Romney, Palin, Huckabee

Top the GOP list for 2012:

When it comes to which Republican candidate should take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama in 2012, GOP voters are essentially evenly split between three former candidates. Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, and Mike Huckabee are within just a few percentage points of one another.

In a new Rasmussen poll released today, the former Massachusetts governor tops all Republican candidates with the backing of 25 percent of GOP voters.

Palin, who recently announced she would resign her position as Alaska’s governor, follows Romney in second place with the backing of 24 percent. Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, received the support of 22 percent of Republicans.

We seem to be turning from the “party which can’t shoot straight” to “the party which can’t miss”. This is an immense pool of talent to draw on, and the secondary players (ie, Pawlenty, etc) are also a good crop. All the Donks will have in 2012 is what they’ve got now…a President who is failing miserably, and a VP who is a national embarrassment.

Wait… you’re a party that “can’t miss” because those affiliated with your party like the candidates from your party better than the guy from the other side of the aisle?

    Damn. Who’d've known?

Really? These clowns? (and I know clowns…)

Prediction alert: Republican nominee Darrell Issa in 2012.

America won’t elect a talk show host to the presidency, and the RNC knows it. Romney is creepy-slick and already lost one, Jindal is forever “Mr. Rogers” and Palin’s gone fishing.

Ron Paul will again be a spoiler, but Issa is an Arab-American who grew up in a Jewish neighborhood in Ohio and won big in liberal California when Republicans couldn’t win squat. He’s got a respectable ten year military record. He’s rich off his own invention, and his flagship product, the “Viper” car alarm still has his recorded voice barking out “please step away from the car.”

Hollywood loves him ’cause he’s pushing intellectual property legislation.

Don’t think anyone can win now that Obama controls the vote COUNT, but you watch…

    You’re welcome.

  3. rasmus says:

Obama is taking a totally new approach to many of the problems you/we are facing. The most important thing for most people is obviously the economy and more time is needed to determine if the administration’s plan will work satisfactory or not. If it works (and many leading economists think it will) then the GOP will have a very tough time in 2012 no matter who they run with. If it doesn’t work (which is what some republicans are praying for every night) then the GOP will have a good chance of winning provided they run with the right person. Out of the 3 potential candidates you mention I think Romney would be the hardest one to beat. The easiest one would be Palin.

While linking to the post from LifeSiteNews [sigh] was meant to give readers a chance to get the full gist I doubt if many would care to do so. I did and what is left out is something that should make many of the Worshippers of the Church of God in Palin [COGIP] either blanche or declare LifeSite a “Liberal rag.”

The new survey is a case of good news and bad news for Palin.

While she received the second-most level of support for a potential presidential campaign, Republican voters also named her as tied with Barbour for the candidate they would least like to see earn the GOP nomination.

They both received 21 percent for the least-wanted candidate to take on Obama, Gingrich and Pawlenty tie for next on the list, with 15% each, 10 percent don’t want Huckabee, and nine percent don’t want Romney as the nominee.

The survey also found 40 percent of Republican voters believe Palin has hurt her chances of winning the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 by stepping down as the Alaska governor. Twenty-four percent say the resignation helps her chances, and 28% say it will have no impact on the race.

You seem to be the party of pundits that can’t handle the truth even when it comes from your own sources.

dont count your chickens before the eggs have hatched…politics are a dirty business…and the socialist donkeyrats party is digging deep for skelletons…ya gotta know…i doubt that this is the last word on this…given that opinions sway so dramatically based on the question and where they were asked…..

  6. js02 says:

reality is this…when palin address people they really listen…the results of negative MSM coverage is directly reflected in this servey because the terms they use describe the situation is a mirror image of the quotes from the negative MSM…

bottom like is this…palins got to tell folks why she does what she does…and when the stupidity of the MSM is relied on…and folks dont stand patiently until they actually have enough information to make a viable conclusion…then you get half baked surveys with crackerjack statistics…

You offer nothing to the topic.

Do you have a better candidate for the GOP other than Palin?

And what would your reasons be for supporting her if you don’t?

I think Romney would be best because he has succeeded at business would be a better fix in turbulent economic times if Mr Obama has to be voted out he may be the best person [ I would say man but I can feel amazona's hot breath lurking in the distance] for the job.

  14. js02 says:

The Northeast Republican ‘Club’ ,has led the charge against Palin, not the left or the mass media on the basis that they consider themselves to be the core of the party. It is they who have leaked info to rag sheets like Vanity Fair because they consider her classless because she likes ‘Moose stew ’ They heaped an unbelievable amount of contempt on her for the unpardonable sin of being just an ordinary American.

They consider anyone who lives in fly over America to be country bumpkins, so what chance does a woman from Wasilla, Alaska have?

Already we have seen Michael Steele, the head of the RNC say, “She can not be the candidate for 2012.” Why not Mr. Steele, have you been given your marching orders? What new RINO do you have in mind to carry your banner to another defeat?

Far be it for me to suggest Sarah Palin should be our next candidate or President, let’s just see who rises above the pack and I say it is too early to discount anyone at this point. But they are missing one big point.

