Wow – and she’s also written for Edwards and Hillary:
This drift started on a personal level with the fall of former Senator John Edwards. It got stronger during the Democratic National Convention when I counted the substantive mentions of poverty on one hand and a whole bunch of bad canned partisan lines against Senator John McCain. Some faith was lifted after Senator Hillary Clinton’s grace during a difficult hour. But that faith was dashed when I saw that someone had raided the Caligula set and planted the old columns at Invesco Field.
The final straw came the other week when Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (a.k.a Joe the Plumber) asked a question about higher taxes for small businesses. Instead of celebrating his aspirations, they were mocked. He wasn’t “a real plumber,” and “They’re fighting for Joe the Hedge-Fund manager,” and the patronizing, “I’ve got nothing but love for Joe the Plumber.”
Having worked in politics, I know that absolutely none of this is on the level. This back and forth is posturing, a charade, and a political game. These lines are what I refer to as “hooker lines”—a sure thing to get applause and the press to scribble as if they’re reporting meaningful news.
As the nation slouches toward disaster, the level of political discourse is unworthy of this moment in history. We have Republicans raising Ayers and Democrats fostering ageism with “erratic” and jokes about Depends. Sexism. Racism. Ageism and maybe some Socialism have all made their ugly cameos in election 2008. It’s not inspiring. Perhaps this is why I found the initial mocking of Joe so offensive and I realized an old line applied: “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party left me.”
The party I believed in wouldn’t look down on working people under any circumstance. And Joe the Plumber is right. This is the absolutely worst time to raise taxes on anyone: the rich, the middle class, the poor, small businesses and corporations…
…I was dead wrong about the surge and thought it would be a disaster. Senator John McCain led when many of us were ready to quit. Yet we march on as if nothing has changed, wedded to an old plan, and that too is a long way from the Democratic Party.
I can no longer justify what this party has done and can’t dismiss the treatment of women and working people as just part of the new kind of politics. It’s wrong and someone has to say that. And also say that the Democratic Party’s talking points—that Senator John McCain is just four more years of the same and that he’s President Bush—are now just hooker lines that fit a very effective and perhaps wave-winning political argument…doesn’t mean they’re true. After all, he is the only one who’s worked in a bipartisan way on big challenges.
I know that none of you Democrats will believe me on this, but your man Obama is a disaster-in-waiting. He’s a product of the hopelessly corrupt Chicago Democratic machine and he lacks the knowledge, judgment and courage to be President. He won’t heal anything and won’t change anything – he can’t; he won’t be allowed to by the Powers That Be in the Democratic party and he lacks the ability to face them down and do the right thing in spite of them.
If you want change, then McCain is your man – he’ll get right to work actually changing the way DC does business.

Deleted – off topic slanders.
zohan,
Joe Plumber is a tax deadbeat? How did that information be released? Using gov’t computers to dig up dirt, by the opposition? But , of course, you libs do not see that as a privacy violation that you are always bitching about with the Patriot Act.
FYI, ACORN is also a tax deadbeat – a multi-million dollar organization!!!
So who is the deadbeat – the average Joe who is having trouble with confiscatory taxes on private citizens or multi-million $ organizations who claim to be community organizers??
But of course, you liberals believe that all money belongs to the government and its the politician’s place to determine who much we are allowed to keep of our hard earned money.
Oh yeah, it is more patriotic to pay higher taxes. Funny how the rich liberals shelter their money while non-liberal types are called unpatriotic. But then again, libs believe that dissent is the highest form of patriotism!!
Can we dissent from paying taxes?
If stupidity were a crime, you’d be on death row.
Zohan:
Joe the plumber is a tax deadbeat
No, he put a legitimate question to your master Obama, and Obama was flushed out like the closet socialist he truly is.
And on to your denigration of Joe as a tax deadbeat.
I guess you being a typical unemployed ( or unemployable ) Democrat voter can sit back and criticize the likes of Joe the plumber because it just makes you more determined not to do anything worthwhile with your life.
Yep, go and vote for Obama on Tuesday and do it twice because he still wont win.

Obama is a disaster-in-waiting
Mark – You may be right, but I pray that you’re not because like it or not Obama is probably going to be our next president, and this country certainly can’t afford another 8 years of disasters.
this country certainly can’t afford another 8 years of disasters.
Parker, I’m gonna stick my neck out here and predict that what you call the “disasters” of the last 8 years are going to look like a Sunday picnic compared to what Obama has in store for us. The only redeeming factor, if he’s elected, is that he won’t serve 8 years. BTW, if I’m wrong, and he turns out to be a great President, I’m man enough to come back here and admit it. My guess is that there aren’t too many of our resident Libs who will bother to come back here and admit their error if Obama turns out to be the unmitigated disaster that we Conservatives think he will be.
not that i wish any harm to anyone…but i really dont think the big O will survive long if he is elected…there are too many radical kkk/supremacist/nazi types one top of jihadists that are potentially a deadly threat to obamacide…ecspecially when he promotes abortion and homosexual behavior…the odds of obamacide surviving will be incredible…even with the FBI/CIA/SS/and HLS out there…
Put your anxieties aside. McCain will win. Period.
It is hard to believe that Joe the Plumber was scrutinized more than William Ayers. If it weren’t for the MSM, McCain would have a 6 point lead.
