A Liberal Is…

…someone who won’t allow his best friend to tell him not to have a one night stand, but who will allow a government bureaucrat to run his health care…

I guess John McCain is a liberal then, since he’s allowed a government bureaucrat to run his health care for his entire adult life. Must have been good health care too, since he feels fit enough to enter the presidency at the ripe old age of 72.

  • 2. Mark Noonan  |  June 24th, 2008 at 1:55 am

    extra,

He’s a retired, wounded combat veteran…his health care is the donation of a grateful nation. Far different from you liberals wanting everyone’s health care handled by an Obama appointee in DC…

  • 3. Ken  |  June 24th, 2008 at 4:31 am

The medical benefits that retired military vets have is earned. To draw VA/Military health care, one has to have either served at least 20 years in the military or be medically retired from the military. Even then it is not really free. TriCare still has service charges and annal fees that need to be paid if it is it is TriCare Basic or TriCare Prime.

There is no such thing as free health care. One way or the other, either through private payments or though higher taxes, there is a cost.

A liberal is just another political viewpoint. If we do as some Republic Party members want and get rid of the Democratic party (And all other parties), we are left with a fascist dictatorship or a similar monster.

Yep You do not want to hear this but having only one party is exactly the same as a Fascist Dictatorship or even a communist Dictatorship. (Or even a Theocracy) Yell at me all you want, Liberal viewpoint is very valid and just as valid as the republic viewpoint.

If a Government Health care system were to be funded properly and have an independent ombudsman who could override Congress and veto bizzare spending measures or even attempts to restrict health care under a single government system, we would have a good health care system. One way to make it work is to take 2 trillion dollars from the Defense budget (Which is like 4.5 trillion, after you add in the black projects (That do not appear on the budget for Defense for so-called national security reasons) unannounced request for more money (Like the 165 billion for the war which the demo-publicans caved into and rolled over and got into lock step with the george administration. Funny, you all can afford 165 billion for a useless, pointless and worthless war but not 30 billion OVER 10 YEARS to help children with health care) end useless wars (Like the george war in Iraq), Retire 7 Nuclear Carriers and build no new ones etc) But what will happen is something similar to Welfare. The Republic Party deliberately underfunded it so to make it fail. It was working in the early years till the Republics, with corporation of the Demo-Publicans in the 1970’s undercut the budget for Welfare (The Demo-publicans could had easily blocked the Republic request to cut the budget for Welfare but they did not) and then cut the number of centers where people could apply.

Get over it republics, move on!

  • 5. extramedium  |  June 24th, 2008 at 7:22 am

    Mark-

His health care has still been managed by government bureaucrats, and has apparently served him well.

And you regard the VA as a system of donation disbursement from a grateful nation? It’s a government-run benefit system, funded by obligatory tax dollars - just like Pell Grants and food stamps. Such spin!

I thought your whole issue with government managed health care was that it would compromise choice or quality of care. It now sounds as though you are more concerned with whether somebody deserves to have health care. How sad. It must really get your goat when the fire department shows up at somebody’s house who pays less taxes than you do. They surely don’t deserve to be rescued as much as you do!

“some Republic Party members want and get rid of the Democratic party (And all other parties)” MS

Can you provide names or is this just another one of your baseless assertions?

On the other hand, there are many prominent libs who wish to stifle all dissenting opinion to theirs. The Global Climate Change crowd are a perfect example of this. To have a dissenting opinion is not just unacceptable…its a CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY!!…worthy of prosecution.

The thought police from the former soviet Socialist Republic are alive and well in the “Green movement”.

For example, James Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute of Space Sciences who is sometimes called the godfather of global warming science, recently called for the PROECUTION of oil executives who have cast doubt on his precious theory of man made global warming. It seems that these enviro extremists are becoming more vocal and more alarmist as each day goes by, spreading fear that civilization will come to an end unless we pay obesience to their God, Terra, their savior, ALGORE, and their various prophets of which Hansen has been recognized by leftists in Congress.

OBTW, it is impossible for two opposing viewpoints to both be valid, if valid is defines as true or correct. That does not preclude opposing viewpoints from being espoused by their proponents, unless of course, one wishes to prosecute the other for merely stating theirs.

