What Media Bias? Part 112

When it was suicide-bomber violence all the time, the MSM couldn’t get enough coverage of Iraq…even if they had to use video and pictures provided by (and sometimes staged by) the terrorists, themselves….my, how times have changed:

NEW YORK — Remember the war in Iraq?

The question isn’t entirely facetious. The war has nearly vanished from TV screens over the past few months, replaced by stories about the fascinating presidential campaign and faltering economy.

Yet Americans continue to fight and die there, five years after the war started in March 2003…

…Statistics clearly illustrate the diminished attention. For the first 10 weeks of the year, the war accounted for 3 percent of television, newspaper and Internet stories in the Project for Excellence in Journalism’s survey of news coverage. During the same period in 2007, Iraq filled 23 percent of the news hole.

The difference is even more stark on cable news networks: 24 percent of the time spent on Iraq last year, just 1 percent this year.

And its not like there isn’t plenty of “if it bleeds, it leads” sort of stories to report from Iraq…but it seems that stories of terrorists bleeding at the hands of Coalition and Iraqi forces just doesn’t command the media attention which suicide bombs used to. Why is this? Simple – to report from Iraq in 2008 is to report that we’re winning – and this doesn’t fit the MSM template for Iraq, and thus it becomes a non-story.

But we here at Blogs for Victory haven’t forgotten the war – and here’s a recent story of another victory in Iraq.

Just out of curiosity Mark, do you have to request the human interest stories you post here from the Heritage Foundation, or are you just on their mailing list?

2000 American servicemen have given their lives since the Iraqi’s held their elections in October 2005. Here is an X for each fallen soldier.

It wouldn’t be a week at Blogs For Victo(r)y without a slavering pack of Lefties whining about Iraq, Afghanistan, Osama Bin Laden, Bush, and anything else that does not fit into the rabid socialist agenda.

Clearly, on this thread alone, by the end of Monday they will have met their quota.

We rely so much on the media, we forget the most basic teaching we learned in Kindergarden.

All you really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be, you learn in kindergarten. Wisdom is not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but back there in the sand pile at school.

    Share everything.

    Play fair.

    Don’t hit people.

Put things back where you found them.

    Clean up your own mess.

Don’t take things that aren’t yours.

Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody.

Wash your hands before you eat.

    Flush.

Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

Live a balanced life – learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

    Take a nap every afternoon.

When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.

Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup – they all die. So do we.

And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned – the biggest word of all – LOOK.

    Almiranti,

It’s funny you should mention slavering and whining because those are two common traits of someone that’s been mortality wounded. Oftentimes a soldier will begin to slaver and yet they complain about being thirsty.

In 100 degree heat it is common for a wounded man to feel chilled to the bone and they always complain about being so very cold.

Usually they will whine, and cry and beg to see their mommies.

It always struck me as odd how grown men would cry for their mommies just before they die. Then they are silent.

The “socialist agenda” of not buying into simplistic narratives, either from the media or Blogs For Victo(r)y? Curse you, thought!
