From NRO’s The Corner:
Sen. John McCain defended the Tea Party against Sen. John Kerry’s “tea party downgrade” remark on Meet the Press this morning.
“We could have reached an agreement a lot earlier, but the members of the House of Representatives had a mandate last November, and it was jobs and the economy and it was spending. And for them to then agree to tax increases and spending increases was obviously a repudiation of the mandate they felt they had from last November,” McCain said.
He said that much of the “dysfunction” in the current political system could be attributed to “the failure of the president of the United States to lead.”…
Some times John McCain can be infuriating, other times he’s just so right. And gutsy – right now, the MSM/DNC drumbeat is that the TEA Party caused the problem. Here is a chance for “moderate” GOPers to flee and mumble their agreement. Not for John McCain – he just told it like it is: the TEA Party is about cutting government spending. To have agreed to tax hikes in lieu of serious spending cuts (and what we got in the deal was no where near “serious” enough to warrant signing off on revenue increases) would have been a rank betrayal.
To be sure, Democrats are all about that – in fact, over the past 40 years Democrats have mostly managed to advance their cause by gift of GOPers betraying principle and go along with whatever liberal flapdoodle is the fashion of the moment. Remember Arlen Specter – that was the sort of “Republican” who was forever cutting the GOP off at the knees. And that is precisely the sort of Republican the TEA Party people will not be.
Ultimately, we may have to obtain higher revenues in order to get out of this mess – but the fact of the matter is that Democrats will just lie about the spending cuts and greedily spend any increased revenue on their special interests. In a very real sense, the Democrat leadership in the United States doesn’t care about the United States. If they did, they would have proposed a real cut in next year’s spending – even if it were a symbolic cut of 10 or 20 billion. I mean, of course, real cuts – not reductions in the rate of growth, but an actual spending of less money next year than we did this year. Until Democrats show a real change of heart – show that they care more about America than they do about their own power and wealth – then we simply cannot go along with them…and thus the TEA Party standing firm against any tax hikes was an act of sublime patriotism. It took away from those who are destroying the United States part of their ability to keep doing it.
McCain sees it; I see it, too. Eventually, the whole country will see it – and I do believe that this growing understanding of what is really happening will destroy liberalism in 2012.
UPDATE: In Canada, Saskatchewan gets a “TEA Party upgrade” to it’s bond rating:
…Rather than quickly spending its newly-earned wealth, the provincial government has put its tax revenue toward paying the bills. S&P gave special credit to Saskatchewan for its “low-and-declining debt burden.” As of March 31, the province’s fiscal year-end, Saskatchewan’s debt totalled $4.6-billion, representing 38 per cent of this year’s projected operating revenues and only 8 per cent of its gross domestic product. Canada’s federal debt-to-GDP ratio sits at around 35 per cent…
Rational tax and regulatory policies, a pro-business environment, fiscal responsibility which puts a premium on living within means and paying debt. This isn’t rocket science, people…
Thank you Tea Party for the down grade of the US debt. Your object to take down the US economy is working. And the GOP doesn’t have the courage to take the Tea Party on to do the right thing. The GOP number one objective is to make sure Obama is not re-elected. No matter the cost to the country. Power over country! I am sure you Tea Party members are very pleased with yourselves.

Ahhhhh, leave it to dreggs to regurgitate the “TEA Party downgrade” dumbed down talking point that every lib from David Axelrod all the way to Howard Dean spewed over the weekend.
It is a shame that such drones as dreggs, jeffy, denny, etc. etc. will mindlessly regurgitate these dumbed down talking points instead of the facts.
FACTS such as those from the S&P. They demanded more CUTS than tax increases errrrr “revenue increases”:
“The decision by Standard & Poor’s to downgrade the U.S. credit rating to “AA+” at once laments the possibility that cuts to entitlement programs will not materialize and the decreasing likelihood of new tax revenues. But it appears to give more weight to the need for more spending cuts, as it warns that a further credit rating downgrade is in the cards if the U.S. does not trim spending.”