This describes the wingnut view about dissent against the war. Are you arguing that such a reaction is a bad thing? I sure hope you are…but I imagine you only believe so selectively.

    A liberal is…..

    scared of the truth.

trained to beleive that the truth about themselves is a smear and smears against non-liberal opponents are “concerns”.

    scared of being a liberal.

scared of “climate change” and not terrorists.

rarely educated in government schools, while expecting everyone else to be.

one who flies on private jets, rides in limosines, drives SUVs, while wanting everyone else to walk or take public transportation.

one who lives in a home that consumes 12x the power and produces 12x the CO2 emissions than your average American, pays himself on “carbon credits” and expects others to sacrifice and do without.

one who says that we consume too much oil/gas/power and that other countries will object and at the same time dismiss the fact that we produce more than any other country.

one who moans about those individuals who outsources labor and place their corporate headquarters out of country and at the same time shelters his personal fortune in foreign banks to avoid paying inheritance taxes when he kicks the bucket.

I could keep going but it would be an exercise in futility, since liberals hate the truth about themselves.

Tractus, Please name ONE person who has called for the prosecution of war protesters. This is another one of your leftist BS lines that has absolutely NO SUBSTANCE.

Where do you leftists come up with this stuff? Is it a consequence of drug induced stupor or just an imature overactive imagination?

  • 11. Tractatus  |  June 24th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Tractus, Please name ONE person who has called for the prosecution of war protesters.

A simple Google search of this site (or of blogsforbush.com) will provide you with plenty of folks demanding the arrest of protesters. Not to mention Mark’s charmingly stupid “From Dissent to Treason” threads in which he attempted to argue that war dissenters are traitors and therefore subject to punishment. Of course, he utterly failed in his attempt, but he attempted it nonetheless.

“Where do you come up with this stuff?” is apparently wingnutese for “I wish you wouldn’t point out the obvious.” Sorry you find the truth so offensive, phnx. I hope you will distance yourself from the antics of your fellow wingers on this one. Will you?

    BarrASSOLE,

Yes, but these liberals are in positions of influence and power.

But, of course, I would not expect someone with their lips glued to said liberals ass to realize that and not getting anything in return.

To you, a liberal is a mindless lemming. One who lets other liberals piss on his leg and believe it when they tell him it’s raining.

Another liberal afraid of the truth. Why is that?

  • 13. phnx  |  June 24th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

the problem with the health care system in the US is the insurance industry….it sucks up 31% of some 3 trillion dollars americans spend on health care every year…over 66 billion dollars on overhead for companies to deny your claims and sqeeze hospitals and doctors for every penny they can deny…

you ever paid a hospital bill? the hospital charges insurance companies 28% less than a cash customer….go figure…we get screwed by the insurance agencies…and the hospitals get 72% less than they charge us….and one of the best jobs in the world is the insurance salesman who is vested with a guaranteed income after only a few years in the industry….

dont take no college degree to lie to folks….face it…they are just like politicians…..

the candidate that faces down the insurance lobby and forces its reform is the one I want for president….where the he!! is he?

Right like you reposting lies from Obama’s two books. That crap is going to get Obama elected. All you have to do is keep telling people he swore his oath on a Koran or that his daughters dress in headscarves or that his wife called Bush “Whitey.” That’s gonna get a 72 year old man elected.

Conservative fundamentalism is about lying to people to gain their trust and then getting as much money out of them as is possible. Politics is built on making promises and trying as hard as possible to keep as many as possible. Not about being all things to all people. The electorate is mature enough in America to know that everything isn’t going to be roses and picnics immediately, but this constant Smear Campaign. Imagine if Liberals were doing some of those things to Cindy McCain like you guys did to her in 2000? Rove’s push poll people almost gave her a nervous breakdown after South Carolina. Now are you going to blame making that lady cry on Liberals or are you gonna own up to the nastiness of your so-called Christian president’s blind ambition to get and keep power?

