When Zachary Taylor marched his army into Mexico in 1846 along with finding Mexicans to fight, he also found Mexicans who wanted nothing to do with Mexico. That is, plenty of people in northern Mexico were desperate to be annexed to the USA – anything to get out of Mexico’s clutches. And even among the Mexicans who fought, it wasn’t particularly well. At Buena Vista, Taylor was outnumbered about four to one and he totally crushed the Mexican army – don’t get me wrong, Mexicans are as brave as any and there were some attacks pressed home with determination…but at the end of the day, the Mexican army at Buena Vista – fighting deep inside Mexican territory – was fought to a standstill and then had to be withdrawn because its commanders sensed that the men were about to desert en masse. In other words, it wasn’t a national army of patriots…but a conscript force of peasants who simply would not grit it out in defense of a country – and Ruling Class – they cared nothing about.
I believe this was because Mexico was a mistake. How did Mexico become independent? Well, Augustin de Iturbide – the commander of the Spanish army in Mexico – switched sides. It would be akin to us winning independence by putting Cornwallis in command of the Continental Army. In other words, pure farce. Why did Iturbide switch sides? Because he had been dismissed from command for cruelty and corruption. He got past that via influential friends but once reappointed to command, he looked for his first chance to betray Spain. After independence, he tried to set himself up as Emperor of Mexico but was swiftly overthrown and forced into exile. Returning a few years later, he was arrested by some of his opponents and shot after a bogus trial. But this doesn’t really get down to the nitty gritty – the fact that Mexico wasn’t fighting for independence in the manner the thirteen colonies had.
It wasn’t a matter that not everyone was on board (like here in the USA), but that people were fighting for completely different things…and it boiled down to various factions fighting for personal advantage. It was all just one very big mess and it was a ghastly tragi-comedy which persisted in Mexico until Diaz put down everyone and installed himself as President from 1876 to 1911. And in that period of stability he sort of crafted a story of Mexico and imposed it on the people – nothing like a couple generations of power to convince people that your justification for remaining in power is the actual story of your people. And then even that all fell apart and Mexico was consumed by ten years of civil war until the people who eventually created the PRI won control and set up a system to perpetuate themselves indefinitely in power under the guise of Democracy but with the elections fake and the outcomes predetermined. When the PRI started to fall apart in the late 1990’s there was a brief glimmer of hope that Mexico would finally get a government of consent…but then the rise of the Cartels in the early part of the 21st century nixed that.
And here we are – now there’s apparent Cartel war in Puerto Vallarta with the backdrop of a Mexican “government” which says it won’t use the army to fight the Cartels because that might violate human rights. In other words, the “government” of Mexico is no such thing – just a facade for the various Cartels who now battle it out to control territory and income…with the problem being the massive reduction in Cartel income following Trump’s closure of the border. My bet is that the Cartels, feeling the pinch, are now fighting over domestic income streams – and Puerto Vallarta with its huge influx of tourist dollars is a plum worth plucking…if you have the power to oust the current Cartel owners (don’t worry too much over stories that it was the Mexican military that zapped the Cartel boss…think of the Mexican military as yet another Cartel…it is certainly controlled by Cartels).
Why bring all this up? Well, outside the fact that we might have to intervene in Mexico for our own security needs, I think this needs to be said – and said again and again. That is: stop living in the world of make believe. We’ve maintained this pretense that Mexico has a legitimate government that we can deal with on the square. Never have we had such a thing. Now, this doesn’t mean we can’t be expedient about things, but let us have no illusions about it. We’re dealing with a clique, not a government – there is no legitimacy in it…it was engineered into power via shadowy forces and it will be replaced by the same sort of machinations.
So, too, it goes all around the world. Nigeria isn’t a country – its a colonial leftover encompassing at least five distinct peoples, most of whom hate each other with a passion. It is like jamming together France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Greece and calling it one country. The raids against Christians are carried out by Muslims…with the Muslims and Christians having distinct national identities, neither of which are “Nigerian”…but the fiction is kept alive – mostly by the Muslims – because the Christians hold the most valuable real estate (ie, that which has the oil). South Africa – not a country. Syria – not a country. Algeria – not a country (its borders and national identity are leftovers of French rule). And even some genuine countries – that is real peoples who’s borders roughly coincide with them – don’t have real governments; just like Mexico doesn’t. Iran – not a real government. Zimbabwe – not a real government. Sudan – not a real government. As for the EU – definitely getting deep into “not a real government” there…so much manipulation and fraud that we’re getting to the point where we can’t be certain any government there reflects the will of the people.