In the early morning hours of Jan. 7, 2007, Christopher Newsom and his girlfriend Channon Christian were carjacked and held captive in a house on Chipman Street in Knoxville. Both were raped, tortured and killed. Newsom’s body was discovered in the vicinity that afternoon burning alongside railroad tracks. Christian’s body was found stuffed in a trashcan inside the house a couple of days later. Five people were arrested

I really do hope that liberals and the Obama regime continue to blame the tea party. After all, they do blame everyone else for everything, and don’t take responsibility for anything, and the American voters are taking note. The vast majority of rational, common sense Americans don’t like people who don’t take responsibility and choose to blame others for their problems, so this will play well for conservatives in 2012.
I would like to address a little piece of liberal brain dmage from an earlier thread:
We have been financing the middle east war against the US by buying oil for years. And yet, no one seems to want to get off of oil. – Sunny
Most of our oil comes from Canada and Mexico. The ME imports I think are 4th on the list of suppliers. This also ignores the need to tap into domestic reserves which has been debated for 20+ years. Had we tapped into our own reserves back then, this would be completely non-sensical argument, but evidently liberals want to continue our dependence on other nations.

‘Bulls**t!’: Al Gore Comes ‘Unhinged’ During Climate Change Speech
“This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes.’ Bulls**t!”
So maybe that’s why Al Gore decided to unleash on climate change skeptics last week during a speech at the Aspen Institute in Colorado. The Colorado Independent notes that Gore launched into a vulgar tirade while accusing skeptics of media manipulation:
The model of media manipulation used then, Gore said, “was transported whole cloth into the climate debate. And some of the exact same people — I can go down a list of their names — are involved in this. And so what do they do? They pay pseudo-scientists to pretend to be scientists to put out the message: ‘This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes.’ Bullshit! ‘It may be sun spots.’ Bullshit! ‘It’s not getting warmer.’ Bullshit!” Gore exclaimed.
agree with him.
climate change is a reality. It’s most likely caused by man.
But then again, I wouldn’t expect you to accept science. You don’t believe in evolution either.
It’s interesting to note that the Japanese are predicting global cooling as the earth continues along it’s orbit. The reason? Currently the earth is at it’s closest point to the sun in it’s orbit.
This will not effect thomas’s opinion though. He doesn’t like common sense.
cluster,
common sense? this coming from a guy who doesn’t believe seat belts save lives.
common sense would dictate that when about 90% of global climate scientists agree and confirm through data and research, you’d believe them and start to heed their word….instead, kooks like yourself deny deny deny.
Statistics do show that seat belts save lives, but that wasn’t the premise of the argument, was it? Or do you even remember?
Since you are a true believe in global warming, I would be interested in hearing your solutions. How do we adequately address this issue of global warming?
we alone can’t issue the problem. It needs to be an effort by the Chinese and Indians as well.
The easiest solution for us is to start increasing gas mileage in cars (which will be so by 2025) and by investing in alternative energies.
Look at what Germany just recently did, they got 25% of their energy from nuclear, and they said they will be making that ZERO by 2030.
It seems over the past 10 years, since 2001 really, this nation can’t accomplish anything. I am sad to say that we are losing our global dominance slowly but surely.
Oh well, every empire has it’s day. Look at the British and French 500 years ago, and look at them now…
Those aren’t solutions thomas, those are bumper sticker slogans. I want specifics?
– Raising gas mileage will only add to the cost of cars, which will hurt sale, hurt union jobs and make transportation more expensive for the lower class.
– Alternative energies? What alternative energies? What alternative source of energy do you see can be mass produced enough to sustain a population of 300 million in the next 15 years?
– And what are your plans about China and India? What do you propose to do?
– Raising gas mileage will only add to the cost of cars, which will hurt sale, hurt union jobs and make transportation more expensive for the lower class.
that’s a flat out lie. There are cars on the market today that are cheaper when adjusted for inflation than 20 years ago and get better gas mileage. last I checked the japanese were producing civics with better gas mileage than ford and still selling it at a cheaper price. And they have unions as well. Don’t give me this faux pity for the lower class when every policy position you hold is against the poor.
– Alternative energies? What alternative energies? What alternative source of energy do you see can be mass produced enough to sustain a population of 300 million in the next 15 years?
once again, you can make a portion of your energy supply from alternatives. Wind farms have huge potential in this nation. Natural gas, which though a fossil fuel, is much cleaner can be used. We have more natural gas than Saudi has oil and yet, all people want to do is drill for oil. kind of backwards isn’t it?
– And what are your plans about China and India? What do you propose to do?
couple of easy solutions. The Chinese are currently developing huge hydroelectric dams in order to meet their energy needs. my company right now, which is a global fortune 20 company is developing clean energy projects in China. All it takes is a little more investment from American companies to make it more viable and attainable.