“THE PERSON WHO MADE ME PROUDEST OF ALL, THOUGH, WAS MY [half brother], ROY..HE CONVERTED TO ISLAM”.

From ‘Audacity of Hope: “LOLO (Obama’s step father) FOLLOWED ISLAM….”I LOOKED TO LOLO

are they all lies? probably not…but your accusations are freddy…mental midgets are liberals…they always lie…read the blog on them.

    A Liberal is:

    - NOT always what Mark Noonan and other neocons like to assume that they are

    - NOT always a Godless heathen

    - NOT always someone without morals who “won’t allow his best friend to tell him not to have a one night stand, but who will allow a government bureaucrat to run his health care”

    - NOT always the stereotype Mark and others would like us to believe so that they can feed their own egos

    A Liberal may be:

    - Someone who is sick of some Conservatives telling them they are wrong and going to Hell because they do not believe in the Christian God and all Conservative ideas

    - Someone who is sick of some Conservatives telling them they are Anti-American because they believe that American can do better than it presently is

    - Someone who is sick of some Conservatives telling them they are Marxist because they do not believe in a war that seems unjustiified

    - Someone who is sick of some Conservatives telling them they are weak and wimpy for trying to get along with all nations

    - Someone who is sick of some Conservatives screaming about government run healthcare, yet allowing a blundering President the ability to MAKE WAR and calling it okay for the government to send kids to die, yet moaning about the government doing something to keep people ALIVE like free health care

    - Someone who is sick of some Conservatives crying all the time about this “Christian persecution” by Liberals, yet telling Liberals they are going to Hell if they believe in Buddah - (hmmm, and that’s not judgment and persecution, right? - Give me a break)

    - Someone who lives actually more Christian than most Christians, even if they do not belive in the Christian God

    - Someone who wants to make this country and this world a better place

    - Someone who really wants to spread love around the world, but is called weak and pathetic by some Christians who just want to bomb people who do not agree with them

    A Liberal is:

    - Someone who DOES NOT believe that all Conservatives and Christians are evil

    - Someone who believes that Mark Noonan and others here are NOT good examples of Christianity and Conservatism because they are egomanical and spread hate about Liberals (like this post from Mark) while whining and crying that they are the ones being “persecuted.” WAAAAHHH!!!

    - Someone who believes that Sean Hannity, Jim Quinn, Mark Noonan, and other right wing mouthpieces hate Liberals and cannot ever see them in a good light because it makes them feel better about themselves if they hate Liberals

    - Someone who believes that Mark Noonan, Sean Hannity and people like them are not true Conservatives - they are neocons who only thinks that they are right because they are too egotistical to see that they might learn from other people, even if they do not agree with them

    AND Finally :

    A Liberal is:

    - Someone who can’t believe that Mark Noonan is so arrogant that he posted this topic at all.

Mark has no idea what he is talking about since he just wants to paint Liberals all with the same brush. He just needs a reason to hate them without realizing that there are good people who are Liberals. But he is too arrogant and self-righteous to see that

    - Someone who believes that many Liberals, just like many Conservatives are GOOD, HONEST, HARDWORKING PEOPLE!!!!

    - Someone who believes that neocon fanatics are the problem, not Conservatives

If America was only filled with Mark Noonan’s mentaliity about Liberals, our country is going to eventually collapse because all we will ever do is hate each other until we eventually kill each other with our arrogance!!!!

  • 23. Jeremiah  |  June 25th, 2008 at 12:33 am

Someone who lives actually more Christian than most Christians, even if they do not belive in the Christian God

No, friend, only Jesus Christ can heal. Only Jesus Christ can transform. Only Jesus Christ can give life.
John 3:16 ‘I am the way the truth and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father except through me.’
So, you see, living without Jesus Christ isn’t living according to God’s Word.

Someone who is sick of some Conservatives telling them they are wrong and going to Hell because they do not believe in the Christian God and all Conservative ideas

No, friend, you’re someone who hates the gospel because He convicts the heart of all that is bad in your life.

Someone who is sick of some Conservatives telling them they are Anti-American because they believe that American can do better than it presently is

Better? Sure thing, but not under a mindset that will weaken us and allow terrorism to overtake.