The world is not civilized any longer. I’ve seen posts on X from Canadians who went “elbows up” and decided to vacation in Mexico instead of the USA…to teach us Yanks a lesson. Hey, I used to love going to Mexico…but I haven’t been in about twenty years. Why not? Because when they start finding the bodies of dismembered people and nobody is arrested for it, I decide that place isn’t a good vacation destination. You’ve got to think about the people who go to Mexico – they’re betting their lives that the Cartels will keep them safe. To be sure, most of the time it is so…but if the Cartels decide its time for some death, then death is coming and there is no power in Mexico which can protect you from it. So, I’ll just have a taco here at home and keep Mexico as a fond memory of the past. I wouldn’t travel outside the USA these days if you paid me to do so – heck, even here at home barbarism is spreading, but at least here I’m on my own ground…I know the rules and can navigate my way through it. To be a foreigner? Heck no. Not even for a minute. There is no law out there – just power; and if power decides I gotta die, then dead I’ll be.
We need to take a long, hard look at things. These days, only a few foreign nations are in any way reliable – Japan, Argentina, El Salvador, Israel, UAE…maybe a half dozen others among the whole bunch. The rest of the world is a series of corrupt, cruel and increasingly incompetent factions fighting for control over dying societies. We are now faced with a battle to save ourselves – to Make America Great Again – and this will absorb the next twenty years. Our main foreign policy goal is to enforce as much peace as possible – mostly by a mix of force and persuasion. You know: sometimes kidnapping a foreign potentate who got on our nerves, other times offering them a deal which keeps them alive as long as they stop funding Hamas. But the purpose is to keep things as quiet as possible – as cheaply as possible – while we set our house in order and restore civilization here at home.
In light of this, what Trump will do with Mexico must be – and I believe it will be – in line with our needs. We don’t want a chaotic Mexico. But we can’t live with a Cartel Mexico, either. Something has to give…and it can’t be done with worries over offending Mexican national sensibilities which we can’t be sure even exist outside rent-a-mobs waving Mexican flags. So, too, our dealings with all nations comes into focus…and the Trump Doctrine emerges: we want peace. We will make a deal even if you’re just a mafia which took over a country. If you don’t take the deal…things will go badly for you.
There are a lot of people from other countries that no longer feel the U.S. is a safe place to visit. There are dozens of videos visitors being detained by I.C.E. who have just come for a visit.
I have a number of friends from other countries that don’t feel safe here.
I don’t believe you. Oh, I believe that the people you would choose as friends are likely to believe the same Leftist nonsense that defines your own worldview, and suddenly “not feel safe” here, but that does not make them smart or correct in their panic. But not that “There are dozens of videos visitors being detained by I.C.E. who have just come for a visit.”
As an example of not-smart, even after two decades you still come here to dump your silly lies and goofball theories.
Amazona, Try doing a search for “visitors detained by ice”.
Try citing sources instead of expecting others to do your work for you. Then define “detained”—is it stopped to ask for papers or actual incarceration? And what were the circumstances? Like trying to get back into the country from Canada on an expired work permit, perhaps? Or a record for drunk driving while here on a visa? Any overstayed visas in this group of poor put-upon victims of our mean old system?
Be aware, if that is possible, of the yellow journalism prevalent in so many of these stories. For example, the whine that “someone” overheard “someone” say that ICE officers get paid a bounty for each person they detain. One of these claims was associated with someone who had allegedly been detained for six weeks—so do those officers get a bounty for every day in detainment, or just for the pickup? Because it doesn’t make sense to hold people for no reason.
Well, it might kind of make sense to a certain kind of hysteric.
Okay Amazona here is a source. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/feb/21/karen-newton-valid-visa-detained-ice
One thing mentioned in the article and several others is that Tourism in the U.S. was down 6% last year at a time it was up just about everywhere else. Stories like the above have been reported all over the world and as a result a lot of people aren’t coming here. Living in a state that is very dependent on tourism it is having an impact here. Americans tend to come over for a week where people from other countries tend to stay a lot longer and spend more money.
What part of “illegal immigrant” is causing you problems here, Casper? If you aren’t legally in the country then you can’t stay here. Period. End of story. And no amount of heart string pulling is going to change it.
Why?
