Obama/Boehner Cage Match!

One might think that the dueling addresses might lay out the differences – except we already know what they are, and we further know that the only reason we don’t have resolution is because Obama and the Democrats won’t give up Big Government.  Whether there will be a shift in Obama’s position remains to be seen – I highly doubt it, but I bet they’ve crafted some poll-tested sound bites to try and move the debate Obama’s way.  Trouble is, I doubt that most people are really paying attention to Obama at this point.

As for Boehner, we can expect he’ll just re-state the obvious:  the GOP won’t go for tax hikes and insists upon real spending reductions.  This is core, GOP belief and it is backed by the majority of the American people.

How does this end?  Beats me – but unless the GOP caves, we’re going to come out on top.

UPDATE: Allen West backs Boehner:

I will support the new debt deal- it has enough of what I need including no tax hikes, spending caps and a step toward a balanced budget.

That should help Boehner with the TEA Party wing.

UPDATE II:  And we’ll see if Obama’s speech changes this

    CNN Political Producer Shannon Travis
Ames, Iowa (CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has fresh bragging rights after picking up what is surely a coveted endorsement on Monday.
Cory Adams – the Republican chairman of Story County in Iowa – endorsed the Texas congressman’s presidential bid at a campaign event in Ames, Iowa.

That’s significant for a few reasons. Ames is the largest city in Story County, home to over 50,000 residents. And it is in this city that a widely-watched showdown between the GOP presidential candidates will play out on August 13. The Ames Straw Poll will test the candidates’ popularity and could be a sign of their electability.

    RON PAUL 2012!

Obama came out with the poll tested rhetoric and blame, and Boehner came out swinging. Fun night so far

    “…but unless the GOP caves…”

More precisely – unless McConnell fails to hold his caucus together. Reid needs to peel away 9 RINOs to advance his plan. If McConnell does his job, and Boehner does his job … one plan left standing. Capiche?

meanwhile back at the raunch….the grifters live it up…………

    Dear American Taxpayer

For only the second time in my adult life, I am

not ashamed of my country. I want to thank the hard working American

people for paying $242 thousand dollars for my vacation in Spain .

My daughter Sasha, several long-time family

friends, my personal staff and various guests had a wonderful time.

Honestly, you just haven’t lived until you have stayed in a $2,500.00 per

night private 3-story villa at a 5-Star luxury hotel.

Thank you also for the use of Air Force Two and

the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged along to be sure we were safe and

cared for at all times. By the way, if you happen to be visiting the

Costa del Sol, I highly recommend the Buenaventura

Plaza restaurant in Marbella ; great lobster with rice and

oysters! I’m ashamed to admit the lobsters we ate in Martha’s Vineyard

were not quite as tasty, but what can you do if you’re not in Europe , you have to just grin and bear it?

Air Force Two (which costs $11,351 per hour to

operate according to Government Accounting Office reports) only used 47,500

gallons of jet fuel for this trip and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons

of CO2. These are only rough estimates, but they are close. That’s

quite a carbon footprint as my good friend Al Gore would say, so we must ask

the American citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and drive

less too, so we can lessen our combined carbon footprint.

I know times are hard and millions of you are

struggling to put food on the table and trying to make ends meet. So I

do appreciate your sacrifices and do hope you find work soon.

I was really exhausted after Barack took our

family on a luxury vacation in Maine

a few weeks ago. I just had to get away for a few days.

    Cordially,

    Michelle (Moochelle) Obama

P.S. Thank you as well for the $2 BILLION

    dollar trip to India

    from which we just returned!

P.SS. Thank you, too, for that vacation trip to

Martha’s Vineyard ; it was fabulous. And

thanks for that second smaller jet that took our dog Bo to Martha’s

Vineyard so we and the children could have him with us while we

were away from the White House for eleven days. After all, we couldn’t take

him on Air Force One because he might pee on some wires or something.

P.SSS. Oh, I almost forgot to say thanks also

for our two-week trip to Hawaii

at Christmas. That 7,000 square foot house was great!

    Love ya!

Remember we all have to share the pain of these

economic times equally! Love to -redistribute-

    share- the wealth.

I have a question. In 1950 gold was 40 dollars an ounce. A pack of cigarettes cost 25 cents. You could buy 160 packs for one ounce of gold. Today gold is 1600 dollars an ounce. On average a pack of cigerettes cost 5 dollars. An ounce of gold can buy 320 packs of cigarettes.
What does this say about the value of gold compared to the value of fiat paper money?

This comparison can also apply to various other comsumer commodities but not all. Just for those of you who want to nitpick.

      GMB,

It depends on what you what you want to buy. We’re experiencing diametrically opposed dynamics that are tending to disguise what’s actually happening in the economy. We’re seeing inflation in the things we need, i.e. food & energy, and deflation in the things we want, i.e. smart phones, i-pads, laptop computers & flat screen TV’s.

A new car was $1500 – it would take about 38 ounces of gold to buy, now it would take about 18 ounces.

That is why you have to compare a basket of goods. It is my understanding that since 1950 inflation was such that $1 then would be about $8.40 now (correct me if I’m way off).

That would mean it would take $40 then to get that ounce of gold, whereas that $40 X the $8.40 would only get you 1/5 of an ounce of gold now.

Could it be that gold is just a commodity that is like a car, it’s demand value is increasing vs. supply beyond everything else?
