I was at an impasse in Book VIII – mostly how to deal with a character who, it turns out, does have to die in order to build a really good story line for another character – the other day and so I sat myself in front of the idiot box to drop thinking for a bit (it does help; a clear mind can suddenly solve a riddle that has bothered you all day) and just absorb passively. As I clicked through the available product – mostly dreck, it goes without saying – I came across an interesting documentary. Produced by the BBC in 2015, it is called 1945: The Savage Peace.
The story it tells is what happened to the Germans of eastern Europe after WWII. Spoiler: it was bad. Like really, really bad. For a lot of people it will come as a revelation because it is something not covered in depth in Western histories of WWII and its aftermath. To nutshell it, after WWII the German territories of East Prussia, Pomerania and Silesia were transferred to other nations – most to Poland with a slice of East Prussia going to the Soviet Union (and still part of Russia today – you can see it on the map as a small exclave between Lithuania and Poland). The German population of these territories was forced out – ethnically cleansed as we would put it today. Additionally, the German population of the Sudetenland in today’s Czech Republic as well as long-established German communities in Hungary and Romania were also sent off to Germany. It was many millions of people. Nobody knows exactly how many because in the chaos of the time nobody bothered to count how many were left in these Soviet-occupied areas of post-WWII Europe (quite a large number of them had, of course, fled ahead of the Soviet advance at the end of the war).
And it wasn’t done gently; the people who exiled the Germans were Poles, Czechs and others who had just spent years under very brutal Nazi German occupation and once they got on top of the Germans they very cruelly extracted their pound of flesh. Not only did these Germans lose their land, they lost pretty much everything but the clothes on their backs and while in transit to Germany they were subjected to beatings, rapes and murders. The documentary interviews several Germans who endured it – all very old by 2015 and between 10 and 15 years old or so when it happened. So, it is designed to evoke sympathy for the Germans and while the documentary does make passing reference to the immediately prior Nazi brutality, the whole thing is pitched to make out that the Germans were mere victims. And, to be sure, the people they interviewed – all kids at the time – were specifically innocent. They couldn’t interview their parents because by 2015 all those who were adults in 1945 were dead. But by doing this, it really wrecked the context. While little Helga was innocent her mom and dad were probably participants – or approved of – the equally brutal relocation of Poles in 1939-40. And like all German adults, they knew about the Holocaust and did nothing about it. And like the Russians who threw themselves upon the German population at the end of the war, the Poles and Czech almost to a man and woman had someone close murdered or otherwise brutalized by the Germans during the war. Two wrongs do not make a right…but you can’t lord it over people and treat them like despised slaves for 5 years and not expect some payback. That Helga had to watch in terror as her family was brutally exiled is sad…but Helga’s family should have considered that possibility while they were going Sieg Heil for all those years (East Prussia, for instance, voted overwhelmingly Nazi in the last free election).
I bring this up because this documentary works out to a re-write of history and coming off very badly in it are the Poles. Jews and Czechs also not looking all too kind. It is a white-wash of Nazi history and an attempt to slander people who are clearly out of favor in the European Establishment; the Poles, especially, not knuckling under to EU dictates about Woke policies and immigration. Germans, of course, are the pillar of the EU Establishment…so I guess they’ve decided to kinda gloss over that 1939-45 unpleasantness. I do perceive that we’re getting a lot more of this sort of thing…not just the “black people did everything wonderful” drivel, but attempts to reassign within European/Western history who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. The bad guys are, of course, you; this started actually back in the 1980’s when people accused Ike of being a war criminal because some number of German POWs died in American captivity post-WWII. Some did; but people are always dying. An in-depth study showed that the German POW death rate was in line with everyone else in the area…all higher than normal but it was the immediate aftermath of WWII with Germany an entire wreck. But that didn’t stop the “bad Ike” stories…and in spite of being debunked, the myth persists to this day. The past is being edited just as in 1984 in order to control the present and future.

I want to revisit what Tim said the other day because he is right in that this is a spiritual battle and words alone will not prevail. But Amazona’s response was correct as well in that there are some “unexamined Democrats” out there that just reflexively vote Democrat and this would be a good time to challenge those allegiance’s and convert them. I am in full support of Tim’s view, but am still hoping Amazona’s strategy of cooler heads prevail and we can win this thing without the violence. Time will tell but we are on the same page … all options remain on the table because this is a fight we have to win for our children and grandchildren.
If every Christian who takes seriously the challenge to be an open disciple of the Gospel would apply the same attitude to converting open-minded Democrats to the tenets of Conservatism , there would be no amount of cheating that could result in a Progressive win.

