Just got back from a 5 mile race in Buffalo, NY. Had a little trouble with the cold and the 13,000 runners being all over the place. Still good fun.
Anyway, enjoy this day with your families!
UPDATE: I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and avoided the Black Friday insanity. Regular blogging will resume on Monday.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

President George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation: October 3, 1789
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor– and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be– That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks–for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation–for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war–for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed–for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted–for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions– to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually–to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord–To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us–and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.
Obama Leaves God Out of Thanksgiving Address
President Obama did not include any reference to God during his weekly address titled, “On Thanksgiving, Grateful for the Men and Women Who Defend Our Country.”
His remarks were void of any religious references although Thanksgiving is a holiday traditionally steeped in giving thanks and praise to God.
But nowhere in the 11-paragraph address does he mention the Almighty.
Instead, he references the Civil War, two World Wars, and the Great Depression – noting that “Americans drew strength from each other.”
However, President Abraham Lincoln said the nation drew its strength from God.
He declared as much in his 1863 Thanksgiving Day proclamation:

maybe time for an interview……
Busted: Occupy Buffalo Leader Caught in Numerous Lies About His Military Service
Christopher M. Simmance, a leader of Occupy Buffalo, told several media outlets that he served as many as three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only that, but he also claims to have been so severely injured by an RPG while in combat in Afghanistan, that he only has 10 years left to live. Army service records, however, show a very different story, reporting that Simmance was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington for three years and left active-duty in January 2001 — before the September 11 attacks.
But it gets worse.
Simmance claims he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2001 where he served in the “Valley of Elah.”
If that name sounds familiar, it is because “The Valley of Elah” refers to the site where the Biblical battle between David and Goliath took place — it is also the name of a 2007 movie starring Tommy Lee Jones.
There is no “Valley of Elah” in Afghanistan.
Army records reveal that Simmance left active-duty service with the rank of E4, or specialist, not staff sergeant, and was stationed at Fort Lewis for the duration of his active-duty service.
Amen, Brother Green, Amen!!!!
Time for a turkey nap….;)
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
GMB,
Thanks for putting today into perspective. Thanks to all those that could not be with family because of deployments. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone ~ including our trolls.
Well, sittin’ here watchin’ the Duke … that girl, she got the money for her ponies, $300 smackeroos!!! 😀
Is it true, that if you say meesha (an Indian term) to a horse, and then blow in its nose, that they will follow you around everywhere you go?
And if you believe, you really really REALLY believe, in fairies, then Tinker Bell won’t die.
A lot of a horse’s reaction to having you blow in its nose depends on what you just ate. Garlic shrimp—not so much.
My horses follow me around only when I have carrots or treats in my pocket—and I have learned not to carry horse treats in my shirt pocket 😉
Well, thanks, Amazona, for confirming that for me. I am sometimes easily persuaded by certain things that I hear … I guess it’s sorta like a chain effect, one person believes it, then another, and another, and so, you get these tales perpetuated!!! Glad you could clarify for me!!!!
I think it’s interesting how horses respond to different verbal commands, as well as touch language … how they associate rubbing certain areas with their natural bonds of affection in the wild, and when one can understand these signs that horses make when grooming them it helps to identify what is pleasant to them, and what is not.
Do you you do your own hoof-trimming, grooming etc? Do you rub their withers, under the tail, behind the ears, the eye-brows etc during these processes?
Also, Ma’am, I would like to ask a personal favor…see, I am more accustomed to working with smaller horses (miniatures/ponies), but would like to work with larger horses, the draft breeds percherons, belgians, shires, clydesdales, Breton, Boulonnais, Poitevin, Jutland, Ardennais, Italian Heavy D., etc, etc…I would very much like to work with these powerful beasts…and also would like to work with the cattle-driving species of horses – Morgans, Galicenos, Criollos, American Creme, Quarter Horses, etc, etc … I’ve never ridden a horse, but would like to learn, and participate in these activities, such as cattle-driving.
My only drawback, is that I have an innate fear of larger animals/horses, I’m afraid of being hurt by them (kicked, bitten, thrown, drive a rasp/knife through my hand/leg, or fatal injury).
What would you suggest in the way of overcoming this fear I have?!!? And could you demonstrate this in a way that I can understand…because see I’m not to knowledgeable about these things….mostly due to the fact that I’ve never really been around the larger horses.
Horses are some of the most wonderful creatures, and I really enjoy watching them in the fields grazing, doing their thing, mares, stallions/studs, foaling in the spring time…now i have witnessed these on numerous occasions with the smaller horses, donkeys, cows, and would sometimes have to intervene to free the baby from the umbilical cord and sack.
But in general, my love of these animals is to someday be able to, say, log with a team of 3,000 pound belgians or percherons…but they scare the life out of me, their movements in such close proximity, and the ground shaking when they stomp a foot, or are running/pulling a load!!!!!
I would so like to be able to have my own team to participate in a pulling match at the State Fair someday.
These are just dreams that I have, I know that I will never be able to afford the costs necessary to keep horses of this magnitude, because they consume copious amounts of grain, and hay….and one must also count in the time along with the expense to be able to spend with the horses training them…but for right now, as I say, my goal is just overcoming this innate fear that I can’t seem to brush off, of these animals…
