Barak Obama – The man and the Myth

We have seen at least two versions (the first two could be one in the same) of Barak Obama (aka the obAMATEUR).

1) Barak Obama the Senator.

2) Barak Obama the Candidate.

3) Barak Obama the President.

We saw a man critical of Iraq and GITMO who promised to close GITMO, try terrorists in US courts, and bring the troops home from Iraq ASAP.  The drones swallowed it all.  Then the man became pResident…..

… and everything changed.

Victor Davis Hanson sums it up nicely.

He wants to count himself among Johnson?????

      Andrew…. definitely.

President Obama now has a rising approval rating [currently 49%] as do the Democrats [55%] just over eleven months before the 2012 election.

“President Barack Obama’s approval rating appears to be fueled by dramatic gains among middle-income Americans,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “The data suggest that the debate over the payroll tax is helping Obama’s efforts to portray himself as the defender of the middle class.”

There aren’t enough haters of liberalism and lovers of the 1% to remove him from office.

    • Cluster December 20, 2011 / 5:39 pm

      Major,

Your assumption is that other people, like yourself, will vote for Obama strictly on him being likeable. Fortunately for the country, most voters are a little more discerning than you and other liberals, and it will take actual substance to convince those voters.

And extending a small payroll tax cut, even for a year, is hardly “defending” the middle class. Unless you think that throwing a few scraps to people is “helping them out”. A REAL defender of the middle class would have used the justice system to investigate, indict and prosecute those folks that had their greedy hands all over the housing crisis. A real defender of the middle class wouldn’t throw away $500 million on a defunct green energy business that had crony capitalism written all over it. A real defender of middle class would put forth serious entitlement reforms and tax code reforms, and a real defender of the middle class would actually engage Congress rather than “leading from behind”.

Obama can be called a lot of things, but a leader and a defender of the middle class would not be two of them.

That is not the point at all. This is not about likeability it is about what the Middle Class in America needs. The Middle Class needs liberalism which, simply put, means Freedom to direct their lives as they see fit without the restriants of the opinions of others whose lives are not really affected by their decisions. To be Free higher taxes are not a burden on the rich but they are on the Middle Class. All the social issues are mere fluff compared to the real struggles of economy that America faces. If you do not want to be around gays or blacks or get an abortion do not. This is your choice your Freedom. The fact that others do is theirs.

        MP,

“The Middle Class needs liberalism which, simply put, means Freedom to direct their lives as they see fit without the restriants of the opinions of others whose lives are not really affected by their decisions.”

WTF? I have no idea where you dredge this kind of misinformation from but I can understand why you are in pain. Until you have a glimmer of reality shine between them ears–I would refrain from making an idiot of oneself. If you actually believe this–seek help.

        Unadulterated BS

America does NOT need, socialism, communism, homosexuality, wealth re distribution, or unfair graduated taxes or 53% paying LESS than 3% of all taxes collected.

Freedom is NOT murdering your child in the womb, it is about making choices and living with them.
Freedom is about opportunity, and YOU taking advantage of them
not being shoved to the front of the line because of some perceived “unfairness”

      • Amazona December 22, 2011 / 10:52 am

….liberalism……….. means Freedom to direct their lives as they see fit without the restriants (sic) of the opinions of others…

So if we merely define “regulation” as being totally unrelated to “the opinions of others” we can almost shoehorn “freedom” and “liberty” and “Liberalism” into the same sentence.

        Almost.

But if we acknowledge that “regulation” is nothing BUT “the opinions of others” writ large and then legislated and imposed, we kind of blow that silly claim out of the water. ‘Cause Leftie LOOOVE regulation of what, in their OPINIONS, ought to be restrained or banned, from incandescent light bulbs to hydraulic fracturing to open practice of religion.

Major Pain goes on to show where she has gone off the tracks, in this odd little rant: “If you do not want to be around gays or blacks or get an abortion do not. This is your choice your Freedom. The fact that others do is theirs.”

Why doesn’t she go on to say “If you do not want to drive after drinking or take your neighbor’s property or bump off the competition for that promotion at work, do not. This is your choice your Freedom. The fact that others do is theirs.”

And I love the insertion of the beloved Leftist claim that conservatives “hate” blacks and gays. Yeah, Lefties, we just don’t “want to be around” them. You keep telling yourselves that. But that’s what the Pains do—they totally distort an issue, then reduce it to a level of simple-mindedness that is stunning in its utter stupidity but does allow them to posture as morally superior, and then spew it out as if it had the slightest basis in fact or reality.

