Texas Rangers to the Border

Doing the job the federal government refuses:

Special teams of Texas Rangers will be deployed to the Texas-Mexico border to deal with increasing violence because the federal government has failed to address growing problems there, Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday.

“It is an expansive effort with the Rangers playing a more high-profile role than they’ve ever played before,” Perry said of the Department of Public Safety’s elite investigative unit.

The forces, dubbed “Ranger recon” teams, are the latest effort “to fill the gap that’s been left by the federal government’s ongoing failure to adequately secure our international border with Mexico,” he said.

What the pro-immigration activists, sundry liberals, “cheap labor” libertarians and race-baiters don’t get is that securing the border is in the interest of justice in its most basic form. By having an unsecure border, we are just giving free reign to criminals of all types who are causing murder and mayhem – including, and most especially, on those people just trying to cross the border to find work. It is pro-immigrant to be in favor of securing the border; pro-immigrant, pro-law, pro-justice…pro-basic human decency.

But we don’t – and we must not forget that while Bush did better than everyone else, he still failed to fully secure our southern border. Now that Obama is in office, the signal is out that we will be more and more lax in our border enforcement – this is just making a bad situation in to a disaster. And, so, Texas is doing the right thing – the people of Texas have a right to justice being secured on their border with Mexico. If the US government won’t do its duty, then the Texas government must do it, or be complicit in immoral failure.

“Whatever it takes” should be our motto on border security – and keep in mind that I am a pro-immigrant person who wises to find a path to citizenship for the illegals in country. But before we do anything, we must make our border just and secure. If this requires a 100 foot high, barbed-wire-topped concrete wall along the whole length of the border, then that is what we’re going to have to do – for our benefit and the benefit of those innocent foreigners who just want to find work. President Obama should pay heed to Texas’ action and fall in line with this simple enforcement of essential justice.
