Scott Ott lays it out:
…Palin does not allege that the health care reform bill contains the phrase “death panel” or that it openly advocates euthanasia. Sarah Palin’s charge has legs because:
1.) The only way to save money in a government-run health system is to ration care.
2.) The majority of health care expenditures for most people come near the end of life, and thus the elderly present the greatest opportunity for cost savings.
3.) Special-needs people, like Palin’s son Trig, who has Down’s Syndrome, also require spending — another opportunity for economizing.
4.) The government, and too many in our society, believe …
a) infants in the womb to be less worthy of protection than Michael Vick’s dogs,
b) Trig Palin’s life to be Sarah’s foolish choice, and
c) the elderly to be a burden on society.
5.) Other governments which run health care operations have a track record of delaying and denying coverage based on the limited supply of medical professionals and equipment, as well as cost-containment considerations.
6.) The end-of-life counseling language appeared in a section of a bill on cost-containment.
7.) The American people don’t trust politicians, and would rise up in unified opposition if the federal government had a plan to take over and run little league athletics, let alone health care, which does involve life and death decisions.
8.) Americans love freedom.
The reason why the “traditional” media has failed to knock down what Kurtz, et al, see as spurious “death panel” allegations is because journalists and politicians ignore the real facts and the legitimate concerns of the American people…
The left and the MSM (I know, same/same, these days) took note of the fact that the various health care proposals all lacked the phrase “death panel” and figured that this destroyed Palin’s assertion. What the left/MSM failed to note is that we’re a bit wiser than they give us credit for – and Sarah Palin just leaves them in the dust. This is because the MSM/left rates intellect by college degrees and where they are obtained – we rate intellect by what someone uses their brains for. The very well educated Obama uses his to advocate a 1,000+ page health care plan he’s never read – Palin used hers to note that some of the provisions in the unread-by-Obama bill would turn the screws towards euthanasia as a means of controlling health care costs under a “public option”. Obama applied mindless repetition of leftist talking points – Palin applied common sense.
In addition to Palin’s superior application of mental aptitude, there is also Palin’s superior political grasp – while Obama and his Democrats convinced themselves in spite of their own campaign rhetoric to the contrary that America had turned left in November of 2008, Palin realized that the government-created financial meltdown was the very last straw in the public’s willingness to trust the government. A government which causes people’s houses to go down in value by 20-50% is not a government which should run something as vital as health care. Obama and his Democrats didn’t even notice that they first had to restore trust in government before advocating such a major overhaul. Palin realized that with government this mistrusted, it would be easy to hammer Obama’s plans with a public already doubtful about Obama’s grand plans.
As we head towards the 2010 and 2012 political seasons, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out – the MSM is still fighting hard for Obama, but all this may end up doing is destroying the MSM and Obama at the same time. Meanwhile, in Palin, Cantor, Giuliani, Romney, Gingrich, Jindal and many others, the GOP is showing that it clearly has the intellectual and political tools necessary to win – all that is lacking, for the moment, is a clear plan of action.

Why would you hold Palin, who is now a private citizen, to a higher standard than our elected congress critters? You seemingly have no concern whther or not they read the bill, so why do you care if Palin did?
Fact is, Palin changed the direction of the debate and got more traction from her comments than any Democrat has, including Obama
Does heyhey think that Obama wrote the health care bill?
do they really think that thier bill will solve america’s health care troubles….do they think that calling it “reform” is going to change the blarring fact that its not reform, but a complete takeover by an entity (government) that cant balance its own check book?
when they piss in the wind by exagerating statements palin made so they could ignore what the lady really said, assuming that americans are as stupid as they want us to be…do they walk smelling like roses?
wow, you got a clue yet?
trolls repeating lies really dont make ya looks smart hey hey…really…
So, heyhey, exactly what will ObamaCare accomplish? How will it reduce costs?
But, hey, nice ad hominum attack on Palin. 4 stars for unresponsiveness.
William, these troll pukes hate Palin and everything GOP.
Don’t feed the brain-dead trolls…
Speaking to reduced cost, how many Baby Boomers are getting up in age? How will government control the rising cost of caring for the Baby Boomers? The simple fact is there are a lot of Baby Boomers getting up in age and with Obamacare there will be cost cutting and how will that be done, rationing. Only other way to pay for the rise in care is a rise in taxes, and how are you going to do that raise taxes on Generation Y? I am just saying that there are big problems in the cost area that are already looming. It’s a problem one way or another but Obamacare is NOT the solution!
Fact is, Republicans have offered nothing in real healthcare reform in over a decade and continue to do so. – hey hey
Oh Please. Thrust yourself outside of the DNC bubble for a minute and you’ll find many conservative ideas on reform. So that is either a lie, or a shocking display of ignorance.
