THE National Health Service has spent £1.5m paying for hundreds of its staff to have private health treatment so they can leapfrog their own waiting lists.
More than 3,000 staff, including doctors and nurses, have gone private at the taxpayers’ expense in the past three years because the queues at the clinics and hospitals where they work are too long.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information act show that NHS administrative staff, paramedics and ambulance drivers have also been given free private healthcare. This has covered physiotherapy, osteopathy, psychiatric care and counselling — all widely available on the NHS.
You see, liberals, the problem with government health care is that it doesn’t work. Its not that it can be done better than it has, but that it never can be any good, at all. Even the much-hyped French health service is going broke and waiting times are rising. It just can’t be done – you can’t de-couple the cost of health care from the consumption of health care and have a good system. If its “free”, it will be used more than it should – and if its government controlled, there is less incentive for supply to increase (supplies normally increase when there is additional profit to be made, you see? Or am I speaking in terms too difficult for you liberals to grasp). Unless you can staff the entire health system with self-sacrificing saints, it just won’t work.
Give up your insane dream – work to provide health care for the poor (it is ok if you, personally, go out and volunteer your time and money….seriously: you’ll feel great when you do it), but don’t try and make perfection out of imperfect human beings. Leave the salvation of Mankind to Our Lord – you just work on trying to make the day a little better for those around you.