Sarah Palin is an electrifying personality who draws bigger crowds than anyone else in the GOP. By touring the country from one end to another in support of GOP candidates in 2010 for the Senate and the House she would be a major factor in cutting into the Democratic majority and bringing some sanity back to Washington.

you might have fooled a few of us…that was a temporary win if you can call it that…but when it comes down to living life the american way…and that means that reasserting to americans that they can succeed where the donkeys have told them they already failed…the GOP will come singing back to power because our eyes have seen the glory, and its not from liars and cheat and thieves that push legislation like the socialist democrats are doing today…

  28. Mark Noonan says:

    Rasmus,

Where is Obama trying even a single, new thing? He’s nothing but warmed-over Carterism. Spending more? Soft foreign policy? Cuts to vital defense programs? We’ve done this before, and we know where it winds up…which is why we on the GOP side aren’t praying for Obama’s failure, we know it will fail and are just waiting for the complete crash.

  29. Mark Noonan says:

    Js,

There is a lot a lot of the elitist, RINO problem for the GOP, but I’m going to give Steele a pass – it seems to me, on reading what he said, that he was more offering up the opinion that Palin might not be able to clear her problems – financial and otherwise – in time to build up a 2012 campaign; he wasn’t, in my opinion, saying she can’t run…meanwhile, he’s enthused about her helping out in 2009 and 2010.

To be sure, though, all of the elite power structure fears her and hates her – just as, at bottom, they hate and fear all of us in the rank-and-file of the GOP/conservative movement. We’re supposed to be good, little proles who work to build America’s wealth, and then allow the elites to run things with no input from us at all.

    That is going to change.

  30. rasmus says:

    Mark,

I know you don’t understand it and that’s ok – You’ve already made up your mind and nothing will ever change that. I don’t have time to list all the good things Obama has done so far and how much your reputation in the world has changed for the better.

To the vast majority of people in the world Obama is an incredible inspiration and but for you he’s just weak – how sad is that Mark. You’ve heard it all before, you despise it and nothing I can ever say to you will convince you to at least be open minded. Never mind all the very clever people including more Nobel prize winners, economists, billionaires etc. than you can throw a stick at who believe Obama is doing the right thing – You and Hannity know the absolute truth and there is no room for doubts. Hallelujah.

“I don’t have time to list all the good things Obama has done so far and how much your reputation in the world has changed for the better.”

Our reputation in the world has changed for the better? Only when Obama does what they want-apologizes for things that are not our fault and then ignores what that country has done and is doing.
Our reputation improves when Obama gets down on his knees and ignores what is in the US’s best interest.

The only reason our “reputation” is better is because other countries and rulers know that Obama is a puppet that they can manipulated and that he will turn a blind eye to their human rights violations and illegal weapons proliferation.

The reason your reputation is better now, carol, is that the world finally saw the majority of Americans come to their senses and realize the terrible mistake they made in 2000 and 2004. If the American voter had elected the McCain/Palin ticket you can be assured that your reputation would be mud.

  35. orlando says:

Speaking of Palin, you better start savaging Peggy Noonan for pointing out the obvious:

In television interviews she was out of her depth in a shallow pool. She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them. She couldn’t say what she read because she didn’t read anything. She was utterly unconcerned by all this and seemed in fact rather proud of it: It was evidence of her authenticity. She experienced criticism as both partisan and cruel because she could see no truth in any of it. She wasn’t thoughtful enough to know she wasn’t thoughtful enough. Her presentation up to the end has been scattered, illogical, manipulative and self-referential to the point of self-reverence.

She then handily dispenses with the Palin myths that are all too common from Palin worshipers on this site and elsewhere. For that sin, she’s gonna get an earful from the wingnuts.

  36. Silent Cal says:

Must be time to trash the Progressives, too.

Unfortunately, it’s pretty obvious that Palin still lacks that cadre of trusted pros who are the invisible elves behind every successful national politician — the assistants who gather and vet material and who filter proposals and plan logistics. In a way, this is part of her virtues — her complete freedom from routine micromanagement and business as usual. She does her own thing with seat-of-the-pants gusto. It’s why she remains hugely popular with the Republican grass-roots base — as I know from listening to talk radio. Callers coming fresh from her rallies are always heady with infectious enthusiasm.

Of course you’d never know that from reading hit jobs like Todd Purdum’s sepulchral piece on Palin in the current Vanity Fair. Scurrying around Alaska with his notepad, Purdum still managed to find comically little to indict her with. Anyone with a gripe is given the floor; fans are shut out. This exercise in faux objectivity is exposed at key points such as Purdum’s failure to identify the actual instigator of Palin’s extravagant clothing bills (a crazed, credit-card-abusing stylist appointed by the McCain campaign) and his prissy characterization of Palin’s performance at the vice-presidential debate as merely “adequate.” Hey, wake up — Palin cleaned Biden’s clock! By the end, Biden was sighing and itching to split.

Whether Palin has a national future or not will depend on her willingness to hit the books at some point and absorb more information about international history and politics than she has needed to know in her role as governor. She also needs a shrewder, cooler take on the mainstream media, with its preening bullies, cackling witches, twisted cynics and pompous windbags. The Northeastern media establishment is in decline, and everyone knows it. Palin should not have gotten into a slanging match with David Letterman or anyone else who has been obsessively defaming her or her family. Let surrogates do that stuff.

