I think that quite a few Americans don’t realize how large the United States is. I’ve seen MSMers and some regular folks on X wondering where we will get lumber if we place a tariff on Canadian lumber? I get that we Americans are an insular folk but, my goodness, do people in the cities ever get out into the country? I did look it up and from what I can tell, in our national forests there are a trillion square feet of lumber. This doesn’t count all possible lumber sources in the USA. We don’t lack wood, people. Like not even a little bit. Maybe its all the decades of Environmentalist lies? People think we’re down to our last tree or something? There is more forested land in the USA than when Columbus arrived in the Americas. We’ve got lumber coming out of our ears…we just don’t harvest it. Until now: Team Trump is reviving logging.
Trump is pausing the tariffs on everyone but China – where he’s jacking them up even higher. This is good. The official word is that with everyone but China coming to the table, its time to make nice (except to China)…the quite rumor is that it is this plus some GOPers in the Senate were wetting their panties over the stock market. This is probably true. I’m hoping that Trump is trying to completely decouple us from China…but if we must have relations with them, then I want some hard-nosed deals. Like this:
China is still building coal-fired power plants like there’s no tomorrow. China doesn’t have much coal in their ground and what they do have is about the worst in the world…doesn’t burn very hot and it pollutes horribly. Meanwhile, we’ve got some of the largest coal reserves in the world and our coal is among the best: burns nice and hot and very clean even before you put devices on the chimneys to cut down on pollution even more. If I were in charge, any trade deal I made with China would include China exclusively using our coal. I don’t want to screw them over – I’d sell it to them at the market rate, but only our coal…ten year deal. Ten percent of the estimated price up front. The Chinese are using 5 billion metric tons per year; $102 per ton times 5 billion is $510 billion per year.
This is the kind of deals we have to make with predatory powers like China. If we are to buy from them, they must also buy from us. I’m sure China imports lumber. We know they import oil and natural gas. Feeding China’s population requires massive imports. All from us until the value we buy from them is met…and if it can’t be met by Chinese purchases of our goods, then we cut back on imports from China until the exports/imports come into rough balance. No more free ride – and do keep in mind that China needs that free ride. It is how the PRC sustains itself; taking in US dollars and using that money to essentially bribe sufficient amounts of China’s population to remain in control. If they have fair trade with us that will be disastrous for the PRC’s future – but that is their problem, not ours.
I saw a report that in the UK more British people attend Catholic Mass each Sunday than any other Christian service…that’s the good news. The bad news is that from what I can tell, probably not a tenth of Britain’s population is actually Christian. That sort of thing is doom for Britain – with the Muslim population rapidly rising and Muslims not being shy about asserting dominance once they reach that 20 percent or so of the population. What will happen is unknown – I’m doubtful of good outcome…but no matter how you slice it, the Britain which emerged from the Reformation is dead and it will not come back…the UK will become Catholic/Evangelical (which is also rising fast in the UK) or Muslim…the Church of England pretend-Christianity is gone and with it will soon go its trappings…the Monarchy, the nobility…the whole system. This, by the way, was fated to happen the moment Henry VIII broke with Rome…he thought he could keep Catholicism without the Pope (he was actually very deeply Catholic in his core dogmas)…he was wrong. I mean, it had a good run and the world will always have a place in its heart for people like the Duke of Wellington and Churchill…but the system that made them has died.
Speaking of Brits the world owes a debt to – and this is entirely off any topic – I was thinking not too long ago about Montgomery. We Americans have inherited Patton’s disdain for the man – his preening self confidence irritates and he’s rated as the poorer commander to Patton. But I happened to notice that in 1940 when the British were trying to get their army to Dunkirk to evacuate, Monty (then a major general) kept his Third Division intact during a fighting retreat – and that division was the only one to arrive back in Britain ready to fight. Anyone with knowledge of military affairs will tell you that any fool can attack…the real genius of command is shown when you have to retreat. How did Monty do this while everything was disintegrating around him? Simple: he saw it coming and vigorously trained his division in both attack and retreat so that everyone knew their job and all he had to do when the guns went off was calmly give the orders. That’s first rate generalship, guys. And it casts in my mind new light about how magnificent El Alamein really was and, furthermore, shows that Monty really screwed the Germans hard in Normandy – pinning them to useless positions around Caen while Patton got all the glory breaking through weak German defenses to the west.
And, once again: we all need to think carefully about what we think we know. Maybe it is true – but maybe its just a story we’ve been told?

Over on X there is this upper class British lady complaining about how frightening it is to travel through London…she describes, in detail, how every time she goes through town there are a host of immigrant men who follow her, leer at her and mutter comments about her among themselves. She’s afraid to be there and wants her capital back…but, it ain’t happening. Enoch Powell warned in reasoned detail exactly what would happen with mass immigration to Britain and he’s been called a racist ever since…at this point, Labour is totally dependent upon immigrant votes to get into office and the all the major opposition parties in Parliament pander to those same immigrants as their path into Whitehall. The British Ruling Class has calculated that if some British girls have to be raped its a small price to pay for political power. Only revolution can change the equation…and it doesn’t look like British men can even conceptualize defending themselves or their women.

Yep – and when you think about it, the Race Relations Act of 1968 in Britain was passed about 6 months after MLK was murdered…it was probably one of the earliest examples of Virtue Signalling…a way for the British Ruling Class to say, “hey, we’re not like those racist Yanks!”. The Act, itself, was totally unnecessary as it was already illegal in Britain to discriminate based on race…but the newer Act, as Powell warned, would turn native Britons into foreigners in their own land, which is what has happened. Here’s an interesting thing about the 1968 Act – it was passed out of Parliament on a vote of 182-44, meaning that more than half the 630 Members didn’t even vote on it…probably because they knew they couldn’t defend it at election time but they were too cowardly to actually stand up and stop it. And so it has gone in the West for decades now…slow death by Leftwing activism met by Right indifference.