I would appreciate your help in this matter…
Thank you!!!!
Jeremiah, fear of being injured by a horse is prudent and shows a realistic appreciation of the dangers of working with horses.
But having said this, let me tell you that like any dangerous endeavor—such as driving a car—-the danger can be limited by knowledge, skill and awareness.
The first thing to realize is that very very few horses will ever hurt a person with intent. They are not malicious creatures. But God made them, as prey animals, creatures who flee first and think later. A horse that ponders a potential threat can easily become lunch. So safety around horses begins with understanding this about them, and a high degree of situational awareness.
It is this sudden and abrupt flight response that makes them seem so scary, and a lot of your fear will go away when you understand this. Then you can learn to watch for triggers for this flight response, and be ready for it.
One thing to remember is that a horse is a noble creature, wise and brave. Think about it—–a horse’s natural enemies attack it either by landing on its neck and back to kill it (cats) or by savaging its hind legs to cripple it (wolves and coyotes). Yet they have the courage to allow us to ride on top of them, in spite of the inborn fear of having a living creature above them like this, and they allow us to handle their hind legs, lift their hind feet (making them very vulnerable) and they agree to be hitched to often noisy carts and wagons which follow closely behind them.
I suggest that the first thing you do is learn about horses—how they think, and why they do what they do. John Lyons and Pat Parelli both have excellent insights into horse psychology and have learned a lot about what makes them tick. When you understand why they do what they do, a lot of your fear will go away.
See what you can find regarding studying horses, and I will get you an email address where you can write to me and I will send you some information.
The hardest thing I had to learn, when I started riding at the age of 40, was to trust my horses. But when I did, I started to have some amazing experiences of understanding and even communication. It’s a process, but a wonderful and rewarding one.
I talk to my horses. I used to do it because I thought that the flow of words was just a soothing and reassuring sound but I have learned that many, if not all, actually understand what I am saying. I had a big strong stallion who had been roughly handled by a farrier and was terrified to have his hind feet handled, and we had to have the vet come sedate him to trim his feet. One day while the farrier and I were waiting, the farrier had me hold the horse standing in the barn aisle while he (the farrier) moved everything out of the way, in case the horse blew up. The vet was late, so I spent the time telling the horse he was just a big sissy, that we had little 6-month old girls braver than he, who could have their feet handled every day, that there was no reason for him to keep his boy parts if he was just going to produce more cowards, and so on. While I was doing this, the farrier said he would just run his hand down the horse’s leg, and to be ready for a wreck. He started to slide his hand down the horse’s haunch, and the horse glared at me with total indignation, clearly communicated an “up yours” vibe, lifted a hind foot and carefully placed it in the farrier’s hand.
After a minute the farrier asked if I could reach his tools, and I said no, but I was going to try something very dumb, and I dropped the lead line and walked over to the tools, and carried them back to the farrier. The horse never moved, just glared at me with a “You will NEVER talk to me like that again” glare, and he stood quietly with me never touching the lead line, while all four feet were trimmed.
I have dozens of stories like this, and have learned that even with horses, words matter. Project calm, and respect, and affection and trust, tell horses they are smart and brave, and tell them what you want them to do. (Save dissing horses for when they need it, as my stallion did.)
Best of luck…..
Thank you, Amazona!!! I really appreciate the information that you’ve provided!!! I find your knowledge of working with horses interesting. It simplifies matters a great deal, knowing that the horse is more a friend than a “foe,” just by acknowledging what makes them do what they do.
I don’t have much in the way of literature regarding horses, and the psychology behind the horse…I have three books in total, one which lists horse breeds, another “The Working Horse Manual” which has multiple authors, and then one on the history behind the Shire horse…but nothing on the mental stimulus of the horse.
So I would really look forward to any further assistance that you may be able to share.
I really do want to master this fear, so that I may be someday given the title ‘Horse Master’ 🙂
To give you an idea of my fear…I wanted to go to a guy’s house who has some giant percherons, he wanted me to come over and plow with him in the spring (see I do a little farrier work, and word kinda gets around)…but when I went to see them, I walk into the barn, and they come walking out of the field into the barn, and here are these gargantuan beasts that tower over my head, and I, suffice it to say, become a little weak in the knees…my goodness, their feet were as big around as dinner plates…I mean huuuugggeee!!! Big, powerful arching necks, and solid as a rock!!!! I never did go back to help him though in the Spring to plow…I was just a little too afraid to do it. Yet I still have the ambition to do so!!!
Anyway, I will go to the bookstore soon and check out some of the literature they have pertaining to horse psychology and such.
Again, thank you, I appreciate you!!!
Happy Evacuation Day! On this day in 1783, our founding fathers definitively won the revolutionary war, having driven the British out of Manhattan.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
So Obama didn’t mention god, therefore what? If he did mention god you would have believed him? Or would you just obsess on his beliefs and throw an insult his way no matter what he said? Fact is there is nothing he can say that you won’t turn into a paranoid fantasy of his total evil.
“Did they have to clean up poop, and disinfect like after the OWS?”
Was that a bigger or smaller mess to cleanup than what Bush left?
The cumulative debt of the United States in the fiscal years 2001-2007 was approximately $4.08 trillion, or about 40.8% of the total national debt at the time of that completion of approximately $10.0 trillion.
LOL, Happy thanksgiving.

