Not satisfied with how going to Martha’s Vineyard will look to average Americans struggling to make ends meet, the President went for broke and also got himself a couple of massively expensive campaign buses…made in Canada!
I know, I know – it probably was the Secret Service which insisted upon a particular type of bus, and it may well be that the Canadian company is best to make them. But a little bit of thought needs to go on here…while Americans are having trouble finding work, it just isn’t sensible for an America President to buy foreign goods. Period. End of story. No, you don’t get to say “but” and come up with an explanation. It doesn’t matter. It simply should not have been done. Either buy an American bus, or don’t buy one at all.
This is a stupid, self-inflicted wound. And it doesn’t stand alone – the President’s frequent golf dates and the First Lady’s massively lavish vacations have fed in to this “let ’em eat cake” perception. Over the past three years it has grown upon the American mind that the President doesn’t know and doesn’t care how average Americans live…this trip to the refuge of the super-rich after a short ride around “fly-over America” in a Canadian bus has set the perception in stone: the President is callously insensitive.
Lots of things can happen between now and the election next year…but it is quite possible that even now the people have just tuned him out. He was a mistake, not to be repeated. And the sooner we’re rid of him, the better.

Yeah, yeah, it was all for the greater good, right. A lot of people were hurting in the wake of Enron and Global Crossing. And I promise, even if you didn’t realize this, it never mattered an iota to Cheney or Bush how average Americans lived back then, either.

Denny, the economic times are different (worse now) PLUS Democrats (and the obAMATEUR) were very critical of Bush vacations, especially his golf outings at the beginning of the Afghan war. Bush promptly stopped those golf outings, but Democrats (even you drones) make exceptions to the obAMATEUR’s.
Also, the obAMATEUR has made several speeches, pressers and comments which contained the words “I(we) will not rest until we turn around this economy, or start job creation etc etc.”
Denny, if you are going to whine at least try to remember that obAMATEUR has set the stage for criticism and that he, his fellow looting Democrats and you drones were not so forgiving when the other party is in the White House.

You are really missing the point – it is this President’s actions right now, now Dick Cheney’s actions in 2003 which are driving the debate. This all started with sending Michelle and the girls over to Spain on an outrageously expensive vacation.
This looks just awful…I don’t mind because it is Obama self-destructing.

More would be gained from members of the GOP working with the president than remarking about something as trivial as the man with the most difficult job in the world wanting to take some time to relax.
Mister Obama will be working the entire time he is in Martha’s Vineyard. Were he unable to perform his duties as President he would have to transfer his powers to the VP per the Constitution.
No Mark, we are not missing the point. The points is that if Obama does something similar to what the Bush administration you are going to be hypocritical and condem the Obamas. It was perfectly fine for the Bushes and Cheneys to do what the did during their eight year run. You praised Bush and Cheney daily on BFB. Now, no matter what this president does you are critical.
And by the way, Obama didn’t order or buy the buses – the Secrect Service did – with one bus for the Democratic president (or candidate) and one for the Republican candidate (or president should a Republican be elected). It is the job of the SS to keep the president safe and they make the calls. Yes, I would hope that the SS could have found a US company to manufacture these buses – but they chose a Canadian company. The president had nothing to do with that decision.
If you are so strong for American manufacturing, stop supporting such companies as WalMart, AT&T, GE etc that have sent millions of jobs to foreign countires. And urge your representative to fight for jobs legislation to penalize companies that do send American jobs over seas.
Dennis: It’s about time somebody rebutted Cornhusker 4 Palin and his constant digs at our President. All presidents take vacations and since they are faced daily with all sorts of problems, they do have a right to relax and take vacations. Recently it was shown on MSNBC the number of vacations Reagan, Bush Sr. and Bush Jr took and they were many, many more than Obama has taken so far. It is really being petty to complain so much about the Obama’s and their trips.
For the record, the tour bus former President Bush used in 2004 was also made in Canada. I do not feel that Bush was insensitive in wanting the safest vehichle available and I am quite sure the decision was out of his hands.
