time of the sleeping giant to awaken and this time to send these cockroaches to their proverbial death rather than scattering.
