It’s All About ME!!!!

‘I said that I’d go after bin Laden if we had a clear shot at him, and I did. If there are others who have said one thing and now suggest they’d do something else, then I’d go ahead and let them explain it.’
-Barack Hussein Obama-

Truth be told, I wouldn’t have a problem with the above statement if President Obama had said, “I said that WE’D go after bin Laden if we had a clear shot at him, and WE did.”

He didn’t do anything but pull a Marlin Perkins, watching from behind the proverbial blind while Jim Fowler tagged the lion.

Instead, he acts no different than a mind-numbed narcissistic rooster, taking credit for the sunrise as he crows. Gawd, he’s pathetic.

Well, its all he’s got, isn’t it? I mean, offing bin Laden is just about the only success Obama can reasonable take credit for (the continued security of the United States, overall, is because Obama has retained just about every Bush Administration protocol for national defense). Of course, bin Laden, himself, was a trivial actor on the world stage – as I’ve been stating since at least 2003 (and I might have said it even earlier than that). He’s just someone who took advantage of a situation – he neither created nor sustained the situation, and the rise of Islamic radicalism continues apace even though bin Laden is dead. it was only liberals who thought 9/11 lead to “the war on bin Laden”…sensible people knew then, and know now, that it is a war against Islamo-fascism, and that the war will continue until we crush the life out of that ideology…and that, precisely, is what Obama refuses to do.

I’d like to make an observation that I’ve never seen anywhere else. I’m not big into conspiracy theories, but look at this photo and tell me it doesn’t look like Obama’s image was photo-shopped into the picture. He’s stuck off to the side, slouched down in his chair. The President is 6’1″ tall, but proportionally he’s the smallest person in the photo. He looks like a little kid. There is just something really off about his placement in that photo, particularly, as Leo notes, since “it’s all about him”.

Ryan Zinke, a former Commander in the US Navy who spent 23 years as a SEAL and led a SEAL Team 6 assault unit, said: ‘The decision was a no brainer.

      • neocon1's avatar neocon1 May 1, 2012 / 7:56 am

Who was it who spilled the beans and put the life of every Navy Seal in danger? Here’s what “legendarily verbose and loose-lipped Vice President Joe Biden said at a dinner at Washington’s Ritz Carlton Hotel” a few days after Obama Bin Laden was killed by American forces in Pakistan: “Admiral James Stavridis is a, is the real deal. He can tell you more about and understands the incredible, the phenomenal, the just almost unbelievable capacity of his Navy SEALs and what they did last Sunday.” The Telegraph, May 4th, 2011

Today, in KABUL, Afghanistan, Taliban Insurgents shot down a U.S. military helicopter killing 30 American warriors, most of them belonging to the same elite Navy SEALs unit that killed Osama bin Laden, as well as seven Afghan commandos. It was the deadliest single loss for American forces in the decade-old war. “The downing was a stinging blow to the lauded, tight-knit SEAL Team 6, months after its crowning achievement. It was also a heavy setback for the U.S.-led coalition as it begins to draw down thousands of combat troops fighting what has become an increasingly costly and unpopular war.” (30 U.S. Troops Killed in Afghanistan) News updates are describing that 22 of those 30 (or 31) warriors were members of SEAL Team 6.

Who Was It Who “Spiked the Football” Rather Than Protect the Anonymity of Seal Team 6?
Once the National Security Beans were Spilled, it was “Katy Bar the Door” if you can, as Obama, his aides, the CIA and the Pentagon practically tripped over one another in their zeal to have their President bask in the glory of Seal Team 6. It is described today of all days by Maureen Dowd, of the New York Times, August 6, 2011:

neo, you make an excellent point about the betrayal of the essential veil of secrecy that is so essential to a group like Seal Team 6.

How can we expect our men and women to put their lives on the line when their own government can’t be counted on to even protect their identities?

We have had too many betrayals of trust from above, putting Seals and CIA agents at risk by revealing their existence and their identities, even having the United States Attorney General threatening prosecution for doing their jobs. One such betrayal would be too many, but this administration has contributed to the outing of many, both in the intelligence community and the military.

The scope and depth of the dismantling of our ability to operate with stealth and accuracy, whether in the fields of intelligence or military action, has yet to be revealed, but what we CAN see is disgusting.

The DoJ’s eventual indictment of former CIA employee John Kiriakou, charging him with leaking he identities of two CIA officers, is now being touted as an example of the Obama Administration’s determination to seek out and prosecute those who expose covert operatives, but it took the DoJ nearly two years, following a May 2010 letter to President Obama from Congressman Todd Akin (R-Missouri) demanding a “full and thorough investigation” into the matter. The letter was signed by 47 other members of Congress.

In a May 22, 2010 letter to President Obama, Congressman Todd Akin (R.-2nd Dist, Missouri) called for a “full and thorough investigation” into how the identities of two CIA covert operatives were leaked to the ACLU.

Forty-seven other members of Congress co-signed Congressman Akin’s letter.

To quote an article in the American Thinker: After one year of the DOJ seemingly taking no action, and then two years of investigating, on January 23, 2012, former CIA employee John Kiriakou was charged with leaking the identities of two CIA officers to three journalists, who then gave the information to an investigator working in the ACLU’s John Adams Project.

Photographs of the CIA officers were obtained and inserted into a group of non-CIA personnel photos, and then given to detainees. The detainees were to pick out the faces of their interrogators whom they recognized.

Yeah, and Plame and hubby Wilson outed her, themselves, him through his bragging about having a wife in the CIA and her through her incredible incompetence in using both her own name and the cover (fake) undercover company name in public documents. Duh. She was definitely a player in the “Just How Dumb Can You Be?” game—–anyone seeing her name, knowing already (thanks to Wilson) that she worked for the CIA, and seeing her list another company as her employer, would take about two seconds to connect the dots. A quick check to find out that the bogus company did not have a phone number or address, and that was confirmed.

