The Big Government Failure – California Edition

From Bloomberg:

California faces “drastic” cuts to universities, schools and social programs if revenue continues to trail budget forecasts, the state controller said after July collections fell short by about 10 percent.

A series of “triggers” written into the most-populous state’s $86 billion general-fund budget would cut spending on universities, home care for seniors and the disabled, libraries and other programs if revenue falls $1 billion short of plan. A $2 billion gap would mean a seven-day cut in the school year and an end to busing subsidies…

The reason I bring this up is to point out that Big Government always gets it wrong.  When faced with having to cut spending or pretending that enough money will come in, Big Government will invariably opt for pretending…or, lying, if you want to be strictly accurate.  We here in Nevada have the same problem – though on a much smaller scale – where our budget was “balanced” because we’re pretending that we’ll have a big increase in revenues (anyone driving around Las Vegas can see that we’ll be lucky if revenues don’t crash through the floor…things are just lousy out here, and Las Vegas accounts for the majority of Nevada’s revenues).  We also have this problem – on a much larger scale – nationally, where our recent budget deal was predicated upon projections of revenue which are laughably optimistic (remember, official projections are based upon official data which indicates we are officially in economic recovery mode).  This means that, just like California, we can expect revenues to fall short of what we predict, and thus we’ll have a larger deficit than expected.

The dishonesty of Big Government is endemic – there is nothing it can do but lie because the basic concept is false.  You can’t make the majority – or even a large minority – of people happy, free, safe and prosperous if you are trying to do it by government action.  You can certainly enrich a Ruling Class of politicians and their crony-capitalists, but you can’t do anything worthwhile for most of the people.

This is because no government, no matter how well disposed, can ever figure out what people need, nor what people want.  Government can play a role in assisting people who have determined, on the local level, what they need but they can’t command results from on high.  There just isn’t – and never can be – sufficient knowledge for such results.  The lies we see in the budgeting process are just one part of it…you can also see it every time some Big Government booster speaks of a grand plan.  Remember, we have a Department of Education because our education was bad in the 70’s and the Department was supposed to figure out what education needed and wanted and fix everything up.  How has that worked out?   Just apply that same standard to all Big Government activities and you’ll get the same result.

Dismantling the beast of Big Government is a necessity – it is the only way we can restore freedom and prosperity in our nation.  And the sooner we get at it, the better.

yet…they keep paying unions 3-4 times what non-union salaries are…they send the EPA to harrass and intimidate private business for things as trivial as drips of oil less that 1/4 oz on concrete contaminating the environment….and instead of regulate illegal immigration…they encourage it…and spend over 10 bn per year on non citizens who are not here because they fled violence or wars (yes, they came here because California spends over 10 Bn on them and that is a “stimulus” beyond measure)…

and they ignore the elderly…the struggling families and the exodus of citizens from the state fleeing the burdens that california puts on them to pay for this insanity

we are witnessing the demise of the republic.
this insanity will not support it’s self for long.

      You’re making stuff up.

According to a January 2011 Bureau of Labor Statistics report:

$917 = Median weekly earnings in 2010 of union members.

$717 = Median weekly earnings in 2010 of non-union workers.

Lying is your style, however. You can’t help it. Your hatred has been fomented to irrational heights, facts be damned. So sorry.

Ps real estate is really cheap in this leftist utopia.

Neo you are right. I forgot to think about detroit. I hear it is near dearbornistan. am sure they have a machmoudslist there. Perhaps they also need an official beard measurer?

Detroit does remind me of beiruit. Although it was much harder to get a good working order ak-47 in beiruit than in detroit.

There is always the grand choice of The Democratic Republic of Chicago. Another choice is the City of Brotherly Love and Flash Mobs, Philidelphia. (for every 4 beatdowns you get from a flash mob the 5th one is free)

Maybe instead of spending one billion dollars on a stadium with no team. LA sould spend 100 billion dollars. Would not that fix everything?

        GMB,,
Actually i think that’s “to the right of Los Angeles.”

The best solution I’ve heard is a NorCal/SoCal split; draw a line from Lake Tahoe to Long Beach, everything EAST of the line becomes the People’s Republic of Kalifornia, and everything WEST of the Line becomes The Free State of California.

