The New Yorker Upset That Perry Has Testicles

Sorry for the crudity, but I really can’t describe this any other way – from The New Yorker via Ann Althouse:

…Perry is the first graduate of Texas A & M to govern Texas. When he was a freshman, in 1968, the student body looked much like him: white, male, determinedly rural. Aggie jokes of the country-bumpkin variety are still standard fare in Texas. (“How many Aggies does it take to screw in a light bulb? One, but he gets three hours of credit.”) At A & M, Perry ran the winning campaign of his friend John Sharp for student-body president. In response, Sharp got his friend elected one of the campus’s five “yell leaders”—male cheerleaders. Perry considered being a yeller the higher office. A typical yell is: “Squads left! Squads right! / Farmers, farmers, we’re all right! / Load, ready, aim, fire, BOOM!” During tense moments in a football game, yellers grab their balls and shout, “Squeeze, Aggies!”…

As one comment noted over at Instapundit put it, the worry here for liberals is that Perry apparently has a pair to squeeze.

If you read the whole article, it is just a crude attempt to paint Governor Perry as some sort of overly masculine cowboy-barbarian…not at all like sweet, gentle, Ivy League-educated George Bush.  To be sure, “Squeeze, Aggies!” is bizarre – but, then again, its Texas.  The bottom line is that they tend to shoot at the people who need to be shot and back up those who deserve help; you really have to be some post-modernist metrosexual to get your nighty in a knot over Texas…so, naturally, liberals are well knotted.

They are deathly afraid of Rick Perry….perhaps even more fearful than they have ever been about Sarah Palin.  The thing about Perry (and Palin and Bachmann and Cain) is that they are just regular folks from the heartland who live and believe like regular Americans.  If they think about the Ruling Class, at all, it is with a mixture of bemusement and contempt.  People like Perry really will go to DC to change things…and not care a whit whether or not the Ruling Class is offended by it.

And it will be one heck of a lot of fun to watch…

Rick Perry, President of the United States of America and leader of the free world. Yeah!!!…another airhead, gun-toting Texas cowboy with his finger on the button. Yep, hot diggity dog, that’s just what we all need and wish for. By all means, let’s forego intelligent leadership, shall we, and embrace blowhard bluster, ignorance and devisive rhetoric.

Yes, I’m sure there is a certain segment of the American population that think Mr. Perry is the perfect fellow to sit in the Oval Office, GMB, but I doubt that the majority of voters (Right & Left) hold that same opinion.

the 27 billion dollar shortfall in the budget was a great thing. having one of the worst education systems in the country is wonderful. having the largest portion of people uninsured is just great! having the highest percentage of low paying jobs is the best! having unemployment go UP is absolutely amazing!

At any rate…I note, with great care, that Rick Perry was re-elected last year with 55% of the vote after he won with only a plurality of 39% in 2006…the people of Texas must think he’s doing a good job.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a conservative advocacy group that favors tighter immigration laws, argues that the answer is clear: illegal aliens cost U.S. taxpayers more than $100 billion each year.

Jack Martin, director of special projects for FAIR, says the group is still working on its estimate, but believes undocumented workers leave taxpayers with a fat bill, considering that the government spends money on the workers, and they almost never pay income taxes.

“The study of the fiscal effects of illegal immigration clearly demonstrates that it is a burden on the American taxpayer,” says Martin. More forceful implementation of immigration laws could save each U.S. household “in the neighborhood of a couple of thousand dollars a year.”

“They are deathly afraid of Rick Perry….perhaps even more fearful than they have ever been about Sarah Palin.” statement by Noonan

Mark, do you have any evidence to back up this statement? Deathly afraid? Really??? Please provide some proof that this is true. I have yet to hear anyone of the left indicate any fear of either Perry or Palin. Do you live in such a tiny little world that you have no idea what is going on in America? I predict that if the Republicans continue with their current message the voters will once again put them out of office. How do you feel about the non-townhall meetings this summer OR in the alternative, you have to pay to see your representative? Do that cause you pause? If not, I think it should.

The average American is not far right like the group of posters here that back you up on every nonsensical essay you write bashing Obama and supporting every far right candidate. The average American is pretty much in the middle, believing that we need to cut spending, but that everything needs to be put on the table. The average American is not comfortable with the far right nor the far left. Both of these groups are outside the norm of their philosophical ideals. The GOP will have a lot of problems if either Perry or Palin end up with the nomination for president. I just do not see it happening. As much as I dislike Karl Rove he is pretty right on with what he is telling the Republicans. Hopefully no one will take his advice.