Someone who believes that Mark Noonan and others here are NOT good examples of Christianity and Conservatism because they are egomanical and spread hate about Liberals (like this post from Mark) while whining and crying that they are the ones being “persecuted.”

Hmmm, I wonder why I can’t share scripture and be a witness to others down the street? Didn’t Jesus teach, ‘Go unto all the world and spread the good news”? You reckon Liberals ever thought about that?
The Apostle Paul was hated in the same manner, they put him in prison for sharing the good news with them.

Someone who believes that many Liberals, just like many Conservatives are GOOD, HONEST, HARDWORKING PEOPLE!!!!

No doubt, many are…but does that make all of them right on everything? There are many good, honest, hardworking Conservatives too!
I just don’t understand why every corner we turn we can’t share a little hope through God’s Word with people. It saddens me. I don’t see anything wrong with talking with people who may be troubled, and share something with them that will give them peace, true peace and understanding.

Someone who really wants to spread love around the world, but is called weak and pathetic by some Christians who just want to bomb people who do not agree with them

I don’t understand what is wrong with some people, you can’t talk with them, they chant death and more death, and if I’m correct, I think they call themselves Muslims. Muslim, Islam, Kuran…it’s all the same…why did they kill so many beautiful mothers, fathers, and their little children? Why did they fly two planes into the Twin Towers? I don’t know. Just seems like hatred to me. A lot of people don’t care, they excuse their barbarism and say “who cares?”
Can I not protect my family from those kinds of people? Boy, I sure hope I can. I would really miss all my friends if they were taken by a terrorist attack. Even worse, I would really be saddened to see America enslaved by people who hate us. So many beautiful places, hundreds of generations of hard work to make a beautiful happy place. God has been so good to us. I hope our leaders won’t turn back from keeping us safe.

yet moaning about the government doing something to keep people ALIVE like free health care

If we work hard, and trust in God, we don’t have to ask anybody for “free” healthcare. It’s the American way! Ummmm, or at least it used to be, I think.

    God bless the USA!
    Wake Up, America!

  • 24. Mark Noonan  |  June 25th, 2008 at 1:20 am

    Tract,

I don’t recall ever calling for the prosecution of war protestors, so I did a bit of searching my own archives on the subject of treason - one of the first things I came up with had little to do with it, but as its from September of 2007, I think it worth quoting:

In 2008, I don’t think the Democrats will be able to square this circle - and this is why I still believe that Hillary won’t secure the nomination…or, if she does, it will be the nomination of a hopelessly divided Democratic party incapable of coming together for November. My view is that the nomination in 2008 will go to whichever candidate most emphatically proclaims the leftwing line and who is least tainted by any past cooperation with President Bush on the war. This puts Obama on the inside track - but if Gore were to jump in (even as late as December), I think he would secure the nomination in a political blow out. Clinton, Inc. will pull out all the stops to try and win - so we’ll see an exceptionally nasty primary fight (which will, in turn, depress Democratic prospects in November) - but I don’t think they’ll be able to stop the leftwing steamroller they called into existence.

Think I’m getting my mojo back on political predictions after my disasterous 2006 performance!

    Anyways…

After looking around a bit, I couldn’t find any plac where I had said anything like that - though I’ve literally written thousands of things over the years on the ‘net, so I can’t possibly remember everything I’ve said. Got a link?

  • 25. Robert  |  June 25th, 2008 at 3:02 am

“I just don’t understand why every corner we turn we can’t share a little hope through God’s Word with people. It saddens me. I don’t see anything wrong with talking with people who may be troubled, and share something with them that will give them peace, true peace and understanding.” - Jeremiah

The problem with this is that someone like me does not mind if you sit and talk with me about the good news. I will listen, even if I do not agree. I reach out to those who are troubled, too. I work with people with mental illness and disabilities and try to help them in any way I can. If you have something to offer someone, then by all means, talk to them about it and try to help them.