(Just curious—I wonder whose job it was to keep the credentials of the fake company current, to keep its undercover status intact?)

Plame was already on her way out of the CIA—-according to one unnamed CIA source at the time, at the request of the CIA, as she was such a dunce—-and this was just a great chance to use the dupes of the Left to strike at Cheney.

I have no problem giving Obama, and our military credit for killing Bin Laden, I just find it hypocritical of liberals and Obama that they now chamoion this effort. If Sen, Obama had had his way, our troops wouldn’t have been in the position to take such action, and had liberals gotten their way, the intel that led to Bin laden wouldn’t have been there, so it’s just a bit odd that they now want all the credit.

Conservatives want credit for killing bin Laden NOW, but when they were in charge actually said they “don’t really think about him very much.” They were just “not that concerned.” Their actions proved they meant it.

Talk about hypocritical. We got hit on the conservative’s watch (didn’t want to “swat flies”). We won on the liberal’s watch. GM is alive and bin Laden is dead. On Obama’s watch.

Bolton weighs in on Obama taking credit for Bush’s successes with regard to the killing of bin-Laden, saying that the only thing Obama really did was get out of the way. The intelligence that led us to bin-Laden came from the very thing Obama railed against and thus banned when becoming president, enhanced interrogations.

So for him to take credit for killing bin-Laden, Bolton says, is like Nixon taking credit for America landing on the moon.

I remember when President Bush commented that he didn’t spend a lot of time thinking about Bin Laden, and the absolute firestorm of hysteria from the Left, the mushroom cloud of indignation and outrage that they created as they fumed, hollered, and carried on.

I thought it was a brilliant comment, for a couple of reasons.

First, it was not Bush’s JOB to think about how to find and capture or kill Bin Laden. As a businessman, he understood that his job, the CEO, was not to micromanage the departments under him. He had intelligence services and the military whose jobs DID include finding and dealing with Bin Laden, and it would have foolish for the President to devote his own energies to doing what the experts were already working on. People with no business experience simply could not understand this, and the Rabily Radical Left didn’t care, they just wanted to use this comment to foam up their hysterical base.

Second, Bush refused to contribute to the elevation of Bin Laden to the status of world folk hero and Superman of the terrorists. He quite properly diminished him, to just a rabble-rouser who could attract people to his cause, one of many who had just managed to gain public notoriety but hardly a god.

It was the Left who insisted on making Bin Laden the centerpiece of the war on terrorism. It was the Left who declared that the only real goal we should have was to “get” Bin Laden. It was the Left who elevated him to such stellar status.

I never knew why. Oh, it was obvious that they could use the inability to “get” him as a political bludgeon, but aside from that, I always wondered if they really were so profoundly stupid that they truly believed the entire jihad against All That Is Not Islam would just shrivel up die without this one man at its helm.

And there was that possiblity, or, considering the intellectual basis of the Left, the probablitly. As we have learned here, they don’t waste much time studying history (or, as one forker howled, being TRAPPED IN HISTORY !!!!!!!!) and as they skim the surface of historical fact, with little tidbits of this and that clinging to them as they sweep past, they may have thought that just as Hitler WAS Germany in the last world war, Bin Laden WAS Islamic jihad.

But Hitler created the Germanic mania to rule the world, while Islamic jihad had been going on, against All That Is Not Islam, for centuries. Bin Laden stepped into the stream of centuries of jihad and used his money and his intelligence to create a little cyst of fanatical followers and devise some fiendishly clever plans, but he was never the heart and soul of Islamic jihad. He was a general in the army of jihad, just the one with the biggest public profile, the one used to attract new recruits.

Getting Hitler would have demoralized the German offensive and possibly even ended the war, but getting Patton would not have taken the US out of the war. The Left didn’t seem to understand the difference.

I always thought that when Islamic attacks continued after getting Bin Laden, as they were sure to do, and even escalated in retaliation for getting him, the Left would probably be befuddled and confused, believing as they seemed to believe that with Bin Laden gone the entire problem would be solved.

So to me it was always a question of whether or not the RRL were truly as stupid and tunnel-visioned as they appeared to be, or if they were just callously using the Bin Laden thing as a political tool to attack what they could call Bush’s failure.

After all, obAMATEUR had to be convinced by his staff to do this since it was the political thing to do.

obAMATEUR has nothing else to run on. WHY? We can sit it in drones like you who do not hesitate to mindlessly regurgitate the “he got bin Laden” dumbed down talking point.

We do know for a fact, that obAMATEUR is against all the facilities and interrogations that provided the information that made this operation possible.

Now, he is taking credit for it, where he had nothing to lose but the resignation of an admiral if it failed – but he still had to be convinced and took 18 hours to decide.

Yeah, mitchie a real “gutsy call”. Pathetic.

Yeah, mitchie–thanks for finding such an unbiased reporter to cite. Adds so much to the credibility of your link, you know.

And thanks for supporting my contention that the GOP was smart enough to NOT elevate this penny-ante Islamic thug to superstar status, even giving us quotes to prove their superior grasp of the situtaion.

Bush: “I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority… “I am truly not that concerned about him.”

Romney: “It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”

No, it takes the Identity Politics and Personality Pimps of the rabidly radical Left to conflate identity with ideology. So naturally, they/mitch have to assign vast power to one person, oblivious to the fact so obvious to so many that Bin Laden was only one general in a vast army of jihadists, one who had been used as a poster boy to recruit mindless drones but who was just one of many.