This is some good reading:
The French healthcare system is funded by the working population. French employees pay about 20 per cent of their gross salary – the self-employed pay even more………Unlike in the UK in France treatment, whether private or public, is not free at the point of delivery. Even if you subscribe to the Sécurité sociale, on seeing a doctor or specialist (specialiste) you first pay the full bill (tarif) and are then reimbursed at a later date (about 10 days). Generally speaking, Sécurité sociale refunds 70 per cent of the cost of a visit to a médecin traitant (a GP or family doctor) and most specialistes. For more information on the level of reimbursement
http://www.frenchentree.com/fe-health/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=197
So despite paying 20%, or more intaxes for the system, it is still underfunded and cash strapped, AND you have to pay out of pocket in full to see your family doctor and hope you get reimbursed. Is that what they mean by hope and change? Hope that the government gives you back some change?
Hey, I wonder if any of you ObamaCare supporters (who will be shocked when you realize that it will end up applying to you if it passes, not just everyone else) can take a stab at these questions:
When it comes to this so called public option, exactly how will it work? Who will be covered? What are the co-pays? What are the deductibles? Are there weekly/monthly/yearly fees that need to be paid to have this insurance? What is covered? What isn’t covered? What doctors and medical centers will accept this insurance? Will doctors and medical centers be required by law to accept it? Since this is supposedly meant for those who “cannot afford” it right now, what monetary brackets will be allowed?
RE: do they walk smelling like roses?
No, JS, they don’t…they’re too lazy to wipe their own behind, so they’re waiting on Mama Pelosi and Barack to do it for them.
All in all, though, they’re really good workers. They’ve been working really hard, as hard as they can on making a huge mountain … know what kind of mountain it is though? Debt!
Teach,
This chart will answer some of your questions. I haven’t seen anything yet on what the actual costs (copays, deductibles, etc.) will be yet.
kmg1,
First question about your chart. If the reports are true, and there are nearly $500 million reported cuts to Medicare, how can that program stay unchanged as indicated in the chart?
Secondly, if there is going to be an 8% payroll tax on small business’s electing to stay privately insured, why wouldn’t the business’s simply drop their private insurance for the public option?
And finally, with the amount of financial losses that will be realized by the private insurance companies, where will those people currently employed find other jobs? And what impact on unemplyment will that have?
Also,
When do you think the deductibles and copays will be known? I mean don’t you think those are pretty important pieces to the puzzle? Especially in light of the fact that Congress almost voted to approve this in July, without any of us knowing this information.
cluster,
First, it isn’t my chart. Teach aksed some questions and I knew where at least one of the answers was. I can’t answer your other questions since I am not a member of Congress or the Administration.
I’ve said before that I am sure that what is currently in the bills is not the perfect solution. As it stands right now, though, it is the only solution being offered. The Republicans in Congress still have not released their proposed legislation so that we have something to compare it to.
Why is this important to you? You don’t intend to sign up for it, so it shouldn’t matter to you. Remember, it’s a choice.
Interesting, KMG. Thank you.
kmg1 displays a disturbing faith in government. A bureauracracy that has mismanaged every other entitlement program to date.
Hard to believe he just blindly rushes forward.
Why does it matter to me????
Are you serious?
No, actually, she didn’t. What she did was allude to a conclusion that had been arrived at by Betsy McCaughey, and she didn’t even allude to it properly (her exact words were “The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,’ whether they are worthy of health care.”). If you’re interested in how astute McCaughey’s analysis was, I strongly recommend watching her discuss it with Jon Stewart.
The government didn’t do that, and the Obama administration certainly did not. The housing bubble was purely the result of market forces.
Palin ended her career when she resigned in the middle of her term. Regardless of why she resigned, if you can’t fill out one term, you don’t get elected for a second. Giuliani has a) the baggage of his humiliatingly incompetent run for the presidency, b) a bunch of 9/11 firefighters who hate his guts, and c) been videotaped getting dirty with Donald Trump while wearing a dress. Jindal reminds people of Mr. Rogers and that guy from 30 Rock. That leaves Cantor, Romney, and Gingrich. Cantor is still a bit of a nobody. Romney has a lot of potential (and a cool music video), but the GOP sort of forgot about him after the primaries. Gingrich is a has-been, but is also such an intellectual heavyweight that he may still have a very bright future ahead of him.
thats so stupid surge…you need to think a bit longer before ya post there lad…so ya dont sound so dumb…
kmg1 says: (more mis statements about obamacare)
August 25th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
still cluess as ever…dont you think you should read the bill before you go gossipin about it and provin how clueless ya are…
I am beginning to think you actually fear my posts.
Nice!
BTW, the best possible service you could provide your dittoheads is to honestly report how much your insurance DOESN’T pay for your recent malady, medical and prescription-wise. If it’s zero, they all should sign up with your program. Let ‘em know when the bills arrive next month.
cluster,
Yes, I am serious. You don’t believe health care is a right. You proudly brag about the fact that you don’t have insurance and about your ability to negotiate costs. You have no intention of signing up for a public option or any other insurance plan and no bill is saying you can’t continue doing what you are currently doing. So given all that, why do you care about the public option?
Because my taxes will rise because of it. Ever thought of that rocket scientist?
Healthcare is not a right. Our only rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
If you consider healthcare to be a right, then you really need to include nutritious food & safe shelter, because good health is dependent on those provisions. Right?
