Obama Needs a New Slogan

When you don’t have a record worth running on, apparently coming up with a new campaign slogan isn’t easy.

Advisers say a fresh slogan to replace the winning “Change we can believe in” mantra of 2008, is unlikely to appear before Obama knows who his Republican opponent will be and starts big campaign travel swings, likely in the spring or summer.

His campaign posters now say simply, “Obama 2012.”

But Obama’s surrogates have roadtested some slogans in recent months, including “Winning The Future,” which the White House used to promote its budget, and “Greater Together,” which the campaign has used to brand its youth outreach effort.

A new tagline will have to reflect a new reality.

Obama is no longer a Washington outsider, unemployment is falling but still high, and economic insecurity for many voters is a huge concern that a simple slogan cannot overcome.

Got any slogan suggestions?

“Greater Together” is reminiscent of “One People, One Nation, One Leader”

I am sure Obama will come up with a poll tested saying that will make people like James and Xavier swoon. Do you remember in 2004 when Kerry lost, the democrats began focusing on the language they use? To them, it wasn’t the policies that mattered rather the language used to sell those policies and considering that today we have liberals who can not have a coherent policy discussion, I unfortunately have to say they were right. Democrats have effectively used snake oil salesman techniques to gain power from an electorate that really doesn’t want to think too deeply, nor work too hard.

I think a good 2012 slogan for Obama to his minion base would be – “Trust Me”

    And you know they will

      Really?

When did he leave the briefing room to do that?

Your president benefitted from the interrogation procedures and policies set up by Bush. The only thing obAMATEUR did was take 18 hours to make the reluctant decision to proceed with the raid because he saw no alternative politically.

I am sure he will play on the “I got Osama” because “four more years” will only take him down.

tired, even if we grant that Obama (“your president”? lol) benefited from the policies put in place by Bush, I recall during the 2008 presidential debates that Obama was derided by John McCain and virtually everyone on the right for saying that he would, if necessary, go into Pakistan to take out Osama Bin Laden. Maybe you need a refresher. Obama said:

“I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges. But let me make this clear: There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al Qaeda leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will.” The following day, McCain ranted about how Obama was “naive.” Naive? He got the job done, something Bush was unable to do, even when he had a golden chance to do so.

      • tiredoflibbs's avatar tiredoflibbs February 20, 2012 / 1:26 pm

Gee watty, then why did it take obAMATEUR 18 hours to make a decision?

In front of the camera he was so “decisive”, but when push came to shove, he hesitated. Especially after publicly stating that they will strike again. It should have been a no brainer. obAMATEUR and the Democrats wanted to tear down the structure and plans put in place by Bush to find and get bin Laden. We heard all the rhetoric of how illegal it was, how bad it was and that it ruined our image internationally. But, he sure changed his mind when the political opportunity present itself and he scrambled to take credit for it.

And come off of it with the “Bush wasn’t able to get the job done” dumbed down talking point. It was not for lack of trying. And don’t give me that “he got distracted in Iraq” crap, either. There were still troops, special forces and intelligence units whose sole task was to find and get bin Laden.

Wow, you drones are so easily manipulated into regurgitating dumbed down talking points.

Mitch, the GOP already has an ad to counter BHOzo’s one claim to fame.

You see Obama (a look-alike) standing on the tee getting ready to hit his drive. A black suburban screeches up and a Secret Service guy get out and says, “Mr. President, the Bin Laden op is going down. Would you like to be in the photo op?” “Do I have time to finish my round,” says Obama. The SS agent grabs a sat phone from the Suburban, calls the stealth chopper hovering over Bin Laden’s compound and asks if the President has time to finish his golf round. The chopper pilot is laughing so hard he crashes the chopper into the wall of the compound. The Secret Service agent mumbles something under his breath that sounds like “Oh, sh*t” and turns to Obama and says “No, Mr. President, we need to go now”. The ad closes with the famous photo of the Situation Room with Obama slumped in his chair, still in his golf jacket.

Back to the drawing board, Mitch — sorry.

As far as a slogan, I personally, I liked WTF (winning the future, of course). It perfectly displayed the ineptitude of this bunch of losers. Maybe they could somehow combine it with the reset button given to the Russians, like “WTF — reset for another 4 years”.