And I love the sneering at Bush in his flight suit. That image of the fighter pilot stepping out of a just-landed fighter jet on the deck of an aircraft carrier, carrying with it the reminder that THIS president had served in the military, just chapped the donkeys of the RRL so badly that even now they are not over it. Remember the lies they told? My favorite was that Bush had claimed to have landed the jet, when in the speech he made immediately after landing he praised the pilot who had flown and landed the plane.

And their delicate little panties were in quite a twist because Bush looked so good in that flight suit, so they claimed he had donned it just to make a false impression. Of course, all thinking people knew it was not just a costume but mandatory for anyone in such a plane, and even people like Diane (Klingon) Sawyer had been fitted for one before being allowed to do a ride-along.

Too funny that even now, years later, the RRL has not gotten over the comparison of Bush stepping out of a fighter jet with Clinton stepping out of a helicopter taxi.

      Awwwwww

BTW, no need to apply the Left-owned hysteria response to the calm objective analysis of the callous effort to politicize the Bin Laden killing. The unhysterical response to Bin Laden is quite clear in the two quotes you, via Sullivan, were kind enough to provide.

That is a far cry from saying “all intelligence”. It was never denied that more coercive techniques were used on him. Perhaps, he was broken first using more coercive techniques and then he sang like a canary.

Fact is, if proggies had their way, OBL would still be alive.

If he had, Dick Cheney himslef would have carved his image on Mt. Rushmore and you know it. If THE PRESIDENT had shot Bin Laden himself you all stil wouldn’t give him credit. I said I WOULDN’T have a problem with it if he gave Seal Team 6 a modicum of credit, or even if he didn’t word it like he himself took the presidential limo to the bin Laden compound and shot bin Laden himself. Bush appreciated the troops, and took EVERY opportunity to give them credit.

So velma, when obAMATEUR promised he would not spike the football concerning “getting OBL”, was he lying?

When obAMATEUR criticized Clinton for politicizing OBL and terrorism (remember the 2am call?) in 2008, then he himself is politicizing OBL, is he being hypocritical?

Please name the obAMATEUR policies the allow him to take FULL credit for “getting OBL”. Since he blames Bush for everything negative and his failures as pResident, but offers no credit to Bush for invoking policy and infrastructure which “allowed him to get OBL”, is he again being hypocritical and lacks the courage to man-up for his failures, which are solely his?

Awww, mitchie, all wound up because someone in the National Guard, who VOLUNTEERED for Viet Nam assignment, didn’t get sent because the military had decided to send newer fighter jets than the one he was trained on for the ANG.

The Realization of Osama bin Laden’s Dream
        By Tara Servatius

Don’t let this week’s anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s
assassination fool you. *US SEALS* may have killed bin Laden, but no one on Earth has done more to help al-Qaeda and the world’s radical Islamists achieve their goals in the last year than our “president.”

Bin Laden’s ultimate goal was for radical Islamists to rise up and retake control of the Middle East from largely secular, American-backed leaders. Bin Laden’s strategy was to use terror attacks on the West to inspire this.

Just a few years ago, bin Laden probably couldn’t have fathomed that it would be an American president who would ultimately accomplish his goal of bringing radical Islamist leaders to power in Middle Eastern countries, or that the same American president would get closer to accomplishing those goals in just three years than bin Laden himself did in his entire multi-decade terror career.

Democrats seem to have a different take on heroes and medals than most military folks, with their unquestioning acceptance of Kerry and his endless FAKE Purple Hearts as the classic example. Remember how draft dodger,Clinton, who bragged about reducing federal employment without revealing he did it through severe military force cuts, awarded pardons to all those criminals and terrorists in his last hours in office?

It wouldn’t surprise me if this egomaniac wannabee hero we have in the White House now will try to wangle himself a Medal of Honor for his courage and valor in the killing of Osama bin Laden. That would be a monumental, command level case of Stolen Valor.

[moderator: sorry, might be a little incensed this evening]

      Mitch “the Ignorant”,

You are correct in one matter which was and is the F-102 Delta Daggers are a tough airframe to master. Let me see if I can help you out on a couple of these other issues but before we venture that far afield–I am assured you knew that the death rate of the F-102 during any given two (2) years in the “non-war” period of the 1980’s that accidental deaths are either equal to or higher than that of hostile deaths in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Obviously only Chicken Shits would fly them. Same reason I wish the Marines never got handed that POS the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey which has killed more fine Americans.

Jump on Neo about eating “Dog” when I have had better and worse including “Rats on a stick” (some of you know–the guys on tricycles ~ Clark AFB), monkey, snake, cat, and just about at least one serving of every pet you have ever had of which I have no problem–my problem is you self-serving elitist deciding on my salt content, whether I decide to smoke a fine cigar combined with a nice Merlot and good friends, or whether I drive a large “carbon footprint” vehicle no matter how false that meme has been proven. Could be because I need to move shit from one place to another that my Mini Cooper S could not, as your Prisus can not, move more than a bag of manure. What do you expect people to buy at a “Home Depot” when CART has us all driving go-carts? Hell, invite me over and I will not only shoot and skin your dog, cat, or other family pet (in front of your children) but show you several ways to prepare it. Now stop bitching about Romney putting his dog on top of the car–it used to be a standard when you were nothing more than a stain on the mattress.

As far as the military under civilian control, I could go on for pages that would escape you (over your head) because you do not even understand the basic difference between “arguing” and “discussion” as you, are arguing (not discussing) because (to quote your own words) are “offer[ing] no substance, no rational policy debate or even facts.” Might as well tell you to lick a unicorn’s ass until rainbows appear–it is auto-magical. Military is not the civilian world. You need to be a part of it before you could begin to understand. Just because your dog humped your neighbor’s leg does not make your dog an expert on your neighbor. Well, at least not in my book.

