VP Debate Open Thread

I didn’t watch the VP debate!

Sorry, just couldn’t. Padres were playing Game 1 against the Braves. Keep everything in perspective! And the Padres won it 4-0. They are genuine Series contenders.

Anyways, I did follow along on X and I got the flavor of it – Walz is a knucklehead who’s friends with school shooters while Vance was like a wrecking ball fighting off both Vance and the “moderators”. We really have to stop having debates with MSMers running the show. First question should have been about inflation. Second about Ukraine. Third about immigration. Fourth about the Middle East. And that’s it – those are the issues that matter. Asking about climate change and J6 is just ridiculous.

But we live in a ridiculous age, don’t we?

This debate will not move the needle – VP debates never do. People don’t vote for the understudy. Ever. But I think that Vance’s overall performance solidified things for Trump. The MSM has been calling him weird and making him out to be some sort of woman-hating creep and he came across tonight as clearly informed and in command of the issues. People now know that if Trump wins then if anything happens, a fully competent person will immediately take charge. For Harris…not so much. Walz revealed himself as someone who is only possible in a hot-house Liberal atmosphere and only as long as he’s protected by the Media. He was protected again tonight but he still had to get out there…and while he wasn’t Biden-like in his performance, he clearly is not ready for the national stage. More and more it becomes obvious that he was picked because he was the only guy who would accept – nobody with real ambition and ability wanted to be tied to Harris.

I remain as I have since July: confident of victory. All real metrics are showing Trump strength – only some of the polling shows any chance for Harris, and even that is starting to waver as pollsters start to be concerned about future credibility and so start hedging their bets. People are tired; they do want a new way forward…and Team Harris’ attempt to make out that she hasn’t been in charge over the past 4 years has fallen flat. She can’t convince enough people that those who made the problem can fix it.

I would have been willing to watch more than a few minutes if there had been honest moderators. I really thought that after the abuse the last “moderators” got these two would be too ashamed to pull the same BS and would want to rise above the blatant tongue bathing of Democrat candidates. But clearly they are incapable of shame. That snide little aside about BTW “scientists agree” that the planet temperature is rising is not only wrong, not only a lie, but such a transparent effort to help the Left that it took me only a couple of seconds to say “Next!” and find a good show on Netflix.

OK, Republicans, we’ve made our point. Many times. From now on we start every campaign with clips from these last two “debates” as the reason no more debates will be held featuring hack pseudo-journalists as moderators. Any future debate will be on neutral territory, written questions, no interaction with a moderator, no PC questions.

I’m lost on why Republicans continue to agree on debates that are obviously going to be in hostile territory with moderators who are intent on doing whatever they can to influence the outcome in favor of the Democrats. Any attempt by the left to push the narrative that those on the right are afraid to debate unless done on their terms, should throw it right back at them that they can’t handle an honest debate. I can’t even come up with a plausible reason to intentionally go into enemy territory, knowing you will be attacked with lies and defamation. I guess one might suggest, going into the lions den is a way to sharpen your skills, which is why the left quite often look like befuddled idiots as they rarely face similar hostilities in these debates, but whatever value gained for Republicans doesn’t seem worth it on the surface.

i think there are now enough clips just from this current campaign cycle to run a whole series of ads starting with the midterms illustrating not just bias on the part of these faux “journalists” but overt efforts to influence the outcome of an election—which, BTW, is the core of the NY law used against Trump, that the minor offense he committed was committed with the intent of influencing the outcome of the election.

If the Right does manage to pull off a sizable win in Congress, I would like to see legislation that news media have their special protections as long as they serve the public by objectively presenting the news, but that when a company uses the pretense of a news operation to promote a political agenda its efforts are judged to be campaign contributions.

I dare say it was Walz that came off as ‘weird’.

    • Amazona's avatar Amazona October 2, 2024 / 9:38 am

He’s not even a good liar, though he certainly did try. A lot. He came across as petty and mean-spirited and just plain unpleasant, while Vance appeared to be just setting the record straight in a calm and professional manner.

Childers referred to Walz as appearing “crazier than a sprayed roach” in today’s column, some of which I quoted, above, but all of which deserves a read, which is what we have come to expect from Childers. I recommend subscribing to it.

Jeff Childers has an article on the flooding associated with Hurricane Helene: You may remember Spook posting last year about this underwater volcanic eruption. Childers also makes a good point about helping those affected by the disaster, which in and of itself makes another good point—-emphasis mine:

The problem was all the water.

Last year, I reported on the Hunga Tonga undersea volcanic eruption — the most significant climate event in modern history, which you never heard of since corporate media is utterly useless. I included all the evidence in my July, 2023 post “Overheated” (though many of the links have since been deleted or fact-check bombed, it’s all there.).  The short version is, a massive underwater volcanic eruption in the South Pacific boiled off literally unimaginable amounts of water, measurably increasing water vapor rates worldwide.