They get San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento; we get San Diego, the Central Valley, the desert and the mountains. They get wine (whine) country, and we get the agricultural belt. They get the delta Smelt we get the Colorado River. They get Beverly Hills we get working class Riverside and San Bernardino, we get San Diego Harbor, Miramar, Pendleton, Twentynine Palms, Edwards AFB, March Field, the Left Side can turn their military bases into community gardens.

      • Count d'Haricots August 10, 2011 / 12:55 pm

DAMMIT! Can’t I tell EAST from WEST?
        Should read:

everything WEST of the line becomes the People’s Republic of Kalifornia, and everything EAST of the Line becomes The Free State of California.

        Carry on.

      • neocon1 August 10, 2011 / 2:16 pm

        Carry on.

We forgive you Count. 🙂 Good luck with seperating yourselves from the libbies. They will never let you go. Think those hollwierdo’s will shoulder the easts whole tax burden. They are pure evil capatalists with thier own monet. OPM not so much.

      • Green Mountain Boy August 10, 2011 / 3:13 pm

See I went and did it. West is always associated with the good guys. East is always associated with the bad guys. We will learn East California-Good Guys. West Kalifornia-Bad Guys 🙂

Please, righties, move out of my beloved state. You hate it here, so why stay? Take all your job-creating wealth and move to Winnemucca or El Paso or better yet, ANY OF THE MOSTLY RIGHT-WING COUNTIES ON THIS LIST. California is not on it, so there’s no risk of you inadvertently coming here.

    Are you STILL here?

  5. Green Mountain Boy August 11, 2011 / 2:17 am

lets just take one example on bozo’s list. Buffalo County South Dakota. Hmmm lets see, it is the poorest county in the country. Another fact. As of the 2000 census the population is 81.59% native indians. The rest is mixed. Now 81.59% of the population belong to one racial group. This group is not know for thier support for conservatives. In fact in 2008 73% of this counties vote went to bams. So yes go move to this county. They could use the help. The donkrats have destroyed it and want the taxpayers to fix it.

  6. Green Mountain Boy August 11, 2011 / 2:25 am

Lets take another example on bozo’s list. We will go with number 2. Shannon county again in south dakota. Well guess what bams won 89% of that counties vote. Go figure huh.

Lets take number 3 on the list. Starr County, Texas. Yuppers you guessed it another basket case that went for bams. He only got 84% of the vote there.

Anyone else beginnig to see a pattern here?

  7. Green Mountain Boy August 11, 2011 / 2:36 am

Next up, Ziebach County, again in South Dakota. You are correct! Another donk county with this one bams only gets 62% of its vote.

Number 5. is again in South Dakota. Todd County is another cesspool of donk rats. 78% for bams in 2008.

Number 6 is Sioux County in North Dakota. 83% for bams in the last election.

This might tell you something bozo.

All these counties so far are ran by the donks. Why are they in such a mess with the donks in charge?

  8. Green Mountain Boy August 11, 2011 / 5:01 am

So far only one of the top 13 poorest counties is red. Hudspeth County Texas narely went to darth rino in 08. 458 votes to 430.

Next red county is clay county kentucky. darth rino won big there. 78% to 21%
Next is Mccreay County also in Kentucky. Read this. it might just explain why it is so poor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCreary_County,_Kentucky
next red county is Jackson County South Dakota. seems that 57% of this counties land has an indian reservation on it. Expalin anything there?
Next checking in at number 25 is Bennet County South Dakota. Barely went for darth rino in 08 51% to 46%

  9. Green Mountain Boy August 11, 2011 / 5:03 am

21 of the top 25 poorest counties are pure donkrat hells. Maybe bozo might want to move to one of them to increase it’s taxbase?

    • Green Mountain Boy August 11, 2011 / 5:19 am

26-30 4 of 5 are donkrat bastions. only San Juan County Utah is red. Darth won that county by 52% to 47% wich is surprising since about 57% of the county is native indian.

Please go live in one of these poor blue counties. They need your tax dollars.