In my book of records, which is my personal opinion, I have Sen. Kerry down for three (3) purple hearts and maybe you can define which and why of these he rated because my friends have the horror of being ‘tunnel rats’, having to actually fight and dispatch (that is kill at close quarters for you panty waist folks) people (men, woman and children) face-to-face and live with the everlasting trauma yet never received three Purple hearts in years of service (multiple tours) let alone the “short-time” Kerry spend (Maybe Al Gore could help you–he was a “photo-journalist” that never took a picture after all)–not a scratch, a boo-boo, and fall down the steps that no one backs up. Since you sound non-military, I will help you in the fact that even an aviation ‘Ace’ does not get the award until five OTHER folks back up his/her conformation of five (5) planes shot down. His/Her word is NOT good enough ~ except for Kerry. BTW, “Short-time” is not a preferred term either.”

As far as our current President– I believe a man/women is not what they say but what they do. Please provide proof positive (nothing before the courts) that proves the President is anything other than what I believe, which at this point is another in a long line of failures of Democrat/Liberal/Progressive works of Crap. Now that I am released from the Marines–I can freely voice my opinion which reminds me of a final point. Those standing and clapping as President Obama left the stage were ‘required’ to by command.

Basically Mitch (whether 6 or 60)–grow up asshole. You are the one in the fictional bubble of denial. I give President Obama credit for the killing of Bin Laden but in reality–what did it matter? Oh, wait the “War on Terrorism is over!!!

Final note: I might be such a butthead because GMB is 66% less cynical….could we adjust it to maybe 55%?

I just don’t understand how military folks can call ALL Purple Hearts into question by claiming Kerry’s are fake. If they can be faked, multiple times even, then all of them are questionable. Kerry didn’t have any special Jedi mind powers as a soldier. He was awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with Combat V, along with those three Purple Owies. But somehow he faked it all?

You are REALLY more loyal to your political party than to your fellow soldier?

        Bozo,

Since you chimed in on the world of PH recipients–you can answer the question I put forth–not that I “call[ed] ALL Purple Hearts into question by claiming Kerry’s are fake”

Kerry spent time doctor shopping for a splinter to get one of his purple hearts as well as self-reported all three. First, he can not put himself up for any medal and in particular I do find a slight difference between needing tweezers and the ‘right’ doctor versus having a knife stuck up to it’s bolster in your chest, in a tunnel, and having to crawl you way back out losing half your blood under ground. Neither did I bring up the crime of shooting an unarmed person, even in combat, that Kerry is also “known” for.

Now, Bozo “the expert” — I will ask you and please provide detail including your extensive military experience as to “I have Sen. Kerry down for three (3) purple hearts and maybe you can define which and why of these he rated.”

BTW, have any pets–I am up for some BBQ today.

      • dbschmidt's avatar dbschmidt May 2, 2012 / 8:47 am

Bozo, and this is directed at you — you stated that “You are REALLY more loyal to your political party than to your fellow soldier?

Where did I mention my political party or any political party at all? Kerry, in my book, is the antithesis of a Soldier (Army), Marine, Air Force, Blue water (Navy) or Brown water (Coast Guard) military person alive but that has nothing do do with a political party of which I never mentioned.

Kerry, like Gore, and Obama (first two in Nam, last in ChiTown) are a trio of pretty boys only doing the very minimum while being protected from any real harm to get their ‘street creds’ in order to advance their careers but I guess you wouldn’t realize that because they are so smart it can’t be measured on any type of human-based scale.

Loser; however, fits you nicely and none of the trio mentioned were ever real soldiers and certainly not one of my “Fellow Marines.”

    • Amazona's avatar Amazona May 1, 2012 / 9:22 pm

mitche is now just plain lying. For example, he claims that the eyewitness accounts of Kerry’s incompetence and cowardice, as well as egomania (taking a movie camera along and restaging events so his crewmates could film him reenacting the action) were “demonstrably false”.

No, they never were proved to be “demonstrably false”. They were disputed by a couple of the guys who also got medals—they ‘witnessed’ Kerry’s amazing feats of heroism, which no one else did, and he then he “witnessed” theirs. But they were not disproved, and in fact the vast weight of eyewitness accounts swamped the paltry and contradictory accounts of the few who supported Kerry.

Starting with the officers who talked about the hissy fit Kerry threw when he learned that the Swift Boat duty had volunteered for had, by the time he got to Viet Nam, been changed from courier duty between shore and offshore ships to riverine duty where, oops, he might actually get shot at, to the testimony of the doctor who was so disgusted by Kerry’s insistence that the doctor remove the tiny sliver Kerry had nursed all the way to the hospital so it would not fall out, and who refused to sign off on it being a “wound” much less gotten in conflict with the enemy. (Kerry hung around till a new doctor came on duty and pitched him a story, and got the signature from him) to nearly everyone who came in contact with Kerry in Viet Nam, the stories were quite consistent.

Sure, Obama admitted that Navy Seals killed Bin Laden, but the whole statement was I me I me my my me I I I. He did not plan it, he did not participate in it, and it was under way before he finally got convinced to officially OK it, but to hear him talk he was the architect, the general, the military strategist, the go-to-guy.

I saw no contempt for Obama, but I saw very little enthusiasm, either. The few in the front were in front because they WERE enthusiastic, but unlike the military who greeted Bush on his surprise visit, the ones a couple of rows back looked pretty bored and unimpressed. And really, after seeing a career Marine thrown out of the service and his entire career trashed and pension lost because he DID show his contempt for Obama, do you really think any other service people are going to be up-front about how they feel? Nope. You nod and smile and make nice because you know the long knives are out for any who dare to disagree.

Let me use a less ambigious word. Nationalism.

