Fixing America's Housing Crisis

No doubt about it, we’re in a fix as far as housing goes. While some short sighted analysts are pumping up recent data alleging a growth in home sales, the fact of the matter is that in raw numbers of houses sold, we’re clearly in a housing Depression. Prices continue to drop, foreclosures continue at a rapid pace, and the incidence of strategic default (ie, people walking away from homes they can afford because the market value is so much less than the mortgage balance) continue to rise. Rosy housing scenarios have us maintaining prices right about where they are now, but I fully expect major reductions in home prices unless we some how change the dynamics of the market.

Here is the terrible scenario – we’re already in the dumpster on home prices and as this dumpster spreads, it pushes more and more people “underwater” on their mortgages, thus stressing their willingness to keep up consumption and/or making them more likely to just walk away from their homes…

(Please Take the Time to read this!)
    American Recovery
A plan to revitalize the American economy by moving foreclosed homes and putting the American people back to work.
I have heard on several news programs time and time again that the recession will not end until the housing market can get fixed.
Well here is a plan to fix the housing market, create jobs, put more money back into circulation, and raise our Great Nations GDP. Please do not just dismiss this idea.
If you look at the lotteries of today the Powerball and Mega Millions grow by $20 million every 3-4 days on the hopes of being the next person to be 1 in 195,249,054 to be the grand prize winner or even 1 in 5,138,133 to win $200,000. Even the prize of winning $10,000 the odds are 1 in 723,144. And the only person to benefit from that is a few people.
With that in mind here is what I propose.
Why not take the millions of foreclosed homes we have in America and basically raffle them off?
Think about this… If you take an average foreclosed home, bank owned at $150,000 and tell the bank they will get the full amount owed on the home and whatever costs to bring the home to Move-in ready status, what do you think they would say?
Now in order to get the home to move in ready status how many contractors and inspectors would you are able to put back to work? Not to mention the amount of Money spent on materials going back into the economy and the jobs created for the sales, and manufacture of the materials. And that is just the small part!
Now here comes the big part… Imagine being able to put the American people into a completely paid off home for as little as $1-$10. Now you have a family living in a home with just the property taxes to pay for each year. What do you think the average American family would do with that extra money? Hint… Spend it at local retailers therefore creating more money for local business’s to expand and create more jobs. With that you will be bringing up our nations GDP by getting the foreclosed homes moving and people back to work.
There are so many ways that this plan will impact our Great Nation with all of them being positive. We the American people can no longer rely on someone else to figure out how to save us from this recession and let our leaders keep throwing good money after bad at Wall Street and Big Business in hopes that they will save us. It is time for the American people to save ourselves and this is a surefire way to do that.
Now down to the simplicity of this plan. You have several options of how the odds work depending on the price of the home being raffled. If you take the Home in the example above you could charge $1 a ticket, selling 500,000 tickets (raising $500,000) thus making your odds 1in 500,000 and offering 100 $1000 dollar winners to keep more money circulating in the economy and this should still leave more than enough to cover operating costs. Those odds are even better than your odds of winning just $10,000 in one of the lotteries. You could also do a $2, $5, $10 ticket raffle as well, lowering the odds or generating $1M, $2.5M, and $5M again depending on the price of the home and what kind of second place winners you would like to have. Always with more than enough to cover the operating costs. The Raffle should take place just a few days after the last ticket is sold keeping the raffle moving at a fast pace and not having to wait months to see if you won. Now remember the lotteries are growing by an average of
$20M every 3-4 days, imagine how many homes we could move every week.
The catch is that our Government has a law that restricts the raffling off of a home to a non-profit Organization. Not a bad law, it keeps the scam artists from getting involved. However in order to make this work it has to be a very large non-profit Organization or Government ran to be able to generate the publicity and get the word out to everyone. Again not a bad thing except for I am involved in neither. If we the American people can get one of the two involved I believe that we the American people can and will save ourselves!
I thank you for your time and ask you please to take the time to get involved and make our country great once again by helping us to help ourselves.
    Sincerely,