Taht’s just a start, here at home we could give government tax breaks to companies developing alternatives in order to reduce carbon footprints for companies and corporations. Here in Texas, they have reports about controlled rolling blackouts! imagine that, this is supposed to be the wealthiest nation on earth…and there are blackouts of 1 to 2 hours during hot days….
There are cars on the market today that are cheaper when adjusted for inflation than 20 years ago – thomas
Seriously? You do know that a Prius costs about $25K-$30K right? And I don’t think the lower class income people will be comforted by your opinion. They rely on cheap transportation in real dollars, not inflation adjusted.
– Wind farms are not very promising and may ultimately account for less than 2% percent of energy needs. And I do agree with you on natural gas, but unfortunately your side of the aisle wont let us drill for it. Other than that, there is NOT an alternative energy source that is even close to being viable.
I was surprised that you didn’t mention taxes, but you did mention helping China build their infrastructure. Where will that money come from?
Seriously? You do know that a Prius costs about $25K-$30K right?
Prius is a HYBRID. I didn’t say hybrid. I said REGULAR gasoline vehicles that get about 35mpg-40mpg. Nice moving of the goal posts.
And I don’t think the lower class income people will be comforted by your opinion. They rely on cheap transportation in real dollars, not inflation adjusted.
the fact that you don’t realize cars are cheaper today than 20 years ago, and get better mileage just simply shows your ignorance.
Wind farms are not very promising and may ultimately account for less than 2% percent of energy needs.
This is another blanket lie. Europeans are using wind farms for up to 10-15% of their energy source, and yet they can’t be used here? where is your evidence that wind farms aren’t very promising?
And I do agree with you on natural gas, but unfortunately your side of the aisle wont let us drill for it.
another blanket lie. I am in the industry now going on 10 years, there are plenty og natural gas companies that are drilling. But oil is more profitable right now. Without government subsidies for natural gas research and production, it won’t take off.
I was surprised that you didn’t mention taxes, but you did mention helping China build their infrastructure. Where will that money come from?
you don’t know about investments in China do you? Like I said, my company is investing in chinese projects and making handsome amounts of money. GE does it all the time. Companies need to be urged to invest in Chinese infrastructure so that it does two things. 1. generate profits and on some levels jobs here at home for skilled engineers and labor. 2. China can become a testing ground for new energy technologies and will help us out immensely.
where is your evidence that wind farms aren’t very promising?
This is from the largest wind farm in the nation:
In 2004, wind energy in California produced 4,258 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, about 1.5 percent of the state’s total electricity.
http://www.solaripedia.com/13/160/1489/san_gorgonio_wind_farm_in_california.html
And the Prius is the new breed of cars. Why do you demonize oil, and restrict the access to, but at the same time expect car manufacturers to keep building them?
wait, so because there aren’t ENOUGH wind farms and they therefore don’t produce more than the 1.5% of our energy needs…..all of a sudden they aren’t viable?
Hello, mcfly, there aren’t ENOUGH wind farms to make a dent in our energy needs. Did you ever think that with subsidies on startup costs and associated equipment costs wind farms would be able to reach the 10-15% range they have already reached in Europe and Australia? What kind of twisted logic are you using?
And the Prius is the new breed of cars. Why do you demonize oil, and restrict the access to, but at the same time expect car manufacturers to keep building them?
who ever demonized oil? the point is, if we use LESS oil per day, with cars that have a better gas mileage rating, we will be able to EXTEND the oil we do have LONGER. This isn’t rocket science…well maybe for you it is.
You said the prius is expensive, but then deny that there are about 15 cars right now on the market that are gasoline only that get about 35 mpg.
The fact is that by 2025, when cars are mandated to get 60 mpg, we will use LESS gasoline each day and be able to use one gallon of gasoline more efficiently. If by that time, we have wind farms that put out about 10% of electricity we need, we will have much less of a need to import gasoline from Mexico or Canada, our two largest suppliers.
..wait, so because there aren’t ENOUGH wind farms and they therefore don’t produce more than the 1.5% of our energy needs…..all of a sudden they aren’t viable? – thomas
I never said they weren’t viable. I said that wind farms are not promising as a mass produceable energy.
cluster,
Wind farms are popping up all over in my area. We have at least 3 major ones within 20 miles of Casper. There are also ones outside of Cheyenne, Rock Springs, and Medicine Bow. I recently spotted others in Western Nebraska and Northern Colorado while on a trip. We are also opening a couple of major natural gas fields close by.
“We have more natural gas than Saudi has oil and yet, all people want to do is drill for oil. kind of backwards isn’t it?”
As usual, tommy-boy gets it wrong.
I am soooooo glad we don’t have to drill for natural gas. I can go to the local hardware store and get a new tank already filled!!! Uh, tommy-boy, you do know that (since you claim you are in the “business”) along with oil there is more than likely natural gas in the same pocket??
You are away that drilling is “drilling” no matter if it is oil or natural gas???