Oooh now I get what you mean………

Michelle Obama, in her own words:

Elements of Black culture which make it unique from White culture such as its music, its language, the struggles and a “consciousness” shared by its people may be attributed to the injustices and oppression suffered by this race of people which are not comparable to the experiences of any other race of people through this country’s history. However, with the increasing integration of Blacks into the mainstream society, many “integrated Blacks” have lost touch with the Black culture in their attempts to become adjusted and comfortable in their new culture–the White culture. Some of these Blacks are no longer able to enjoy the qualities which make Black culture so unique or are unable to share their culture openly with other Blacks because they have become so far removed from these experiences and, in some instances, ashamed of them because of their integration.Michelle LaVaughn Robinson [Obama], “Princeton Educated Blacks and the Black Community,” page 54

Barack Hussein Obama, in his own words:

It contradicted the morality my mother had taught me, a morality of subtle distinctions–between individuals of goodwill and those who wished me ill, between active malice and ignorance or indifference. I had a personal stake in that moral framework; I’d discovered that I couldn’t escape it if I tried. And yet perhaps it was a framework that blacks in this country could no longer afford; perhaps it weakened black resolve, encouraged confusion within the ranks. Desperate times called for desperate measures, and for many blacks, times were chronically desperate. If nationalism could create a strong and effective insularity, deliver on its promise of self-respect, then the hurt it might cause well-meaning whites, or the inner turmoil it caused people like me, would be of little consequence. If nationalism could deliver. As it turned out, questions of effectiveness, and not sentiment, caused most of my quarrels with Rafiq. [Rafiq al-Shabazz, a “self-professed [Black] nationalist”]

–Barack Obama, “Dreams From My Father,” pp. 199-200 (paperback edition)

Barack Hussein Obama, in his own words:

That was the problem with people like Joyce [a college classmate of Italian, African-American, Native American, and French ethnicity]. They talked about the richness of their multicultural heritage and it sounced real good, until you noticed that they avoided black people. …The truth was that I understood [Joyce], her and all the other black kids who felt the way she did. In their mannerisms, their speech, their mixed-up hearts, I kept recognizing pieces of myself. And that’s exactly what scared me. Their confusion made me question my own racial credentials all over again. …To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.–Barack Obama, “Dreams From My Father,” pages 99-100

All of the attacks on Bush have been covered, in detail, over the years, and just because there are a few diehard Bush Derangement Syndrome people still seething over his election and service as President is no reason to do the research necessary to rebut the latest, off-rebutted, claims by such as mitche.

But one blog site, ARGGHHH!, had such a great commentary I am going to reprint some of it, with many thanks to the authors, who by the way did not appear to be Bush fans but were dedicated to facts and truth.
      (Emphasis mine)

Bush. F102 Delta Dart. Air National Guard. Vietnam.

I’ve covered my opinion on Bush and his ‘Guard time elsewhere. I’ve covered the fact that the F102 was not an easy, nor safe, aircraft to fly. I’ve explained that the F102 was tried, but found not too useful, in Vietnam. I’ve explained why the AF didn’t choose to take F102 drivers, relatively late in the war, when the air war was already drawing down, and want to convert them to mud mover pilots.

      I’ve done all that.
      ………………………

      F-102, Vietnam & George W. Bush

“It really bothers me that a coward like George W. Bush spent the Vietnam War training to fly old and useless planes in Texas while John Kerry was heroically risking his life in combat and got three purple hearts!”- Jennifer Braun

We normally shy away from the world of politics, but we get variations of this kind of question regularly and feel it necessary to clarify some information. We’ll do our best to avoid bringing our own political biases into this article. At the very least, we’ll attempt to remain as neutral and objective as Michael Moore does in his ironically dubbed “documentary” Fahrenheit 9/11. George W. Bush’s military service began in 1968 when he enlisted in the Texas Air National Guard after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University. The aircraft that he was ultimately trained to fly was the F-102 Delta Dagger. A number of sources have claimed that Bush sought service in the National Guard to avoid being sent to Vietnam, and that the F-102 was a safe choice because it was an obsolete aircraft that would never see any real combat. However, those perceptions turn out to be incorrect, as will be seen shortly.

      F-102 Delta Dagger

As the 1960s continued, many of these aircraft were transferred from the US Air Force to Air National Guard (ANG) units. By 1966, nearly 350 F-102s were being operated by ANG squadrons. A total of 23 ANG units across the US ultimately received the fighter, including squadrons in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. One of the primary ANG units to receive the F-102 was the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS) at Ellington Air National Guard Station, which operated the aircraft from 1965 through 1974. These planes were given responsibility for patrolling the Gulf Coast and intercepting Soviet Tu-95 bombers that regularly flew off the US shore while carrying a payload of nuclear weapons. The 111th was and still is part of the 147th Fighter Wing in Houston, Texas. It was here that George W. Bush was stationed following his enlistment in May 1968. It is a common misconception that the Air National Guard was a safe place for military duty during the Vietnam War. In actuality, pilots from the 147th Fighter Interceptor Group, as it was called at the time, were actually conducting combat missions in Vietnam at the very time Bush enlisted. In fact, F-102 squadrons had been stationed in South Vietnam since March 1962. It was during this time that the Kennedy administration began building up a large US military presence in the nation as a deterrent against North Vietnamese invasion. F-102 squadrons continued to be stationed in South Vietnam and Thailand throughout most of the Vietnam War. The planes were typically used for fighter defense patrols and as escorts for B-52 bomber raids. While the F-102 had few opportunities to engage in its primary role of fighter combat, the aircraft was used in the close air support role starting in 1965. Armed with rocket pods, Delta Daggers would make attacks on Viet Cong encampments in an attempt to harass enemy soldiers. Some missions were even conducted using the aircraft’s heat-seeking air-to-air missiles to lock onto enemy campfires at night. Though these missions were never considered to be serious attacks on enemy activity, F-102 pilots did often report secondary explosions coming from their targets.