Many don’t remember the unmitigated disaster that Carter was. By the time he left office there was double digit inflation, double digit unemployment, interest rates were 21% and misery indices were part of societal lexicon. Obama espouses the same governmental policies and there is not a shred of difference between Carter and Obama.
We simply can not afford such incompetence to govern this land again. And those that love to chide Bush, keep in mind, there were 52 consecutive quarters of GDP growth, historically low unempl0yment, and inflation and low interest rates until Pelosi took control of the house in 2007. That’s a fact.
“O God, humiliate Bush and his party, O Lord of the Worlds, degrade and defy him,” Abu Yahya al-Libi said at the end of sermon marking the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr, in a video posted on the Internet. – Osama Bin Laden
Interesting how in common Osama Bin Laden has with our liberals.
zohan: “ouch”
What’s the matter? Hurt yourself typing or were you trying to think or do both at the same time?
So, Joe owes taxes. So WHAT!
Didn’t Rangel just get busted for the same thing?
Noticed you did not respond to the unfair tax burden put on the productive while the non-productive get a free ride. When the productive can’t pay their taxes – they are called deadbeats. But the non-productive are “Americans who deserve dignity” by the left. And to give them dignity, wealth has to be funnelled their way through confiscatory taxes.
Again, if stupidity were a crime, you’d be on death row.
Uh, zohan, when I click on the link I get “404 – PAGE NOT FOUND.”
Regardless of your source, the information was provided through use of government computers, which is a violation of his rights. People have lost their jobs through that practice.
I thought libs championed privacy rights, but then again if you are a non-liberal type questioning the chosen one, all bets are off.
Again, your stupidity knows no bounds.
the “disasters” of the last 8 years are going to look like a Sunday picnic compared to what Obama has in store for us.
Spook – Again, You may be right, but again I pray that you’re not because if you are we are all in deep doo-doo.
I just don’t think the American people are ready to reward the Republican party for results of the past 8 years. Sadly for McCain, Bush & Co. made the bed and McCain has to sleep in it (the Palin stunt didn’t help either). I think the people are looking for change in direction and that’s what Obama represents to them and they’re willing to take the gamble. Change for the better? That remains to be seen. It sure looks as if we are going to find out.
Vote For Veto Power
If you are still not sure who to vote for, then consider the power of The Veto when you choose your next President. If the Democrats end up controlling the House as well as the Senate, then only The President can serve as a check or balance to their power. If all of the power is in the hands of the same party then there would be no check & balance as the founding fathers envisioned.
Voting for McCain,to maintain the balance of power, would be a safe bet to ensure someone is in power who can check the Congressional excesses but who also has a proven bipartisan track record of working with others to get things done.
Just for the record, a few seconds of Googling reveals that the unnamed “Obama speechwriter” was someone named Wendy Button. She is entitled to her opinion, but she is not a major player. Joe Lieberman she ain’t.
The fact that she is upset about Edwards being mistreated proves she is a bit off the wall… because Edwards actually did something wrong. Very wrong! (And I speak as a former supporter of his.) And her defense of Joe the Plumber is pretty silly.
Her defection doesn’t prove much: McCain has had some much bigger defections from HIS side, including Sec. of State Colin Powell and at least two Senators.
Who is this speechwriter?
Deleted – off topic.
also noonan, how come no link or name for this supposed turncoat speechwriter? Looking forward to seeing the blather you post on here next week when McCain loses by 200+ EVs. The country is about to let you guys know EXACTLY what it thinks of the moder Christian Fundamentalist, corporate-welfare, spend and spend republican party.
Deleted – mindless insults.
(Ed. Note: If you hate us this much, we pray you will withdraw from the blog until such time as you can act decently.)
going down…
your candidate is different how?
Proposed 1 TRILLION in new spending.
Welfare for over 50% of the country.
Weak American foreign policy.
Guarded past.
Radical past.
Requested BILLION in earmarks at the beginning of his first term as senator.
The list goes on and on.
Your candidate is politics and policies as usual nothing new, no real change. TAX and SPEND.
oh, you will be a banned fool if you keep up your pitiful attacks, insults and invective.
St. Ronald’s Chief of Staff endorses Obama. You really don’t want to go tit-for-tat on this endorsement thing. Really.
Talking Point,
Had to look the name up – what was he, CoS for about the last 6 months or so of the Reagan term? Hardly a Reaganite – and as he’s been connected with Armitage and Corn in the Plame Kerfuffle, I’d say that his GOP registration has been nominal, at best, for some time now. I guess he wanted 15 seconds of fame – and he got it; now you and the rest of the left will always say that Reagan’s CoS endorsed Obama, and never let on that the guy was a nobody who took over during the waning days of the Reagan Administration.
now you and the rest of the left will always say that Reagan’s CoS endorsed Obama, and never let on that the guy was a nobody who took over during the waning days of the Reagan Administration.
You mean like how you wingnuts are trying to pretend that this “speachwriter” is a super-important person? Gotcha.
Try again, Mark. And try harder next time, please.
When you delete my idiotic posts, responders to my now-non-existent posts look idiotic.
All the responders tell the tale of Joe’s tax troubles anyway.
Y U do that?
