CNN and the False Report

Gibbs Criticizes Outlets That Reported Erroneous News

Ok, so CNN appears to have messed up – pretty much par for the course for CNN and, anyways, its not like Obama’s Administration has been keen on seeing to it that CNN reports are accurate. The larger question I have: why on Earth would you schedule a “routine” anti-terror exercise on 9/11? Either someone is lying, or someone is stupid. This, also, is par for the course – for the Obama Administration.

Yep, the nation is in the very best of hands…

Texas Rangers to the Border

Doing the job the federal government refuses:

Special teams of Texas Rangers will be deployed to the Texas-Mexico border to deal with increasing violence because the federal government has failed to address growing problems there, Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday.

“It is an expansive effort with the Rangers playing a more high-profile role than they’ve ever played before,” Perry said of the Department of Public Safety’s elite investigative unit.

The forces, dubbed “Ranger recon” teams, are the latest effort “to fill the gap that’s been left by the federal government’s ongoing failure to adequately secure our international border with Mexico,” he said.

What the pro-immigration activists, sundry liberals, “cheap labor” libertarians and race-baiters don’t get is that securing the border is in the interest of justice in its most basic form. By having an unsecure border, we are just giving free reign to criminals of all types who are causing murder and mayhem – including, and most especially, on those people just trying to cross the border to find work. It is pro-immigrant to be in favor of securing the border; pro-immigrant, pro-law, pro-justice…pro-basic human decency.

But we don’t – and we must not forget that while Bush did better than everyone else, he still failed to fully secure our southern border. Now that Obama is in office, the signal is out that we will be more and more lax in our border enforcement – this is just making a bad situation in to a disaster. And, so, Texas is doing the right thing – the people of Texas have a right to justice being secured on their border with Mexico. If the US government won’t do its duty, then the Texas government must do it, or be complicit in immoral failure.

“Whatever it takes” should be our motto on border security – and keep in mind that I am a pro-immigrant person who wises to find a path to citizenship for the illegals in country. But before we do anything, we must make our border just and secure. If this requires a 100 foot high, barbed-wire-topped concrete wall along the whole length of the border, then that is what we’re going to have to do – for our benefit and the benefit of those innocent foreigners who just want to find work. President Obama should pay heed to Texas’ action and fall in line with this simple enforcement of essential justice.

Phrase of the Day

In memory of all those who have died in the fight for liberty:

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

NJ-GOV: Christie Still Leads Corzine

By a healthy 8 points less than two months before election day:

Republican challenger Chris Christie continues to lead incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine in the race for New Jersey governor.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey of voters in the Garden State finds Christie, a former federal prosecutor, on top 46% to 38%. Independent candidate Chris Daggett gets six percent (6%) of the vote, and 10% are undecided.

The problem with the GOP in New Jersey – as noted later in the poll results – is that the GOP has usually failed to close the deal – some how or another, the GOPer just falls flat in the last month. But, also, usually the GOP isn’t 8 points ahead at this place in the campaign.

Its all up to Christie and the New Jersey GOP – we’ve got the wind at our backs and a Democrat brand name which is getting more toxic by the day. All that needs to be done is to fight like heck and don’t let up for a minute.

Governor Sanford, You Should Still Resign

He comes out fighting:

Despite mounting calls for his resignation, Republican South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford continues his fight to stay in office.

Sanford has scheduled a 3:30 PM news conference today at the statehouse in Columbia.

The news conference comes one day after Sanford received a letter, signed by 61 of the 72 Republicans controlling the South Carolina House of Representatives, asking for his resignation. On Tuesday, Republican House Speaker Bobby Harrell sent the governor a similar letter…

It is reported that Sanford wants us to hear “the rest of the story” – errrmmm, yeah. Governor, “the rest of the story” is that you cheated on your wife. Once upon a time you took your soul in your hands and swore a holy oath to God and your wife that you would forsake all others. Some time later, you threw aside your sworn word and had an affair. This doesn’t preclude you from serving your fellow man – this doesn’t preclude you from gaining God’s forgiveness and entering in to the joy of the life of the world to come…but it does mean you need to atone for your oath-breaking, and you can’t do that while in office.

Go, and let us hear no more of you for some years. Do something worthwhile which none of us know about – and then get back to us.

What Media Bias? Part 161

They’re not even trying to fake it, anymore:

As Drudge points out, CNN blasted inboxes this morning with its new poll numbers, claiming a “14-point gain” in support for President Obama’s health-care plan among speech-watchers. However, CNN’s methods are questionable. As CNN writes at the bottom of its report:

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted just before and just after the president’s speech, with 427 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s sampling error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

The sample of speech-watchers in this poll was 45 percent Democratic and 18 percent Republican. Our best estimate of the number of Democrats in the voting age population as a whole indicates that the sample is about 8-10 points more Democratic than the population as a whole.

CNN’s sloppy poll, not its numbers, is the real news story here.

Why did they do it? Because they wanted to be able to puff up Obama’s speech – and they probably did it at the direction or at least strong urging of the White House. Rush has taken to calling the MSM our “State-run” media. He’s right.

8 Years Since That Day

We all know it is fading from our memory – its there and it will remain with all of us, but the immediacy of the event is long gone. There is, perhaps, a thought that – just maybe – they’ll try again this September 11th, but the general conviction is that we’ve got a handle on those who would harm us at home. Meanwhile, Iraq has faded from view as victory was secured and while Afghanistan is heating up, the President isn’t calling us to support the troops and the left isn’t calling for us to surrender…so passions are stilled in the War on Terrorism.