Iran cuts off oil supplies to France and UK firms, and now the Saudi’s have lowered their daily production, so I think we can expect prices to climb. IF we had a serious president whose priority was to keep America financially strong by submitting responsible budgets and working towards tax, regulatory and entitlement reform, and of whom was making a serious effort to have America become energy independent, these recent issues would not be of such concern.

Unfortunately, our current president is not a serious president.

        @GMB
There is no more need for a showdown with Islam than a showdown with Mormonism. The Treaty of Versailles= beginning of WW2. Without oil, most peoples concern about the Middle East would be on par with their concern for East Africa = 0.

There is central planning office for Islam. Why do you think there was an Iran-Iraq war?

Have you read either the Koran or book of Mormon? Nope. Does Mormonism deny the Trinity just as Islam? Yes. Is it a religion with goals of eventually controlling the universe? Yes. Do I fear being blown up by ANY religious group? NO.

        GMB

The Bible is agreed upon by numerous denominations which were at war with each other. Only lefties talk in terms of the inquisition and crusades. I’ve read of all denominations, including Mormons, of pilots who dropped bombs on civilians during WW2, I don’t label their religion. Is there a term limit on the bombing of Dresden? I disagree 100 percent with Islam, I don’t think the Mideast countries are countries to fear. True, the current generation of terrorists is no longer anarchists from central Europe. I am still not willing to spend trillions on another war which won’t prevent a single attack.

The embargo is not hurting the mullahs and is only raising the cost of gas around the world. It will be nice to see the world will become independent of MidEast oil and the mullahs slip into the obscurity they held in the 1930’s. The mullahs hate each other more than they hate anyone else. His and her jets: The President and his wife, who are spending nine days on Martha’s Vineyard, have come under fire for travelling on separate planes

The First Lady is believed to have taken 42 days of holiday in the past year, including a $375,000 break in Spain and a four-day ski trip to Vail, Colorado, where she spent $2,000 a night on a suite at the Sebastian hotel.

And the first family’s nine-day stay in Martha’s Vineyard is also proving costly, with rental of the Blue Heron Farm property alone costing an estimated $50,000 a week.

The source continued: ‘Michelle also enjoys drinking expensive booze during her trips. She favours martinis with top-shelf vodka and has a taste for rich sparking wines.

‘The vacations are totally Michelle’s idea. She’s like a junkie. She can’t schedule enough getaways, and she lives from one to the next – all the while sticking it to hardworking Americans.’

Give me thy grace, good Lord, To set the world at nought’, To set my mind fast upon thee. And not to hang upon the blast of men’s mouths. To be content to be solitary, Not to long for worldly company, Little and little utterly to cast off the world, And rid my mind of all the business thereof. Not to long to hear of any worldly things, But that the hearing of worldly phantasies may be to me displeasant. Gladly thinking of God, Piteously to call for his help, To lean unto the comfort of God, Busily labour to love him. To know mine own vility and wretchedness, To humble and meeken myself under the mighty hand of God, To bewail my sins passed, For the purging of them, patiently to suffer adversity. Gladly to bear my pergatory here, To be joyful of tribulations, To walk the narrow way that leadeth to Life…..

No tommy-boy, oil production is up on PRIVATE lands – obAMATEUR has little or no control over what happens on private lands. ObAMATEUR taking credit for increased oil production is a LIE.

While, oil production on public lands is down. Proof? Oil/gas lease revenue from public lands which was over $9 BILLION in 2008 is now $36 MILLION (links in gas consumption thread). ObAMATEUR said that oil lease revenue has increased under his pResidency, is ANOTHER LIE.

Also, you did not even read my post. Increased oil production was on PRIVATE LAND. LAND that obAMATEUR has no influence, no control. OPM and the white hut grifters.

        Michelle Obama, Job Creator
        Jeannie DeAngelis

Michelle Obama has a vacation gig that’s hard to beat. There’s the February ‘spend time with the daughters’ vacation, which usually entails skiing and snowboarding in Vail, Beaver Creek, or Aspen. There’s ‘tag along with Barry’ excursions, which turn into holiday adventures like last years’ post- Vail trip to Rio. Following closely behind are the April trips like last year’s slogging stout in Ireland and an outing to rub elbows with royals Kate and Will.