    HOWEVER:

My problem is that people like you, Jeremiah, do NOT let it rest with just talking to someone about your faith and what has helped you in your life. You must convert people to your religion or else you arrogantly make fun of them and tell them they are wrong. If they do not agree with you after you talk to them about your faith, then you claim they are wrong and their way of life will damn them to Hell. If they listen to you and do not conform to your way of thinking, then they are “lost” and “not Saved” and will go to Hell if they do not accept Christ. It is not good enough for people like you to share your ideas with them, if they listen to you. If they do not agree after politely listening to you, then you JUDGE them and say their view of life is wrong.

    Cases in point:

“No, friend, only Jesus Christ can heal. Only Jesus Christ can transform. Only Jesus Christ can give life.
John 3:16 ‘I am the way the truth and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father except through me.’
So, you see, living without Jesus Christ isn’t living according to God’s Word.” - Jeremiah

    AND:

“No, friend, you’re someone who hates the gospel because He convicts the heart of all that is bad in your life.” - Jeremiah

You, Jeremiah, refuse to entertain the notion that I may have a point and am entitled to a view of life that differs from yours. Because you did not convert me, you scorn me. That is ARROGANCE. Isn’t PRIDE one of the seven deadly sins?

That is my point precisely, that many Christians do not just reach out to help those in need - they preach to them and try to convert them. If said troubled person does then not turn to Jesus Christ, these supposed compassionate Christians turn on them and damn them to Hell, and act self-righteous and know-it-all about the matter. It is just not conceivable that after they have heard the “Good News” that they still might not want to “accept Christ as their personal Savior.” So, if they say, “No, I think there may be other possibilities to our existence that feel more right to me,” these Christians then condemn them and judge them and treat them as less of a person. This is NOT what a true Christian is supposed to act like.

So, Jeremiah, noone is stopping you from talking to and trying to help others with your faith. But you need to try to help others and not judge them if they do not agree with you. That is what turns people AWAY from Christianity.

And when that happens, you need to stop blaming Liberals for “Christian persecution” and look in the mirror.

    JS, you are another one.

    Please see my comments above.

You try to paint all Liberals with the same brush, but it is simply NOT true.

There are many Liberals who are wonderful, loving, giving people. They would stop at nothing just to give of themself to others.

I know - I’m going to marry one. I also hope that I could live up to that grace that many Liberals show.

Not all Liberals are rich elitists. Many of us are struggling. Many may have a college education, but are forced to work at Burger King or McDonald’s because the “corporate” world has no use for creativity - like writers or artists.

Some Liberals are the most caring people I know, but they are called weak-minded and “tree-huggers” because they CARE enough to try to get along with other peoples around the world and to try to give back to Mother Nature.

Another group in the country - the ORIGINAL Americans, tried to stand up and fight to help Mother Nature and live in, as Mark says (blindly) in balance with nature. We see what happened to them, don’t we. They were forced from their homes and treated like dirt because white settlers wanted their land in the name of “progress.”

You, JS, and neocons like you are the ones with HATRED. You are the ones who ridicule good people because you need to feed your egos. You do not know what you are talking about. Have you ever lived poor, huh? Have you ever needed the help of a fellow human being, no matter what their political views?

No, you would rather hate Liberals and try to blame them for “hating” you.

    GROW UP!!!!!!!!

  • 29. Tractatus  |  June 25th, 2008 at 1:19 pm

    Noonan:

This will have to be in two parts because too many links means the comment “awaits moderation.”

Anyway, your argument for arresting war protesters starts here, where you say:

I believe that these people should be rounded up, put on trial, and sent to jail for their treason.

    It continues here:

jail is the least we should do to them.

These are aimed at Fred Phelps, though you also throw MoveOn and ANSWER into the mix…just because. (I’m sure some wingnut–maybe you, maybe somebody else–will now say that I’m a huge loyalist to one or all of these groups. I’d hope you guys wouldn’t revel in your foolishness like that, but…well, I think the odds are pretty high that you will.)

The first commenter in the second link points out that not only are you conflating left-wing groups with a far-right notjub like Phelps, you are advocating for jail time for people’s free expression. Your escape mechanism is to water down the terms “treason” and “aid and comfort” so much as to make them meaningless.