PATHETIC!!!!!
Another alarmist theory on behalf of liberals is global warming, as evidenced by Gore and thomas. Again, we can not afford to let children. ie: liberals, govern this nation. They are not mature enough, not responsible enough, and are distracted by too many non-issues to be effective.

Don’t give me this faux pity for the lower class when every policy position you hold is against the poor. – thomas
Isn’t it conservatives that want to drill for domestic oil in order to bring down fuel costs? Isn’t it conservatives that want to kill the Cap & Trade bill that will result in higher energy prices?
Barack Obama, 2008: “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”
nice job at selective quotation.
you’re quite good at that aren’t you? your mother must be proud.
Oh I am sorry thomas, here’s the entire quote for the learning impaired:
Barack Obama, 2008 – The problem is can you get the American people to say this is really important and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake, and climate change is a great example.
When I was asked earlier about the issue of coal…under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I’m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas…you name it…whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations.
That will cost money…they will pass that money on to the consumers. You can already see what the arguments are going to be during the general election. People will say Obama and Al Gore …these folks…they’re going to destroy the economy.
This is going to cost us 8 trillion dollars or whatever their number is. If you can’t persuade the American people that, yes, there is going to be some increase on electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage and changing light bulbs and more efficient appliances, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy that the economy will benefit.
Helllloooooooooooo

Nutter Sets 9 PM Weekend Curfew For Minors In Center City, University City
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Mayor Michael Nutter today announced a tighter weekend curfew in the Center City and University City regions of the city, as he continues grappling with the threat of “flash mobs” in Philadelphia.
Nutter today described those engaging in flash mob rampages
Perhaps the administration thinks it can create anger at S&P, and it can get flash mobs, or its allied union goons (once they are done intimidating people in Wisconsin) to come to New York State and threaten S&P executives in their homes.
These S&P rating analysts are like Tea Party leaders in the “minds” of the left — they are terrorists, financial jihadists, threatening the reelection of the president, and the progressive dream to remake America into a European social welfare state, at exactly the time the European nations are coming to realize they have over-promised, and can no longer afford that vision.