Do you really think this was a witty or relevant comment? If so, you are truly delusional. But thanks for showing us the level of intelligence so prominent on the rabidly radical Left. I know we aren’t supposed to laugh at the impaired, but you guys are so bizarrely goofy, it seems OK to enjoy your stupidity.
That is the “truth” wally, to the weak-minded little drones such as yourself.
That is what you call a “talking point”. It is another one of your (and your fellow useful idiots’) most favorite slogans to use, ad nauseum, when challenged to explain why your pResident’s policies are a complete failure. Yes, they are complete failures, unemployment is still getting worse.
But, of course, why let facts blur your imagination of the annointed one in the White House.
Still waiting for you to answer the challenges posed to you in the other threads. Do you think you can get to answering them eventually?
Or will you just continue to dodge and deflect as always? Of course, you will.
“Was that a bigger or smaller mess to cleanup than what Bush left?”
Ahhhh, the mindless regurgitations of useful idiot drones.
I see you have learned the party theme very well. The “It’s Bush’s fault” has been overused. It is time that this incompetent pResident takes responsibility for his failed policies.
When obAMATEUR leaves and the next administration takes over and tries to blame obAMATEUR (and rightly so) the left will respond en masse “obama isn’t president anymore!!!!” just like they did with Clinton and his recession and his failure to deal with OBL when he had the chance.
stumpy, you are a good little drone.

Obama is a usurper:
It doesn’t matter where his Birth Certificate is hidden
Obama is ineligible and committing a dangerous and unconstitutional fraud against the American people. Apparently, most of our leaders have joined in with the fraud.
(Dr. Laurie Roth, PhD) – Is it that members of Congress and the Senate don’t know where to go and what to do regarding the endless questions of Obama’s elegability? Or, is it that given what they already know, they choose to put their traitorous heads in the ‘ratings’ and ‘international’ sand? As it is now, with the constitutional and historical truth flying in our faces for at least 3 years, Congress has revealed themselves as hopeless sell outs and traitors to the American people.
Some in media see the alarm and breadth of this nightmare for America. Lawence Sellin not only calls our Congress hopelessly corrupt but says they all must be replaced in 2012. He brilliantly points out the vivid and obvious truth of this constitutional breach. The bottom line is that Obama was never elegible to be President because his father was Kenyan and a British subject. He had dual citizenship and duel allegiance.
This should have been a ‘DUH’ moment over 3 years ago. Where has everyone been? I’ll tell you where, calling us every kind of name in the world for noticing and commenting on this for the last 3 years. This shamefully includes most of those running for the coveted GOP nomination for President.
Obama is not a natural born citizen as required by our rock solid Constitution. It shouldn’t matter where his long form birth certificate is hiding or frankly where he was born. Even though mountains of evidence point to Kenya and away from Hawaii, he is already ineligible to be our President. This is the biggest fraud and threat to our way of life our nation has ever seen.
Phil Berg, Democrat attorney from Pennsylvania was one of the very first to sue Obama for elegability reasons. He knew this was a constitutional disaster and crisis for the Democrat party, which he loved and had always been a member of. Over the last 3 years, Berg and several others have brought several dozen law suits against Obama trying to get to discovery to expose the fraud, cover ups and crisis. Shockingly and disgracefully, they have all been thrown out for lack of standing. Apparently, someone has gotten to much of the Judicial branch as well.
I enjoyed my Thanksgiving evening with thousands and thousands of people in Kansas City, MO as KC native and Emmy Award winning actor Eric Stonestreet, who currently stars as Cameron Tucker on ABC’s comedy series “Modern Family”, was the honored guest at the Plaza Lighting Ceremony. Teaming up with Eric last night was KSHB-TV’s Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak, along with his dog Stormy, to illuminate thousands of sparkling lights at the 82nd Annual KCP&L Plaza Lighting Ceremony. There are two bills currently sitting on Harry Reid’s desk. One is called the Cut, Cap and Balance bill, and the other is called the Mack/Penny bill. You might want to ask Harry why he wont even allow debate on these two pieces of legislation that would bring fiscal certainty to private markets.
Cluster,
tell us how cut cap and balance will create jobs?
Really? The primary reason employers are not hiring is because of the uncertainty of regulations and taxes. No employer knows the entire cost of Obamacare, no employer really knows if there taxes will increase or not, and no employer can get their hands around the mountain of regulations that continue to come down the line. There is so much uncertainty out there, that business’s are simply waiting it out to see what in hell Obama is going to do, and how much it’s going to cost them. Cut, Cap and Balance, will allow business’s to plan for growth, knowing what that growth will cost them. Also, repealing Obamacare will result in a lot of job growth.
Try and think these things through James before asking such a stupid question.
James,
Business’s don’t plan for one year, or even really five years. Business’s plan for 10-20 years out, especially when they are building a new plant, or signing long term leases, and projecting out TI’s, inventory, and employment levels. Also, owners of those business’s pay taxes, and liberals, such as yourself continue to demonize them and want to raise their taxes, which has them now wondering if that will happen or not. If it does happen, they may not want to risk their capital. Secondly, America has the second highest corporate tax rate in the world, and when you add in the new costs of Obamacare, which no one can really project just yet, the cost of doing business here is far greater than a lot of other places, and we are in a global environment. I don’t want to bore you anymore, I have a strong sense that you really don’t grasp this issue. Just stick to your juvenile liberal talking points, because the democrats really have things going well now, don’t they?
And furthermore bagni, you might want to ask Obama why he killed the pipeline from Canada, which would have immediately created approx. 20,000 jobs, with lots more ancillary jobs to follow. Secondly, anyone who wants a job simply needs to move to ND – oil is creating a lot of work there.

