Well, when someone said that the GOP governor of Alaska is sharp as a tack, and a babe, I just had to take a look – and correct on both counts:
Challenges lie ahead, but let’s look back at the last year and at some accomplishments. In Education, we are shaping a three-year funding plan to finally shift the school debate from perpetual “money talk” to accountability and achievement! We are focusing on foundational skills needed in the “real-world” workplace and in college. In Natural Resources, we’ve opened arms to welcome development – but only responsibly, or not at all. Thanks to those abundant resources we will be able to provide for the urgent needs of our citizens. In Revenue, Alaskans ushered in a new era of stability with ACES, our new oil and gas appraisal system. It will provide protection even when oil prices aren’t as high as they are now. Ronald Reagan warned, “Government always finds a need for whatever money it gets.” I agree and that’s why we must save our surplus. My administration is proposing $7 billion dollars into the Permanent Fund, Constitutional Budget Reserve, the Education Fund and PERS/TRS debt relief. In Fish and Game, we are managing our fisheries based on science, not special interests. Alaska’s predator control program is showing results with greater wildlife populations so more Alaskans can hunt and feed their families the world’s healthiest, cleanest protein on God’s green earth. In Environmental Conservation, our Climate Change Sub-Cabinet has begun working on ways to adapt to impacts and we’re implementing the voter-mandated Ocean Rangers program. In Administration, we redesigned technology for government efficiency and transparency, including our nearly-complete online checkbook, showing Alaskans where their money is spent.
A lot of this relates, of course, to Alaska issues, but the Reaganism is loud and clear, and not just in the wonderful Reagan quote; free markets, free people, responsible stewardship. As for the “babe” judgement – picture available here.
McCain could do far worse in his Veep selection.
If history is any indicator, McCain would have a tough time keeping his paws off of her.

Not exactly a left-leaning website, either…
Give me a break. You are so stuck on something that is not a real issue. I mean, really, McCain is not Clinton.
Can’t speak to the babe factor, but the son and husband both look pretty good.
Palin could be an excellent pick especially if Obama is the nominee, which is looking more and more likely. Many women were planning to vote for Hillary just becasue she is a woman. I suspect some will stay home if Obama is the nominee. While the really radical bra burners would never vote for a republican woman, Palin could attract some moderate dems.
Congressive,
The site that you reference raises even more concerns about Obama. You no doubt are in agreement with their concerns right?
http://www.usvetdsp.com/dec06/obama_muslim.htm
Unless the VP candidate is from a purple state like Ohio or Florida It doesn’t matter. Only the voters in those states will take a closer look. If voters really looked at the VP candidtate when picking a President neither Bush Sr. or Jr. would go on to win the Presidency.
Okay let’s be rational about the Veepstakes. It’s pretty much a conundrum right now because the GOP was so bent on being able to run against Hillary and that would have meant Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty was a lock for GOP Veep. Now former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush is in the mix despite his family troubles he’s relatively squeaky clean and has awesome religious right street cred. Roy Blunt the governor of Misery falls into the same category minus the negative of the Bush name in some moderate circles.
Before Palin gets the nod among governors you have to leap over Haley Barbour and Bobby Jindal. The latter will almost certainly be in the mix for the White House in 2012 to spoil the new Romney run as Obama seems to have done with the Clinton inevitability
Hussein could easily counter with Rosie or Oprah, both easily as qualified as he is. Or The Dream ticket, Billary.
SEW
Wow that was really funny!
In that case why doesn’t McCain choose Joyce Meyer or Paula White to be his Veep? Yeah not so funny now is it? Rosie and Oprah actually give off an air of honor compared to those two crooks. But hey man you went there.
Obama will likely follow the Senator Governor trend and choose either Tim Kaine of Virginia or Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas. Hillary Clinton will never be VP. But cheer up you did win one of those moral victories the political right loves, you have likely succeeded at keeping HRC out of the Oval Office. Well, but to do that you virtually guaranteed that every judge appointed to the federal bench in the next two decades will have been tapped by a Democratic party in control of the Congress and the White House.
It’s gonna take more to win the WH back in 2016 that powerpoint presentations in evangelical churches, terror fear mongering and immigration xenophobia. You might want to get on board with some issues that the people really care about like reparing the crumbling US infrastructure, creating service industry jobs for the elderly in the face of the graying of the Boomers, job that can’t be outsourced as well as creating a net when the Go green! bubble collapses around 2018.