Was not Iraq a war of choice? Historians and pundits alike will debate that for centuries. In any event the US is done with that folly and soon enough they will be done with GITMO, Afghanistan and wars fought for reasons that could not be explained to the American people.

    • Cluster December 20, 2011 / 5:42 pm

Obama has actually already explained that. He kept Gitmo open and explained that. He employed a surge into Afghanistan and explained that. He has used drones to kill American civilians and explained that. He strengthened the Patriot Act and explained that. He invaded a sovereign country to assassinate OBL and explained that, and bombed Libya and explained that.

What did you need more clarification on?

We opine that the name calling and other nonsense is counterproductive. America has too many problems that must be solved and soon to devolve into shouting matches about social issues or partisanship when these things do not matter.

  3. dbschmidt December 20, 2011 / 6:54 pm

With President Obama being more the myth than the man I am sure the ChiTown has already started the scorched earth campaign to leave President Obama as the last weasel standing. As pointed out at the beginning of the article–McCain in 2008 was the first to feel this insidious form of censorship but the new SOPA legislation will make it easier to censor what should be “fair use.”

When you have nothing but failure to run on–the ChiTown MO is to remove all other contenders. This should concern anyone interesting in getting all points of view and not just those deemed acceptable to the “Dear Leader.”

All Candidates Should Be Concerned About SOPA

Other notable Wars of Choice. The Revolutionary War. Those damn Rebels didn’t need to start firing at Lexington in 1775. No matter who fired the first shot it was still a war of choice for the rebels.

The American Civil War. The North had absolutely no need to march off Manassas. Lincoln made the choice to start the war.

The Spanish American War. The USS Maine blew up in Cuba. So what? Thats an excuse to start a war with another nation.

World War I. I do believe we declared war on the Central Powers. If U.S. flagged ships had stopped carrying prohibited war material to Allied Powers ports those pesky german uboats would not have been sinking them.

    • tiredoflibbs December 20, 2011 / 7:38 pm

Yes and we did not have to declare war on Germany in WWII. We should have just concentrated on Japan, since they were the ones who attacked us to begin with. It does not matter what relationship Germany had with Japan.

      • neocon1 December 20, 2011 / 7:43 pm

yeah and Kosovo and Somalia including aspirin factories to protect those wonderful muslims.

      • Green Mountain Boy December 20, 2011 / 8:06 pm

Tired have to disagree with you a bit here. Germany did declare war on the U.S. first. We had another war wheather or not we wanted it.

Police Action of choice. Korea. There was absolutely no need to get involved there. The abject misery and squalor, lack of food, medical care, housing, etc on south side of the dmz proves that, Damn those SoKo for invading the north.

Oh wait i got that backwards.

How is an opinion a restraint? I would argue that liberalism is the antithesis of what you asserted. From political correctness, to attacks on religion, to criticizing and attacking anyone who espouses a different ideology, liberalism is hardly the model of freedom

      Obama’s Freeloader Economy

If you want to understand the deep political philosophy underneath the Obama administration’s random-walk economic policy, it is this: freeloading.

When you really try to cudgel your brain in a good-faith effort to understand liberals, and try to understand the talk about “inequality” and “exploitation,” that’s the answer. Springtime for freeloaders. Summer, autumn, winter, all year round for freeloaders. It’s the new thing for getting ahead in the predator class.

What, after all, is the NLRB-union gang tackle on Boeing — the idea that opening a union-free plant in South Carolina is an unfair labor practice? How come, all of a sudden after Boeing agrees to build the Boeing 737-MAX in union-rich Renton, Washington, everything is suddenly copacetic? It’s pretty obvious. Keep those union jobs in Washington State or else.

What about the raid on Gibson Guitar? What about the half-billion-dollar sinkhole called Solyndra? What about the forests of wind turbines, each a cozy subsidy nest for some well-fledged crony capitalist? Freeloaders all, and they all vote for Democrats.

      aint “freedom” grand??

In the meantime, reaction from Washington to Kim Jong-il’s death is muted.

Thus, while the President plays golf and body surfs in Hawaii, the White House will “closely monitor” the abysmal American economy, the unemployment forecast, and the situation surrounding the death of the North Korean socialist-Marxist, and do so

while Barack Obama indulges in fresh lobster at a beachfront estate in Kailua Oahu.