Obama Reaffirms, Celebrates Killing Small Business
John Ransom
Today is Small Business Saturday, a new holiday supported by little firms such as American Express, Google, Verizon, Dun and Bradstreet, Occupy Wall Street and –[gush, breathless] Barack Hussein Obama!
Just by the sponsors alone you can tell this is a program designed to create millions of small business jobs in places like India, China, Thailand and Mexico.
Remember, there’s no U-S-A in small business. Ok, maybe there are the letters U-S-A in small business, but why let the facts get in the way of another of Obama’s Potemkin jobs moments.
In the Orwellian world of Obama-speak, Small Business Saturday is a day when we should “reaffirm our support for America’s small business owners and their staff, and …celebrate the proud tradition of entrepreneurship they represent.”
http://finance.townhall.com/columnists/johnransom/2011/11/26/obama_reaffirms,_celebrates_killing_small_business
Cluster,
he didn’t kill the pipeline, simply delayed 18 months.
Also, it sounds easy to say…”move to ND, there is jobs there”….people can’t always pick up and move.
Nice talking point though.
Delaying = kill. Obama and his merry band of oppressive green lobbyists, will simply find another reason to delay in 18 months. Proving once again that liberals don’t much care about jobs, energy independence, or the middle class. Liberals are extremists.
people can’t always pick up and move.
Just another liberal excuse. However had Obama not “delayed” the pipeline, a lot of people would be going back to work in lots of different areas, without having to move. So on one hand James wants jobs, but on the other hand, they evidently are not that important. Strange conflicted world he “occupies”.
Cluster,
so you have a magic crystal ball huh? delay means kill? really?
Proving once again that liberals don’t much care about jobs
is that why we have had months and months of slow job growth under this president while we had massive losses under the last President? Last time I check,d growth is better than no growth, even if its slow.
energy independence
no word on the drilling in the Gulf going on right now? I guess you lost that talking point when they resumed drilling right?
Liberals are extremists.
coming from the guy with extremists views and the cartoonish world view of liberals.
Unemployment averaged 5% under Bush until the very end, around 2008, when the housing crisis hit. And the housing crisis was manufactured by liberal politicians who wanted to hand out mortgages to everyone with a pulse. But why digress?
James, since you seem to be such a staunch defender of liberalism, maybe you can convince me that this anemic growth will soon take off, and why. What policies of Obama’s do you feel will ignite this economy?
Delusional much?
Unemployment averaged 5% under Bush until the very end, around 2008, when the housing crisis hit.
interesting, you cut off Bush’s term and only tell us unemployment up to 2008…..BEFORE any crisis hit…hmm…I wonder what his OVERALL unemployment rate was for his WHOLE Presidency.
And the housing crisis was manufactured by liberal politicians who wanted to hand out mortgages to everyone with a pulse. But why digress?
That’s why Bush said he believes every american should own a home, or that he wanted to bring the american dream to everyone by giving them access to easy money for homes. Come on, revisionist history much? XXXXXXXXXXX Keep depending on insults and you will keep finding your posts disappearing. //Moderator
James, since you seem to be such a staunch defender of liberalism, maybe you can convince me that this anemic growth will soon take off, and why.
The economy has shown signs of increased growth the past quarter and a half. Q3 growth was at 2%, I bet 4Q growth will top 3%. So far, black friday looks like a record setter and employment will increase since unemployment claims have been dropping for about 4 weeks now. Don’t worry, i know you want the economy to keep sluggish until the election, but it won’t happen.
What policies of Obama’s do you feel will ignite this economy?
let’s say it this way, what policies do you think have SLOWED the economy down??
I wonder what his OVERALL unemployment rate was for his WHOLE Presidency.
It was 5% – I just told you that. Look it up.
That’s why Bush said he believes every american should own a home, or that he wanted to bring the american dream to everyone by giving them access to easy money for homes.
A desire, is not a policy. Bush warned Congress many times about the over capitalization of the GSE’s, of which they ignored. Again, look it up.
Don’t worry, i know you want the economy to keep sluggish until the election, but it won’t happen.
That’s not true. I want a robust economy, my livelihood depends on it. I just know what policies like Obama’s result in. If he can turn it around, good for him and everyone. And James, don’t answer a question with another question – it’s shows a lack of knowledge. Please tell us what policies of Obama’s you think will ignite this economy. I have already told you what I think is slowing down the economy, now it’s your turn. You seem to be long on emotion and short on actual debate.
It was 5% – I just told you that. Look it up.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Constant insults will be deleted. //Moderator Here are the FACTS. maybe you should look it up.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose from 4.3% in January 2001, peaking at 6.3% in June 2003 and reaching a trough of 4.4% in March 2007. After an economic slowdown, the rate rose again to 6.1% in August 2008 and up to 7.2% in December 2008.From December 2007 when the recession started to December 2008, an additional 3.6 million people became unemployed. And, as of January 1, 2009, his last month in office, the nation lost 655,000 jobs, raising the unemployment rate to 7.8%, the highest level in more than 15 years.
The AVERAGE was 6.2%. Nice try though.
A desire, is not a policy. Bush warned Congress many times about the over capitalization of the GSE’s, of which they ignored. Again, look it up.
Ignored huh? In 2003 the President tried to impose oversight on Fannie and Freddie…and guess what, it didn’t pass Congress. Who had power in 2003 in Congress?
And James, don’t answer a question with another question – it’s shows a lack of knowledge.
Maybe that’s why you haven’t answered the question about what new taxes have been imposed since obama took office? hmmm….
Please tell us what policies of Obama’s you think will ignite this economy.
The policies he has in place now, and the current economic climate will drive us to growth. He extended tax cuts when he needed to, he imposed restrictions on the banking world, he saved the auto industry, and he is investing in alternative energies even though they have a risk of default. Thanks to this President, millions of people in the Auto industry have jobs.
…is that why we have had months and months of slow job growth under this president while we had massive losses under the last President? – James
I will remind you James, at the risk of exposing your ignorance even more, that under Bush, America realized 52 consecutive months of job growth and GDP growth over 3%. Again, look it up.
He extended tax cuts when he needed to
Hesitantly. And now wants to rescind them. And GM was temporarily “propped up”, not saved. They still owe the tax payers hundreds of millions, the unions got their payoff via Obama shorting other investors, and now GM is once again struggling. Not a real good recipe. Also, the restrictions on the “banking world” (love that term), otherwise known as Dodd/Frank, are strangling credit markets, restricting the flow of credit to small business and consumers, resulting in banks finding other areas to shore up lost revenue, ie: swipe fees.
In 2003 the President tried to impose oversight on Fannie and Freddie…and guess what, it didn’t pass Congress. Who had power in 2003 in Congress?
I have zero allegiance to the RINO’s in Congress at that time, and you are correct, that’s why they got voted out in 2006. However, in 2007, when Bush once again warned Congress, Maxine Waters and Barney Frank said there was nothing to worry about and that Franklin Raines at Fannie Mae was doing a great job. I am a conservative, not a republican.
Here’s a good read for you James:

James, you can run and hide from those statistical truths all you want. Emotion is your strong suit, so just lean on that, and your personal attacks – it’s what liberals do best.
James,
Here’s another source for GM. Unless you want to now call CNN liars:
GM still owes the government about $26 billion in bailout funds. Treasury still owns one third of GM’s shares, valued at about $16.5 billion at today’s stock price.

“James” queries, about Bush, “…I wonder what his OVERALL unemployment rate was for his WHOLE Presidency. ”
Did you study math in school? Can’t you add and divide to get an average? Why do you HAVE to wonder? The figures are a matter of record.
It would be smarter to wonder what it would have been if Lefties had not used legislation to ;push their social engineering agenda, creating an unsustainable housing boom and its attendant banking crisis.
If you’re going to wonder, wonder about something relevant

“The primary reason employers are not hiring is because of the uncertainty of regulations and taxes.”
If anyone is dumb enough to believe this they wouldn’t make any money owning a business anyway. If there is demand for products or services businesses will hire to make more money, that’s it, that’s all, if the money is there to be made people will be hired to make it. No one I have ever met that owns a business would not hire someone when they needed them to meet higher demand no matter the taxes or regs. It is just a total misunderstanding of how business works. Then again maybe just maybe it’s all a big CONSPIRACY!!!
U.S. third-quarter growth revised down to 2.0% (Down from an already pathetic 2.5%)

It is you bwany fwank wanna bees, and aborters who will die off, and murder your way into oblivion….enjoy!
If there is demand for products or services businesses will hire to make more money, – bloody
No they wont. They will simply increase hours and productivity on their existing force. I’d rather pay overtime of an existing employee to meet temporary demand than bring on a new employee. I enjoy listening to people like Elizabeth Warren talk about business, when she has no private market experience, has never created a job, and has lived her entire life on tax payer money. Bloody reminds me of Warren – so assured of what business’s should do, but never really understanding what they do. It’s amusing.
what about permanent demand? again, you’re a liar and a partisan hack at that.
James, you are far too emotional to debate. Your infantile responses bore me. Have a nice day.
Actually, GM still owes tax payers $26 billion

I am not running off – I just don’t care to debate anyone that resorts to name calling, false premises, and juvenile responses. You seem to be the King of that tactic. Again, enjoy your day
Oh and Warren Buffet still owes over $1 million in taxes – he might want to pay his existing tax bill before calling for more taxes, don’t ya think?
There are statistical facts littered throughout that article James. But go ahead and brush it off and ignore it, things are going just great right now, aren’t they? Have a great weekend
“the ONLY “JOBs BILL” the government can give in a FREE society is LOWER TAXES ,LESS REGULATION, and LESS GOVERNMENT INTRUSION, DUH!!”
It’s a fact, no one has ever been hired because of a “jobs bill”, and if anyone ever has it’s because Obama is a sekrit muslin! DUH!
So since Obama has lowered taxes you must agree with his current policies.
BPS
dream on he and his “policies” are a marxist train wreck.
If you want to bring true change to a society, print excessive amounts of money
In his “The Economic Consequences of the Peace”, John Maynard Keynes writes the following: (Page 235)
Lenin is said to have declared that the best way to destroy the Capitalist System was to debauch the currency. By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. By this method they not only confiscate, but they confiscate arbitrarily; and, while the process impoverishes many, it actually enriches some. The sight of this arbitrary rearrangement of riches strikes not only at security, but at confidence in the equity of the existing distribution of wealth. Those to whom the system brings windfalls, beyond their deserts and even beyond their expectations or desires, become “profiteers,” who are the object of the hatred of the bourgeoisie, whom the inflationism has impoverished, not less than of the proletariat. As the inflation proceeds and the real value of the currency fluctuates wildly from month to month, all permanent relations between debtors and creditors, which form the ultimate foundation of capitalism, become so utterly disordered as to be almost meaningless; and the process of wealth-getting degenerates into a gamble and a lottery.
Lenin was certainly right. There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose.

Wow ageism, now RACISM…….. one more for a trifecta.
are generally low class poor white folk,
“Marxist?” Which policy of Obama’s is “Marxist”? I don’t think you know what that word means, where does his policy advocate the masses owning the means of production? Is it just a word that sounds bad to you, like calling him a muslim atheist, or a fascist commie?

