    I am always intrigued by the anti-religion fanatics who fret about the threat of a “theocracy” in the United States if religion is a part, any part, of government or even public life. There are more than 1600 Protestant religions (not to mention the “religion” that ignores the concept of Christ dying to redeem us for our sins and distorts it into Christ being a black man murdered by white Europeans, making it an excuse for racial hatred) and as none of them can agree on many details, the very idea that CHRISTIANITY could somehow unite to rule the nation is utter nonsense.

    But the need for religion in general, the understanding of the role of religion in our lives, and the need for government to work closely with religion has always been a basic tenet of the writings of the Founding Fathers and our first President.

    Something we also need to keep in mind is that their intent was that there never be a religious test for public office. We have seen this violated over and over again as the personal religious beliefs of conservatives have been used to try to disqualify them from office.

    The old guys were way ahead of us on this one………………