Then there’s the pre-vacation vacation in June, which usually precedes the Martha’s Vineyard official vacation in August. Last year* it was a ‘fried fat cake’ safari to Africa.

In the fall, prior to Christmas vacation in Hawaii, there’s usually some event Michelle manages to turns into a fun jaunt. Last year it was the Asian Pacific Conference conveniently located in Hawaii, where the First Lady got to squeeze in some R & R and local dining before returning early for a $4 million, 17-day Hawaiian Christmas respite.

Now here’s the thing: This woman wouldn’t know work if she tripped over it. She’s either dancing with platypuses, making cameo appearances on children’s shows, dining in tony bistros, hosting glitzy star-studded parties, or circumnavigating the globe following a strict vacation schedule she hasn’t deviated from since she first set her dainty size-11 foot in the White House.

And she does all this while her husband, who has put America’s workforce on a permanent vacation, talks about creating jobs

So we’re supposed to believe that oil lease revenues on public lands decreased by 99.6 percent? Seriously? And over what period? I’m sorry, but that’s patently absurd.

I finally tried to look up your claim about public lands, since you have repeatedly made this assertion as though it’s a universally known fact. Where did you get these statistics? This article shows that it’s just about impossible to come up with accurate data for what you claim:

      http://www.eenews.net/public/Greenwire/2012/02/09/4

But not only that, according to a Jan. 10, 2012 BLM press release:

“WASHINGTON – Following a strong year in which leasing reform helped to lower protests and increase revenue from onshore oil and gas lease sales on public lands – resulting in a 20 percent increase in lease sale revenues over 2010 – the Interior Department will hold 32 additional sales in calendar year 2012, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced today.

During calendar year 2011, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) held 32 onshore oil and gas lease sales, offering 1,755 parcels of land covering nearly 4.4 million acres. 1,296 parcels of land were sold – nearly three-quarters of those offered – generating about $256 million in revenue for American taxpayers.”

Uh, again, reading comprehension is not your strong suit, watty. The linked information speaks for itself. ObAMATEUR’s claims are lies and have been proven to be so. Remember, a huge part of public land is the GOM, which obAMATEUR shut down and is oh so very slowly opening and approving leases. He is against hydrocarbon fuel production in favor of his green energy schemes.

At least you acknowledge that production increases were on PRIVATE land. Land obAMATEUR has no control and therefore cannot claim credit and his dumbed down talking points are lies.

AND, you just pointed out data from the Dept. of Interior is incorrect but you cite figures from the same department.

As I said, you are desperate to give your pResident credit. Too bad you are not consistent or reliable. You claim that “you cannot find the data” – speaking of absurd. It is not that you can’t find it, but you are unwilling to find it.

I’m definitely with Hesindnile/Sunny/Velma. Why would any rational, thinking person not want 4 more years of this:

#1 Today there are 88 million working age Americans that are not employed and that are not looking for employment. That is an all-time record high.

#2 When Barack Obama was elected, the percentage of unemployed Americans that had been out of work for more than 52 weeks was less than 15%. Today, it is above 30%.

#3 There are 1.2 million fewer jobs in America today than there were when Barack Obama was inaugurated.

#4 When Barack Obama first took office, the number of “long-term unemployed workers” in the United States was approximately 2.6 million. Today, that number is sitting at 5.6 million.

#5 The average duration of unemployment in the United States is hovering close to an all-time record high.

#6 During the Obama administration, worker health insurance costs have risen by 23 percent.

#7 Since Barack Obama has been president, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States has increased by 90 percent.

#8 Since Barack Obama has been president, home values in the United States have declined by another 13 percent.

#9 Under Barack Obama, new home sales in the U.S. set a brand new all-time record low in 2009, they set a brand new all-time record low again in 2010, and they set a brand new all-time record low once again during 2011.

#10 Since Barack Obama took office, the number of Americans living in poverty has risen by more than 6 million.

#11 Since Barack Obama entered the White House, the number of Americans on food stamps has increased from 32 million to 46 million.

#12 The amount of money that the federal government gives directly to Americans has increased by 32 percent since Barack Obama entered the White House.