Well then how about William Jefferson or Hussein’s buddy in crime Rezko?
Now that is a dream team.
“you have likely succeeded at keeping HRC out of the Oval Office.”
Well, I voted for her in Texas yestereday, but I was under the general impression that the “Democratic” Party was doing this by disenfranchising entire states of “Democratic” voters. But spin as you wish.
And isn’t it insulting to be using Hillary’s middle initial? Imagine if someone used the name Hussein!
Wow you never cease to amaze me SEW what a fine and able opponent you are! I still think with either of those two they would beat MCain/ White or McCain/Meyer even if it energized the religious base.
I’ll do you a fvor and start referring to Barack Obama by his full name Barack Hussein Obama to see if it inspires visions of 9/11 or the Crusades or the two iraq wars, thus causing right thinking white voters to run back to the party of the Church of What’s happening Now, the GOP.
Yeah it makes good TV but for reality it can’t hold water. People want new ideas and a a fresh approach to the issues that matter to them and not recycled talking points about a religious based social agenda that has actually failed in so many ways.
Just take abstinence only sex ed for an example. Please take it.
The Islamophobia demonstrated on the Left is dispicable. Here we have a black man running for President, with THREE names of Middle Eastern origin, and the Islamophobia of the Left is all that matters!
How can we get along with the Muslims when such hatred and phobia is constantly exhibited by Obama’s [oops, there’s that Middle Eastern name again] supporters? All the hatred towards Mohammed and his followers!
“I still think with either of those two they would beat MCain/ White or McCain/Meyer even if it energized the religious base”
Probably true. Billary made if pretty far, with Whitewater, Vince Foster murder, FBI files….
Ted Kennedy killed his young date and was reelected. William Jefferson was reelected. “Democrats” have no problem with morals, just keep the handouts coming.
SEW,
I agree Democrats have no problem at all with morals scruples or ethics which makes them relatively bullet proof unless there are indictments. Imagine a GOP member of Congress lastinf as long as Rostenkowski did when he had a cookie jar stck to both wrists? I’m the last guy that’s gonna say the Democrats are without sin. That’s the kind of thing that’s damned your party. Loosen up and allow for the whiff of politcal corruption and a tad of amorality and your ideas might get better reception from the hoi polloi.
Wow, the Left is bringing out its sharp knives on this, aren’t they?
As I read the thread post, I wondered how long it would be before a mouthbreather tried to made a smutty comment about McCain and an attractive woman.
I guess we can see how their “minds” work, can’t we? What a surprise, to see predictable old congressive step up to the plate with his sniggering comment.
And Fred, what a piece of work he is! Take this gem, for instance: “…..powerpoint presentations in evangelical churches, terror fear mongering and immigration xenophobia.”
So much sliming in so few words. I’m already thinking Fred has been brought in off the bench now that Diana has failed so miserably.
OK, Fred, you seem to have some information about some candidate making a “powerpoint presentation”. And, as that is not damning enough, he did it in a CHURCH!
But wait!! It gets even worse!! It was in an EVANGELICAL church! Oh, the horror!!
Seems that the new buzzword is “evangelical” this year, kiddies—spread the word. (It’s code for “THEOCRACY”)
What is so funny about this quote is that Fred, evidently without the slightest awareness of the conflict (or just shameless…) refers to what he calls “fearmongering”—while at the very same time, in the very same sentence, trying to monger fear himself—fear of the dreaded EVANGELICAL, coming to …… well, no one really knows what fear the EVANGELICAL is supposed to represent, they haven’t come up with that yet, but so far it works pretty well to rile up the anti-religionists and they can work out some more details later.
But, back to Freddy’s tirade. He sneers about what he calls “terror fear mongering”. Good work, there, Fred. No reason to fear terrorists, any effort to try to keep the nation safe is just demogogic FEARMONGERING. I mean, it’s not as if anyone has actually killed any Americans in terrorist attacks, or anything. It’s not as if a man first orchestrated the slaughter of about 3000 Americans as they went to work one sunny day, and then spent the next few years promising to off a few thousand, or million, more.
Sheer invention, on the part of government, just to scare people. Guess it takes a Fred to see through the charade.
But wait a minute—isn’t this coming from the same group that castigated President Bush for failing to put the entire country on high alert and cancel all airline flights over a vague memo that someone, somewhere, might try to use some kind of an airplane to do some kind of bad thing?
But I digress. Any effort to introduce consistency into a Lefty rant is a waste of time. Just noticing..
