Despite mounting calls for his resignation, Republican South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford continues his fight to stay in office.
Sanford has scheduled a 3:30 PM news conference today at the statehouse in Columbia.
The news conference comes one day after Sanford received a letter, signed by 61 of the 72 Republicans controlling the South Carolina House of Representatives, asking for his resignation. On Tuesday, Republican House Speaker Bobby Harrell sent the governor a similar letter…
It is reported that Sanford wants us to hear “the rest of the story” – errrmmm, yeah. Governor, “the rest of the story” is that you cheated on your wife. Once upon a time you took your soul in your hands and swore a holy oath to God and your wife that you would forsake all others. Some time later, you threw aside your sworn word and had an affair. This doesn’t preclude you from serving your fellow man – this doesn’t preclude you from gaining God’s forgiveness and entering in to the joy of the life of the world to come…but it does mean you need to atone for your oath-breaking, and you can’t do that while in office.
Go, and let us hear no more of you for some years. Do something worthwhile which none of us know about – and then get back to us.