The vicious double standard is pretty obvious. Only the tabloids, for example, ran the photos of a piss-drunk Chelsea Clinton, panties exposed, falling into her car outside London clubs a few years ago. If Chelsea had been the scion of Republican bigwigs, those tacky scenes would have been trumpeted from pillar to post in the U.S. as signals of parental failures or turmoil in clan Clinton. As a Democrat, I detest the partisan machinations that have become standard in Northeastern news management and that are detectable in editorial decisions at major metropolitan newspapers nationwide. It’s why I, like a host of others, have shifted my news gathering to the Web.

If you think you can win in the marketplace of ideas using Peggy Noonan, good luck with that.

  37. Silent Cal says:

I should mention that was Camille Paglia true assesment of Pali’s appeal. http://dir.salon.com/topics/camille_paglia/index.html

  38. Silent Cal says:

    And are precise assesment of the old guard (like Noonan) and why they keep getting it wrong on Palin;

The pundit class is basing their analysis on calculations of the past (i.e., people who got elected president didn’t quit as governor) and on the assumption that Sarah Palin made a political calculation in resigning.

They are simply not seeing either Sarah Palin for who she is, or what truly matters to the millions who support her, and they can’t compute that there were no political calculations involved.

Her decision was one with her brand for two main reasons:

    1) She’s practical and holds government to the same standard. This means that when she was watching millions being spent on what seems to amount to frivolous investigations against her, she couldn’t stand by and watch the money be wasted. Not only was she being hamstrung in her job, but dollars were being thrown out the window. Her frustration over this waste showed at her press conference. Not only does this point back to the sincerity of her brand and reinforce that she actually cares about every taxpayer dollar, but it puts her “quitting” in a different light — by stepping aside and risking hurting her political career, she is actually saving Alaska money (one of her core promises she made to the people of that state).

    2) She embodies family values and put them first. For the political class, a family is often an accessory, but even so, families are semi-sacred ground for the media, that is except for Sarah Palin’s. By any reasonable standard, her family was dragged through the mud. The wife and mother making the announcement on July 3 was someone who could not and would not bear any more. She made a choice that came out of the deepest part of herself (her core brand) — no wonder the political class was left scratching its collective head. They hadn’t taken her claims of loving her family seriously. But the wives and mothers who make up Palin’s supporters got it.

Fact is, as Stanley Fish over at The New York Times pointed out: if you just listened to what Palin said at her press conference, you’d understand that this was not someone making a traditional political calculation. This was someone being real about her choices and her pain.

And that’s why Sarah Palin has just strengthened herself for the long run (if she ever chooses a political future). She wasn’t erratic at all; she was true to the things she believes in.

Just look at her latest interview with the Associated Press:

You would be amazed at how much time and resource my staff and I, the Department of Law especially, spend on this every day. It is a waste. We are spending these millions of dollars not on teachers and troopers and roads or fish research and other things that are needed in Alaska.”

She’s a woman who means what she says and does what she believes. But the pundits simply aren’t listening.

So let the pundits piece this out over the months and years ahead, but one thing is already clear: her base is still with her, and Sarah Palin is poised to grow.

And remember, things are always easier to understand when you keep marketing and branding in mind.

John Tantillo is a marketing and branding expert and the founder and president of Marketing Department of America

Treat her with respect, Progressives, you might have to get used to Madam President Palin if you stay on this course.

  39. orlando says:

If you think you can win in the marketplace of ideas using Peggy Noonan, good luck with that.

Uhhh…what? First of all, I’m just showing how even staunch Republican Peggy Noonan is pointing out the blatantly obvious truth that so many Palin worshipers are doing everything in their power to ignore. Second of all, you’re going to talk about “winning in the marketplace of ideas” by leveraging Camille Paglia? Really?

  40. Silent Cal says:

I think I would prefer Huckabee, because Romney believes in the old style unregulated capitalism with no plan to close the income gap.

Huckabee can be beat because he represents a conservative populism that can’t stand up to critical debate. And Palin? Ignore her and she goes away.

  41. Silent Cal says:

Peggy Noonan is not trusted by the conservatives, she represents the right side of elite media. Paglia and Salon is read by Progressives, she makes sound arguments and appeals to readers who don’t like to lead around by idology.

  42. cam1 says:

Of all the paste eaters the vast majority (25%) have picked Romney brand paste. Hard to imagine that. So what is the relevance?

  43. frenchstudent says:

Naaah. It’s no spin. Not like “republicans are so leaderless right now that have three people that have 25% of the republican electorate each.”

Our left wing is like that right now. Leaderless, with every socialist political figure trying to paint itself as the leader of the left. They had a tight… primary, I guess, to elect the leader of the party. So little was the vote difference, and so visible the loser was in the media, that the elected leader of the party and the runner-up have about as much legitimacy. Add the leader of the new anticapitalist party on their left, and you have a whole wing of our political spectrum running like headless chickens.