No, do your own research.
lie?
refute it numbnuts
““Overall, the Obama Administration imposed 75 new major regulations from January 2009 to mid-FY 2011, with annual costs of $38 billion,” reports Heritage.
In contrast, there were only six deregulatory actions by the Obama administration saving $1.5 billion says the Heritage report.
And those costs were just the cost by the government to implement the regulations, not the overall cost to industry- that is; not the costs to you and I.
In terms of the overall impact on the economic health of the country, the figure is much higher.
“More specifically, the total cost of federal regulations has increased to $1.75 trillion,” writes the federal government’s own Small Business Administration.
Heritage reports that that’s nearly twice the amount that the government collects annually in individual income taxes. Ouch!
The costs are a hidden tax, not just on the rich, says Heritage, but on everyone equally.
But because regulations prevent the creation of new jobs, it hits the poor and middle class particularly hard, “while the updated cost per employee for firms with fewer than 20 employees is now $10,585 (a 36 percent difference between the costs incurred by small firms when compared with their larger counterparts),” says the SBA.
In other words, small employers take it on the chin at the rate of $3,810.60 per employee more than the big guys do.
No wonder the big corporate sponsors of Small Business Saturday wanted to invite Obama in on the deal.
Because while Obama’s rhetoric panders to the little guys, his actions seem geared to favor the big guys instead.
Maybe that’s what the president meant in his State of the Union message when he said his administration was only into doing “big” things: Big Labor, Big Business and Big Graft. There’s just so little opportunity to monetize political power with little people involved in small business- and monetization of political power is the first priority of Obama’s political machine.
It’s not hard to figure why the Obama administration is creating jobs at a post-war low. Jobs aren’t the goal. Fundraising is. That’s why dog and pony shows like Small Business Saturday loom so large for Obama and his corporate pals.
They serve as a reminder that Obama “cares” about little guys [cough, hack], while giving him an opportunity to put the squeeze on the Big Guys.
If Reagan was the Great Communicator, Obama is the Great Fabricator.
For Obama, every day is just another episode of the Beltway Unreality show, where acting is much more important than actually doing something; where pop-culture trumps substance.
But something’s different this election cycle.
The Chambers of Commerce, the Aspen Institute, American Express and the International Monetary Fund don’t own the media anymore.
You do- via the internet. While some may still be deceived, the rest of us are on to the scam.
And through you, Obama’s going to find out that reaffirming and celebrating small business one day a year, doesn’t make up for the 364 days a year that he screws them”

Perry: Yep, last time I checked, Barack Obama is still a socialist (marxist)
Barack Obama offended some when he said America has “been a little bit lazy, I think, over the past couple of decades.” Rick Perry won a few points with the base when he took him to task for it in a new ad. But the Texas governor also drew criticism from some who said he took Obama’s comments out of context.
Undaunted by the criticism, Rick Perry stood by the ad in an interview with Bill O’Reilly last night — and also repeated in no uncertain terms that he thinks Obama has pursued socialist policies — and, consequently, can fairly be called a socialist. CNN Political Ticker reports:
“Absolutely,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News. “I think Barack Obama is a socialist.” …
“I believe he was talking about Americans,” Perry responded.

Calls on churches nationwide to open ‘basements and halls’