Because we saw what happened in 1986 and we’re not going to be suckered again on it.
Once ALL of the illegals are gone, then we might talk about reforms to immigration laws. We’re not going to let your side buffalo us into rewarding illegal immigration..not for the illegals and not for the Americans who have profited monetarily and politically off their being here.
As for foreigners refusing to come here – I don’t care. Look at the Canadian morons who went to Mexico. How did that work out for them? If people who watch TV refuse to come here, it is no skin off our nose. We’re not a tourist destination…we’re a nation of builders and doers. That a few less Canadians are cluttering the beaches in Florida and California is a net benefit, not a loss.
And your point is…? Stop having laws? Stop enforcing laws? Start running our country in a way that comforts foreign snowflakes blindly reacting to Leftist propaganda? Become spineless enough to be on your comfort level?
Or do you just get some sort of weird pleasure out of constantly whining about things that, for some vague reason, you just don’t like? And then inflicting your incessant sniveling on us?
Oh, I read that, and it was the basis for some of my comments about yellow journalism and the inconsistencies of some of the “reporting”. I dip my toe into the sewage of The Guardian every now and then, just to see what swill Leftists are finding in their troughs these days, but it always makes me want to take a shower afterward.
Do you have any idea, even the slightest clue, that your sources firmly establish you as a mindless meat puppet of the radical Left? Or do you even care? I get the impression that because this is your environment, seen only from the inside, you might not realize how aberrant it is compared to reality. And then I look at some of your comments and realize that even if you do know, you don’t have the integrity to care.
Mark,
The U.S. is usually 3rd in visitors and first in money spent by international tourists. It’s a nice chunk of the economy. Losing that will cost a lot of American jobs and businesses.
As for immigration, you and I can agree that there needs to be a better process on allowing immigrates into the country. We can also agree that we don’t want other countries criminals. Everyone would agree to kicking out violent criminals. Kicking out people who have been here for years, who have built families, lives, and businesses doesn’t seem right.
“Kicking out people who have been here for years, who have built families, lives, and businesses doesn’t seem right”. What you mean is, it doesn’t FEEL right—and that’s what matters.
Our legislators didn’t put a time limit on our immigration laws. They didn’t have a statute of limitations on illegal residence here. Why? Because it is an ongoing crime. It’s not a one-and-done. It’s not a single violation of a law, but a repeated violation of that law, day in and day out. There can’t be a statute of limitations on it, because as long as that person is here the crime never ends.
So rein in your FEELZ and remember that every single one of these people, while building families, lives and businesses, also knew every single day they were doing this that they were here illegally. Every person, every day. Yet in all those years never respected this country enough to take the steps necessary to make their residence here legal.
See, that’s the problem with people like you. (Or one of them, anyway. It’s quite a list.) It’s all about how you FEEL. Yes, it feels bad to see peoples’ lives overturned. I have a friend I recently learned is illegal. Her whole family came here illegally, and they are wonderful people. They worked hard, built families, and have been good residents of this country. Her parents got themselves legal, so did her brothers, and one of her brothers is part of my new family. I know he is a citizen because he has a passport, and her parents and other brother travel freely, and I just never questioned any of the rest of the family. But she just never bothered to establish her own legal residency. So now she is panicky. I love her, I feel for her, but I am not responsible for decisions she made.
This is what people like you don’t get—or don’t care about. This comes back to DECISIONS. Starting with the decision to flout our laws and sneak across the border, knowing full well that this was a crime. Going on to the decision to stay here, just hoping to get away with it. But personal responsibility is anathema to people like you, who paddle along on the surface of life, drifting from one feeling to another, lazily lapping up whatever dreck is fed to you by those who recognize a certain type and pander to it with emotional slop and appealing to that ugly little spark in your psyche that is attracted to the negative.
Oh, wahhh wahhh wahhh. Which businesses are going to go under because a few Euroweenies have ceded their thinking to their Leftist masters? Which jobs? “A LOT” of them? Take that phrase “a lot” out of your vocabulary and you will be mute, casper.
And where are they going to go? If the criterion is “a place that doesn’t regulate immigration” they will just have to stay in England, France and Germany because everyplace else is cracking down on illegal immigration and deporting people. England and France are so terrified of the parasites they have allowed to take over their countries that they just don’t have the courage to deal with them, and Germany is too busy preening in its imagined moral superiority in inviting these people in to look at what is happening around them.