F-102s stationed at Okinawa that later saw service in Vietnam

These missions were also dangerous, given the risks inherent to low-level attacks against armed ground troops. A total of 15 F-102 fighters were lost over Vietnam. Three were shot down by anti-aircraft or small arms fire, one was lost in air-to-air combat with a MiG-21, four were destroyed on the ground during Viet Cong attacks, and the remainder were lost in training accidents. Even in peacetime conditions, F-102 pilots risked their lives on every flight. Only highly-qualified pilot candidates were accepted for Delta Dagger training because it was such a challenging aircraft to fly and left little room for mistakes. According to the Air Force Safety Center, the lifetime Class A accident rate for the F-102 was 13.69 mishaps per 100,000 flight hours, much higher than the average for today’s combat aircraft. For example, the F-16 has an accident rate of 4.14, the S-3 is at 2.6, the F-15 at 2.47, the F-18 at 4.9, and the F-117 at 4.07. Even the AV-8B, regarded as the most dangerous aircraft in service today, has an accident rate of only 11.05 mishaps per 100,000 flight hours. The F-102 claimed the lives of many pilots, including a number stationed at Ellington during Bush’s tenure. Of the 875 F-102A production models that entered service, 259 were lost in accidents that killed 70 Air Force and ANG pilots. Nevertheless, we have established that the F-102 was serving in combat in Vietnam at the time Bush enlisted to become an F-102 pilot. In fact, pilots from the 147th FIG of the Texas ANG were routinely rotated to Vietnam for combat duty under a program called “Palace Alert” from 1968 to 1970. Palace Alert was an Air Force program that sent qualified F-102 pilots from the ANG to bases in Europe or southeast Asia for periods of three to six months for frontline duty. Fred Bradley, a friend of Bush’s who was also serving in the Texas ANG, reported that he and Bush inquired about participating in the Palace Alert program. However, the two were told by a superior, MAJ Maurice Udell, that they were not yet qualified since they were still in training and did not have the 500 hours of flight experience required. Furthermore, ANG veteran COL William Campenni, who was a fellow pilot in the 111th FIS at the time, told the Washington Times that Palace Alert was winding down and not accepting new applicants. After being accepted into the ANG, Airman Basic Bush was selected to attend pilot training. His six weeks of basic training was completed at Lackland AFB in Texas during July and August of 1968. Upon its completion, Bush was promoted to the officer’s rank of second lieutenant. He spent the next year in flight school at Moody AFB in Georgia from November 1968 to November 1969. The aircraft Lt. Bush trained aboard were the T-41 Mescelero propeller-driven basic trainer and the T-38 Talon primary jet trainer. He also completed two weeks of survival training during this period. Bush then returned to Ellington in Texas to complete seven months of combat crew training on the F-102 from December 1969 to June 1970. This period included five weeks of training on the T-33 Shooting Star and 16 weeks aboard the TF-102 Delta Dagger two-seat trainer and finally the single-seat F-102A. Bush graduated from the training program in June 1970. The previously mentioned Maurice Udell was a flight instructor for Lt. Bush who was interviewed by the Associated Press in February 2004. MAJ Udell recalled that Bush was one of his best students saying that, “I’d rank him in the top five percent.”

As he was completing training and being certified as a qualified F-102 pilot, Bush’s squadron was a likely candidate to be rotated to Vietnam. However, the F-102 was built for a type of air combat that wasn’t seen during that conflict, and the plane was withdrawn from southeast Asia in December 1969. The F-102 was instead returned to its primary role of providing air defense for the United States. In addition, the mission of Ellington AFB, where Bush was stationed, was also changing from air defense alert to training all F-102 pilots in the US for Air National Guard duty. Lt. Bush remained in the ANG as a certified F-102 pilot who participated in frequent drills and alerts through April of 1972. By this time, the 147th Fighter Wing was also beginning to transition from the F-102 to the F-101F, an updated version of the F-101B used primarily for air defense patrols. Furthermore, the war in Vietnam was nearing its end and the US was withdrawing its forces from the theater. Air Force personnel returning to the US created a glut of active-duty pilots, and there were not enough aircraft available to accommodate all of the qualified USAF and ANG pilots. Since USAF personnel had priority for the billets available, many of the Air National Guard pilots whose enlistments were nearly complete requested early release. The ANG was eager to fulfill these requests because there was not enough time to retrain F-102 pilots to operate new aircraft before their enlistments were up anyway. Bush was one of those forced out by the transition, and he was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in October 1973, eight months before his six-year enlistment was complete. Bush had approximately 600 flight hours by the time he completed his military service. In the fall of 1973, Bush began coursework at the Harvard Business School where he received an MBA in 1975.

George W. Bush during his service with the Air National Guard

The point of this discussion is that the military record of George W. Bush deserves a fair treatment. Bush has been criticized for avoiding service in Vietnam, though the evidence proves that the Texas Air National Guard and its F-102 pilots where serving in Vietnam while Bush was in training. Bush has been criticized for using his family influence to obtain his assignment, but the evidence shows that he successfully completed every aspect of the more than two years of training required of him. Bush has been criticized for pursuing a safe and plush position as a fighter pilot, but the evidence indicates the F-102 was a demanding aircraft whose pilots regularly risked their lives. Bush has also been criticized for deserting the Guard before his enlistment was complete, but the evidence shows he was honorably discharged eight months early because his position was being phased out. This is not to say that there exist no points of contention in Bush’s record worthy of criticism. There are indeed some irregularities from April 1972 to May 1973 that indicate he may not have completed his responsibilities as a National Guardsman. However, these allegations have been fully investigated in the past and were found to lack credibility. Both the New York Times and the Boston Globe investigated Bush’s military service and concluded that “Bush logged numerous hours of duty, well above the minimum requirements for so-called ‘weekend warriors.'”