So, back to Point # 3 in Freddy’s complaint—his reference to the desire to have secure borders as “immigration xenophobia”. Well, Fred, so far it appears that the United States is the least
“xenophobic” about immigration than pretty much any nation on earth.
Get out much, Fred? Ever try to enter another country? Ever run into—gasp!!—border control? A Peruvian friend wanted to visit Spain and was told he would have to have a written invitation to visit from a Spanish citizen, or a full itinerary, with prepaid hotel rooms, a return ticket for the day after his last hotel reservation, and a credit card with at least $3000 in credit. Xenophobic? Or experienced after learning how many people from South America had become illegal Spanish residents?
Fred, you presented some decent information regarding Nazi fascism, and in so doing acknowledged that you are a “researcher”. But this comment indicates that you do a lot of “research” on far Left talking points and Socialist demogoguery. Tsk Tsk.
Back to McCain and the possibilty, however slim, of him choosing an attractive woman as his VP candidate.
McCain might have committed adultery, with one woman. We do know he divorced his wife and married another woman. The Sex Police may have infiltrated motel rooms and so on to prove that an actual affair was taking place before the McCain marriage ended, but they don’t know.
But this should not have the slightest effect whatsoever on the way the Left looks at him, because the Left has taken the official position that a candidate, and even a President, is allowed to engage in any sexual activity he so desires, with any woman he chooses, whether or not she is willing, at any place, at any time, even while making official telephone calls to members of government, even with subordinates—and that the slightest bit of attention paid to this behavior, much less criticism of it, is merely proof of petty, prudish, and repressive sexual attitudes, and/or pathological voyeurism.
But it seems that the complaint about McCain is much the same as the one about Guiliani—that he only strayed once, and then married the woman, and was then faithful to her. Such a letdown after the licentious glory years of Clinton!
And didn’t this same rabid Left absolutely fall in LOVE with a man who not only dumped his wife for a billionairess, but then proceeded to have the Catholic Church officially declare that the marriage of 17 years had never even occurred, making his wife a what??? concubine?? mistress?? for all those years, and his daughters illegitimate?
Guys, just the tiniest little HINT of consistency, and we might not look at you with such disdain. But this slavering after anything you think you might be able to spin into something vile and nasty so you can roll around in it just makes you all seem so—-creepy.
Off the bench! LOL! Oh man you’ve done it it’s on now!
Whatever!
Almiratna…
So much sliming in so few words. Funny that comes from you.
I’ve never seen anyone say less with so many words. Good grief. Not sure who said it the other day, but you would be a great keyboard tester!
Joe, just think of it a test of your attention span. Sorry you are left in the dust. BTW, do you ever address points and issus, or just scan for length and think that qualifies you to comment?
See comments on litter boxes and Liberal attitude that this is one where they are free to deposit their little droppings at will. Reference: Posts 15 and 16. Pointless, but typical of the sources.
There reason they call you guys winguts is because you spin to the right when things get tight.
You assumed I was speaking of a candidate going to a church I said no such thing.
The presentations I speak of were given in many churches throughout the United States during the post convention period in 2004 by political public relations firms paid by conservative Christian organizations and there is nothing illegal at all about this practice because they never set the precedent of saying what candidate to vote for they merely spoke about “conservative values” and let the parishioners follow the trail of peanut shells to the big gray elephant. The common denominator was the churches were mostly evangelical and mostly white in the American South. And of course the patriotic images and lightly veiled threats to their “way of life” moved voters out of the pews and into the polls. Anything that gets people to vote is a good thing, right?
And no when I mean theocracy of the Doug Coe James Dobson Jerry Falwell variety I say theocracy. When I say evangelical I mean a person who goes to church for appearances or not that’s easily duped by an inherent fear of his way of life being usurped by some he or she thinks does not deserve it because they do not share their same plae skin tone. We clear on that?
As for the fearmongering there are many thousands of adults in the United States that are really scared that some terror event will kill them or someone they love. To play on those fears is cruel and to me very unusual in a Republic. Close your eyes for a sec and think back to the day after September 11, 2001. Remember how eerily calm everything was and how stunned people were that this could happen to America. There was no such feeling after the Oklahoma City bombing just grief at the horror that was caused. Know why? I’ll tell you. Because it came out very early that the worst terror attack in US history was done by a domestic source. Then it was found to be a 20 something white kid with Army experience disillusioned with a government he saw as pro everything but his own kind. Now how in the heck can the Christian Right get behind hating themselves? Fearmongering only works as a ploy on the weak minded and in that case the Liberals do need to be worried that it will have an affect on the Christian Right.