    (Continued in the next comment)

  • 30. Tractatus  |  June 25th, 2008 at 1:22 pm

Your escape mechanism got tested (Hell’s Handmaiden pretty much shut it down, so you pushed it even further, demanding that people define “treason” (most people stuck with the definition in the Constitution, but that wasn’t good enough for you), continuously insisting that protesting the war provides some ethereal “aid and comfort” to the enemy and is therefore treason and therefore, to your mind, necessitates imprisonment at the very least.

Note how you kept widening the net. It started off with the despicable Fred Phelps. You almost immediately added some big left-wing groups to the pot, and by the third installment, you had widened it to include anybody who “[referred] to the enemy as other than terrorists” and anybody who “call[s]” into question the motives of the war.” Note also that your entire premise rests on the at best utterly misguided notion that all protesters want America to “lose.”

Basically, you cooked up an amorphous-at-best definition of treason to justify your desire to have protesters jailed. You started from a flawed premise and piled on even more flaws as you went, continually defining down the necessary terms until you got to the point where merely questioning the ever-shifting rationale for invading Iraq in the first place was, to you, enough to call for imprisonment.

phnx: Gonna retract your statements now? Of course you won’t. You’re too cowardly to have even that modicum of honor.

Really? Then why do they want to take me to jail? Is it “Seperation of Church and State”?
Why do you want to take our freedom away?

People truly are lost Robert, and it will be a sad day when they find themselves living eternally seperated from Jesus Christ because someone said we weren’t allowed to witness to them.
So, if they are lost, then it’s not the Christians fault, and whose then would it be?

You may continue to take my freedoms away, friend, but as it was little David that said, ‘The battle’s not mine’.

So, friend, it is only the Christians who will be victorious…because we give the battle to God, and then He gives us the strength to overcome and be victorious.

I’m afraid not, Fredrick. In Hell you are all alone in total darkness in unfathomable torment along with millions of others totally alienated from each other, even Satan will be alienated from those he sought to destroy, but he won’t be able to take the heat in the place prepared for him and his angels. The mind just cannot describe such a place. How dreadful.

So it is said, ‘Fear not what can kill the body, but what can kill both soul and body in Hell.’

And that’s the way I see it. God holds the keys, but it is our choice as to whether we go there or not.

God loves you, and wants you to come to him and be made whole. I wish I could explain it better if I knew you would listen, because I’m not trying to preach hate or be overbearing, I’m not trying to force anyone to accept God’s plan for their lives. I just want to stress the importance of how much God loves you.

    Thank you.

    Tractatus,
You should have kept reading, Noonan and I argued that speech in and of itself could be treasonous. William O. Douglas agreed and I made, I must say, the definitive argument that he, and by extension Noonan was correct. Noonan’s position is and always has been that dissent can and does descend to treason.

Btw, “handmaiden” was flatly wrong in his assessment of an overt act, by Constitutional standard as well as practical application.

So you are volunteering to be example #2 of conservatives who want war protesters jailed, then, DL? phnx is gonna be mad at you for that, but thanks for further proving my point.

If your point is that you cannot read nor reason, then I’m glad I could help.

    A liberal is……

“n hell my friend I’ll be there beating your ass with brass knuckles bashing your teeth down your throat and bloddying your face in four hour shifts with one hour breaks for a full fortnight. You will beg and plead and I will just laugh. Through broken jaw and cracked eye sockets you will ask “why?!” as blood and snot stream down your chest.
And I as you executioner’s aide before your actual penance is paid for eternity will say, “Because you placed your arrogance above the Almighty!” And then I will bash you skull to pulp.
I hope you live a good long life jeremiah so I can pump iron and get ready to make you suffer you pious prick. I wish you wealth, the comfort of a good Chrsitian wife who bears you many fine sons and a bounty of blessings of good food and economic prosperity. And then when as an old man you fall to hell I’ll be there on the boat that ferries you to where judgment is meted out a place we here in Hell call the Serratoth Custom House.”

Freddie you won’t have time you’ll be too busy being Hitler’s Boy Toy, cleaning leviathan crap and Stalin’s Cabin slave.

    A liberal is……delusional.
