There has been a disturbing string of stories involving how Obama has managed to pass the financial burden of his campaign visits to other people.
Taxpayers, to start, have had to foot the bill for his fundraisers when Obama conveniently combines fundraising trips with official White House visits.
Today it was reveal that Obama’s campaign outright refused to cover the costs of a campaign visit to New Hamsphire, leaving the town of Dunham, already suffering in Obama’s economy, to figure out how to pay for everything involved in beefing up security for the visit. Lucky for the city, an anonymous donor came out to bail out the Obama campaign. Though this issue is far from settled, as this raises all sorts of question about in-kind contributions, and such.
A reality of a presidential campaign is that taxpayer funded resources are made available to a sitting president running for reelection. That said, there is a difference between uses those resources, and abusing them.
But telling a town to go screw, forcing them in an already bad economy that has been exasperated by Obama’s tenure to pull together an extra $20,000… that’s pretty low.
Despite Obama’s clever avoidance and outright refusal to pay campaign expenses, his campaign is spending more than it takes in.
Of course, if you are planning a wedding, you can forgo gifts and ask your guests to donate to his campaign instead… he needs it more than you, after all… despite his shifting the burden of his travel and security on the taxpayers and cash-strapped towns, his standings in the polls haven’t exactly improved.
UPDATE, by Mark Noonan: Seems that Obama is sucking up so much Democrat money (and blowing through it so fast) that our Donks can’t raise enough money to pay for their Convention.
Someone tell me, again, how there are indicators that this will be a close-fought campaign and that the advantage is with Obama …

Actually, I doubt that an “Anonymous Donor” to Mitt Romney or a GOP superpak WOULD be George Soros or a muslim oil sheik. Just a guess here, but I would venture to say they would not mean the same at all.

I have to admit the wedding angle was a bit much. When I read that story I couldn’t believe it – I mean who in the hell does Obama think he is? Of course this was most likely the brain child of a staffer, but still, the nerve that it takes to put Obama’s interests over that of a newlywed couple is beyond belief. It actually has a lot of creepy messianic over tones to it.
How dramatically things have changed in just 3 1/2 years. The absence of liberals singing the praises for the messiah speaks volumes as to where his re election prospects are. It wasn’t but just a year ago even that liberals were gushing over the deft leadership of Obama and were quick to excoriate anyone who disagreed usually with the race card, but now? Now, there is a whole lot of disappointment, and even liberals are running out of defenses for the incompetent, ego maniacal child in the white house.
I look forward to the day when the people of this country once again applaud those who are successful, who once again look towards charity and their community for help when in need rather than the government, who once again don’t immediately judge someone simply because of their skin color, who don’t blame others for their problems, who understand right from wrong, and who understand what American exceptionalism is all about. Under this president, we seem to be a long way away from that ideal.

When I was young, we were told to look to the successful for inspiration,for proof that we, too, could achieve if we applied ourselves. Now people are told not to try to rise to the level of the successful but to drag the successful down to their level. This corruption of the American Dream is coyly referred to in such terms as “social justice” and “leveling the playing field”.
I grew up not only believing in the ideal of a colorblind society which, as MLK himself dreamed of, judged people by their character and not by the color of their skin. Now we learn that many of the people we thought had the same goal have really been bitterly clinging to outdated race-based hatreds and resentments and have, in addition, been judging others on the color of THEIR skin. Now we live in a nation where racial divisiveness is a political tool openly used by the President of the United States and his administration, making the ideal of a colorblind nation a lost dream.
I grew up in a world where the community and the church took care of their own, and where there was a certain healthy sense, not exactly of shame but of desire to move beyond needing this help, which was provided by people one knew. Now there is no personal connection, and there is no sense of responsibility or shame, as far-distant politicians hand out charity money in exchange for votes and this largesse is distributed via anonymous credit cards so no one is ever identified as one taking it.
The lack of personal responsibility and accountability, and the erosion of consequences for bad behavior and bad decisions, have diminished this nation and its people, and it is sad to see.