I only refer to the military records of non-serving Presidents because of the rabidly radical Left’s use of the vile term “chicken hawk” to describe not just leaders who have not served but a leader who served honorably and well but did not see combat.

It is just fun to watch you guys, you hurlers of the “chicken hawk” epithet, spazz out when it is pointed out that one of your heroes was not only a draft dodger but went abroad to diss his own country, and another probably never even registered for Selective Service.

I personally do not think that military service is a requisite for serving well as President or Commander in Chief. I do, however, think that respect for the military, understanding of threats to this nation, and commitment to the Constitution must be.

I correct myself: Bush never went through with signing on with Palace Guard, for reasons stated in my lengthy quote.

Yes, I did know that the F-102 was used in Viet Nam. I also knew, before I found the quote I cited, that it was being phased out in the first few years of the 70’s, just as I knew that returning pilots who needed to keep up their flight hours were competing with ANG pilots for air time. I evidently know a lot more than you about this topic. I also think that some military terms should be used by those who have earned the right by serving, not picked up by wannabes.

Why did the framers make the military subservient to civilian control? Did you really ask that question? Are you serious? Gee, let’s look at the alternative—–citizens subject to military rule. Funny that you seem to find the first option in need of explaining and justification.

Enemy documents from 1971 show that Vietnamese communists guided the American antiwar movement via meetings between the communist delegations to the Paris Peace talks and American antiwar activists. John Kerry and the VVAW were working toward the exact goals set forth in the communist directives.

Read about it in John Kerry and the VVAW: Hanoi’s American Puppets? by Dr. Jerome Corsi and Scott Swett.

        ———-

In Yesterday’s Lies: Steve Pitkin and the Winter Soldiers, Scott Swett tells the story of a former VVAW member and participant in the Winter Soldier Investigation who has now filed an affidavit stating that John Kerry and others pressured him to give false testimony about American atrocities in Vietnam.

In the smash best-seller Unfit for Command, John O’Neill presents eyewitness accounts from Kerry’s fellow Swift sailors that demolish his tales of combat heroism, while Dr. Jerry Corsi draws on the WinterSoldier.com research and other new material to expose Kerry’s radical activities as a leader of the VVAW.

John Kerry’s photograph hangs in the War Protestors Hall of the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City — an indication of the value the Vietnamese communists place on Kerry’s support of their efforts during the Vietnam War.

FNC: Bush Volunteered for Vietnam, CBS’s Mapes Knowingly Omitted from Story

      By Brad Wilmouth | August 25, 2009 |

On Tuesday, FNC’s The O’Reilly Factor hosted FNC analyst Bernard Goldberg as the former CBS News correspondent highlighted a story recently posted on his Web site, BernardGoldberg.com, in which he complains of how little mainstream media attention was given to the fact that former President George W. Bush had volunteered to go to Vietnam as part of his service in the Texas Air National Guard, but that he was turned down because other pilots were more experienced,

and that CBS News producer Mary Mapes, even though she knew this part of the story before the report aired, did not include this important angle in the infamous piece by Dan Rather that used forged documents to paint Bush as trying to avoid Vietnam War service.

On his Web site, BernardGoldberg.com, Goldberg chastizes Mapes:

However the complexities and seeming contradictions are interpreted, if Bush at any point had volunteered to fly combat missions in Vietnam – as the CBS investigation unequivocally states — how then could he have been a slacker? The clear answer is that he could not –

Until you have tail-hooked a landing or have been launched of a carrier (2 different carriers in my case as a ‘passenger’) you will never understand. I will help you with the basic information that the “flight suit” is a requirement because the primary duty of the “flight suit costume” is to force the blood out of your extremities so the pilot and “passenger” do not black out during the extreme conditions. Smash head on into an concrete embankment at approx. 160 mph in your car and then talk to me.

Save me the trouble, just leave, grow-up, and maybe gain some insight before you reappear in another post as such an ass-muncher as you appear now.

      Semper Fi.

Come on Mitch, you should know. how many ‘trip’ arresting wires here are on an A/C, which is preferred on to hook and why? On launch, how many G’ forces does the average pilot/passenger take or feel prior to leaving the deck? What is the make it / break it point off a modern carrier? Simple shit for MENSA members plus Rhodes Scholars like you. Wasn’t President Clinton a Rhodes member before the deferments and the trip to mother Russia?

Maybe you should pack up your lunch bag and admit that all ‘education’ does not come from an ivory tower–some comes from having a set of balls, a backbone, the willingness to apply more than one’s self to the task at hand–all of which are missing from President Obama unless they are in the Mooch’s purse.

Ol’ mitche is still claiming that the flight suit was a “costume” even after I posted at 12:56 pm And their delicate little panties were in quite a twist because Bush looked so good in that flight suit, so they claimed he had donned it just to make a false impression. Of course, all thinking people knew it was not just a costume but mandatory for anyone in such a plane, and even people like Diane (Klingon) Sawyer had been fitted for one before being allowed to do a ride-along.

We’ve been through all of this before but mitche doesn’t care about facts or reason. mitche just likes to bitche, and a fine unmanly job he does of it, too. mitche’s type will always sneer and snipe at real men, and grovel at the feet of effeminate elitists like Obama. You smugly say that the F-102 was a “tough airframe to master” and then you claim you don’t know why anyone flying in a jet fighter has to wear a flight suit. ObAMATEUR just happened to be in the “chair” when the opportunity arose to “get him”. The system and the infrastructure that got Osama are the ones who deserve credit.

He unfortunately fought and opposed the system that gave him the accolade he is pathetically and predictably trying to claim.

