"Bin Laden" Attacks Pope, EU

Me? I think the cretin is dead – a grease spot in the Toro Bora: honestly, how hard would be be to get a good, clear picture of Osama holding up a recent newspaper, if his troops wanted to really prove he’s alive? Anyways, bin Laden, of someone claiming to be him, has issued a new series of threats:

DUBAI (Reuters) – Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden threatened the European Union with grave punishment on Wednesday for publication of cartoons mocking Islam’s Prophet Mohammad.

In an audio recording posted on the Internet coinciding with the birthday of Islam’s founder, bin Laden said the drawings, considered offensive by Muslims, were part of a “new crusade” in which Pope Benedict was involved.

“Your publications of these drawings — part of a new crusade in which the Pope of the Vatican had a significant role — is a confirmation from you that the war continues,” said the Saudi-born militant leader, addressing “those who are wise at the European Union”.

You are “testing Muslims … the answer will be what you shall see and not what you hear.”

The usefullness of this diatribe is that it does serve to remind that the enemy is the enemy of us all – right, left; Christian, atheist; black, white…it doesn’t matter: if you are not Islamist, the Islamists have you scheduled for slavery, or for the chopping block. It doesn’t matter how much anyone tries to talk to them; doesn’t matter how much pressure is put on Israel; doesn’t matter if we close Gitmo and pull out of Iraq – the enemy is still going to be our enemy and they will attack us with all their might as often as they can. The pity of it all is that so many people from the most base of motives simply refuse to see things as they are – this war might well have been completely won by now if all of those who are enemies of the Islamists had stood together…but, no, people on the left preferred to hate President Bush…hating him, after all, is a lot less risky than standing up to people who cut off your head if you get in their way…

No no no! You’ve got it all wrong. We don’t prefer to hate Bush. We hate the utter and complete incompetence with which Bush has waged his jihad with bin Laden and his ilk.

How do you accept that Bush “just doesn’t think about [bin Laden] much”?

WHHAAAATTT?!?!?! Osama (or at least his stunt double) is still there. Don’t you find that humiliating? Don’t you find the very existence of the Taliban humiliating?

$500 BILLION spent so far, with impunity, and you’re gonna blame it on the peaceniks? Really? Bush has been handed every penny and every resource he has requested, more in fact, and you’re gonna blame Cindy Sheehan? Really?

Bush has proven himself incompetent, all the while draining us of treasure and blood. A monkey with a bb gun could have managed this so-called war better. Why is he still in charge? Why do you STILL trust him? I thought you all couldn’t be fooled again.

    And again.

    And again.

This “Bin Laden” audio tape makes me suspect that Osama bin Laden is dead. Jihad against the Muhammad cartoons?!? This from the scary uber terrorist who perpetrated 9/11, reduced to waging war on cartoons. Pathetic.

    congressive,

It’s much easier to find a scape goat than to atone one’s self for their own mistakes.

    congressive,

I trust him because the war has been a tremendous success – if you want to see what failed warmaking looks like I suggest you look up things like “Sedan” and “Tannenberg”….you see, it is only in your hate-filled, anti-Bush mind that the war has been going badly…for those of us in the real world, its gone quite well, especially given the normal frictions surrounding a war (the phrase “fog of war” wasn’t coined for no reason, ya know?).

    “Failed warmaking”?

Yes, I saw the documentary titled “Fog of War.” You could learn something from it, Mark – in fact I highly recommend it.

For once we’re in agreement. I think Bin Laden has been dead for years, and hell, now even the message doesn’t try to pretend he’s speaking live… not after the gold-jewellery bedecked, far younger Bin Laden stand-in that appeared in the last video.

And for the record, I don’t hate Bush. Or Cheney. Or ANY politician. Don’t mistake hatred for disagreement with policies. I’m sure I could sit down and have a very interesting talk with Bush, and come away admiring the man in some ways. But that still doesn’t mean that I don’t think he’s made a mess of the country, or that I think his policies suck – I do think these things, and with a passion. But I don’t hate him. Hatred is something the right wingers like to attribute at the drop of the proverbial hat but it’s rarely accurate.