The real nut here is how many people do you think al Qaeda can really kill? Can they get to the point when America gives up? Well if you believe that then you believe they can win the war on terror and that means you think America can lose. I’ve read studies and talked to people who say that the US could survive a nuclear detonation that killes every man woman and child in New York City with resulting radiation killing over time eighteen million more of cancer and other diseases in a year. Twenty seven million people dead in twelve months from a smuggled series of Russian nuclear warheads; that’s the worst case scenario. Now how are you gonna tell me that any number smaller that that brings the United States to its knees? The response to that would be counter to US economic interests the sitting president would have to destroy Islam, literally, and systematically kill 2 billion human beings because at that point there is no other enemy to fight. This is what I’m talking about when I say fearmongering because what the GOP does is the boogeyman thing and reality IS people jumping out of building one day and in a year’s time things are relatively back to normal. Terrorism is no more a threat to the American free market capitalist democracy than global warming is. Your side just wants the most weak among you to believe that it is.
Let’s see what else have you got for me here. Oh yeah, immigrant xenophobia. Yeah okay in saying that I’m calling your party racist. Period. This because you point to illegal immigration, Latinos crossing a porous border to work in jobs that Americans have shown clearly they do not want because;
1) The work is too hard
2) The wages are too low
3) See number 1
4) Crime pays better
You had a GOP congress and a GOP president and a mandate after 9/11 why didn’t you build that border fence with the gun turrets then? That’s right it would have been outside the economic interest of the business community in the United States. And I don’t mean just agribusiness, hospitality; retail, construction and other services would have gone wanting for slots to be filled. But Liberals are the cause of that problem too even though you have no facts to substantiate that claim.
Sex Police?? That’s rich; who was it again that made an Impeachment proceeding out of lie about a blow job in the Oval Office? And yes I’m big enough to admit a historical fact that PRESIDENT WLLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON LIED UNDER OATH. That’s far more than you’ll ever admit about the criminal nature of the Bush/Cheney White House.
And the Kerry annulment I forward you to Mark Noonan who can explain this far better than I can.
Almiranta just does go on so, even to the extent of citing me by name on a thread where I haven’t even commented. It does make one wonder what the obsession is. Perhaps she imagines herself as Dorothy Parker to the Blogs For Victo(r)y Round Table.
Mark,
The word is spelled “judgment” and your judgment in twice referring to the Governor of Alaska as “a babe” is questionable. Governor Palin is a very attractive woman. However, she’s not posing for the cover of Maxim magazine. She’s the governor of the largest state in the Union. So she’s physically appealing and that means what regarding her ability to potentially be the President of the United States? If that’s an important criterion then Mitt Romney should have pounded the other GOP hopefuls.
Regardless, kudos to Sarah Palin for her many accomplishments in multiple areas of endeavor. It’s refreshing to see a chief executive who believes in following the law. She enacted same-sex couple benefits for state employees because the Alaska Supreme Court had ruled that the state was required to do so. It’s also interesting to see her interest in curbing greenhouse gas emissions in Alaska.
Of course, it’s fascinating to see all of the comments about Senator Obama’s presumed lack of foreign policy experience and yet here we have speculation about making someone “one heartbeat away from the Presidency” whose previous foreign policy experience is being the mayor of a suburb of Anchorage whose population is less than 10,000.
Diana you must have been one hell of a great cop!
And just for you Al Miranda bin Ebro the link to the WaPo story on GOP church organizing
But Diana, she is a babe. Besides, the GOP will need those 3 Alaskan electoral votes come November.
Al Gore needed Tennessee, Bush needed Texas, and Edwards needed Carolina. How did that work out? But will Barack carry the Muslim vote after spacing himself from his father’s, his grandfather’s and his given name, and the liberals demonstrating their Islamophobia?
SEW,
You’re a stitch. Seriously. The right wing is just obsessed with Senator Obama’s parentage and they’re the same ones who want to invoke the Islamofascist neologism at every turn. Coincidence? Oh, I think not. However, not to worry, Senator McCain has already publicly condemned right-wing radio host Bill Cunningham in saying about Cunningham’s comments leading into a McCain rally in Cincinnati, “I absolutely repudiate such comments, and again I will take responsibility — it will never happen again. It will never happen again.”