Water in the air (“humidity”) creates heat. So my point in 2023 was about the record hot summer that year. Studies I linked in the article (now very difficult to find) forecast elevated temperatures for years from Hunga Tonga moisture — worldwide.

But there was a bigger concern than a couple degrees of extra temperature: What goes up must come down. All that extra vaporized water has been showing up in recent extreme weather events.

Gorilla hail and record worldwide flooding are both signs of boiled sea water returning to ground. North Carolina’s damage wasn’t because of high wind speeds. Helene had slowed considerably by the time it traveled that far north. No, the worst damage was from floods, rockslides, and mudslides.

In other words, from the water.

Note for HAARP watchers: I’m suggesting that Hunga Tonga is where all the water came from. How turbo hurricanes start, and where they go after they start, is a completely different question.

Regarding government policy, yesterday’s top suggestion was to give Hurricane Helene survivors protected refugee status, like the Haitians. In other words: free cell phones, debit cards, monthly allowances, food stamps, health care, home-buying credits, rent subsidies, and all the rest. Just for 12 months.

I’m wondering, could we do that for our own citizens? What if they dressed up in colorful native garb? Do they have to eat the cats?

Do they have to eat the cats?

Someone put together a great video of cats to show how cats in Ohio reacted to the news of Haitian immigrants eating pets. I laugh every time I watch it. Be sure to have your speakers on…the music is important. The yellow and white acrobat cat is a favorite.

OTOH, our government is already using this storm to politicize climate change.

“Our best estimate is that climate change caused over 50% more rainfall during Hurricane Helene in some parts of Georgia and the Carolinas,”

report released by researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Based on this government report, CNN ran the following story soon after the hurricane:

CNN reported that scientific “modeling” estimates that “climate change …caused by fossil fuel pollution” was responsible for Hurricane Helene’s severity…

The Weather Channel and other MSM outlets also published similar stories.

Being an Occam’s Razor kind of person, I am far more convinced by the “what goes up must come down” theory of why there was so much rain, rather than the unproven speculation that “fossil fuel pollution” ( a nicely vague and nonspecific “cause”) has put more moisture in the air to condense and fall to earth.

A huge issue now – and Team Trump is already exploiting it – is the revelation that huge sums of money were spent by FEMA to build migrant centers while Harris announced they’re sending $750.00 to the victims of Helene. Nothing better captures the utter contempt our government has for us. If Team Trump can get that into some good ads, I think it might cause a huge drop in Dem turnout as Dem-Lean voters just decide not to participate further.

How crazy/vicious are the Left in their frantic and obsessive pursuit of power, which these days is focused on destroying Donald Trump? Well, the Left circulated a faked image of Hitler and linked it to an iconic image of Trump taken immediately after his near-death due to an assassination attempt. The Trump image was so powerful that the Left rushed to discredit it, flooding the Internet with various claims that it was staged, it was an imitation of a Hitler photograph, that there had not been an attempt on his life at all, etc—-the usual gamut of Leftist lies and propaganda.

Even Snopes addressed the way this video was created. One thing I found interesting, though not surprising, and common when you look at the integrity of so many Lib posts, was one comment that the poster “thought that photo of Hitler looked familiar”. Well, it couldn’t “look familiar” because it never existed until it was cobbled together out of different photos, with Hitler himself disassembled and put back together facing the other way with his arm relocated, and two other people pasted in.

Do I detect a trend here:

Thanks for this. I wanted to post it but couldn’t get it copied. It is brilliant.

This is the most likely cause of the unprecedented rain with Helene. And it’s a completely natural phenomenon

The underwater eruption in the South Pacific Ocean also blasted an enormous plume of water vapor into Earth’s stratosphere – enough to fill more than 58,000 Olympic-size swimming pools. The sheer amount of water vapor could be enough to temporarily affect Earth’s global average temperature.

On another note, I can’t wait to vote for JD Vance as President. He showed me on Tuesday that he is everything this country needs …. young, conservative, smart, composed, measured, strong, and principled. And Vance just won the election for Trump by showing all those squishy Nikki Haley voters that MAGA offers more than they think we do. Add this to the unmitigated disaster FEMA is in their response to Helene, and how indifferent Kamala is to the dock strike. It’s obvious that Biden and Harris really don’t give a shit about this country

I am feeling very good about this election

    • Amazona's avatar Amazona October 3, 2024 / 1:14 pm

Kamala is actually supporting the dock strike.

Vice President Kamala Harris picked a side in the port workers’ labor dispute on Wednesday, saying she supports the striking longshoremen

So much for worrying about its impact on Americans, especially now after this massive disaster and its damages—there might be some longshoreman and other union votes to harvest.

      • Cluster's avatar Cluster October 3, 2024 / 4:08 pm

I read a report about a local reporter who was doing a report on the strike and was in front a lot of ILA members, and they were asked if they are voting for Kamala …. not one person raised their hand. LOL. I am quite sure over 90% of Teamsters and Long Shoreman will be voting Trump