“EARS the right politicized 9/11 to scare the public into accepting such things as the Patriot Act, torture, etc.”

oh, those things that obAMATEUR has allowed to continue after beating his chest against.

Please bitchie go whine somewhere else like the dailyKOS or democraticunderground. There you will be among friends and colleagues who are equally mindless.

There is no outrage, there is no indignation. There is nothing but contempt and mockery for this phony who is putting his feet up on the peoples furniture. Putting your nasty ass shoes up on furniture that does not belong to you shows a complete comtempt for those that invited you in.

It might just take a six pack of Killians Red on Nov 6 but I am of the mind to revoke the little dog eaters invitation to put his feet up on the the peoples furniture.

    • Amazona's avatar Amazona May 2, 2012 / 12:10 am

You tell us, baggy. You explain to us why it took weeks or months for Barry to step up and make the decision, once the intel had Bin Laden located, and why it was necessary for Panetta and the military to go ahead and let him catch up, nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof about the reaming he knew he would be getting from Jarrett.

You just fill us in on that, m’kay?

Yeah, freakzo, just look at how fast radical Islam would have quit targeting us if we had only gotten OBL sooner. I mean, look how simple it was, or at least could have been. If Bush had just devoted all the resources of the West to hunting down this one man, there would have been no further attacks on All That Is Not Islam, right?

‘Cause of him being the end-all and be-all of Islamic jihad and all, the spark plug without which no terror attacks could happen, Superman, the almighty and impotent Osama Bin Laden, the stuff of which legends are made, blah blah blah.

‘Cause the Koran doesn’t really instruct Muslims to kill all nonbelievers, or that the 12th Imam can only return when the world is in chaos and blood runs in the streets. No, it really says Muslims can only kill if they have one single iconic figure to lead them—-right?

Well, you PL trolls did your best to make him into a legend, a rallying point, bigger than life, elevating him to near-godlike stature. Rational people tried to dial it back a little, recognize him as a figurehead but not the sum total and complete focus of all our efforts. But no, you people had to take a man and make him a legend, had to bray incessantly about how he was more important than anything else in the whole conflict, had to build him up into epic importance, had to expand his otherwise limited power into being a rallying point for equally identity-dependent losers from the Islamic side who couldn’t be bothered with ideology but who COULD be drawn to an iconic figurehead.

(…….losers who couldn’t be bothered with ideology but who COULD be drawn to an iconic figurehead……now why does that sound so familiar?)

But then we could expect nothing more from you identity hounds, you who can’t tell the difference between identity and purpose, you who paddle around furiously on the surface of whatever is going on looking for PEOPLE to focus on, because that is so much easier than understanding the reality of the whole.

Oh, I’m glad he’s gone. Especially after you made him a lightning rod for the hate-filled disaffected loser who could see him as a means to glory, he needed to be taken out. It’s just funny that you all are so blind to the fact that his stature was created by you and your kind.

Obama had known for several weeks of the location of Bin Laden, and had done nothing. He intended to continue to do nothing, and was finally pushed into approving the action because it was already under way and he would look like an impotent doofus if he didn’t.

I have wondered if his intent/hope was to stall long enough to get the takedown closer to the election. A year and a half before the election leaves plenty of time for the drama to wear off.

After all, OBL seemed to be pretty well settled in, and wasn’t going anywhere, right? All comfy and cozy with his wives and his porn and the protection of the Paki police and military, he’d sit tight till, oh, maybe October of 2012, right?

        Barry could only hope.

But hope, like change, is a vague and unpredictable thing, and then there was that pushy broad Hillary and that uppity Panetta, and when they went ahead without him he had no choice but to try to play catch-up and say “Yeah, that’s what I told them to do”.

Damn. The Senate was so much easier. All you had to do was vote “Present” or hide in the coat room till after the vote. And people weren’t raggin’ on you all the time. But the perks weren’t all that great………

Looks like any fears I or anyone else may have had about the new round of Occupy protests were unfounded. On a humorous note, I think the guy at around the 2:20 mark of the video is probably one of our Lefty trolls — Wally would be my guess.

    • Amazona's avatar Amazona May 2, 2012 / 10:14 am

Nah, none of the interviewees was wild-eyed crazy and foul-mouthed enough to be Wally. Silly, vapid, mindless, brainwashed (though that would be a quick job) and above all, clueless, but not seething with impotent rage like Wally.

I loved the guy who whined about making minimum wage and how his ‘solution’ is not to expand his skill set to be worth more money to an employer but just to have someone GIVE him more stuff.

(I wonder if he, too would like a career—but not a job.)

As for intellectual content, any of the interviewees could be any one of our resident trolls—they were pretty much interchangeable with our group, as far as ability to engage in a coherent discussion.

Just curious, though—-how and where is Bank of America trying to destroy a mountain? And why?

I don’t think there was anything unseemly about Obama doing a victory lap in Afghanistan; it was reminiscent of the Happy Snoopy Dance Chimpy McBushitler did in front of the cameras when he took all the credit for capturing Saddam Hussein. Remember? That speech where he never mentioned the military once? Spoke endlessly about the personal risk he was taking by ordering the soldiers into a war zone and how his political career could have ended if somebody was killed or injured.

Besides, Obama was heroic! It isn’t enough that he risked his personal comfort and career by witnessing giving the command to execute the operation; but did you see the videos of him after it all went pear-shaped? Rushing into that compound with no regard for his personal safety; grabbing up those two Navy Seals-one under each arm and dragging that heavy file cabinet full of al Qaeda secrets with his teeth, stopping only to destroy the downed helicopter with a pistol, a hammer and a rusty spoon, then jumping from the parapets with his comrades, the secrets and the dignity of a nation to the hovering aircraft as it began pulling away.

You can’t make this stuff up!
