Stand Aside on Iran? (Bumped)

If you can watch this video (warning, graphic) and say we should still engage the mullahs and not take sides…then you are lacking all sense of love for your fellow human beings.

UPDATE: Could it be that Obama is going soft on the mullahs because he doesn’t want to risk nuclear negotiations? Probably – so, in order to secure a nuclear deal the mullahs won’t honor, we are going to throw our honor into the sewer and leave the Iranian people to their fate. Makes me sick.

UPDATE II: Gay Patriot notes that we can – and should – be unified on this issue:

On Friday night in synagogue, I approached a left-of-center friend of mine, like me, wearing a green shirt. I asked if she were wearing that color “for the right reason.” Indeed, she was, replying that this was one issue, like Darfur, where conservatives and liberals were in agreement.

While I would dare say there are few more such issues, I was delighted that she and I agreed on this one. She is a good person who actually listens to me when I explain my positions on various social and political issues. I can only hope that I have shown as much respect for her views as she has for mine.

UPDATE III: As events unfold in Iran, I have to ask – does President Obama consider, even for a moment, what he’d do if it were his older daughter shot down by inhuman thugs? I know, that’s harsh – but we have to be. We can no longer afford the niceties, nor can we pretend we don’t understand what is really at stake. A society which cannot protect young, innocent girls is not a society worthy of survival. The question to ask ourselves is not, “what if we end up making it worse?” but, instead, “is there anything actually worse than a fine, young lady being butchered on the street?”. There’s nothing we can do regarding Iran which will make a situation worse than what there already is and anything we do may very well make it much better. So, let’s do it. Let’s roll, in the words of an American hero.

There is much we can do without taking a direct hand – we can blow up Iran’s sole oil refinery, thus cutting off Iran’s government from the gasoline necessary to move their gangs of thugs around the country; we can intercept, on the quiet, Iranian oil shipments, thus cutting off the money Iran’s government needs to pay the gangs of thugs; we can hamper at a thousand points Iran’s ability to oppress its own people…and anyone out there who says that American action will cause the Iranian people to rally to their inhuman regime are just being absurd “oh, ok, since Americans are willing to help me, I’m going to join up with those who murdered my daughter in cold blood”…that is what you have to believe the Iranian people will do, if you really think that American action will give support to Iran’s government.

Fight and fight and then fight some more – we must become, in a large sense, knights who will do battle with injustice and evil regardless of the risk to ourselves.