#13 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the percentage of Americans living in “extreme poverty” is now sitting at an all-time high.

#14 When Barack Obama first took office, an ounce of gold was going for about $850. Today an ounce of gold costs more than $1700 an ounce.

#15 Since Barack Obama became president, the size of the U.S. national debt has increased by 44 percent.

#16 During Barack Obama’s first two years in office, the U.S. government added more to the U.S. national debt than the first 100 U.S. Congresses combined.

#17 During the Obama administration, the U.S. government has accumulated more debt than it did from the time that George Washington took office to the time that Bill Clinton took office.

#18 The U.S. national debt has been increasing by an average of more than 4 billion dollars per day since the beginning of the Obama administration.

Cluster it is the obAMATEUR way.

Ignore data or facts you don’t like and spin the data or facts that make you look good.

      For example:
Unemployment is 8.3%! (while ignoring the millions that are no longer counted because they cannot find a job and have given up).

If an accountant/CEO did that, he would be indicted for fraud. “Hey our profit is up” (while ignoring the massive negative cash flow – sort of like Solyndra).

Unemployment is 8.3%! (while ignoring the millions that are no longer counted because they cannot find a job and have given up).- Tired

Again, if people are too lazy to look for work why is that the President’s fault? There are plenty of jobs available but people are too picky.

      • tiredoflibbs's avatar tiredoflibbs February 21, 2012 / 3:38 pm

Baldoof, you too have a reading comprehension disorder?

That example I gave was in relation to this statement:
“it is the obAMATEUR way. Ignore data or facts you don’t like and spin the data or facts that make you look good.”

The 8.3% unemployment figure is a lie – that is the obAMATEUR’s fault. This has been discussed several times here. His policies have made an environment where jobs are hard to find – that is his fault too. Extending unemployment benefits AND making it easier to get on the government dole if you can’t find a job is obAMATEUR’s fault as well. Plus, all this is happening under his watch – he is ultimately at fault!

I knew you were slow witted and pretend to be an intellectual but sheesh.

“There are plenty of jobs available …”

Bullshit. According to the BLS the job openings are at a level far lower than during the recession in 2001 and 2003. Job openings/turnover rate has finally reached the level it was in December 2008, which was the lowest of the previous 10 years, the bottom dropped out after January 2009. Wages (aggregate) for the openings are far lower than at the same point in 2009. Regionally more restrictive than at any time since 2001.

Fewer openings in less locales; crappier wages, higher cost of living … only an out-of-touch academic would label someone struggling against this tide as “lazy”

      • bardolf's avatar bardolf February 21, 2012 / 7:41 pm

        Count takes it both ways

The BLS is trustworthy organization when it suits and a corrupt governmental organization when it suits. That is known as partisan bullshit.

He is against academics and yet would be an unemployed loser without academia. His lessons to the next generation are to milk the system as a faux entrepreneur or psychic accountant. Jump onto the bandwagon after everyone else has taken the risks and done the hard work. Add layers of bureaucracy and pretend he’s just making things more efficient. Parlay the parasitic behavior into a nice car and house and pretend to be an innovator.

The bls uses phone surveys for open positions, the same as the unemployment survey except businesses have land lines, more private homes don’t. Making the results more consistent and therefore more trustworthy.

Next, the survey for open positions hasn’t changed since 1981, the unemployment survey has changed significantly in just the past few years. Do you need me to slow down so you can catch up?

Finally, an open position doesn’t become “a discouraged position” if it isn’t filled causing it to not be counted.

Dude, if you’re going to issue a challenge make it a serious one.

      Cluster,

I bailed out of equities in the spring of 2007 when the Dow was around 13,200. Had I stayed in, my retirement funds would have flat-lined for half a decade.

bloodydump, there is only one problem with your pathetic scenario. Bush isn’t President.

Your incompetent AMATEUR bum of a pResident is. Facts are facts. He is not getting the job done and needs manipulation of data and figures to make it seem he is successful.

Evidence? Health care “benefits” the deficit. His most recent deficit reduction projection numbers are unrealistic, etc. etc. His unemployment numbers alone are proven lies. The CBO says real unemployment is 15%, last I heard.

It is a shame you drones can’t stand the facts. Most drones like you are products of the government school system which explains most of your ignorance.