We’ve talked about and read enough articles to understand the covid jab is a sham deception at best and that the long term effects will likely reveal even more damaging outcomes than most realized. It somewhat amazes me just how extensive and widespread the lies are for both the initial and continued approval for this, from the government, from the complicit media and from the medical community. The VDH comments on Tucker’s show are chilling, and totally on target. One of the things he noted is that Trump is on trial for something that is not a crime. Oh, they call it “fraud” yet no one was defrauded. They claim he tricked the banks, but the banks aren’t suing him for any damages. Why should they? More to the point, how COULD they? They looked at his valuations, they no doubt checked them out with their own appraisal departments, they made business decisions, they loaned money, the money was repaid with interest, they made money on the transactions, and everyone was happy.
The prosecutors are claiming $250 million in “damages”. Who got hurt? Deutsche Bank’s appraisal department decided Trump’s properties were overvalued by $2 billion, and still loaned him the money. The claim is that “Trump’s financial statements convinced banks to take on hidden risk “to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.” OK, I understand that even corrupt NY politicians don’t move in the same financial circles as Trump and the banks he works with, but even so, to believe that these huge international banks were somehow hornswoggled into taking on “hidden risk” because somehow Trump CONVINCED them to is just plain insane. If they’re just ticked off that big money people get better rates on loans than they do, well, they run the state. Make some laws. And BTW, when there is a question about valuation, or anything else that just doesn’t sound quite right, the rates go UP, not down.
Duh.
At this point I almost hope they succeed in keeping Trump off the ballot, because if we need a precipitating event to spark a political war this would be it. The Left would soon learn that DeSantis is ten times the crafty warrior than Trump is because he doesn’t telegraph his moves, he just goes for the jugular and he knows how to get the job done. And in the meantime the entire world would have had a front row seat at a brilliant exhibition of what Leftist power looks like.
Gaetz Succeeds in Booting McCarthy from Speakership
Well this is interesting. Not only is it unprecedented but it leads to all kinds of questions. For one, I think it’s becoming pretty clear RINO’s can’t continue chumming up with demoncrats and expect to hold any semblance of power. The power of the political right can only be achieved with a unity that at least strives to serve the people. McCarthy obtained the speakership position by bargaining with a few holdouts who successfully bartered for the ability to oust him by a single vote if he didn’t adhere to certain requirements. That Bidum has been able to recklessly spend huge amounts of cash on things that aren’t crucial to the safety and freedom of the citizens of the US, is certainly among things to be concerned about, especially when in negotiations from a position of power you fail to obtain key values. The right side political structure will continue to fail unless they force the left into enough concessions that lead to real positive change.

I honestly don’t know what to make of Kevin McCarthy being vacated. I’ve heard arguments from both sides and I agree with all of them, but one thing I do know is … Matt Gaetz is right. Congress does need to operate differently for positive change to happen. CR’s need to go away, single item funding bills need to be the norm, and budgets need to be adhered to. Was this the best way to handle it? Not sure, but it needed to be handled. McCarthy was after all an establishment guy and he will defer to the establishment and that fact alone means he needed to go. I heard one critique of McCarthy which was spot on … where are the Jan 6 video tapes?? Why hasn’t Hunter and Jim Biden been deposed? And why did you take a 6 week vacation and then return only to offer up a CR and declare an emergency to keep the government open. All Americans are tired of this crap. I’m surprised by some of the reactions too, particularly Newt Gingrich. 1994 was the last time single item spending bills were brought to the floor and voted on. The government has run on CR’s ever since because no one wants to put together a budget and live by it. Matt Gaetz exposed that and Newt objects??? In order to change DC, you need to change the procedures and the people.
That’s not what Newt is objecting to and you know it. I can read what he says. It’s not hard.

“for the people”? That’s an opinion that anyone who did not side with the Dems and 8 Republicans was not “for the people”. I strongly disagree. McCarthy had an impossible job, and in the vein of “the perfect is the enemy of the good” the failure to be perfect got rid of the good.
Maybe we needed a new Speaker, maybe we didn’t. That will have to be decided. But mounting an in-house coup dependent on the collusion of the Dem side of the House, at this particular time, when McCarthy pushed for an inquiry into Biden corruption among other things on the table in House, seems reckless and a lot like grandstanding. Look at everything now on hold while we sort out the Gaetz mess and while he and his 8 buddies try to milk their action for donation dollars.

I have been scolded for asking “Then what?” when people have advocated for immediate and dramatic action, and now I am seeing a lot of others asking the same question of Goetz, who seems to have launched himself (and the House) off a cliff with no parachute and no apparent landing spot.
We’ll see. He might have a plan. It might even be a good one. But so far he seems to be in the “Just do it and we’ll deal with that later” camp. Hoping it’s not backing a freshman for the job. Branding anyone who does not agree with you as dishonest seems like an inherently dishonest position to take. Jim Jordan knows infinitely more about the ins and outs of House politics and decisions than any of us out here depending on what we are told and he has an impeccable record of fearlessly going after the bad guys. Kicking someone like that to the curb for one vote you don’t even understand seems reckless and very dependent on Identity Politics.
Trump did OK as Commander in Chief. But I wouldn’t mind having an actual veteran in that position, who has the experience of making life and death decisions (“shot caller”) in the battlefield for his SEAL team and who then operated efficiently as a JAG officer in other areas as well.
The only reason why Congress isn’t working is because they were told to go home. And THAT IS what is wrong with DC. These guys take more vacations then my cats. Everyone knew Sept 30 was coming and yet they still take an August recess then come back with hair on fire. I’m not sure what “then what” is, but it’s better than the status quo. Anything is.