Have you read the immigration laws? Do you not understand that a person cannot stay here and “build a life” without violating a host of provisions of the laws? And that everyone who works with them to “build their life” is also in violation of law?
It is illegal to be in the country illegally – and it is even more illegal to in any way, shape or form assist someone to stay illegally. If you really read the law, then you’ll see that our failure to turn in the guys waiting outside Lowes on a weekend is a violation because we all have a reasonable suspicion they are in the country illegally. For a person to “build a life” in the USA when illegal the person must first and foremost have utter contempt for the United States and the rule of law. The person must say, “heck with the USA; I’m staying and I don’t care about the law”. This is not the stuff with which patriots are made…anyone who cared about the USA would first of all obey our laws. And this is before we get into the fact that hardly any of them “build a life”…they are mostly ruthlessly exploited in a new Slave Trade…jammed up 10 to a room in run down housing and working for peanuts with probably two thirds of the pittance they earn raked off by the Cartels from their remittances back home.
It is evil to want to let them stay – any of them.
Yes, we see the MSM reports “foreigner with valid visa detained for weeks!”. The horror.
But then you look into it and you find that she’s married to a guy who was given a final deportation order two years ago (after overstaying a visa by 20 years) and she, herself, has been involved in very shady immigration practices and was picked up because she had no valid license or registration on her vehicle.
Its all bullsh**, Casper. It always is. It is ALWAYS a lie. We’re not doing evil here – we’re just deporting foreigners who have no legal basis to be here. If your friends are afraid then its for the same reason you don’t like Trump: you’re watching TV. I’ve told you over and over again to stop doing that. They’re just lying to you. All the time. About everything.
So you found a case to nitpick. Good for you. There are a lot of other stories out there, especially in the foreign press. I travel a lot and I talk to a lot of people. More importantly I listen to them. I also volunteer at a local place that gets a lot of tourists from all over the world. I never bring up politics on my own, but a lot of them do. Oh, and I don’t watch TV news.
Too funny—casper of all people is now complaining about “nit picking”.
“Lots of other stories”—-such as? Oh, ESPECIALLY IN THE FOREIGN PRESS! Well, THAT makes a difference!
And “lots” of tourists who love to trash the country they just paid good money to come visit. And gee, yet another reference to how much you travel! I wonder, with all those special places you have visited and all those great people you have met there eager to share their hatred of the United States, why you even came back here.
Casper, you don’t seem capable of processing even the most basic information, but I’ll try again. NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU “THINK”. Never have, never will. There has never been a moment in which you have had even the slightest iota of respect here. Starting back when you were babbling your nonsense to middle school students at Dean Morgan and explaining your utterly stupid cockamamie interpretations of the Constitution we saw right through you as a smug, pompous intellectual lightweight and an ideal mouthpiece for Leftist garbage.
Hint: I feel pretty confident in saying that a “lot” of those people you think you impressed on all those many, so very many, travels had the same reaction we always had, just like those students and parents in Casper who laughed at your pretentions and called you their “local Commie”.
So please don’t pretend anyone cares what you thought about the Olympics or Bad Bunny or anything else.
But people like casper CRAVE the dopamine rush they get from ingesting hate and resentment and negativity. They yearn for it, they seek it out—-and then they get off on shoving it in the faces of those who know better, in some weird kind of “gotcha” that isn’t a gotcha at all, just a self-own of low IQ and character.
These people sure showed Trump! A couple of Canadians who used to hang out at a trailer park in Texas a few weeks a year decided they were too indignant about Trump so decided to teach him a lesson and go to Puerto Vallarta!
CBC ran this mid December. Travel to the U.S. bad, travel to Mexico good.
Just listen to where these people are wanting to travel instead of their usual winter vacation in the U.S. because orange man bad.
You can bet they are heading back to the U.S. next winter.
And now Canadians are looting Mexican stores. Gee, I miss them!
I’m not sure if this is the same guy, but an Irishman being held after overstaying a visa by about 20 years and already having a deportation order could get out of detention just by agreeing to go home. But he has outstanding warrants back home, and twin girls eager to rip him a new one for abandoning them as tiny babies and being a deadbeat dad.
Most people being held would be released if they were not fighting deportation. There are some being held prior to prosecution for crimes committed here (due process!) but we really just want to get rid of most of them. If they are stuck in detention it is probably a choice they are making, rolling the dice and hoping for a Dem Senator and a Lefty judge to bail them out so they can stay.
So spare me the ostentatious grieving over those being “detained”. There is always a reason. Yes, it is possible that such a reason might turn out to be wrong, but there is still always a reason.
I wonder if any Mexican ever wondered if I felt safe in their country?? White liberals are the only species on the planet that would lessen their quality of life to appease all others. I think they all suffer from battered spouse syndrome.
Still in Cabo and you wouldn’t even know anything was going on. Our phones blew up yesterday morning from family about Puerto Vallarta but Cabo is calm. I did hear of a large military presence in Todos Santos, a little village north of Cabo on the pacific coast … not sure what was going on, but I feel safer in Cabo than I do in South Central Phoenix that’s for sure.
I had to laugh at the Democrats on the world stage the other day … AOC and Gavin made complete fools of themselves. It’s is astonishing to think that out of 300 million people, these two are the best Democrats could come up with.
That’s an interesting history on Mexico Mark … well done. I’ll remind you of the Battle of San Jacinto, where Sam Houston was badly outnumbered by the Mexicans led by one of their top Generals, Santa Anna, and yet in just 18 minutes, Sam Houston defeated them. Mexico has been run by the cartels for a long time, and the Mexican people suffer because of it (something of which you will never hear from white liberals), and I do hope something good happens. They can be eliminated, but it will require courage and resolve. They won’t go down easily.
But after a while I also blame them, the people. Once again, Chesterton was right: a rebellion lets you know two crucial facts:
1. How many rebels there are.
2. How man of them are willing to be dead.
The problem with Mexico…and a host of other nations around the globe…is that people don’t like it, but there aren’t enough of them willing to be dead to make a difference. Reminder: this doesn’t mean you will be dead, it just means you’re willing to be dead if that is what it takes to effect change. There are 132 million people in Mexico and about 150,000 Cartel members…they’d be torn to pieces in a week if the people of Mexico wanted to get it done. But, they don’t – they hunker down, hope it doesn’t cause them direct harm, take a few bucks on the side from them…and on call will wave a Mexican flag and denounce the gringos. I hope Mexico can get it together…but if they don’t then I want a 50 mile wide depopulated zone south of the American border and anyone not on a paved road heading towards that border gets blown up without warning. I’m done pretending.
I understand that argument but on the other hand, the Mexican people are powerless. The Cartels are massive and absolutely ruthless, think the Mafia on steroids. They not only kill those who rise up against them, they kill their entire families as a warning, and the Mexican people know that and are scared straight. It will require the US Military to wage this battle and when the Mexican people see that someone more powerful has their back, watch them rise up. I really hope the Cartel stranglehold on this country can be broken. Mexico is beautiful and if governed properly, would be one of, if not the best country in the world.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH DEMOCRATS!!!!
Team USA hockey hero Jack Hughes breaks silence on women’s stars rejecting Trump and angry backlash to their own White House trip
Democrats are the most miserable pieces of shit on the planet. I am so tired of their non stop bitching and moaning and weakness …. “My friends don’t feel safe here” – Casper. Who the fuck cares??? Tell them not to come here and stop fucking whining.
The USA men’s hockey team is WHO WE ARE. We WILL celebrate and WE don’t give a fuck what you think about it. GO THE FUCK AWAY
I’m proud of all of our Olympic athletes. The did an incredible job of representing out country.
Except for those who made it clear they were not representing our country. Let’s save the praise for those who did.
In a world of Megan Rapinoes, be a Jack Hughes.
What a magnificent State of the Union address. Trump’s speech hit so many high notes it will be hard to decide which stood at the pinnacle. For me, watching the award of not 1, but 2 Congressional Medal of Honor’s being presented was way up there.
He did hit it out of the park – and walked the Democrats into political irrelevancy.
They just aren’t very bright.
There were so many high points, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but I stood up and cheered when Trump said (I’m paraphrasing), if you agree with the following statement, stand up and support it: the first priority of the government is to protect its citizens, not illegal aliens. The Republicans gave a long standing ovation while the Democrats sat on their hands and looked like they’d just swallowed lemons. They made the TV commercial that is going to sink them.
Interestingly, at some point about three fourths of the way through the speech, the Dems started standing and applauding. Someone must have passed the word that the optics were REEEEEEEALLY BAD.
While the 2 Congressional Medal of Honor’s awarded is significant, there were other medals awarded that were highly notable.
Connor Hellebuyck – Presidential Medal of Freedom
Petty Officer Scott Ruskan – Legion of Merit for the astounding rescue of some 167 people during a raging storm.
Sarah Beckstrom – Purple Heart, killed while protecting the nations capital.
Andrew Wolfe – Purple Heart, shot and survived protecting the nations capital.
The 2 Medal of Honor awards – Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover & Royce Williams
Other medals to be awarded for several members of the service members who took part in the capture of Maduro.

Some notable lows for the Demonocrats:
Rep. Green being removed while carrying a sign that said “Black people aren’t Apes.
Omar and Tlaib trying to shouting at Trump. So much for decorum.
I don’t imagine there are many people in the US who don’t already have strong feelings about which political party best represents them but it sure seems counter productive to sit on your hands and sulk during certain segments of Trump’s speech that should garner full support of all patriots. Oh, wait a minute… holding political office doesn’t mean you have to be a patriot.
”These people are crazy” is the line MAGA simply needs to repeat over and over. They are, and they are exhausting. That was Trumps best speech ever last night.
Casper is a great example of crazy. From reading his comments, he seems to be arguing that if we just allow illegal immigration, our tourism industry will flourish!! What an insane argument. And Casper … 90% of Canadians are assholes. I know first hand. They want the benefits of this country all the while bashing it and trying to avoid taxes … fuck them.
Casper also seems to be advocating the globalist position that we should shape our country, our laws and our culture to meet the standards of other nations. Which is not a surprise, given his flaccid support, such as it is, for this one.
So let him fret about what other people think of us. Let him pretend he is really concerned about the economics of an allegedly floundering tourist trade. Casper makes squishes look sturdy by comparison, as he squirms and tucks his tail and begs for international acceptance. “Oh” he whines, “they might not LIKE us if we stand up for our own laws!”
Hint: They have never liked us. They looked down on us in the 18th Century as a ragtag bunch of low-class hooligans, daring to stand up to the might and majesty of European royalty. They sneered at us in the 19th Century as unsophisticated rubes–except for the bold and ambitious, who thought “I need to get out of this claustrophobic tomb of ingrained class and limitations and see what liberty feels like” and hopped the next ship to America. After having to come crawling to us for help in saving them from some big bad bullies in two world wars, in the 20th Century they still postured as somehow more cultured, somehow more intellectual, somehow more sophisticated, somehow just better—as they imitated us and tried to ride on our coattails, and ignored the fact that every major accomplishment, from science to technology, came from the United States.
The fact is that every country in the world, economically and culturally and scientifically and technologically, has been pulled along in the slipstream of American innovation and discovery, and it pisses them off. So they pull up their American blue jeans and put on their Nike sneakers and grab their iPhones and get on their American-designed computers to buy tickets to Disney World but assure themselves and each other that they are still better, because shut up.
“A record 36 percent of unemployed Americans aged 25 and older now hold four year college degrees, marking the highest share ever recorded, according to Bloomberg analysis.”
First, I wonder how many of those are manufactured degrees, areas of study that provide no real employable skills? Second, I wonder how many jobs would be available to those graduates if the mass migration of illegals wasn’t allowed? Third, I wonder how many companies are now refusing or pulling back on hiring degree holders as their attitudes and work ethics have been shown repeatedly to be far more problematic than those without the degree?

I first got interested in politics as a senior in high school during the Kennedy/Nixon presidential campaign. In the 63 years since, no political party has had a self-inflicted wound as severe as what Democrats did to themselves last night.
I have a shamefaced admission to make here—I simply forgot to watch the speech last night.
I don’t even have cable TV hooked up, and though a couple of my streaming devices do let me watch live TV I never do. And I often have no idea what day it is. After being a rancher for so many years/decades, where the day of the week or even month is not relevant, I am out of the habit of paying much attention even now that I am retired. The usual markers of calendars are not part of my daily life. Caring for livestock is not something controlled by what day it is, and I spent years working on weekends and holidays and got out of the habit of paying much attention. I make a point of remembering Sunday for church, but beyond that it is hit or miss. So it is one thing to make a mental note of “watch SOTU on Tuesday” but not that helpful if it’s not accompanied by “today is Tuesday”. Throw in a busy day followed by a great book and, well, it just slipped on by.
So it looks like I missed a real barn-burner. I’ll find it somewhere, even if only on YouTube, and watch it, because it sounds like it was what I have always wanted from a SOTU speech. They usually have canned energy, statements followed by scripted applause, but this one sounds like it had some real mojo working.
I missed the first half because of work requirements – but it was a barn burner. As many have pointed out:
Trump told the Democrats he was going to trap them.
He showed them the trap.
He described exactly how he would lead them into the trap.
And then he walked them into the trap.
The whole thing provided endless themes (and video!) for the Fall campaign.
After that, if the American people decide to put Democrats back into power, then that’s it: we’re done. But I don’t think that will happen – we’re going to whallop them.
I have to confess, I watched the speech on NPR’s live stream, only because I knew they carried it. Over the years we’ve made fun of NPR’s political views, but we enjoy watching Masterpiece Theater, and I knew I wasn’t going to hear much commentary. I tuned in right at 9PM, and caught maybe 5 or ten minutes of leftist commentary, specifically how Trump is looking as some of the worst approval polls in history. It’ll be interesting to see if the speech moved the needle, but at the end of the day, I don’t believe the polls. And I have to think that anyone with half a brain doesn’t either.
The rhetoric on the left has escalated the degradation of respect for the military and law enforcement, the very people called upon to serve and protect in the most dangerous of situations. I see a variety of contributing factors. First, the internet has allowed people to spew all kinds of hatred while remaining mostly anonymous, thereby shielding them from any repercussions. Over time that need to hide diminishes where they feel emboldened to act out in person, especially when feeling semi-protected in a mob situation. They stupidly forget how widely video is used today. Second, the left has gained a notable foothold in the areas of prosecution where they diminish or remove any responsibility on the perpetrators of crime.
When I watch videos of NYPD being publicly assaulted in broad daylight, it makes one reflect on how they see this playing out. It becomes clear we are without a doubt, in a civil war. Not necessarily one where the whole country is in a confrontation with arms, but one that could certainly lead to that. I wonder what the members of the NYPD are feeling when their own mayor has nothing but disdain for them while actively defunding them?
Seems that link didn’t work.

In a way, this video reinforces my oft-stated observation that the Left actively recruits from the dregs of mental illness. What kind of person lines up to harass and physically assault strangers? This is a category of humanity that forms the base of the Left.
While there is a thin stratum of superficially normal and acceptable humanity at the top, as we see in academia and entertainment and business and (to a lesser degree) politics, the seething underbelly of Leftism is thuggery and brutality and the ascendance of the bully. But the illusion of difference between the celebrities, politicians and executives and the violent anti-American mobs is fading.
So now we see sanctioned mobs attacking law enforcement officers and blatantly violating federal laws, openly defending and supporting criminals. Now we see members of our national legislative body openly refusing to state defending the people and the Constitution as their primary duty as politicians. Now we see members of that body flaunting foreign flags and admitting that they see themselves as representatives of foreign countries and peoples. Now we see open rebellion against the authority of the United States and its laws thereof. Now we see our president under constant attack for honoring his sworn oath of office. We even see open disdain for the concept of being American.
What is interesting to me is the calculation of the leaders that it is now safe for them to rip off any remaining tatters of disguise and show themselves for what they really are. If I were to make an allegorical movie, it might be one where the alien monsters here to convert humanity into feedstock finally feel confident enough in their numbers and powers to start letting their masks become more transparent, so in an increasingly sped-up timeframe we start to see those extra eyes, those longer sharpened teeth, the distortions of skulls and bodies—because they have become cocky and convinced that no one can do a darned thing about them. There is no reason to try to hide it any more. There is no longer much to be gained by posing as normal human beings.
Approximately half of American citizens are members of the Democrat Party, and we now see that party’s leaders calling, in very thinly disguised rhetoric, for the assassination of our duly elected president and rebellion against the authority of the country. This telegraphs, to me, the calculation on the part of the Left’s leadership that it is now safe for them to escalate into the next level of conflict, which is open confrontation up to and including violence, murder and assassination.
And I am finally coming to understand, and agree with, comments from other posters that we are truly facing a civil war. I always asked “so who are you going to shoot?” I think I now know the answer to that. And I think this war will have to be fought by our law enforcement officers, by a shift in their perceptions of their jobs to dynamic control of large numbers of opposing forces. That is, short of using the military, which has its Constitutional limitations, we might have to redefine law enforcement by expanding it to paramilitary boundaries.
Which I contend should be purposed to cut off the heads of the snakes. Surround mobs and arrest every single person there. The caspers of the country are whimpering about the alleged shackling of poor innocent civilians, so let’s start to chain and shackle mob participants. That would include mild mobs like those throwing snow at cops all the way up to violent mobs like those so well organized and funded by the Left.
We’re in a hockey frame of mind right now, so I’ll use a phrase I have often used to describe the intention to take something to the next level—“the gloves are on the ice”. If you have ever seen a hockey game you know that when gloves hit the ice they will soon be followed by blood and maybe teeth. I am ready for federal gloves to hit the ice, and to start racking up high figures of people really being detained. I’d even vote to just empty out all those places where innocents are supposedly being held in chains and shackles, line up planes and fly them out and let the lapdog judges pound their gavels, and fill every facility we have with people ranging from violent thugs to mere hooligans. Reopen Alligator Alcatraz and any other confinement center we have. Want to throw snow on cops? Get detained in Buffalo and instead of being on a chain gang you can hand-shovel snow all winter, 8 hours a day, with baloney sandwiches for lunch and supper, and eventually going home with a federal rap sheet.
I’m tired of it, and I am not at all concerned about the ankle-biting of the insipid caspers of the country or the fake outrage of the incel keyboard warriors who try to strut their “stuff” here every now and then.
It is exhausting, isn’t it?
But it also lets us know why even allegedly minor miscreants in the past were treated to some harsh brutality: some people just can’t be reached by argument. In the end, it doesn’t matter why they can’t be reached – someone who persistently steps outside the bounds of acceptable, civilized behavior needs a beating. To at least let the barbarian know that it will be painful.
We see the massively declining murder rate and all it took was a bit of law enforcement – which the Democrats are now stoutly opposing and undermining at every turn. We know why – the violence justifies their demands we “end gun violence” by placing restrictions on people who don’t commit violence. They don’t care how many people die as long as they get their way…in other words, just like barbarians.
It takes a certain amount of restrain and savvy to display an aurora of civility meant to persuade the general public you’re something different than what you really are, especially for politicians. This was at one time a well understood factor of gaining / retaining political power & control. Many of today’s politicians have neither restrain or savvy and are only too eager to show their real face, especially when goaded.
I don’t think the general left realizes they are nothing but pawns, not of the supposed elite but for the master of evil, who is all too happy to do his deeds in the shadows. They’ve worked for decades to create a superficial narrative necessary to garner a wide web of controls that allows them to siphon off the many related spoils. From Reagan up until Trump, many on the supposed right have been in bed with them, too cowardly to act in the nations best interest. With Trump swinging a wrecking ball into their house of cards in such an impactful and encompassing way, it seems they have few choices left but acting the same as the mafia & drug cartels do – intimidation, corruption, blackmail and fraud. It seems the risk of exposure correlates to the pace that Trump is pulling down the curtain. While they try all kinds of ways to manufacture rage, Trump is often several steps ahead of them and often employing multi-pronged efforts to destroy all of their safe havens.
2026 is going to be an epic year …

Definitely watch the SOTU speech, one of the best ever. Loved it when he brought the political dissident from Venezuela in the meet his daughter after so many years. And then when he spoke of “gender affirming care” and brought in a detranstioner, whose parents had no idea what the school was doing to their daughter.
Democrats squirmed
When we devolved to the point where a political opponent can’t question election irregularities or perceived fraud without then risking prosecution for some twisted, distorted or misapplied law infraction such as “racketeering”, then there is little left to remove the entrenched powers short of civil unrest. I think the extent of what happens going forward lays largely on how many people wake from the stupor of deceit -AND- the ability of Trump to dismantle and expose much of what the left has worked so hard building. I’ve little doubt the next 3 years will be like nothing we’ve experienced in the past. I’m truly grateful we get to do it with Trump & company in charge and under the watchful eye of our Lord.
This is exactly what happens when weak people like Casper govern countries. And the exact reason why MAGA exists

How does a person sentenced to 3 consecutive life terms get release from prison? I used to think a life sentence meant no chance of parole. This person was convicted of kidnapping and molesting and/or raping 16 children (besides a prior conviction in a different state) , and beating 8 of those children ages 3 – 7. It’s rather baffling that he wasn’t put on death row. I don’t think it would surprise many to learn the release happened in California. There seems the perception of a struggle between people with left / right ideologies. I purport the real struggle is at a far deeper level with the most vile evil creature ever to exists, pulling out all stops. This article and many of the actions of democrats sure point in that direction.