Jim Wallis
A recent member of President Obama’s controversial faith council has offered his parish as sanctuary to Occupy protesters and has called on churches nationwide to similarly open their doors to activists from the anti-capitalist movement.
“It’s time to invite the Occupy Movement to church!” wrote Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners, a ministry professing a devotion to the pursuit of “social justice.”
GM takeover, stripping investors of equity in the company (private property) to hand it over to the collective (unions) and then decreeing who would run the company.
What, you have decided that Barry can’t be a Marxist just because he is trying to kind of ease the nation into a Leftist collectivist model?
I think YOU are the one ignorant of the ideology you appear to support and defend.
Rick Perry says so that’s why!!! Deep thoughts from deep thinkers. Obama is a marxist, a socialist, and one more thing, wait give me a minute, he is a third thing just on the tip of my tongue, maybe it was something about the EPA, ooops.
deep thinker = AA, unemployed, community agitator, wit a teleprompter.?
riiiiiight!!
WoW
“The “Dreams From My Father” (Barack Obama’s father, to be precise) were communist in nature, featuring:
— 100% taxation
— communal farms / the elimination of private farming
— the nationalization of businesses owned by “Europeans” and “Asians”.
— “active” measures to bring about a classless society
Obama on Socialism.jpgThere’s a big mystery at the heart of Barack Obama’s Dreams For My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance. What was Barack Obama doing seeking out Marxist professors in college? Why did Obama choose a Communist Party USA member as his socio- political counselor in high school? Why was he spending his time studying neocolonialism and the writings of Frantz Fanon, the pro-violence author of “the Communist Manifesto of neocolonialsm”, in college? Why did he take time out from his studies at Columbia to attend socialist conferences at Cooper Union?
And there is more mystery in the book. Why does Obama consider working in a consulting house for international business like being “a spy behind enemy lines?” Why does he repeatedly find it so hard to explain his political views to others? Why was he driven to become a left-aligned political organizer? It’s a question Obama again and again can’t seem to answer to the satisfaction of the interlocutors in his own memoir.
If there is a mystery at the heart of Barack Obama’s Dreams For My Father, one thing is not left a mystery, the fact that Barack Obama organized his life on the ideals given to him by his Kenyan father. Obama tells us, “All of my life, I carried a single image of my father, one that I .. tried to take as my own.” (p. 220) And what was that image? It was “the father of my dreams, the man in my mother’s stories, full of high-blown ideals ..” (p. 278) What is more, Obama tells us that, “It was into my father’s image .. that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself.” And also that, “I did feel that there was something to prove .. to my father” in his efforts at political organizing. (p. 230)
So we know that his father’s ideals were a driving force in his life, but the one thing that Obama does not give us are the contents of those ideals. The closest he comes is when he tells us that his father lost his position in the government when he came into conflict with Jomo Kenyatte, the President of Kenya sometime in the mid 1960s; when he tells us that his father was imprisoned for his political views by the government just prior to the end of colonial rule; and when he tells us that the attributes of W. E. B. DuBois, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela were the ones he associated with his father and also the ones that he sought to instill in himself. (p. 220) This last group is a hodge podge, perhaps concealing as much as it reveals, in that it contains a socialist black nationalist, a Muslim black nationalist, a civil rights leader, and (at the time indicated in the memoir) an imprisoned armed revolutionary.
A bit of research at the library reveals the answers about Barack Obama’s father and his father’s convictions which Obama withholds from his readers. A first hint comes from authors E. S. Atieno Odhiambo and David William Cohen in their book The Risks of Knowledge (Ohio U. Press, 2004). On page 182 of their book they describe how Barack Obama’s father, a Harvard trained economist, attacked the economic proposals of pro-Western ‘third way” leader Tom Mboya from the socialist left, siding with communist-allied leader Oginga Odinga, in a paper Barack Obama’s father worte for the East Africa Journal. As Odhiambo and Cohen write, “The debates [over economic policy] pitted .. Mboya against .. Oginga Odinga and radical economists Dharam Ghai and Barrack Obama, who critiqued the document for being neither African nor socialist enough.””
Just to put a lie to bed.
QUESTION: I think one related question, looking at the world from the Chinese side, is what they would characterize as impediments to investment in the United States. And so that discussion I’m sure will be part of whatever dialogue you have. And so how are you thinking about that?
OBAMA: Well, this is an issue, generally. I think it’s important to remember that the United States is still the largest recipient of foreign investment in the world. And there are a lot of things that make foreign investors see the U.S. as a great opportunity — our stability, our openness, our innovative free market culture.
But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America. And so one of things that my administration has done is set up something called SelectUSA that organizes all the government agencies to work with state and local governments where they’re seeking assistance from us, to go out there and make it easier for foreign investors to build a plant in the United States and put outstanding U.S. workers back to work in the United States of America.
you are correct
It IS a LIE….the whole thing.
talk about a LIE
To understand this, let’s consider a labor force of 100 people, of which 20 are unemployed. The unemployment rate is 20%. But if 10 unemployed people drop out of the labor force, that reduces the total labor force to 90, and the number of unemployed to 10. As if by magic, the unemployment rate is now only 11%, even though the number of people with jobs remains unchanged.
This is the “magic” behind last week’s astonishing decline in the unemployment rate.
Using the BLS data, we can reconstruct exactly what has happened over the past few years of recession and mild recovery.
The U.S. gains about 2 million new residents every year from births and legal immigration. For instance, the civilian noninstitutional population rose from 236.5 million in October 2009 to 238.5 million in October 2010.
Given this substantial increase in population every year, we might reasonably expect the civilian labor force to expand proportionally, as students graduate and new immigrants enter the workforce.
Yet according to the BLS, the civilian labor force was 153.8 million in January 2008 and 153.2 million in January 2011 — a decline of 600,000 while the population increased by some 6 million. And the not-in-labor-force category expanded by 2 million from January 2010 to January 2011, from 83.4 million to 85.5 million.
How is this possible? When unemployed people stop looking for jobs at their local unemployment office, the government no longer counts them as unemployed. That’s how the number of unemployed can drop from 15 million in November 2010 to 13.8 million in January 2011, a decline of 1.2 million, even though the economy created only about 400,000 jobs in those three months.
Over a longer time period, the not-in-labor-force group rose from 78.8 million in January 2008 to 85.5 million in January 2011 — an increase of almost 7 million.
How do you drop the unemployment rate? Simple: remove 7 million people from the labor force
“…RECIPIENT of investment…” Yeah, ’cause it was just given to us! We just RECEIVED it. It had nothing to do with the fact that we had a governmental system that incentivized and rewarded initiative and hard work, for example.
Nah. We just sat back and were RECIPIENTS of investment.
He just can’t help showing his true ideology, can he?
You have uncovered a deep conspiracy, Obama is a socialist, which is why his policies are basically center right. He would be indistinguishable from Nixon as far as his economics go, but I’m sure it’s all a big trick that only far right kooks can see. Just like how Wayne Lapierre says that Obama’s doing nothing about gun control is a trick to take your guns away. It’s like some sort of decades long plan that he started with his time machine!
“…his policies are basically center right…” if by “right”: you mean ignoring the Constitution to vastly increase the size, scope and power of the central government and place power in the hands of select ruling elite whose entire careers have been dedicated to the furtherance of radical Leftist ideology.. ‘Cause he’s sure in the center of THAT.
Hint: Your straw men are even dumber and more feeble than most we see here. You might wanna work on that……