And yet, it goes on.

Our soldiers are battling our most deadly enemies – we hope with clear direction from the White House, but we’ll only know this in the event. If our arms are continually crowned with victory as they were 2001-09, then we’ll know that Obama is providing proper leadership as Commander in Chief…if we start to falter, then we’ll know where the problem lies. It may be years before we know – unless the enemy does manage to land a big hit on us, here at home.

It could be that the enemy has learned not to overly rouse us. To be sure, Obama gives every sign of being unwilling to hit back, hard, but the enemy cannot be sure that Obama won’t find his spine if we’re heavily attacked. Given this, the enemy might be concentrating effort in other fields. In Afghanistan, of course – but more importantly in Pakistan and in other backwaters of the world where civilization penetrates feebly, if at all.

They are probably recruiting Americans, too – criminals in prison, and fools out of prison, bamboozled in to thinking that America is the problem. Jeremiah Wright was just the tip of an iceberg of idiots when he opined that our chickens are coming home to roost…as if stalwart support of freedom is a chicken we should be wary of. Given the way people like Wright end up lauding people like Castro, I guess this does make some sort of twisted sense. And for every Wright we see there are a hundred below the radar…being filled with hate, and perhaps being filled with a means of acting upon that hate. It is my view that the next major terrorist attack in America will be carried out by Americans, or at least by people long domiciled in America and indistinguishable in their daily life from the average run.

We must, from time to time, remember That Day – the knowledge that you are to be hanged in a fortnight concentrates the mind, it is said…the thought that we might be attacked in another 9/11 should concentrate our minds equally well. They are just waiting for our guard to slip – an unguarded hour, and thousands of us will be dead.

We must, additionally, remember those who have died fighting the enemy – and who continue to fight the enemy, today. They are out there, all the time – one of them happens to be the son of a friend of mine, bravely volunteering to go in to the theater of war to do his bit. All of us are probably only separated by a degree from someone who is or has laid it on the line, if you think about it. And so, a prayer is offered:

For our Commander-In-Chief, President Barack Obama and our political and military leaders that they may tirelessly seek peaceful settlements to international disputes; we pray to the Lord:

That the Lord may preserve the members of our Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Air Force from all harm; we pray to the Lord:

That even in war, we may keep clearly before us the defense of all human rights, especially the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; we pray to the Lord:

That the families, relatives and friends of our military members may be strengthened in this time of concern and anxiety; we pray to the Lord:

That the Lord may help families with men and women in the armed forces to cope with daily challenges in the absence of their loved ones; we pray to the Lord:

That our homeland will be preserved from violence and terrorism; we pray to the Lord:

That the nations of the world will seek to work together in harmony and peace; we pray to the Lord:

That the hearts of all men and women will be moved to pursue true peace and justice; we pray to the Lord:

That violence may be overcome by peace; that weapons of destruction be transformed into tools of justice, and hate give way to true charity; we pray to the Lord:

That grateful for and inspired by those veterans who have given their lives for our country we may bravely face the challenges ahead; we pray to the Lord

Joe Wilson Just Expressed What is in Our Hearts

To be sure, he should not have jumped up and shouted during the President’s speech – that is the sort of rude tactic our leftwingers use. It is right and proper that he has apologized for his action – but by very rude means, all Wilson did was tell the truth – Obama is lying through his teeth about what his health care plan will do.

It is the height of absurdity to claim that a bill which has no bar to illegals won’t cover illegals. It is equally absurd to propose covering more people, more of the time, for more things and say this will reduce the costs of health care. The final absurdity if Obama’s assertions that he’s willing to work with Republicans – we’ve been shut out of the debate, especially in the House.

In this supreme act of rudeness, we might find the final awakening of the American people – in the end, after all, just what were we GOPers doing in Congress last night? We were merely a prop – something to allow Obama to look more impressive as he peddled his falsehoods about health care. Wilson should not have jumped up, but Wilson should not have been there – no Republican should have. This wasn’t a speech of grave national importance where all Americans must pay heed…this was just a campaign event by a politician who is down in the polls and looking for a means to reshape the debate in his favor.

Ultimately, the worst thing which happened last night was a cheapening of the Presidency and the august event known as a Joint Session of Congress…Wilson’s rudeness just capped the whole affair.

UPDATE: From NRO: “Joe Wilson is Rude But Right

More ACORN Voter Fraud

We do begin to wonder just how much of Obama’s victory margin was called in to being:

Eleven people hired to register potential voters in Miami-Dade County before last year’s presidential election were being sought Wednesday for falsifying hundreds of voter registration cards.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office issued arrest warrants for each of the 11 suspects, all of whom worked for the local chapter of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, (ACORN).

By early Wednesday morning, six were in custody, authorities said.

Of course, it could have had a bit of a different motive – as Obama won it without the necessity of fraud (which doesn’t mean that fraud wasn’t used), the bogus registrations could also have been cover for bogus donations. You know – make up a name and then that name also shows up in Obama’s donor rolls…with the money actually coming from some rich guy who’s illegally bankrolling the Obama Express.

We certainly have enough to launch a massive, nation-wide investigation. The problem is that our government got in to power with the help of the crooks, and thus won’t go after them. We’ll have to wait until people who honor the law are back in power…then we’ll have a field day with this stuff.

UPDATE: And it gets worse.