I also think that a lot of Dem women are leaving the party because Dem men are just so….unmanly. It’s not just the dollar amount that is alarming—-it’s the proof of the internal rot of our bureaucratic system and its susceptibility to corruption. Trump is pointing out that the world has seen the United States as an easy mark and we are learning (not to our surprise) that our own agencies have, too.
Twitchy has a segment about Trump linking to a scene from the epic show “Landman”. If you haven’t watched the show I strongly encourage you to check it out. As someone associated with the petroleum industry I found it riveting and very very accurate, even to having the new guy on a rig wearing a green hard hat (identified as a “greenie” or new and inexperienced hand) as well as very entertaining, and it prompted a lot texting among many of us along the lines of “you’ve GOT to see this part!”
This scene alone had us cheering the oilman and making fun of the fretful scowling Lib. (Another great scene had Thornton explaining the realities of oilfield thefts near the border, after he explained to a local sheriff that when a plane had been stolen he had reported it to the “airplane police” (the FAA) and not the local cops. It is entertaining and a peek into a whole other world.)
Landman is a great show and I hope they are working on Season 2. I love how he dealt with the cartel, explaining to them that the people in the oil business have a lot more weapons than those in the drug business (paraphrasing)
There were times I laughed out loud watching this show, like the part about the “airplane police”.
BTW, Landman was renewed for Season 2 on March 12.

I’ll check out the Crossfire Hurricane release or at least summaries of it, but right this minute I am enjoying the prospect of Letitia James being “hoisted by her own petard” (Injured by the device that you intended to use to injure others).
Side note: As an avowed word nut, I actually took the time to look up the origin of this phrase when it popped up in a book I was reading, and learned that “hoist” used to mean, basically, “blown up” and “petard” is or was a form of bomb or explosive.)
Anyway, back OT—Letitia, who has become quite a darling of the Left (and we all know what that takes) for inventing and then prosecuting alleged “fraud”, seems to have a personal record of fraud her ownself. After pitching quite a legal fit over Trump allegedly manipulating information to get lower interest rates on loans, it seems that Tish signed a Power Of Attorney to buy a home in Virginia, asserting under oath that this was her “primary residence” while at the same time being AG in the state of New York which has an iron-clad absolute rule that state officials be residents of the state, currently and going back for at least five years.
So did Tish commit fraud by lying to get a lower interest rate, or is she and was she ineligible to act as AG in New York?

To qualify for the Home Affordable Modification Program, or HAMP, the mortgage needs to be “secured by a one- to four-unit property, one unit of which is the borrower’s principal residence.” So presto-changeo, one unit in the building disappeared. Why, it’s almost like magic! “By representing her five-unit property (according to the Certificate of Occupancy) as having only four units, James potentially secured tens of thousands of dollars in payment reductions she wasn’t entitled to receive.” Lucrative magic. This doesn’t even address the question of whether or not any unit in the building was ever occupied by her, much less as her “principal residence”.
So in yet another Letitia James fraud, there are options of how it should be handled. Should this be addressed the way it would be if anyone else had done this? That is, by enforcing the law and its penalties for violations?

In one documented case, when tenants discovered their building contained more units than listed on its Certificate of Occupancy, the DOB required “the presence of 24/7 fire guards as a condition of continued occupancy,” and courts supported tenants who organized a rent strike over the violation.” (Of course in her case it’s the Certificate of Occupancy that shows five units, and only the financial applications claim four, so here she has another choice—-Door # 1 which would be financial fraud, filing false documents, possible perjury, etc., or Door # 2 which would be admitting to doing non-permitted and inspected alterations to combine two units into one.)
Or should she just get the whole thing overlooked with a mild comment that this was just a “minor error”, which is what the Department of Buildings did for her? And if this is appropriate for her, why?

Why were James’ applications approved despite containing information that contradicts the Certificate of Occupancy in place since 2001?
Who authorized the handwritten modifications on mortgage documents, and why do they contain contradictory statements about unit count?
Why did DOB dismiss as “minor” what would typically trigger enforcement actions for ordinary property owners?
Given her position as New York’s chief legal officer, shouldn’t James be held to the highest standards of compliance with the very laws she enforces?
This isn’t just a bureaucratic inconsistency—it’s a window into a system of double standards. As James famously said when securing a $355 million judgment against Donald Trump, “No one is above the law.” These records raise a stark question: Does that include her?
It all boils down to the District Attorney for the State of New York having a long history of fraud and violations of several laws, not to mention her fraudulent prosecution of Trump in a gross violation of abuse of power and conflict of interest while being guilty of the kinds of crimes she alleges formed the basis for this prosecution.

I have often considered this when dealing with Leftist proclamations of what “should” happen.
I thought of it one day when I stood on a mountain ridge looking out at literally miles of similar, parallel, ridges, each dropping almost vertically into deep ravines, at a time the Left was howling about how Bush “should” be able to catch Bin Laden in similar terrain—though his was also riddled with secret caves and tunnels.
I’ve thought of it as I drove, daily, past mile after mile of dead trees as far as the eye could see in any direction, after seeing howls right here on this blog about why logging in the national forests (which were created to provide an ongoing source of lumber for the nation) would “destroy” those forests, which was the rationale they had for allowing beetles to literally destroy millions and millions of trees and therefore the habitat of wildlife and setting the stage for deadly uncontrollable fires.
Even people who live “in the country” in densely populated states are astounded when they see the vast open lands of the West.
Which leads to what we have been witnessing, which is that lack of moral order and self-restraint have led to impending collapse of democratic institutions.
And there is another reason to celebrate the election and leadership of Donald J. Trump:
